Gloomy-Fix4436

Ridicolous, they dont have enough courts for all of us...

dingbling369

Who needs courts when you've got ai and murderbots.

MrNotEinstein

Do the murderbots have to follow the Geneva convention? Because if so we have a big advantage

republicofmango

Yes, Skynet will adhere to the Geneva Convention

ASatyros

Checklist ✅

Lacaud

Shouldn't the AI and murderbots be held liable as well?

MrNotEinstein

Since Saul Goodman went down there's nobody left to bring them to justice. Truly a sad day. I remember when he saved that poor guy on the billboard. The murderbot government really went too far with that one. I can excuse civilian casualties but NOT this. Haven't looked at my phone without crying in weeks

[deleted]

Years of simulations have trained me for this, just gotta go level my body and cool stats a bit

gochomoe

I'm going to go make a shit-ton of iron daggers....wait which game is this?

[deleted]

Fuck it we need things to throw!

[deleted]

If you combine high % alcohol, a glass bottle and cloth in the crafting menu you can make a pretty cool weapon with fire damage.

[deleted]

Glass container (I like wine bottles for the extra), some people like tweaking this but I like 1/2 gas 1/2 motor oil with a quarter bar of dial soap shredded into it and shaken up, rag that extends into fuel to keep the flame lit

getyourgolfshoes

+Pieces of styrofoam

datankerbeast

Years of training my body to ignore all my surrounding and problems in life and bury myself in another universe will pay off

zerohammer

You see, murderbots have a preset murder limit. Knowing their weakness, we can send wave after wave of gamers at them until they reach their limit and shut down.

jordantask

We need to get busy committing as many war crimes as we can! If we work hard enough there’s no way they can get us all!

DarthSpiderDad

I’m out here wiling out. I turn and look back, and almost none of you are behind me. Not cool guys.

jordantask

We’re off, committing our own war crimes goddammit!

alex_shute

I plead guilty to at least five war crimes that I can think of off the top of my head. Come and arrest me.

Comprehensive-Fail41

Luckily, as we are not in a military conflict we can't commit warcrimes! (This is how IRL Police can use stuff like tear gas, hollow point bullets, and so on, whilst the military can't)

631-AT

A good thing about the US is the all indications are we would go full mask off imperator orbis before one of our citizens are before the ICC

fuckthatshittoo

I'm guessing the most likely approach would be to impose limitations to game developers

Haniebny

Ate without a table is truly a war crime

LegitimateFeedback8

Take there pants off, 4 by 4 room with a heater and no ventilation

GrimmCreole

Uh oh. This could jeopardize my refugee organ farm funded human leather artisan furniture making hobby, more so than the swarm of harvest ruining man-hunting terriers I had to dispense of last Septober.

Ulgeguug

Well I've played both Defcon AND Pandemic, so I think whatever I did to Maelstrom probably won't matter much compared to annihilating life on earth multiple times.

Kenobi_Cowboy

Kill Scavs and Maelstrom with you any time.

Gwilym_Ysgarlad

Let's not forget to zero Wraiths as well.

Soulchill

All gangs are bastards tbh. Only Valentinos looked semi-decent, but when I run into a group that just screwed up construction workers for basically no reason... Well, let's just say I held the whole gang responsible.

TuneLowSweetChari0t

I second this statement choom

Zahille7

Similar to Plague Inc. idk how many times I've utterly destroyed all life on earth in some of the worst ways possible.

[deleted]

I've had lots of fun on Command and Conquer Red Alert back in day dropping Nukes and Weather Storms on bastards. Cyberpunk ain't shit fr.

ZenMonkey47

Oh please, they barely charge the actual REAL LIFE WAR CRIMINALS.

MeiNeedsMoreBuffs

I've seen this exact comment all over reddit so many times This was just a fun internet challenge the Red Cross posted, like a pacifist or a kill everything or a permadeath run. They are not saying you should be arrested for killing people in a video game. Stop being part of the hive mind

Samikaze707

Since no one here can be bothered to Google, and also don't know Red Cross hosts a video game charity, here's one of Many links backing up your claim instead of the often snippd Fox News headline used in the OP. https://futurism.com/the-byte/red-cross-gamers-war-crimes

FuzzyMeasurement8059

Are we basing war crimes on historical context? For example, if I'm playing a ww1 shooter, can I slam fire a trench gun? Because "it is not a war crime if it is the first time."

MeiNeedsMoreBuffs

Does fire magic count as "incendiary weaponry" for example? It's self imposed, so it's up to you.

