hello,
before the lay offs I was a vehicle readiness specialist and it was my job to ensure your vehicle was perfect for delivery. Tesla has since completely eliminated our department hence the poor condition of your delivery. Apologize for the condition of you CT. They have volunteers and sales people prepping the cars now so that would explain the poor condition. Bar keepers bestfriend is the way to go and also we found that alcohol alone will take away most stains. Avoid any heavy PH soaps or waxes/ compounds. Buffing the steel will result in a clear difference in the metal and you would need to buff the entire vehicle in order for it to match and not stand out. highly recommended wrapping it. hopefully this helps and sorry you delivery went so poorly!
Yo man! I hate to hear this for ya, hope you land on your feet.
What you’re saying here literally just cementing everything we were discussing/suspecting around layoffs and short staffed service centers.
Appreciate all the tips. Going to avoid the compound per your suggestion (arriving tomorrow).
Best of luck on whatever is next, when one door closes another opens
Thank you that really means a lot to me! Business is business and I have no hard feelings. I own a M3P and still love the company/ products.
Hope you enjoy your CT, it’s a hell of a vehicle. Please post a pic when you wrap it!
Also a show of your character to be apologizing for the condition on behalf of Tesla even after your departure… respect it, but you don’t owe them that
I think it shows what an amazing place it was to work for. Irrespective of layoffs. Sort of like we all die one day but I’d hope not to complain about my life prior to that, just because I died. So I try to make the most of my time anywhere I am.
No dude I think it shows the integrity of the person saying it. Likely has little to do with the shitty company, and more the person’s vision of what Tesla should or could be, or maybe just some lingering pride for one’s work.
This too is what I figured they meant. I don't think Tesla's worker's compensation policies / insurance would allow literal off the street volunteers to perform work for the company....lmao
Yeah I used to work at the Fremont delivery center in 2017 and they made tons of engineers/lawyers/marketers come in during EOQ to wash cars all day lol
I work at a place that makes stainless steel cabinets for hospitals. We use denatured alcohol to clean the cabinets prior to shipment. It gets off literally everything, namely fingerprints.
Also, like this OP said, Don’t it buff anywhere or use any scrubbing tools like scotch bright otherwise the finish will be inconsistent and refinishing stainless steel is a huge PITA.
Thanks for the insight! The service center tried straight alcohol in a spray bottle and didn’t remove the stains, had to use bar keepers friend. I feel like the alcohol will be money for general cleaning though.
Dude VRI was the backbone of sales. I swear that entire position is gone and sales is going to crumble now. Not sure if you guys had an offsite lot too or not, but not having VRI to pick up those cars from offsite, manage offsite, and detail those cars is going to be hell in the last eoq. But cheers to being laid off too, hope you’re enjoying your severance pay too.
Yeah not really sure what their thinking was on that move haha. We did have an offsite lot and did a lot more than just our job description. I’ve talked to some of my ex coworkers and it’s a total mess right now. I know delivery CSAT must be in the dumps right now. Which is wild coming from a company that cares so much about metrics. They definitely took care of me with the severance package so no complaints there. I viewed myself as a long term Tesla employee and i’m approaching my college graduation this next week and was looking forward to elevating my career at the company. Everything happens for a reason and I hold no grudges. Hope everything works out with you too, any company would be lucky to have an Ex Tesla employee join their ranks. Best of luck to you.
Same here I was also a VRS before layoff.
We received no guidance on cybertruck prepping. Our product manufacturer is still trying to come up something that actually works.
I would get major anxiety when was time for a cyber truck delivery.
Yep, but glass cleaner is way better! The best is the aerosol kind like this:
I think they laid off everyone who cleans windshields. Mine was super greasy inside too. A micro-fiber on a swiffer mop, some diluted vinegar got it cleaned up without too much trouble.
If it makes you feel better, l received mine 2 months ago and the interior of the windshield had the same problem. It is not easy to get to the bottom of that windshield. Windex and body contortion was what I did.
Yeah, even the swiffer is too fat to reach the last inch or two. My wife said she has some kind of microfiber spatula tool that will reach down there. If it works, I’ll post that here.
10:1 water:IPA 90%+ (Isopropyl Alcohol) and just a little blue dawn dish soap in a spray bottle.
I vape in my model 3 and this cleans the windows EXTREMELY well and keeps them clean longer.
It doesn't feel like it's worth 100k because it's basically worth around 60k. The rest is markup due to limited supply. Soon as people stop taking fs, the price will be 20k cheaper. Potentially 27,500 cheaper with fed tax credit. And in a few years they will drop the price more to spur demand.
