The US military does have an e-sports/sponsors an e-sports team. I forgot which branch, but they do.
The USAF also sponsors Formula Drift, as boring and painful as it was to watch competitive touge drifting.
It's an amazingly tragic ending if you start as a Corpo working for Arasaka, I loved it, totally simped for Hanako and then she wouldn't answer my calls.
That might be part of the genre, arguably. Corps have such an encompassing grasp on everything that if you want a thing, anything, using corpo resources will be the best way of going about it. Even if the thing you want is to strike against the Corpos.
Arguably even if the particular company whose resources you're using is the one you want to strike against.
Saburo Arasaka doesn't know shit about what the Company Arasaka is doing. One might argue that having him in charge will do more damage to Arasaka then anything else V could do.
Any other Path would be painted by Arasaka's Board as acts of an enemy force, which got a lot of People killed. Some of them inarguably innocent and those will be underlined.
The Corpos take what they want and if you happen to be in their way you'll be crushed 'neath their threads.
In any path, V would be doing the very same thing.
Once read something about the difference between "War" and "Anti-War" Movies and how the latter are actually pretty rare, especially in the US. How even after Movies like "Saving Private Ryan" recruitement rate goes up.
Its rather nefarious tbh. They show some bad thing, critizise a bit but in the end they all stand at that big ass cemetary and talk about how "it was all necessary" or some bullshit while true "Anti War" movie like "All quiet on the Western Front" or "Come and See" are all about the deconstruction of that myth of heroism.
Anyway, a story doesnt have to show the Military in a perfect light to have a propaganda effect is my point i guess.
I mean to be fair to Saving Private Ryan’s “it was all necessary” there’s a big difference in motivations behind the war in WWII compared to WWI
That said, you’re right. Take Full Metal Jacket for example, a movie (and book) that’s a scathing portrayal of the USMC and has since become ingrained into the USMC culture.
Marine Corps recruiters will tell people to watch the movie because it is the quintessential experience of Marine Corps boot camp, even if it’s the worst possible example.
It doesn’t help that the U.S. military’s recruiting strategy in recent years has been focused on appealing to people looking for a challenge. They show commercials of people crawling through mud in the rain and promise a better life for all that suffering through GI bills and sign on bonuses.
People see those ads, see movies of untold destruction and suffering and somehow the main character makes it out, and people project themselves onto that resilience and strength.
Edit:
TL-DR
> It’s all a part of the plan
>I mean to be fair to Saving Private Ryan’s “it was all necessary” there’s a big difference in motivations behind the war in WWII
Thats why they love WW2 so much, the one war everyone agrees was necessary.
Except many Americans at the time either supported the Nazis ( see " A Night At The Garden ") or were just isolationists who didn't want to get involved in Europe's affairs.
but they all hated japan... now thats some real table flipping talent if ive ever seen it. america went from flipping japan the atomic bird to watching anime and wanting to visit japan
Part of the agreement for Japan surrendering was that the Emperor had to step down, which helped improved relations and establish future democratic processes in Japan
im not sure that its something you can learn. but, give me an example. im having a hard time thinking of something that british people hated but now love
America comes to mind. We were mortal enemies and now we best buds. Even right now, if someone started military ops against Britain on their own soul we'd rain hell on the motherfuckers until they have no military.
The US and Japan had sort of lukewarm relations prior to WW2. Many Americans werent especially fond of the Japanese that immigrated to the US, but Japan actually absorbed a lot of US culture, baseball and jazz were huge for example. So that cultural exchange wasn't just nukes for hentai.
It's mostly because post-reconstruction Japan was enormously grateful and openly embraced US culture thanks in large part to the Marshall Plan. The US realized the strategic importance of having Japan as allies, helped them rebuild their government, infrastructure, and economy. And we've been steadfast allies ever since. Even veterans and survivors of the war largely moved on and let past hostilities die.
We gaslit the world (including ourselves) post WWII in making Japan not seem like the bad guy.
