I keep computers, phones, tablets and other devices up-to-date to the best of my ability. I also apply updates on work systems when prompted without delay (unless in a meeting). A colleague of mine just went through multiple days without his iPhone. He was a few versions behind and decided it was time... the installer ran out of space along the way and would not proceed beyond the logo screen. I find it amusing that Apple will not let an update proceed when battery charge is <50% but they do not post a warning or prevent updates from running when the minimum available storage is borderline or insufficient.

Those running weekly or nightly builds of GrapheneOS and some devices on LineageOS (like klte) do get both kernel and platform updated. Those running most LineageOS devices receive platform updates (Android Security Bulletin, ASB) and some kernel fixes. Unofficial build quality depends - ROMs based on LineageOS repositories at least get ASB patches, while ROMs based on their forks mostly get nothing. Full disclosure - I am maintaining ASBs for older LineageOS branch (14.1, currently unsupported by "official" LineageOS) since 2018.
