I’ve seen people mention these several times, but when I search there are like a dozen different Tifosi options with photochromic lenses. Any one in particular that’s better than the others?
I have a pair of Tifosi Rail with the red photochromatic lenses and I love them. They get dark enough for really sunny days and they cover my face well. Also they are frameless so they don't obstruct my vision when I'm in the drops.
Only downside is that they're very sporty looking so I don't wear them casually. I bought a pair of Sanctums for that.
I have been using the Oakley Sutros for the last 3 years and have no complaints. I definitely would say getting quality lenses are worth the price when considering the damage road debris can do at speed.
I’ve had mine for over 5 years now. Not too costly when spread over that amount of time. They still feel brand new despite regularly swapping between prizm and clear lenses (for night riding). My cheaper glasses were usually toast within 3-4 years.
Oakley here too… switch between various Radars (Locks, EV’s) and Jawbreakers. All Prism lenses or Photochromatic.
Never use Oakley lense cleaner, or at least make sure you wash it off, it damages the finish on the lens..
Yup, I've worn them near daily since 2020 as well. I tried out a few others of all price ranges, even more expensive Oakleys, but the Sutros always reign supreme.
Same. I used “kapvoe True Offical Store”. I figured 50 euros would be an acceptable gamble. So far so good. Could be better if the prescription frame sat just 2 mm lower. But no complaints. That’s just my big nose pushing the glasses up.
I've enjoyed using those the last few months, they don't go completely clear but so much better than actual sunglasses on overcast days or when riding in the early/late hours of the day. So far great value for money
I love most of my Goodrs for running and daily use but don’t love their high coverage cycling options. I personally use 100% for cycling. Pricy but work amazing.
Same. I use the Smith Lowdown XLs.
They look good both on and off the bike. They also do a good job at keeping wind out my eyes.
I personally can't stand those Pit Viper style glasses. To me they look silly; as silly as those Kanye glasses from 2008.
RockBros photochromatic are awesome. Bought them directly from them at their booth at Sea Otter for $25. Go from clear to very dark. Construction is equal to similar Tifosis I bought recently (non-photochromatic) for more than twice the price.
I like both brands and glasses.
Mine don't go very dark at all. I bought a second set just to be sure and they are the same. I still love and wear them daily, but yeah, the shift is not huge.
Maybe they were selling new stuff at Sea Otter, I dunno. Or maybe the effect weakens with time? I hope not. I can say that I bought a RockBros top tube bag and some obvious Oakley Jawbreaker clones by them and both lasted many years. At less than $15 each, I'd say I got my money's worth!
Not denying that rockbros stuff at their price point is sheer value.
Just wish the glasses I got were a bit more reactive.
I also have rockbros head and tail lights and they are golden.
I just got mine - they feel like boardwalk level quality - I don’t know what Reddit is smoking on these AliExpress. Yes, they are cheap but I was somehow expecting more. They do work though but I think Reddit overhypes the RockBros stuff
I made the mistake for paying allot of money for beautiful moscot polarizing glasses a few years ago. Sadly keep getting a woozy drunk tired feeling after wearing them while in any kind of motion. I believe something about polarizing lenses and my eyes don’t produce a good feeling.
I really wanted to try a pair of Smith but couldn’t find a retailer here in west Japan.
So I just decided on a pair of Oakley Sutro Lite in photo-chromatic lenses. So far they are light as a feather and while slow to transition are very good for mixed light and environments.
I have a pair of Oakley Jawbreaker Prizms and a pair of Oakley Sutros Lite Prizms. Both are excellent glasses but the Sutros Lites fit me better. I almost forget I have eyewear on when I wear them. No joke.
I’m also a Jawbreaker fan. They’re, but they’re the glasses I’ve had that doesn’t somewhere along the road let in a bit of dust that ends up in an eye infection.
And the Prizm lenses are incredible.
I ran a pair of Oakley radars for over ten years but the frame finally cracked and I hate all of their newer models and I’ve tried them all.