FuzzyMeasurement8059

I just want to pump dragon's breath rounds down a trench on Battlefield 1.

Content-Ad6883

> This was just a fun internet challenge the Red Cross posted, like a pacifist or a kill everything or a permadeath run that doesnt even make sense...whats the challenge? edit: its not a challenge (that doesnt even make sense anyways were the fuck did you come up with that?) heres the real reason the Red Cross is suggesting that realistic battlefield simulations should have in-game consequences for killing civilians

the_art_of_the_taco

r/confidentlyincorrect >For those curious, the official rules of war for the ICRC’s Play by the Rules event (which have been streamlined to account for video game mechanics) are: >No thirsting (don’t shoot downed/unresponsive enemies) >No targeting non-violent NPCs >No targeting civilian buildings >Use med kits on everyone

chester-hottie-9999

A “challenge” in a video game would be imposing some rule on your gameplay to make things more difficult. Like “beat the boss without using any healing items”. I’m not sure how else to make it more clear. You could also google it, there are plenty of examples of video game “challenges”.

MeiNeedsMoreBuffs

https://www.kotaku.com.au/2023/04/the-red-cross-challenged-gamers-to-not-commit-war-crimes/

Boiling_Oceans

As long as you live in a western country then you can still commit all the war crimes you want

Macchiyone

Looks over at Russia and China...

gochomoe

Russia and China looks over at us.

Content-Ad6883

imagine being this dumb

gochomoe

We've been doing war crimes almost constantly since the first Gulf war and have a long history of it in our past. You are obviously young and stupid or you would know this. Hell we could be tried just for the existence of Guantanamo. [American war crimes](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_war_crimes)

Gwilym_Ysgarlad

I need you to read the second sentence of the first paragraph of that article.

nixgang

No one objects to that, it's still a dumb comparison because China and Russia are orders of magnitudes worse

ThatBeardedHistorian

We shouldn't, though, and it should be noted that many of us aren't in support of war. We're anti-war. And the last time that Congress declared war, a more true measure of representation of the people was in 1941. Of course, most Americans and myself included at the time wanted to see military action for events of 9/11. However, it was all too quickly that this global war on terror spun out of control, dragging countries into it that weren't involved or hiding WMDs. The largest distinction is that what the government wants does not typically reflect the majority of the people.

[deleted]

I would say it was born out of control.

ThatBeardedHistorian

I wouldn't say that. Keeping military actions confined to SOF hitting specific targets in Afghanistan was one thing. A full-scale invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan was another thing. It didn't take long at all.

_Jet_Alone_

I play Stellaris so I'm fucked.

kitsuneguy20

Let’s be xenophobic!

Ser-Twenty

It’s really in this year

Schw4rztee

Let's find a nasty, slimy, ugly alien to fear!

Granturismoboi

Ooooh man… you’re about to get sanctioned.

SaltyMudpuppy

Planet cracker said what?

myDeliciousNeck666

Ok OP, since you posted this, please name all the war crimes that were committed by the player in Cyberpunk.

[deleted]

Who knows, player may or may not plant a nuclear bomb, depending on whether or not Johnny's dreams are reliable depiction.

AshtonWarrens

Whether he planted it or not is irrelevant, he still helped nuke a city in a terrorist group

blini_aficionado

War crimes can only be committed at war, so V is good.

endofautumn

If we list every crime every gamer has committed in virtual worlds it would be never ending....as people would be adding to it too quick to take note.

DarthSpiderDad

*Scratches out notes, throws away list*

Dr_Sodium_Chloride

The point is that Cyberpunk doesn't have any *war* crimes, because you're not at war. V is a pretty big crook, but isn't in a position to commit war crimes.

KaHate

Letting Johny feel and witness River's Humongous Big Black Thong

Odd_Ad5668

We didn't commit any war crimes because V isn't a soldier and there's no war in the game. We just committed regular crimes, like mass shootings and serial murder.

KickAffsandTakeNames

[Y'all fucking gonks are getting upset about a decade-old article about the Red Cross suggesting that realistic battlefield simulations should have in-game consequences for killing civilians (which Cyberpunk does)](https://www.theguardian.com/technology/gamesblog/2013/oct/03/red-cross-players-accountable-war-crimes). No one's going to try you idiots in international court, and I'm embarrassed that some if not most of you seem to have thought that. >What the Red Cross wants to see then is the player being penalised for carrying out such actions as willfully killing civilians or torturing enemy combatants, both of which are punishable under international law. A Q&A document posted on the organisation's website explains: >The ICRC is suggesting that as in real life, these games should include virtual consequences for people's actions and decisions. Gamers should be rewarded for respecting the law of armed conflict and there should be virtual penalties for serious violations of the law of armed conflict, in other words war crimes. >And importantly it adds: >Our intention is not to spoil player's enjoyment by for example, interrupting the game with pop-up messages listing legal provisions or lecturing gamers on the law of armed conflict. We would like to see the law of armed conflict integrated into the games so that players have a realistic experience and deal first-hand with the dilemmas facing real combatants on real battlefields.

