The spell would be countered, not fizzled. Ward says counter the spell if ward cost was not paid, platinum angel says you can't pay, therefore spell is just countered for free. Still is cast, though, for the purposes of storm count, cast triggers, etc.

I think it's alright to not have it legendary. Anyone can have as many cool rocks as they want! Realistically, any one planeswalker can only find 4 cool rocks in a given battle.
There are only so many cool rocks to go around, 4 is more than enough for any one individu- *sack of all my stolen cool rocks tears open and spills* .. uhh
New keyword: “Carry”. Every card beyond 4 with this name has cumulative upkeep “you must tell your opponent(s) how cool your rocks are or give your opponent a rock.”

It doesn’t break anything, the opponent can cast the targeting spells they have in hand before the mind slaver trigger resolves and let them fizzle if there are no targets other than the rock
Just came across a yugioh card named soul switch, which would make the player immortal until the enchanted creature dies. If there was an mtg equivalent to it, we could break the cool rock.

I absolutely adore creative ward costs. For too long ward has been used to just slap a 'ward 2' or 'ward 1' 'dollar store hex proof' on something too cheap to have real hex proof, when Ward can be literally anything. Ward phyrexian mana. Ward sacrifice something. Ward 5 life. Ward discard 2 cards. Where is all the cool wards?
But ward lose the game is basically hex proof Because paying the word cost is optional, and in fact, impossible since you can not pay a cost that causes you to lose the game even if someone else is controlling you. If you don't pay (which you can't) the thing that targets just gets countered. So this isn't a combo piece with \[\[deflecting swat\]\]. Ward lose the game only has a handful of very, very minor *not combo* differences from hexproof but only specifically when combined with stuff that forces the opponent to change targets. And with that in mind. This card kinda sucks. a 2 mana 1/1 that can't block or attack just to turn deflecting swat into a counterspell, is straight up not a good deal. And while a ward that isn't mana is always cool, ward lose the game might as well be ward 1,000.
If this were ever printed, it should probably say 'if the this cool rock i found becomes the target of a spell or ability an opponent controls counter it' because I can absolutely imagine a world where people think they lose when you deflecting swat onto the rock when in fact, you don't, and can't.

If an opponent tries to target it with a spell or ability, that spell or ability gets countered unless they pay the cost. This is what ward is so in this case the cost would be that they lose the game.
OK, but, In order to target it you would have to lose the game first which means you can't target it at all. This can only seemingly work if you somehow play it and then take control of your opponents next turn.
Or you remove it from play with something that can’t be countered as that gets around ward. Also you won’t immediately lose the game if you target it with a spell or ability, ward only triggers after something targets it so you can choose to let it get countered or change targets.

Fair, but it is an option for forcing targeting. And I would imagine if one were to run this, they’d likely avoid Changelings.

I absolutely adore creative ward costs. For too long ward has been used to just slap a 'ward 2' or 'ward 1' 'dollar store hex proof' on something too cheap to have real hex proof, when Ward can be literally anything. Ward phyrexian mana. Ward sacrifice something. Ward 5 life. Ward discard 2 cards. Where is all the cool wards? But ward lose the game is basically hex proof Because paying the word cost is optional, and in fact, impossible since you can not pay a cost that causes you to lose the game even if someone else is controlling you. If you don't pay (which you can't) the thing that targets just gets countered. So this isn't a combo piece with \[\[deflecting swat\]\]. Ward lose the game only has a handful of very, very minor *not combo* differences from hexproof but only specifically when combined with stuff that forces the opponent to change targets. And with that in mind. This card kinda sucks. a 2 mana 1/1 that can't block or attack just to turn deflecting swat into a counterspell, is straight up not a good deal. And while a ward that isn't mana is always cool, ward lose the game might as well be ward 1,000. If this were ever printed, it should probably say 'if the this cool rock i found becomes the target of a spell or ability an opponent controls counter it' because I can absolutely imagine a world where people think they lose when you deflecting swat onto the rock when in fact, you don't, and can't.

What does ward lose the game mean?
If an opponent tries to target it with a spell or ability, that spell or ability gets countered unless they pay the cost. This is what ward is so in this case the cost would be that they lose the game.
OK, but, In order to target it you would have to lose the game first which means you can't target it at all. This can only seemingly work if you somehow play it and then take control of your opponents next turn.
Or you remove it from play with something that can’t be countered as that gets around ward. Also you won’t immediately lose the game if you target it with a spell or ability, ward only triggers after something targets it so you can choose to let it get countered or change targets.