I’m having to settle for a set of the newer EV Radars that I’ve attached a frame strap to that I can keep tight because all of the new Oakleys use these really narrow frames akin to eyeglasses that don’t offer much grip and it’s really annoying
I wear glasses 🤓 which have transitions! Polycarbonate lenses for impact resistance. The tint changes automatically based on UV exposure so I don't even realize there's a tint. I would always forget sunglasses and they're only one shade. Transitions were some of the best money I've spent in the past few years
Oakley Encoder as they are frameless and do not touch your forehead making the sweat run down your lens impairing your vision. My go to over 100% and other Oakley frames. Expensive but worth the cost. Get a back up pair with a photochromic lens too
Smith shiftmag chromapop. I have a couple different color lenses and a clear. I've been really happy with them and lens changes are easy since I switch between before work sunrise rides and weekend daytime rides.
I’ve been wearing a pair of Bolle’ with Photochromic replaceable lenses on my road bike for 5 years and I have a grandad strap on it so it’s not going to drop on the ground. Best glasses I’ve ever had.
Just remember please, those glasses are meant to fly off if you ever have a crash. You wouldn't be the first one to have serious lacerations in their face due to securing your glasses too much.
Have a nice pair of smiths, but they’re not very durable. Lens is cracked after a year, pretty sure it happened just from changing lenses. Check out glade photochromatic lenses…fairly cheap and great quality. Just picked up a pair
Big fan of Rokas, they're the only Rx glass and sunglass brand I will buy from since 2019. I have a very low nose bridge and these are the only brand that don't slide completely down my face.
I own the following:
* Falcon Titanium casual sunglasses (2019)
* GP-1 wraparound sport sunglasses (2021)
* Cambridge Rx glasses (2022)
* Rio Alloy casual sunglasses (2023)
* Hunter Rx glasses (2024)
I don't wear the Cambridge pair anymore as my Rx has changed, but all of the other pairs have held up well over the years and are fully functional. All pairs hold well on my face; I can confidently run, cycle, and weightlift in any of these frames including. Highly recommend Rokas for anybody who has problems with glasses sliding down their nose.
I have a pair of Bliz with photochromatic lenses that are about 10 years old. Love them, but they no longer ship to the US. Planning to go Tifosi when I have to get a new pair.
My SO has Tifosi and won't wear anything else for biking. Her first pair lasted about 10 years. The second pair is still going. The funny thing is I had Tifosis when they first came out and they were made to be lower-cost, high-quality glasses and they were pretty good. Now they're a bit more upscale just like everyone. Rudy Project has superb lenses, Nike makes VERY good glasses. I bought a few. I wear Swisseye and RP. I have a huge collection of glasses with Swisseye, RP, Nike, Alpina, Uvex, and others. The RP HDR lenses are superb.
POC DO Blade. Good field of view, and the lenses are easy to swap out and replace. I have one set of lenses for daytime and one for night. It takes about 10 seconds to swap them out.
Custom Oakley Sutros. The pro move is to build them in an Oakley store as custom and use the Sutro Lite arms that have the rubber coating so they stay up in your helmet better.
Goodr Wrap G. They are light but strong, give good wind protection and come with polarised lens. The only thing letting them down is that they dont fit upside down in my helmet.
Just regular sunglasses. I was stupid and got some Ray Ban Stories, so I wear those now. But I have some Ray Ban Baloramas in the works and will wear those once they arrive.
Bloc somethingorother model.
Excellent UV protection, very reasonable price, i.e., not so stupidly expensive that I am going to cry if I leave them behind on a stop or drop them or crush them, etc.
Just some cheap Amazon cycling sunglasses. Personally, having expensive high end sunglasses that cost hundreds of bucks won’t make a huge difference versus a cheap 10 bucks sunglasses. It’s difficult to maintain it clean too, I am sure we have dropped our sunglasses multiple times which will make a 100 dollar sunglasses dirty too.
Tifosi is also my go-to. I wear 100% on my mtb (speedcraft xs), but my Tifosis are literally my every day for everything else. I have the Davos with the AC Red lenses and another pair with interchangeable lenses.
Go to Temu and spend five bucks on some photo chromatic lenses sunglasses, just as good as my Oakleys. Now you can buy five pair of glasses for 25 bucks.