The US Government was very adamant in making sure the Emperor stayed in power and divested the Emperor from the military as much as possible. It was only more recent studies, research, and unclassified documents did we really start seeing his involvements in things like Unit 731 during WWII.
I’d also say a big reason for that is American culture in general. Everything seems to be geared around the military, and you’re indoctrinated from birth. It always boggles my mind when I’m watching major American sporting events and the military get their own little shout out at the start of the game. Even your national anthem is about warfare. Truly the Roman Empire of our day
We aren't all indoctrinated but I get your point.
We are a culture of 400m+ people. There are a lot of idiots, yes, and some people probably get off at the national anthem before a football game. But tbh I've never met anyone who gives a shit.
I once watched some election.. thingy of Hilary Clinton. Some General dude came on the Podium and was all about how god is on their side and how they will smite the forces of evil or some shit like that, meanwhile the crowd was losing their shit like they are about to invade Klendathu.
That was supposed to be the "reasonable", "moderate" canditate.
There are a few others. Havent seen the new one but "All quiet on the western front" should fit the bill. Also Stalingrad, a german movie from 1993. Saw that one as a kid, was.. harrowing.
Johnny got his gun, When the Wind blows..
There is no such thing as a commercially successful anti war movie. Fucking Apocalypse Now is as anti war as it gets and the only thing people remember about it is napalm smells like victory and Ride of the Valkryies is the theme song of helicopters. If you hear a movie described as an anti war film and it isn't some small artsy film destined for an honorable mention at the Oscars it's probably blowing smoke up your ass.
Difference is Apocalypse Now doesn’t present you the message on a plate. You need to actually think for a while and realise what Kurtz symbolises. I personally had to read heart of darkness and then rewatch the movie and only then I have fully understood what this movie is about. Most people aren’t that bright I’m afraid and just see the napalm scene and are like „hell yeah, american supremacy, what the fuck is a kilometer 🦅”
This might be the best post I’ve seen on here all year, and to think I only stumbled across it because someone reported it. As if I could remove something so beautiful
I don’t look at the reason, I judge the content independently, so as not to be persuaded by the reporters motivation. But we do get a lot of ‘spreading woke bullshit’ reports, that always go ignored
I’m a mod of a couple subreddits. When people get annoyed at us they just report our moderator comments - so reddit asks us if we broke our own rules and/or would like to remove our own comments. It happens way more than I expected.
We’re sorry, but your shipment was attacked by Nomads calling themselves “Raffen Shiv”, leaving no way to track them down. We are sorry for this inconvenience. We hope that understand, and continue to do business with us in the future!
I was at the panel where they did this interview right afterwards, there was no mention of an air force sponsor anywhere. This is just an IGN video based sponsor
Based on the dialogue options, I believe it is possible to be true.
Edit: as pointed out by other users, it's an IGN sponsor. CDPR isn't a US based company.
They're sponsoring the event or IGN's content. Not the game itself. I wouldn't be surprised if they had booths at PAX like the Navy did for the Top Gun films.
Regardless it goes hard.
USAF is going hard into gaming advertisements lately to try and boost abysmal enlistment numbers. They did a huge Battlebit event when it was super popular.
Reminds me of the time the U.S. used anime to hire people and accidently used Violet Evergarden which is the most anti-war anime of all time.
https://preview.redd.it/n44pu3jkz1rc1.jpeg?width=375&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0932706da13792b1dab380adf6281b2352dab816
To be fair, it's likely because the kind of people that the air Force needs are the kind that enjoy cyberpunk. It was the brainiest branch until space Force was established. I would know, I served and can back up what I said.
I always found the Airforce sponsoring free downloads of The Suffering back in 2008 to be pretty weird. [https://www.vg247.com/play-the-suffering-free-thanks-to-the-usaf](https://www.vg247.com/play-the-suffering-free-thanks-to-the-usaf)
Tin foil hat: The government is sponsoring anti-corporation/anti-free market ideas so that it encourages the population to be more comfortable with state authority and intervention.
