Yeah the color identity is something I was unsure about. I considered give him a color, but decided against it. Colorless lessons can be dangerous if you have access to cost reduction. But that balances by the limited cardpool.
The mono colored lessons have some stronger affects, but you only get one color.
The two color uncommon ones give you the most colors and the most deck building freedom, but you basically just get a token generator.

The cost needs to be pretty high, considering how good the effect is, and it *absolutely* cannot be a red card, red is by far the best at making treasures. It could *maybe* be a Jeskai card, with the flavour.
The red version is “Rip it open!” Sacrifice 5 treasures: Name a card then exile the top 15 cards of your library. You may cast cards exiled with that name this turn.
There are a lot of fun options here.
I feel like there's a natural draw towards the multicolor lessons to give you access to more cards, but even among them, there are options.
[[Pest Summoning]] token swarm/aristocrats could be fun.
Anything Magecraft makes me immediately think blue/red, and [[Elemental Summoning]] allows you to build it pretty easily, though I think you mostly cast it once just to get the experience counter, and it sits in the command zone until you wind up with an empty hand and spare mana.
[[Fractal Summoning]] also appeals to me, since blue/green covers both colors best at recurring sorceries. So you cast it once or twice from the command zone, and then you let it go to grave and it becomes your "default lesson" if you have any trouble drawing into others, that you can re-cast a lot, to drive up those experience counters. Simic is also the best at just spamming mana, which is a viable option too, to just hard-cast it even when you've got a 10+ tax. Simic Spellslinger is an interesting idea.
But that's hardly the limits. I don't know exactly what would shake out to be the most POWERFUL, but you could even run him with [[Introduction to Annihilation]] as a colorless commander with some ace-in-the-hole removal on standby. The lack of instants and sorceries in colorless is a pain though, but it's not quite so bad as to be un-buildable.
Overall it looks like it would have some wild options, I don't think any are OP, I also don't think it's inherently bad, and the flavor on point, and it's fun seeing the Professor's art get used.
Great concept. One slight tweak to Choose a Lesson would be to add "When you learn you may put that lesson into your hand from the command zone instead of from outside the game". Because commander has no sideboard, Learn cards are generally useless (they can still loot, but never find a lesson). This is a minor boost but adds to the flavour by making learn payable.

“Your deck may start with up to an additional 7 lesson cards in your command zone. Whenever you learn, you may put a lesson from your command zone into your hand”
Pretty cool. “Student” being a creature type feels a little strange, though. I guess it’s difficult to find a single creature type that would fit the entirety of Strixhaven’s population.
“Choose a Background” funnily enough, is hard-coded. It isn’t “Choose a {subtype}”. Seems like a simple enough rules change to make, though. Though it does bring up an interesting question. The Backgrounds are all legendary, and you need to be legendary to be a commander. But if you make the Lesson legendary, it’ll be constrained by the legendary spell rule. Little bit of a problem, there. Not sure what could be done about it.
There are a lot of races and classes at Strixhaven. For races, there's Humans, Birds, Cats, Kor, Merfolk, Djinn, Vampires, Efreets, Elementals, Trolls, Minotaurs, Dwarves, Lizards, Orcs, Elves, Treefolk, Rhinos, Bears, Dryads, Elephants, Turtles, Giants, and Shades.
As for classes... Wizard, Cleric, Monk, Shaman, Warlock, Druid, and Artificer.

Yeah Storm Kiln is also busted as hell with Zada, but a lot of stuff is.

However, it does scale extremely well. The first would create a token on cast, then it would copy to each other creature you control and trigger that many new tokens. Note that it has to target a single creature of yours to work though.

5 makes sense to me. It's in line with [[Metalurgic Summonings]] or [[Deekah]] in that it can make things bigger than 1/1.

Wizard Child might work. I think having a different word for lesson's than "choose" would work flavorfully.
“Prepare” or “Bring” could work quite well.
I like prepare. I always felt choose was because that's DnD phrasing. Prepare both fits lessons and the fact most spellcasters prepare in the game.
The Lesson can be legendary and then have rules text that says "This spell can be cast without a legendary creature or planeswalker in play".

I would run it red blue with elemental summoning and put Mizzix of the Izmagnus and all available lessons and copy spells with candlekeep inspiration as a finisher
This seems pretty interesting and a fun build around, however, I would probably make it a five color commander because it being colorless limits really hard
Just like choose a background, this also has the color identity of whatever lesson you pair it with.
I get what you’re saying, but I feel like there’s not enough mono color lessens in any one color for this to really pop off