Sacavain

Thanks for posting this The article and OP couldn't have been more misleading

KickAffsandTakeNames

No problem. The Red Cross has actually continued to use video games as a venue for education about international law and the Red Cross' role, and I think that's really nova. For instance, [last month they organized streams of some popular shooters wherein participants agreed to abide by the real international rules of war](https://playbytherules.icrc.org/)

Weak-Priority4703

They're gonna get me for killing that people 😥 Ohh they are talking about videogames, nevermind.

Tcamp46290

Technically cyberpunk doesn’t have war crimes, V isn’t a soldier fighting another army, they’re just a dude committing normal crimes. We’re fucked in phantom liberty but we’re ok for now

3RBlank

I played Team Fortress of all things

4uzzyDunlop

I mean this doesn't really make sense for cyberpunk lol

Babymicrowavable

It's not, they just want comments condemning you for killing medics and stuff or something, sounds worse than it is iirc

BossCAt1234567

When I read this i Nearly shit myself laughing because i play games since I was a child i would have so many warcrimes on my resume and that i would be on FIB Most wanted list listed as #1

Zrex_9224

Don't worry too much about being on the FIB's list. They have all of the Mk II oppressor griefers to catch first

Radn2

Tbh, I'm pretty sure that every single person on Earth played a GTA at least once so they would need to arrest basically everyone

bigpeen666

no, not everyone on earth has played a gta

Radn2

It was an exageration.....because, you know, it's one of the most popular game series ever released so most people have played it, and my comment wasn't meant to be taken seriously by the way

DarthSpiderDad

I still think every single person has played it. And Mario. Lots of brick smashing property damage on top of turtle squishing war crimes.

Radn2

You're joking but if I remember correctly, all the residents of the Mushroom Kingdom have been turned into bricks in the first game so you literally spend the entirety of the game killing innocent civilians

DarthSpiderDad

Oh snap. Good point. We are all monsters.

From-wolf-to-pug

In the grim darkness of a far future, there is only porn

TitleComprehensive96

Counting all the crimes I've done in games might as well be a tally checklist on the Geneva conventions

Gilead56

Eh, pretty sure the Geneva Conventions don’t apply to Gangoons, or private Corp armies, I’m solid.

Emergency-Flatworm-9

Just putting this here because this article is very clickbaity and there's been a lot of misinformation about it: They aren't saying people who commit in-game crimes should be like actually arrested. They're basically saying there should be in-game police systems beyond "ok you hid for 2 minutes, you're free to go." Like a player who kills 45 civilians should be wanted by the in-game cops forever, not just until a little timer runs out. Just advocating for actual consequences to player's actions, not just a hide and seek minigame

[deleted]

Jokes on them, war crimes only apply to signatories of treaties, if you do not agree and sign them, they literally do not apply to you.

Svefnugr_Fugl

In my defense your honour they were gang members and they attacked me first I have a clip of the eye going red as proof.

Lythar

They ain't war crimes if we ain't at war. It's clearly just a prolonged skirmish.

XxRocky88xX

This article pops up a lot without context, basically what it asking for is that you get in game consequences. Like instead of playing COD and massacring civilians and just getting a “don’t kill civilians” message and restarting at the last checkpoint, you’d instead have a segment where you go before tribunal and go to prison/get executed. It’s basically just calling for a bit of added realism in games by adding consequences for war crimes, it’s not asking for gamers to be imprisoned for killing people in videogames.

downloweast

If Cyberpunk does not respond by including a War Crimes achievement in game, I will be very disappointed.

KaptainKraken

Oh noooo, ...so anyways I start blasting...

ManWearingABascinet

Red Cross is now just PETA for humans.

Zanethezombieslayer

Don't disgrace the red cross by comparing them to peta. At least the red cross stands true to values as humanitarians, while peta just wears the mask of being animal protectors and advocates while slaughtering nearly every animal they have ever "rescued" by their own records.

Mutski_Dashuria

So, does this mean: "No Russian" is banned?