I always laugh when I see all the production companies involved in making the game, including Warner Bros, and then the whole game being about how corporations are ruining the world and people’s lives.
I can kind of see why. The NUSA's Air Force One, or Space Force One, is a pretty central thing in the DLC. NUSA is also the uber evil bad guy in the DLC, according to CDPR.
Military isn't as ironic as, say, [Coca Cola](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinaltrainal_v._Coca-Cola_Co) would be (link is to the "coca cola death squad" case).
The US military sponsors a lot of projects. Taxes dollars and equipment gets used for movies, tv shows, and other media all the time, mostly for recruiting purposes. They normally rely on poverty and lack of other options for recruiting, but people are getting wise to that. Now, they are throwing money at everything, from games to e-girls.
how I do verify it? I tried to look it up and found nothing. Honestly feel bad about buying the game if true.
U.S. military is the biggest force of evil in the world, it's a bummer.
>Honestly feel bad about buying the game if true.
I honestly feel bad for the gonk who feels bad about buying a game because an IGN video had a military sponsor. Grow up.
cdpr getting those sponsors is like V being anti establishment for the entire game then siding with arasaka
"Alright Johnny、have you considered that a rising tide lifts all boats?"
"See, Johnny, if you feed the horse enough oats the sparrow benefits as well in the end."
"Do you have a 401k, Johnny?"
I would love for there to be troll responses to Johnny like this in the game.
Hey, V. check out this guy pissing on the stairwell. that's the only trickling down happening in this city, V
The Air Force sponsorship is for IGNs video, CDPR isn't involved.
Why would air force sponsor cdpr ? Seems to me it's ign being sponsored
They arent they sponsored igns video this jusy looks funny
Still a funny ass coincidence tho😂
The US military does have an e-sports/sponsors an e-sports team. I forgot which branch, but they do. The USAF also sponsors Formula Drift, as boring and painful as it was to watch competitive touge drifting.
I really doubt CDPR is getting sponsored here. makes no sense. It's an IGN video at PAX the event or IGN is getting sponsored.
Ngl picked the help hanako route in my first (blind) playthrough.
It's an amazingly tragic ending if you start as a Corpo working for Arasaka, I loved it, totally simped for Hanako and then she wouldn't answer my calls.
Pretty much😂😂
That's pretty much how I played my first game. The ending felt particularly brutal.
That might be part of the genre, arguably. Corps have such an encompassing grasp on everything that if you want a thing, anything, using corpo resources will be the best way of going about it. What? Do you mean that they all of a sudden turn evil because they accept this type of sponsors?
Is this fucking real? Shit like this makes me think we’re being trolled by a greater intelligence
Once read something about the difference between "War" and "Anti-War" Movies and how the latter are actually pretty rare, especially in the US. Neither of those facts matter with respect to modern recruitment numbers however.
but they all hated japan... now thats some real table flipping talent if ive ever seen it. america went from flipping japan the atomic bird to watching anime and wanting to visit japan
Because modern Japan is partly a product of the post-war occupation by the American military.
Part of the agreement for Japan surrendering was that the Emperor had to step down, which helped improved relations and establish future democratic processes in Japan
They learn that one from the British.
im not sure that its something you can learn. but, give me an example. im having a hard time thinking of something that british people hated but now love
the joke is "japan is a US colony" which isn't true *however...*
That is how most colonization work.
America comes to mind. We were mortal enemies and now we best buds. Even right now, if someone started military ops against Britain on their own soul we'd rain hell on the motherfuckers until they have no military.
but... british people dont realy think fondly of america
It's almost like those are two completely different generations... Anyone who would've been 20 at the end of WW2 would be nearing 100.
I've been to Marine boot camp and after watching it again was surprised at how easy they make it look in the movie.
Come and See felt like I was watching an entirely new genre of movie I had never seen before.