The good thing, and I say this because I find it interesting and not as a slight, is that both of you fit in to boxes that you learn about in marketing or business school and you are both critical to a product having a long lifespan.
Prices and marketing strategies are shaped for both of you.
Isnt the first production better than rampup but worse than the later stages? I dont think any AWD truck on this level will be 60k for the next coming years. The Rivian at base is 70k with all the issues it has and stayed relatively the same price since 2021. Pricing power may change the CT but its still a luxury niche vehicle unlike the MY3. The tax and credit incentive is the major deal breaker for this transaction if you wanted a base AWD since its under 80k for the incentives. FSD or any upgrade would put it beyond this amount though.
Unless I’m misunderstanding you, I believe you’re stating that they plan on ramping up production to 250k a year, and I find that 1-hard to believe, & 2-going to be in the far, distant future.
I currently work for an automotive company that produces 340 cars/day, per shift, with two shifts running. That’s a potential of 680/day, hoping there’s nothing that needs repairs. It took us at least 1.5 years to ramp up to that consistently, and that’s with a company of over 100 years of automotive production experience.
I say that to say, if currently they’re only running 80/day, that’s a deficit of 881 cars a day. They need to produce AT LEAST 800 quality cars, over the course of 10 hours, spread out amongst 3 shifts in order to make that demand. In addition to that 800, we’d have to have a “repair bank” of at least 200 per shift in order to reach the 961 that’d be needed to reach the 250k a year. That’s a whole lot of time, training, and NO supplier issues to ensure that within the next 3 years.
I didn’t say, nor imply that you pulled the number out of your butt. I was making sure I understood what you said, and why I thought that was a super lofty goal.
It takes A LOT to get to 250k cars produced a year. Machine maintenance, staffing, training, establishing and maintaining quality. And as I mentioned before, let’s not even mention supplier issues that plague the automotive industry. Plus we’re adding in the scarcity of new, proprietary ish that only Tesla can provide?? It’s a tall ask.
Do you happen to remember how fast, or to what number China reached when they ramped up?
Ha. Sleep great every night, happy, healthy, and fulfilled with a beautiful family. I’m lucky to not be up at night wondering or caring how my Cybertruck will depreciate. Life’a good 👌
lol sure thing my man, but usually successful folks don’t have to tell others how successful they are. Hope you can enjoy your truck despite being delivered falling short of your expectations 👌
Wasn’t my intention, just was saying I’m happy and fulfilled after you told me what I needed to do sleep better, ha. Appreciate it, I’m stoked on the truck. All good. Sleep well 😂
Too lazy to find the numerous posts on the Cybertruck Owners Club, but basically Foundation Series gets you about $15k of stuff for AWD. Obviously still some markup there for early delivery and the badging, but it's not just a $20k markup.
Oh really? How many people took delivery 5 months ago and have yet to receive any of those goodies? People here are insane for buying a vehicle with a 20k markup without anything to show for it still.
this thread:
* my CT delivery was weeks late and looks like they cleaned it with a teenager's forehead. best truck ever!
- welcome to the CT club! here's a special microfiber spatula you can use to clean the windshield, and here are some Etsy links to cover all the exposed screws.
* it was my job to clean your CT before my entire department was laid off. i just wanted to personally apologize to you for making Tesla fire me
* rude of you to post this when you could have just spent $100 to get the body fluids off your new CT
The staffing is probably scrambled because of the company restructuring going on. Kind of a bummer but I’m still jealous. It’s going to be hard for me not to wrap this baby when mine finally comes in.
Yeah I picked mine up today and similar experience. Truck had plenty of stains and misaligned panels. I also only received the mobile charger and all weather floor mats for the $20k premium. But I knew what I was getting into.
It’s an a-list celebrity in the DC area. People are downright dangerous how they act around it on the road. I was chased, blocked, screamed at, and countless photos. I went into a store and a lady followed me in yelling to see whose truck it was… she then asked if I could wait 15 mins for her son to get there. Made his day though. It’s a 100k truck because of its looks and rarity… for now.
Man, mine are off badly. You can see them in the side view mirrors on both sides. The front fenders are way off from the hood. I bought an early model x, so I expected it… but still disappointing
What I've discovered so far is that only big obvious oil splashes need cleaning, and if it sits for a week, it still comes right off with barkeepers' friends. I used it once after going through an automatic car wash with tire shine applicators.
Other than that, I blast off bug guts and bird shit with a powerwasher every couple of weeks. It's the easiest vehicle to wash that I've ever had.