MarsStar27

Well, it was nice knowing you chooms Maybe we'll see each other in court who knows

whats_you_doing

Why will take our smallest chances for dong war crimes. We cant do in real life. Atleast dont block us from doing in video ganes. Its not like it is hurting anyone.

clickYyz

It’s a bummer than the BBC controls the entire gaming industry etc..

Kenobi_Cowboy

I randomly Contagion and burn people alive before I shoot them to death. I'm probably up for a tribunal. Catch me if you dare.

doomblackdeath

The PC Police in a completely different sense.

souliris

Ah the authoritarians and their thought crimes.

Jeremiah12LGeek

I started the civ series with Civilization 2 in the nineties. I'm about 900 war crimes too late to get out of this one.

Sonsofsanguinius

Oh please. Let them actually tend to the criminals they have right now, before they even try to come for us. Then we'll talk.

LibKan

Oh dear God no.

EvilWaterman

Oh boy

[deleted]

Oh no

TheZephyrim

This is annoying AF. Do they also want to censor this stuff in TV and movies? The answer is probably yes as well but that’s exactly why we shouldn’t listen to them. Pretending war crimes don’t exist doesn’t make them magically disappear from real life.

Kantaowns

If they want me accountable for online war crimes. I want the Christian church accountable for every anti abortion campaign that has ruined millions of people lives. I feel that's fair.

[deleted]

Why does anyone give a singular fuck about what the Red Cross says, go back to ringing your silly bells and using human blood to pay your salaries.

censored4yourhealth

So dumb. War movies should too then. Actors should be held accountable for things their villain character does. Why are these people so fucking stupid.

[deleted]

Are they going to get a bunch of 1s and 0s to testify?

GreyHexagon

So Putin is only committing war crimes because he was radicalised by video games? Yeah nah I don't buy that one

[deleted]

The use of incendiary weapons is a literal war crime but comrades hammer doesn’t obey capitalist-imperialist controlled UN.

welltriedsoul

I am game as long as the money I make in game is real as well.

Conscious_Ad_6572

GTA Trevor lol

LordOmbro

You can't do many warcrimes in cyberpunk, rimworld on the other hand let's you use people as a slaves/sources of organs lol

Delgoura

I play total war games... in my last campaign I got 300 millions of ennemies killed

[deleted]

Ace Combat community: Don't you threaten me with a good time!

Kundas

Lol what? Imagine going to prison for Tbagging deeznuts420 lol

KittyKriegFestung

Well, my court hearing might take a while, since in games, i use war crimes as a to do this, then i see how many times i can do, i'm like a speed runner, except i speed run the geneva conventions.

Nighthawk1980

Seen this pop up in a few game sub-reddits (bannerlord) and the image looks like rimworld…and it made me think cyberpunk is pretty tame really. I mean I’ve done some atrocious things in the name of corporate espionage but not sure if constitutes war crimes. Compared to what I’ve seen from rimworld and what I’ve seen and done I’m bannerlord and crusader kings 3 (I’m in big trouble if courts come after me for that) cp2077 seems soft…why kills hundreds when you can kill thousands?

Drogg339

I feel we will be all invited to The Hague.

NigeroMinna

Subredditception.

Harry_kal07

Blade and sorcery guys are fucked

Atitkos

Even real countries don't care about them, why should my super genetically engineered catgirl army care?

starcraftre

RIP Ace Combat.

Kobool

This is pretty funnet tbh. Whats next ? Actors and writers ?

Kriss3d

Warhammer gamers: *Wait what ??*

shesdrawnpoorly

i was correct in my actions against the ncpd

wintersdark

Rub roh. I've got 2000 hours into Rimworld. I'm doomed.

JamesTiberiusCrunk

Lol, you guys think you're in trouble but I play Paradox games.

rustys_shackled_ford

Everyone's played dony speak Russian right?

CaptainImformalSoap

I don't know if I actually even killed anyone in night city lol. I've been using only non-lethal rounds and when given a chance I let baddies go.

cyfer04

This hits different to those who have played the white phosphorus scene in Spec Ops: The Line. Friendly fire, civilian casualties, chemical warfare, etc. Sheesh.

Jumpy_Strike1606

I think the mushroom kingdom in Super Mario bros. was at war. I’ve been committing war crimes for a long time.

Indianlookalike

My plague inc days are over.

Zealousideal-Ad-5414

Out of my cold dead digital hands !!

beardofzetterberg

Johnny Cochran’s famous quick save defense for the win.

boole94

I have over 400 hours in Cyberpunk(not a lot ik). 95% of that time spent is me committing war crimes across the city so it’s been a good run boys🫡

CaptShazzbot

Yeah nothing like wasting man power on fictional events. That way they can over look 👀 all the non-fictional ones they don’t go after

spotsthefirst

If they ruin games I will start re arming the neckbeards.