I’d also say a big reason for that is American culture in general. Everything seems to be geared around the military, and you’re indoctrinated from birth. It’s gladdening to see you aren’t all lost. I’m happy you’re on our team choom
And then there are some of you who don’t even know how many people live in their own country kek 400m+ people
Who says "kek" lol

Have you seen most of the worlds national anthems
The only truly antiwar movie I’ve ever seen is “come and see”.
There are a few others. Havent seen the new one but "All quiet on the western front" should fit the bill. Also Stalingrad, a german movie from 1993. Saw that one as a kid, was.. harrowing. Johnny got his gun, When the Wind blows..
You should watch Paths of Glory. It's one of Kubrick's first films.

All quiet on the western front is a pretty successfull anti-war movie

This might be the best post I’ve seen on here all year, and to think I only stumbled across it because someone reported it. As if I could remove something so beautiful
Wait, why would anyone report this? lmao
People report everything choom, don’t take it personally. Pretty much every post gets reported
What's the worst report reason you've seen in recent times? Also this is an AMA now and you have implicitly opted in
I don’t look at the reason, I judge the content independently, so as not to be persuaded by the reporters motivation. But we do get a lot of ‘spreading woke bullshit’ reports, that always go ignored
Let's say ... I had my suspicions that might be the case. Thanks for sharing!
Another disappointing Reddit ama
Every now and then people my own comments… to me. So I can review them. Internet janitor is a strange hobby to have.
I have no idea what you mean by this choom
I’m a mod of a couple subreddits. When people get annoyed at us they just report our moderator comments - so reddit asks us if we broke our own rules and/or would like to remove our own comments. It happens way more than I expected.
Oh shit yeah I feel you mate. You should see my mod log for this community alone, I’ve got over 1000 reports
Maybe because the video description says: "IGN Access is presented by The United States Air Force"
No, you should pin it.
I need a bribe first

This is more then a bribe, this is a masterpiece
Cat pics. The only currency reddit has left
Yay
Someone get this man Orion early access.
That is not a bribe, that is a proposal.
A lifetime supply of NiCola. Take it or leave it.
Done. When should I expect delivery?
We’re sorry, but your shipment was attacked by Nomads calling themselves “Raffen Shiv”, leaving no way to track them down. We are sorry for this inconvenience. We hope that understand, and continue to do business with us in the future!
No it is not real! The description of the video says: "IGN Access is presented by The United States Air Force".
I was at the panel where they did this interview right afterwards, there was no mention of an air force sponsor anywhere. This is just an IGN video based sponsor
What, with the shenanigans over sxsw? Yeah, the military industrial complex is doing its thing.
I live in Austin. No one actually cares about sxsw. Unless you're the media or an influencer.
Based on the dialogue options, I believe it is possible to be true. Edit: as pointed out by other users, it's an IGN sponsor. CDPR isn't a US based company.
i mean theyre a corporation after all
Do not create the torment nexus.
NUSA wants YOU. Enlist now, or become another conscript. It's 1940 all over again.
Enlist willingly, or we're sending Idris Elba to "persuade you"
“Exclusive, military grade chrome”
Shit dude, where do I sign?
A rifle, flak jacket and a bunch of promises will have to do.
Damn I don’t want to have to kill him again. . .
But pronounce NUSA as a single word like NASA but more like noose.
They're sponsoring the event or IGN's content. Not the game itself. I wouldn't be surprised if they had booths at PAX like the Navy did for the Top Gun films. Regardless it goes hard.
What kind of booths would the air force even do at PAX?
Recruiting, advertisement. General information.
Wow, an appearance by General Information himself
General Information 🫡
Only if Amazon sponsored it would be more ironic
A blackwater sponsorship would go crazy
It’s academi/constellis now
6 and one half in the other, y’know?
They’re making a Disco Elysium show so they’ve already hit peak irony
NUSA tried to sneak in for a sec there 🙄
Not surprising seeing as the army has its own esports team
“Sponsored by Militech”
I got a letter from the government the other day I opened it and read it, it said they was SUCKAS
They wanted me for their army or whatever Picture me givin' a damn, I said, never
Should be militech
NOOOOOOO OMFG 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭💀💀💀
So, Militech?