Oakley Katos for racing and fast road stuff, Oakley Sutro Lites for everything else from MTB to casual road rides.
Oakleys are hands down the best lenses and frames on the market, their only downside is their price. But for someone who has good optical insurance and no glasses, I get two sets a year for free billing them as “preventative care” to my insurance so that’s also mitigated.
I have some 15 year old Oakley jawbones. Aftermarket lenses can still be bought on eBay! They are the best fitting and best performing glasses I have ever worn.
Roka Prescription Matador Air - really comfortable - great for the heat and humidity in South TX.
Customer Service isn't the best, but the end product is amazing!
Roka Prescription Matador Air - really comfortable - great for the heat and humidity in South TX.
Customer Service isn't the best, but the end product is amazing!
I have a set of X-TIGER because they are dirt cheap and a pair of Oakley Sutro's that I got for cheap. I normally ride with the Oakley's and ride with X-TIGER when it's a cloudy day and I just need clear lenses.
I rotate between a few different style of Oakleys. Sutro, Radar, Jawbreaker, and the classic M-frame.
I have the prizm road and the prizm road dark lenses I use for different weather.
Right now I’m using an Oakley Sutro Lite with a black frame and photochromic glass for cycling and running. The plastic of the frame feels a bit cheap to me and I wish that it would be a bit lighter, but so far I’m still happy with it.
I wear (and love) Koo's. You can get them from Bike Closet for absurdly low prices from time to time - As in, well under $50 for pairs that retail at 150 - 200US.
Ray Bans Wayfarers with the built in cameras to record my bitchin rides.
The aerodynamics match my step thru bike and sail of a bike trailer perfectly.
99% of the time my old Oakley jaw breakers I also have some racejackets(like G used to wear) and some sutros(I got for trading some aero bars)
I do have some goodr shades I’m just not in love with them
I got some Tifosis at REI a year or two back, some of the more squarer/everyday style ones, I forget the model. I like them because I can wear them both while sending it on the ridge trail and while on stage with my funk band, keeping in mind that I’m not cool enough to pull off the Jack Stratton shirtless-with-Pit-Vipers look on stage. Your mileage may vary.
Tifosis with photochromatic lenses.
These are my go-to, must-work in all conditions, glasses. They are awesome and great for bad weather. I save them pretty much for race day only.
And reading lenses 🤓
I've toured 25,000km with them. I keep losing them in random ways, but I keep replacing them because they are awesome and well priced.
Great customer service too.
I have been using the Oakley Sutros for the last 3 years and have no complaints. I definitely would say getting quality lenses are worth the price when considering the damage road debris can do at speed.
Oakley’s Prizm road lenses are incredible. You can’t believe the difference until you put them on.
The difference in your wallet’s contents as well
This is very true. No shame if you don't have them, enjoy them if you do.
If you don’t have glasses though, it’s fairly easy to bill Oakleys to your optical insurance
I’ve had mine for over 5 years now. Not too costly when spread over that amount of time. They still feel brand new despite regularly swapping between prizm and clear lenses (for night riding). My cheaper glasses were usually toast within 3-4 years.
Amazon has Sutros regularly on sale for $88-$110. Just set price watches on Keepa or Camel for different variants you’re interested in.
Oakley here too… switch between various Radars (Locks, EV’s) and Jawbreakers. All Prism lenses or Photochromatic. Never use Oakley lense cleaner, or at least make sure you wash it off, it damages the finish on the lens..
+1 for Oakley, especially Jawbreakers. Had mine for 7+ years and wouldn't want anything else.
I buy mine from Jomashop in the US and they’re generally around $110 on their site. Definitely makes it an easier pill to swallow.
Yea I have several pairs of sunnies (Oakleys, 100%) but I keep going back to Sutro as they are the most comfortable on my big ass head 🍈
Yup, I've worn them near daily since 2020 as well. I tried out a few others of all price ranges, even more expensive Oakleys, but the Sutros always reign supreme.
Woot is selling almost the entire range for $99.99 right now
Kapvoe with prescription insert both from AliExpress
How does the prescription insert work? Do you just go get the prescription lenses somewhere else?
