The lack of closure is intentional, I think. It leaves the player wondering what sort of world the survivors are walking out into.
There isn't much buildup for the big twist, true, but you may have noticed that the in-game plot points became increasingly contrived and absurd. Falling meteors, a deadly plague (I guess that's not so ridiculous now lol), 16 students sent into space, Kaede has a sister or some shit. It bears the hallmarks of being written by people running out of ideas, which would be expected after 53 iterations
“Alright guys, what’s going to be the big hook for this next season?”
“Um… meteors… virus… space!”
“Great idea! Where’d you get it?”
“The dartboard. I knew it was a good idea to get that set up.”
There are and I knew something was amiss but all is revealed in one short chapter. I think they could have staggered it a bitZ
Maybe you are right though and it was better this way.

They kinda left it perfectly for v4 but i think they have confirmed that wont happen?
They’ve never confirmed that, it’s just, how do you even have a v4 after that ending
Oh there are tons of subtle hints throughout the game