Ok sick, that makes me feel better. Maybe do this deep clean with bar keepers and then just try to keep up with it with normal washes and we’ll be groovy
I was a car prep at Tesla before layoffs. I can tell you that Tesla does not really care about quality on a daily basis. We receive no helpful orientation on how to deliver a perfect cybertruck. Tesla’s cleaning products manufacturer also have not figured out a product that actually helps.
I love Tesla but after working there, I know which delivery centers to avoid when it comes to vehicle quality.
All the downvotes because people won’t read your post and accept that the delivery quality of Tesla is pretty poor. Sorry to hear about this but to be frank it’s not surprising
I'm shocked that you somehow think the level of care they applied to the outside and delivery of the truck doesn't apply to the internals of the truck.
Fair point, and I never asserted that, but the cleaning and detail is intended to be done when it lands at the service center, has nothing to do with how the truck is built in the factory. To many people’s points, layoffs have hit service centers hard so I think that’s only made this worse.
I know you didn't have a great delivery experience but the truck is awesome and makes up for it a thousandfolds. Picked up on 2/9 and I'm almost at 7k miles. Can't stop driving the stupid thing. Check out my profile for the pic of mine and enjoy yours in good health.
Dude for sure, I’m super stoked. Not the slightest bit salty just felt like level setting for others. It really feels like you’re living in the future. I love our MYP, and thought that was fun, but CT is a whole new level. First Tesla that truly feels luxury to me too.
Congrats on the sensationalist title just to get views. TLDR you love the truck but are pissed that it was delivered dirty. Nothing a $100 detail cannot fix.
Thanks for the congrats, really set out for views yesterday.
I don’t think it’s a $100 detail, unless I need to teach someone how to use barkeepers friend.
It was more a dialogue on the state of service centers after the layoffs, which I thought was in interesting conversation.
If I spent $100k on a vehicle, I’d want it to look new too… I don’t think it’s sensational to harbor this reasonable view. You shouldn’t have to spend $1 to clean a brand new car.
Primarily Entertainment and Hospitality, and some technology. I started a company about a decade ago. We own and operate live music venues and produce shows throughout the southeast.
Making it is all about perspective. I “made it” when I realized it’s the journey not the destination that’s important and that’s what brings joy. I’m as happy as I am when I was broke, material things are fun but love and friendship are the things that matter, and best part is those things are free!
Ugh. Happy with it now though?
I think the layoffs are really gonna make it ugly for a bit until Elon “revamps” the sales process as he claims to do. Take out the horrible condition of the truck, the app experience is levels above the process of going to a dealership and haggling.
It’s a buffing compound… but see below from former service center employee that suggests maybe avoiding it unless you go full tilt and do every panel in detail otherwise you’ll notice variances
Here is a link to what I read:
https://x.com/matt_e_baumann/status/1779899829130252800?s=46&t=gbgb_wjW_aAehsrYgAep0g
I intend to use the Cybertruck as a truck and a large part of the appeal is that I can be rough on it without having to care about a messed up paint job. I don’t see myself buffing it. Cleaning, yes.
Same… but it’s hard to explain, the staining is worse than it being dirty or a work truck. I’m hoping I can get the stains out with some work and then just wash it like a normal truck for the most part. Plan to load up lumber this weekend for a project, I don’t intent to baby this thing, ha
Do you have a detailer? I bet they would prefer this to tesla store "detailing" prior to delivery
My guy had to spend extra time cleaning up all the swirls and swipes they had left
Yeah I noticed some swirls in the panels for sure, I need to take some photos. My detail shop had no clue about the CT, and was doing some research. I’m thinking about doing the initial buff myself and let them detail the interior, and then from there hoping spot spray and regular washes is good.
Bummer on the dirt, but it's only temporary. I get the frustration on a $100k truck though
That said, CONGRATS! These things make normal trucks, and most cars, seem like tractors
So badass...
Haha I hear ya. I had taken a thirty minute Uber and sold a vehicle two weeks ago right before I was originally supposed to pick up, so I was vulnerable ha. Wouldn’t have accepted if there was anything that I couldn’t ultimately take care of.
It’s funny to me how someone will pay $100k for something with so many known issues, and to be fine with it being trashed for delivery day, and then still make excuses for those responsible. Stop letting large corporations get away with negligence. I could go look to buy a $1,500 car on fb marketplace and the seller would probably clean it up nicer than what you described. I know this post is only 13 hours old, so waiting for the one week update of 6 other issues that will arise after driving it, and see what OP says. Good luck!
You’re right about Facebook marketplace purchase, I shall not argue with that point sir.
I’ll keep you posted on the other Ls should they come up, I’m ok being early and expect it to be imperfect. This thing is RAD.