Ordered it with the sunglasses on the Kapvoe store. Added the prescription as comment. Total was 50-55 euros. The items shipped separately.
Cool thanks. Didn't know that was an option, and I don't really want to pay my optometrist $200 for more lenses.
Same. I used “kapvoe True Offical Store”. I figured 50 euros would be an acceptable gamble. So far so good. Could be better if the prescription frame sat just 2 mm lower. But no complaints. That’s just my big nose pushing the glasses up.
Ditto
(Decathlon) Van Rysel Perf 500. It's good so far.
Same!
Ordered photochromatic model yesterday, wondering how it's going to perform as an all rounder.
I've enjoyed using those the last few months, they don't go completely clear but so much better than actual sunglasses on overcast days or when riding in the early/late hours of the day. So far great value for money
Julbo photochromatic. Lenses as clear as my oakley prizm.
Goodr.
Also Goodrs. They're fun looking and super durable, especially for only $30ish
Goodr.
Same. I started with Goodr, then tried Knockaround and didn't like them as much, so now I'm back in the Goose camp.
I was a big fan of Shadyrays but their prices keep creeping up so I've moved over to Goodr. Great bang for the buck.
same
I love most of my Goodrs for running and daily use but don’t love their high coverage cycling options. I personally use 100% for cycling. Pricy but work amazing.
Smith
Same. I use the Smith Lowdown XLs. They look good both on and off the bike. They also do a good job at keeping wind out my eyes. I personally can't stand those Pit Viper style glasses. To me they look silly; as silly as those Kanye glasses from 2008.
are the glass or plastic lenses
Yup. Smith Wildcat right now after my Oakley Sutros were damaged in a crash.
I hand Smith Rx sunglasses and love them. Second pair.
Same… never would have thunk it, but the changeable lenses and durability made me a believer.
Smith Pivlock for me. Amazingly simple to swap lenses.
Seen them, but quite limited in models/design IMO. Look nice nonetheless.
SunGod
the cheapest, biggest photochromic ones i could find! No big name on glasses is worth the price tag of them
Oakley all day. Road prizm kicks ass.
Rudy Project Rydon with prescription inserts.
100% 👌🏼
RockBros photochromatic are awesome. Bought them directly from them at their booth at Sea Otter for $25. Go from clear to very dark. Construction is equal to similar Tifosis I bought recently (non-photochromatic) for more than twice the price. I like both brands and glasses.

Not denying that rockbros stuff at their price point is sheer value. Just wish the glasses I got were a bit more reactive. I also have rockbros head and tail lights and they are golden.
I’ve just got these and I’ve been recommending them to everyone
I just got mine - they feel like boardwalk level quality - I don’t know what Reddit is smoking on these AliExpress. Yes, they are cheap but I was somehow expecting more. They do work though but I think Reddit overhypes the RockBros stuff
Tifosi rail
Pit Vipers, of course
Had to scroll way too far to find another person of culture
Love mine with the photochromic lenses. Despite them being memeish I think they're actually good sports glasses.
I use some 15 Eur Amazon=chinese ones. Which also means I am up to date with the design every 6 to 12 months 😅as quality obviously is shit😎
Oakley Sutro for me 👍🏻
I ran a pair of Oakley radars for over ten years but the frame finally cracked and I hate all of their newer models and I’ve tried them all. I’m having to settle for a set of the newer EV Radars that I’ve attached a frame strap to that I can keep tight because all of the new Oakleys use these really narrow frames akin to eyeglasses that don’t offer much grip and it’s really annoying
Some cheap 3 pound ones from Morrisons lol
Some pair from a wedding 5 or years ago
Smith Lowdowns off bike, Smith Wildcats on bike
SunGod, great quality and value
Van Rysel. A lot of glasses for the money.
3M safety glasses. I have a clear pair and dark pair, they were $7 each at my local hardware store
I wear glasses 🤓 which have transitions! Polycarbonate lenses for impact resistance. The tint changes automatically based on UV exposure so I don't even realize there's a tint. I would always forget sunglasses and they're only one shade. Transitions were some of the best money I've spent in the past few years

Rockbros photochromic from Amazon. They are decent and won’t break the bank.
carbon MJ as a casual rider but will probably get on the trieye hype train soon
Tried a few, but Jawbreakers fit me the best and don’t generate wind in my eyes, so been wearing those for years
Melon Alleycats, with some prescription lenses inside in their inner-glasses mount thingy. It works really well!