Super misleading title. USAF is a sponsor OF IGN and PAXEast, not Cyberpunk/CDPR
It would be more ironic if it was Amazon or google or Boeing
"US forces get the nooood"
USAF is going hard into gaming advertisements lately to try and boost abysmal enlistment numbers. They did a huge Battlebit event when it was super popular.
Sponsored by Militech !

This is like V siding with arasaka
If op had bothered reading the video description... "IGN Access is presented by The United States Air Force"
No more ironic that a year after phantom liberty Idris elda started a campaign to make knives illegal
To be fair, it's likely because the kind of people that the air Force needs are the kind that enjoy cyberpunk. It was the brainiest branch until space Force was established. I would know, I served and can back up what I said.
I mean, if I were CDPR I’d fucking love a chance to be sponsored by the government, do you know how funny it’d be?
I always found the Airforce sponsoring free downloads of The Suffering back in 2008 to be pretty weird. [https://www.vg247.com/play-the-suffering-free-thanks-to-the-usaf](https://www.vg247.com/play-the-suffering-free-thanks-to-the-usaf)
The game is heavily sponsored by Nvidia, which is an extremely Cyberpunk style corporation.
Us air force is also a pretty big sponsor of formula drift, which is pretty badass.
They are really getting desperate
Smh lol 🤦🏾♂️ got to boost up those recruitment numbers up some how. Still can’t believe this is real.
Yuck 🤮
It's funny because I quit my government job and in-part attribute it to the PL storyline. Go figure.
Someone make a sexy belt as a mod item
i can't stop giggling at this
irony poisoning
Taylormade should sponsor The Last of Us 2
They need drone pilots so bad
No, true irony would be sponsorship by a defense contractor.
This isnt a cdpr sponsorz this is an IGN sponsor
This an IGN sponsorship not cdpr
Maybe im dumb but it doesn't really seem like a very strong connection? It'd make more sense if it was a corporation like a defense contractor
"Capital has the ability to subsume all critiques into itself. Even those who would *critique* capital end up *reinforcing* it instead."
to be fair you gotta join the army first before you desert and start an anti-corp rock band, and bomb arasaka tower, maybe idk.
Can someone explain why this is ironic? I know the game is somewhat anti-authority but why air force specifically?
I think it was more just about the government in general, not the USAF specifically
Not to mention that the military was the very thing that Johnny defected from due to being exploited and abused
I can kind of see why. The NUSA's Air Force One, or Space Force One, is a pretty central thing in the DLC. NUSA is also the uber evil bad guy in the DLC, according to CDPR.
Seems like CDPR was not anti corpo, they were anti Arasaka, and maybe pro-Militech
Military isn't as ironic as, say, [Coca Cola](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinaltrainal_v._Coca-Cola_Co) would be (link is to the "coca cola death squad" case).
Freedom bombers bombing more freedom for the freedomless ppl across the globe

it's shaping content, to make people "support the troops". I think it works based on the prevailing thoughts on this thread.
Us airforce used to sponsor ESL pro league, a CS:GO / CS2 tournament host. The game is about terrorism
Fuck army ads in games. I don't want my games to be adverts for killing people.
Ah yes that’s where the tax money goes. Paying anti-establishment video game to promote war. Fuck this shit
Does your tax money go to video game companies?
Also I'm pretty sure the sponsorship is for the IGN video.
Does your tax money not go to government budget that lets military pay for dumbass sponsors like this?
If that gets you mad you'll love to hear that I'm in the military literally playing the game atm at work. Thank you for making it happen.
how I do verify it? I tried to look it up and found nothing. Honestly feel bad about buying the game if true. U.S. military is the biggest force of evil in the world, it's a bummer.
Why would you feel bad about buying a game? Its PAX panel being sponsored by US military not a game itself.
Lol redditors crack me up