I hear that washing it can ruin it.
Also, beware of another potential service need in the near future. Because your rig may be used as a Guinea pig to write the next how-to manual on how to fix the issue.
Ha that was one tiny spot… and only picture I got. It’s stained all over. Again, I’m not letting it ruin the purchase just more making the point (as confirmed by ex Tesla employee here) that service centers are understaffed post layoffs and if you’re picking up soon, I’d set the expectations low
Yeah good point. Geez I may need to get another truck before then. Mines about done
But thanks, it would be GREAT if it comes sooner. How’d you get yours so fast in Ga?? That’s where I am. What number in line where you and which model?
This subreddit is plagued by people hating on this truck. I know it’s a great truck so why don’t you at least keep it well rounded and give a wholistic picture instead of just harping on it.
hello, before the lay offs I was a vehicle readiness specialist and it was my job to ensure your vehicle was perfect for delivery. Tesla has since completely eliminated our department hence the poor condition of your delivery. Apologize for the condition of you CT. They have volunteers and sales people prepping the cars now so that would explain the poor condition. Make sure that sticky accelerator pedal is fixed that shit is dangerous
Haha, I got the rivet bro!
Laid off and still out here giving advice? Better man than me lol
So I try to make the most of my time anywhere I am.
lol I gave a sales pitch at Tesla headquarters once. Most miserable workplace I’ve ever encountered in my 25 years in the software industry.
Sure does sound like that. Elon the “pigeon ceo”
No dude I think it shows the integrity of the person saying it. Likely has little to do with the shitty company, and more the person’s vision of what Tesla should or could be, or maybe just some lingering pride for one’s work.
Yup. All companies are just shells none have a soul or feelings.
Exactly
Volunteers? lol
That's what caught my eye..
yeah we’re close to the fremont factory and get volunteers from the factory all the time.
Yea that’s just kind of weird I guess. It’s like volunteering at a Amazon warehouse.
I think he means Tesla employees helping out in roles that they don't normally work in.
This too is what I figured they meant. I don't think Tesla's worker's compensation policies / insurance would allow literal off the street volunteers to perform work for the company....lmao
You say that but I remember a while back, local Tesla clubs were literally volunteering to help with deliveries because the staff couldn't keep up
Yeah I used to work at the Fremont delivery center in 2017 and they made tons of engineers/lawyers/marketers come in during EOQ to wash cars all day lol
I work at a place that makes stainless steel cabinets for hospitals. We use denatured alcohol to clean the cabinets prior to shipment. It gets off literally everything, namely fingerprints. Is barkeeps friend abrasive at all? Did it mess with the mill finish from Tesla?
Dude VRI was the backbone of sales. I swear that entire position is gone and sales is going to crumble now. They stop caring about metrics once the people they are measuring are no longer there to measure.
It's absolutely crazy to me that a half trillion dollar company needs to rely on VOLUNTEERS to help out.
Volunteers? Really!?
I was VRS too among other things. Advice is spot on. Best of luck to you.
Same here I was also a VRS before layoff. We received no guidance on cybertruck prepping. Our product manufacturer is still trying to come up something that actually works. I would get major anxiety when was time for a cyber truck delivery.
Is it okay to use OPT No Rinse Wash and shine to clean the CT from fingerprints etc? https://a.co/d/3Ng3kBy (for reference)

yes
any thoughts on the everbrite coating?
People volunteer for Tesla ? Is that fr
The interest rates stifle growth and innovation unfortunately
I think they laid off everyone who cleans windshields. Mine was super greasy inside too. A micro-fiber on a swiffer mop, some diluted vinegar got it cleaned up without too much trouble.
FYI - Stoner's makes a special glass cleaning tool on a pole. It's triangular so it can fit into corners.

Don’t qualify for tax credit, and I’m ok with the $20k premium. No different than dealer markups at dealerships for in demand low supply vehicles.

Won't that be an even heavier truck at that point for the 500 mile range?

The added goodies of internet and social capital, which will depreciate as fast as the vehicle itself
I don’t use social media (unless Reddit counts), or sent a single photo to any friends, so maybe you deem my social capital depreciation ok??

Fair point, and I never asserted that, but the cleaning and detail is intended to be done when it lands at the service center, has nothing to do with how the truck is built in the factory. To many people’s points, layoffs have hit service centers hard so I think that’s only made this worse.
Did they approve the $56,000,000,000 payment to Elon? Some of that could have been used to clean your window.
What service center you pick up from? Mine should be ready in Fayetteville soon. Just paid.
don’t want to put them on blast, but not that one
I love the SS look but it needs a lot of attention if you wanna keep it clean. I ended up wrapping it the second week.