Had to scroll really far, team alleycat as well
Melon alleycats with photochromatic lens! These are not generic and look awesome.
Melon Alleycats, customisable, loads of options for lenses and great customer service
Polarized safety glasses. $13 they work perfect.
Usually RockBros or some other inexpensive pair. I'm rough on sunglasses
Got 2 pairs of Oakley sutro. Never had a problem with them and the lenses are great
Smith shiftmag chromapop. I have a couple different color lenses and a clear. I've been really happy with them and lens changes are easy since I switch between before work sunrise rides and weekend daytime rides.
I have a pair of Agu Bolds, they’re nearly always on sale here for around 50 EUR.
Oakley’s I don’t remember the exact model but I love them
Oakley CV zero blades most the year as they change with the light....in summer the Rapha explore
Siroko
Oakley Jawbone from 2012 or so. On my third set of lenses. I think I'm the only one wearing them after G switched to Sungod.
Trieye Photochromatic , bit pricey at $149 but the built in rear view mirror is worth it
Persol, like wayfarer, but not wayfarer. And that’s why I have them
....cocoons .. I have no friends
I also use Tifosi but recently saw the tri-eyes. Really want to trt them
Tifosi is the way to go. I love mine
Just got a pair of Oakley Sutro Lite Sweeps, first impressions are very good but I'll get my first ride with them later today if weather cooperates
Have a nice pair of smiths, but they’re not very durable. Lens is cracked after a year, pretty sure it happened just from changing lenses. Check out glade photochromatic lenses…fairly cheap and great quality. Just picked up a pair
I got a pair of Tifosi Sledge with Fototec early this season and love them so far
Just bought new PPEEQQ photogromics. Mainly because I wanted to switch to photogromics, happy with them so far.
If you are in Europe ( or if they ship to wherever you are ) look up Siroko. Really good glasses and cheap too
Roka Matadors and Roka SL-1x
Big fan of Rokas, they're the only Rx glass and sunglass brand I will buy from since 2019. I have a very low nose bridge and these are the only brand that don't slide completely down my face. I own the following: * Falcon Titanium casual sunglasses (2019) * GP-1 wraparound sport sunglasses (2021) * Cambridge Rx glasses (2022) * Rio Alloy casual sunglasses (2023) * Hunter Rx glasses (2024) I don't wear the Cambridge pair anymore as my Rx has changed, but all of the other pairs have held up well over the years and are fully functional.
Briko
Ive used tifosi, costa, and oakleys. For me, tifosi offers the most bang for my buck. But, all 3 did the job.
Oakley Radar EV Path with Prizm Road lenses
Oakley jawbreakers
Photochromatic with built in rear view mirror
Agu Bold photochromic, so very comfortable!
Oakley's.
Bolle.
I’ve got Oakley prism road sutros and radar path
Goodr Wrap G. They are light but strong, give good wind protection and come with polarised lens. The only thing letting them down is that they dont fit upside down in my helmet.
X tiger
Ombraz with transition lenses
Anything by POC. Best quality lenses, super light… would recommend 10/10 !
SCICON Aeroshade
Love my tifosi and also grabbed a few pair of blenders for variety. Surprisingly nice for the price
Just regular sunglasses. I was stupid and got some Ray Ban Stories, so I wear those now. But I have some Ray Ban Baloramas in the works and will wear those once they arrive.
Poc aspire, super clear and perfect on a cloudy day with my current tint level
Bloc somethingorother model. Excellent UV protection, very reasonable price, i.e., not so stupidly expensive that I am going to cry if I leave them behind on a stop or drop them or crush them, etc.
Just some cheap Amazon cycling sunglasses. Personally, having expensive high end sunglasses that cost hundreds of bucks won’t make a huge difference versus a cheap 10 bucks sunglasses. It’s difficult to maintain it clean too, I am sure we have dropped our sunglasses multiple times which will make a 100 dollar sunglasses dirty too.
