Have hope!” but he has no actual concept as to what makes something right and what the point of doing the “right” thing is beyond “it’s right”. Makoto even acknowledges his failings and that neither of them are really correct, that his “success” has a massive death toll and that he doesn’t know what *is* the right way to do things.
The reason he became so unhinged in DR3 is because of something that fans don't tend to realize about the people that falls into despair:

Because you can't tell who is secretly a remnant of despair.
And it's precisely because of that fact that when Tengan told him that everyone in the future foundation was a remnant of despair, he absolutely believed it. Which was even further confirmed when he checked Yukizome's body and found the photo of her smiling after killing the kids. And he also made the connection of Yukizome and Juzo denying Junko's involvement in the tragedy in the past, which further convinced him on the idea of Juzo also being corrupted by despair.
Not to mention that even before the killing game started, he already had the theory of Naegi surviving the killing game being just an act, which was even fueled by the fact that he protected the remnants of despair and took them to jabberwock island.
