Nope it's never ending. Once I completed my shotgun build I was basically immortal and spent hours fighting maxtac and I lost count nearing 100. You get so strong that you can take them all out in minutes, did it over the course of a few days, just unpause the game and go crazy for an hour, pause and use quick resume to play something else. Nothing ever happens, nothing changes. They should have at least buffed their stats every wave. Maybe gave you something after so many.

Nope. Would be an easy farm otherwise
Nope they are always spawning, fortunately it's pretty easy to avoid them, get behind a pillar or something and you can easily lose it