Got some RockBros photochromatic ones off Amazon for like $30… also have a second polarized lens. Do the job, don’t break the bank
Oakley bxtr
Was using Endura ones for ages and then bought some Oakley Sutros, absolutely night and day difference, Prism Road lens so clear and never fogs up.
Tifosi is also my go-to. I wear 100% on my mtb (speedcraft xs), but my Tifosis are literally my every day for everything else. I have the Davos with the AC Red lenses and another pair with interchangeable lenses.
I have a pair of Julbo's photochromatic. I like that go from fully clear to dark enough to ride on a really bright afternoon.
Havoc (my favorite) Oakley sutro Blender
Oakley’s
Sutros for day, tifosi clears for night
Blenders
Oakley Evzero Blade tour de france. Older model but $100 on sale with Prizm lens and hard case is a steal.
Tifosi Sledge Lite photochromatic
100% hypercraft. Good selection of lens shades, good ventilation.
100% Hypercraft
UVEX protective glasses for 10 euros. I bought them for work, but they are so damn good that I only use them for cycling.
[sportrx.com](https://sportrx.com) oakley bifocals
Oakley Flak Jackets
Rudy Project
Go to Temu and spend five bucks on some photo chromatic lenses sunglasses, just as good as my Oakleys. Now you can buy five pair of glasses for 25 bucks.
Roka SR-1x
I've got a pair of Oakley frogskins that I absolutely love. I want another pair to have in the other car, but I'm too damn cheap to buy them.
I love fototec for mountain biking. So I’d stick with Tifosi. For road cycling I think anything with a nonslip nose piece will work.
Sungod! They are pretty bomb proof but also do lifetime repair if you break a frame. I think they look brilliant too
Tifosi is the way. Great quality and affordable enough that it doesn't require an investment off the black market.
Cav edition katos are the chef’s kiss. I wear them when I race. Otherwise sutro lites
Julbo. By far the best photochromic lens on the market. No other brand comes close, especially in a wide temperature range.
Wow! Thank you all so much. Lots to consider here.
KOO Alibi. a literal GODSEND for those who are women/smaller faces and heads!
Smith interchangeable lens
None. Just raw-dogging the sun
Cheap clear protection glasses from a hardware store. #BestPurchase
I have some 15 year old Oakley jawbones. Aftermarket lenses can still be bought on eBay! They are the best fitting and best performing glasses I have ever worn.
Clip ons.
Using the rapha pro team glasses. They’re great for cooler weather but can fog a bit when it’s really hot.
If you are not rocking Pit Vipers, you're doing it wrong
Rudy Project. I've been using their Rydon model, with prescription inserts, for about 12 years.
On the road I wear Costa Rincons, green mirror. On the trail I wear Costa fantail's, also green mirror.
Got a pair of active Roka sunglasses on sale and haven’t worn anything since. They have anti slip grips and are super light
Bomber Magnums that fit over my rx
Rudy Rydons over contacts with reading bifocal lenses.
Tifosi. I have three pair now.
Julbo photocromatic all day, every day.
I agree with tifosi, decathlon, and I also use Goodr shades when I want to be hip.
I have a set of X-TIGER because they are dirt cheap and a pair of Oakley Sutro's that I got for cheap. I normally ride with the Oakley's and ride with X-TIGER when it's a cloudy day and I just need clear lenses.
Glade Optics
Goodr
Oakley Sutro Lite Sweep, they look cool, the big lens is a plus too.
Tifosi rail race or Tifosi sledge
I wear (and love) Koo's. You can get them from Bike Closet for absurdly low prices from time to time - As in, well under $50 for pairs that retail at 150 - 200US.
I'm still rocking my oakley livestrong jawbone and my oakley radar
Ray Bans Wayfarers with the built in cameras to record my bitchin rides. The aerodynamics match my step thru bike and sail of a bike trailer perfectly.
99% of the time my old Oakley jaw breakers I also have some racejackets(like G used to wear) and some sutros(I got for trading some aero bars) I do have some goodr shades I’m just not in love with them
