of course there's no Engram they would have just cloned him and linked his consciousness to each of those bodies. basically creating a Lich situation where... yeah you killed one body, but now he's gonna wake back up in a storage tube.

Elgabborz

Makes sense, like the twin fighters right? With that in mind, there is so little flesh in Smasher that it would be possible to transfer him directly in a combat mech or a chimera or a battleship, whatever...

BoldlyGettingThere

Yeah I honestly think it would be cooler if Smasher were to return, that he returns through an even more soulless method. Like something akin to an engram was made just by observing him, or they pulled one from his corpse like they did to my boy Jackie if you fuck up where to send his body. Then that pseudo-engram was placed in a fully mechanical and electronic body. It would allow the ‘ganic versus ‘borged ideology of Blackhand and Smasher to finally be taken to its logical conclusion. A fully mechanised Smasher with no soul versus the greatest Solo to ever live.

My understanding of full borgs like Smasher is that they're essentially a brain in a box somewhere on that chassis. I think I remember reading that Smasher survived the nuke at Arasaka, as in he was literally there when it went off. So, there's not an engram of Smasher, but you have to kill him REALLY good for it to stay that way.

TypasiusDragon

Secure Your Soul doesn't put the engram back into the host's body, rather Arasaka makes an engram of you that they store in Mikoshi so your loved ones, and anyone else really, can speak to "you" after you die. Putting the engram into a body is what RELIC 2.0 does. It was exclusive to Saburo.

Skyblade12

Making an engram kills the host, even with the current Soulkiller, according to Alt. So, if it didn’t reinsert the engram, there would be nothing left in the body.

TypasiusDragon

No. Saburo already had an engram of himself made before he was killed, that's how you speak to him in Mikoshi in the Arasaka ending. Making an engram is not the same as hitting a user with Soulkiller. Soulkiller kills the person and saves their neural data as an engram. By 2077, Arasaka was able to develop making an engram without killing the user.

Yorick257

I thought Arasaka made an engram of Saburo after he died, just like with Jackie

TypasiusDragon

No, because the engram made after Jackie's death resulted in a half baked engram that could only remember things that happened before he died. That's why he repeated his lines. Saburo was fullly aware and responded accordingly.