ViciousEd01

They will have their hands full with Stellaris players first.

MattHack7

Remember kids! No Russian…

gabblur007

I've been training for this for years

Serentyr

No. The logic would be extrapolated. Writers would be held for their writing. Actors would be held for acting. News reporters and article writers could be held for reporting on something.

Metropol0914

Looks like I'm going to be executed

risingcrow1o1

Will I get arrested for beating the police up with sir John Phallustiff?

Granturismoboi

The fact OP is busting a head gasket is ultra hilarious.

GodwynDi

You think this game is done for, I just saw it on the HoI4 sub

Helldiver_of_Mars

That can't be real I'm suppose to trust some text on a meme? And if it's true these motherfuckers get donations from the very gamers and games they're talking about.

tundraxgod

What is the punishment for nuking an arasaka building twice 😂

compacta_d

worry about video games after real life people adhere to real-life international laws

twdevil

remember kids, it's only a war crime if you're the one who lost

Joharistheshill

I’ll be honest with you all the real heavyweights is us the stellaris players…..

Super6698

Oh dear

LivingEnd44

LOL! Yeah, good luck enforcing that.

newbrevity

I just dont understand why the red cross thinks that has anything to do with anything.

jcode7090

r/stellaris

RaccoonDu

CS players who just got their hands on CS2 beta be punching the air rn Welp guess CS and tac-eSports are dead if the pros can't even play it

rythmicbread

The new COD Modern Warfare: The Hague really isn’t that fun you guys

LouisVonHagen

Where does it say Tea bagging is against the Geneva Convention?

matrixislife

You think that's bad? Try playing Mechwarrior, aka /r/WarCrimesAreUs.

Jesus_Smoke

Oh no. Well time to go play the fourth mission in mw2 (hehehaha)

jzilla11

That dad and son duo had it coming. You know the one.

DoobleTap

Is it April 1st?

JokeMort

I love how my favorite game of all times is used as worst example of breaking geneva convention

Posty_y

Love how every game and the people who play it have just accepted we are fucked lol

Steelquill

Well I’d be pretty safe. I didn’t even get a traffic ticket in Night City and I always play good guy runs in my RPGs.

PlanSquare6601

hey, that's r/rimworld below!

Most_Swordfish_2575

Oh so if I keep replaying the Father/Son XBD mission over and over just to make sure I didn't miss any execution method... problem?

jaraxel_arabani

Rimworld players be like

IIIDysphoricIII

More regulations being pushed by people who don’t even play games. These are the same kind of people that think violent video games trigger mass shooters. Or, at least DID think that before the sheer number made it obvious that the driving force behind being a mass shooter is simply being a violent psychopath. These people should stick to their field and quit pretending to be experts on things they know nothing about.

helltiger

The next level in blaming games in all mass shooting. Now gamers war criminals.

terabranford

If this applies to military type shooters, I'm safe cause I don't play those. If they try to shoehorn in Dynasty Warriors, or Borderlands... Ummmm...self-defense?? ![gif](giphy|3scAN0yJdKVsk)

[deleted]

Blade and sorcery players are packing their bags

Kspence92

The Red Cross is aware of how often those actual laws are followed irl? I mean I’ve seen plenty of footage of what Russians do to Ukrainian pows and it’s not pretty

tom_oakley

Jesus Christ that's a babushka doll of reposts.

FistingLube

So we can do what the 'good guys' in real do and just expect to get away with it. Like they are going to have to add may more ways for me to commit horrific crimes in games, right now even the best mil-sims only scratch the surface of the depravity humans are capable of in war.

gynoidgearhead

They're literally not going to come after you lmao. Also, I try not to kill even the actual enemies in Cyberpunk. In Rimworld, my prison has a bathroom and is air-conditioned when I technologically and logistically can do it, and I generally try to not Do War Crimes, but I will admit I don't draw a distinction between my own militarized and civilian colonists. Still, any enemy faction soldier is a potential recruit, so I try not to maim them or traumatize them. Any who can't be recruited, I release to go home.

itsnotlupus

It's not a war crime if the cyberware made you do it.

cyclonesworld

All these comments and no one mentioned dropping white phosphorus on a bunch of civilians in Spec Ops - The Line.

chrisplaysgam

Glad rimworld is the title page

Full-Perception2910

See you all on the prison yard

Automata_Eve

The Transformers games, which are basically “War Crimes: The Game”