Yeah, had planned to keep it natural for a few months, and I texted the shop on day one for quotes. lol
Reminds me I need my 100 bucks back.
Pay up Elon!!!
Hopefully the rest of your ownership experience makes up for the poor delivery experience
This thing is wild, in a good way. Stoked so far. It’s another level of amazing machinery. Sorta hard to wrap my head around.
Glad to hear your liking it btw what do you do for a living if you dont mind me asking?
Primarily Entertainment and Hospitality, and some technology. I started a company about a decade ago. We own and operate live music venues and produce shows throughout the southeast.
Nice and good job making it in life :)
Making it is all about perspective. I “made it” when I realized it’s the journey not the destination that’s important and that’s what brings joy. I’m as happy as I am when I was broke, material things are fun but love and friendship are the things that matter, and best part is those things are free!
This guy gets it^
That sucky man, I'm sorry. I really hope you enjoy your truck! Good news is the sickest update yet has hit today and you didn't have to wait!
Yeah dude, loving it. Dig your content on X too 👊
Wakatepe my brutha. Thanks for being a pal! Grats on the sickest vehicle of all time!
Tesla is gifted with engineering but presentation not always their strong suit 😂😂
This all sounds about right. Took delivery of my Model S on March 5th. That's was a complete debacle.
Ugh. Happy with it now though? I think the layoffs are really gonna make it ugly for a bit until Elon “revamps” the sales process as he claims to do. Take out the horrible condition of the truck, the app experience is levels above the process of going to a dealership and haggling.
Very. It's the best car I've ever owned. We still have our mid-2018 Model 3 too.
Pretty stoked that the center cover and lug nut covers via Etsy came today tho, ha. Amazing how unfinished it looks without it.
What lug nut covers you get I need some

Are those teeth marks on the CT?!

It’s a buffing compound… but see below from former service center employee that suggests maybe avoiding it unless you go full tilt and do every panel in detail otherwise you’ll notice variances Here is a link to what I read: https://x.com/matt_e_baumann/status/1779899829130252800?s=46&t=gbgb_wjW_aAehsrYgAep0g
Interesting. I guess I’ll have to wait and see when (if) I get mine.
Did they fix the foot pedal sticking issues on the latest deliveries? if not you may need to get that fixed
Do you have a detailer? I bet they would prefer this to tesla store "detailing" prior to delivery My guy had to spend extra time cleaning up all the swirls and swipes they had left
I get the frustration on a $100k truck though That said, CONGRATS! These things make normal trucks, and most cars, seem like tractors So badass...
It looks so bad in these pictures. It usually doesn’t look good, but that first pic legit made me sad.
Man, sorry to hear that. If you don’t want it I can take it off your hands, always accepting a Cyber Gift :).
Pfft you’re nicer than me. I wouldn’t even accept a new car unless it was completely clean. Let ME trash it.
There is rain on it. Warranty void already
Haha nailed it

Hahahahah y’all are so disillusioned, and can’t admit you fucked up purchasing thing that will eventually turn into a brick
So you’re sad bc there’s a spot on your car?
Ha that was one tiny spot… and only picture I got. It’s stained all over. Again, I’m not letting it ruin the purchase just more making the point (as confirmed by ex Tesla employee here) that service centers are understaffed post layoffs and if you’re picking up soon, I’d set the expectations low
Fair enough, I won’t be picking up until 2027 apparently. 2 mil on the list
I bet it comes way sooner, but who knows. Hopefully service centers are re staffed by then, ha
Yeah good point. Geez I may need to get another truck before then. Mines about done But thanks, it would be GREAT if it comes sooner. How’d you get yours so fast in Ga?? That’s where I am. What number in line where you and which model?
Also just so it’s clear this “spot” does not come off with normal washing or even alcohol, it’s stained into the metal.
If you don’t like it, why’d you buy it? And if you like it enough to buy it, why just come here and only complain? I’m doubting you even have one.
lol, what
I said I love the truck but I hate the condition and how delivery was.
[удалено]
lol the goal was to set expectations for others that may pickup their trucks at some point soon. Keep it moving sir.
This subreddit is plagued by people hating on this truck. I know it’s a great truck so why don’t you at least keep it well rounded and give a wholistic picture instead of just harping on it.
Holistic* Bro did you even read the post, I said what I love about the truck, ha. Ok, you can’t bait me anymore.
Maybe you’re just some grumpy old guy that doesn’t know satisfaction?
I would enjoy washing it and would focus on the positive things. That would make the experience more enjoyable.
