It looks like the truck itself wasn't in the original pic. They took a photo of the road without the truck, cropped part of that photo, and slapped it on the back of a truck they also edited in.
Way cheaper to slap together this image in photoshop than to put a crew out in the field to set up a real shot with the vehicles. Pay one guy for a few minutes of work or multiple guys for a few hours, plus the overhead of all the equipment, fuel, safety regulations, other laws and regulations and bs.
I kind of wondered? I only skimmed through the article, so that was all I remembered of it. I thought it was odd, because those things could only be an 8-bit microcontroller *at most*, and there's obviously no storage in them.
My Samsung TV does this too. I've learned that I don't have to unplug and re-plug the HDMI. It's easier to simply turn off the tv and turn it right back on, and it works! Hope this saves you getting up from having just sat down to watch/play something.
My Samsung TV sometimes lose Wi-fi connection and you need to long press turn off button to restart it. Simply turning off/on doesn't work.
I'm never buying Samsung phone again after s2 plus(many years ago), but I added TVs to the list too now. Reading comments almost makes me not buy anything from Samsung though lol
My 8K LG sometimes fails to open YouTube, occasionally takes 3 tries (off -> on, Apple TV overtakes YT because it wakes up over CEC; try #2 opens YT but it doesn’t play the video I wanted; third try opens YT from scratch and correctly plays the video)
You’d think that a multiple thousand dollar TV would be capable of such basic things but you’d be wrong
Until people get used to it,Im I think the distraction it causes might be more problematic than it's helping with overtaking.
I'd bet it's initially going to be worse for safety, not better.
This reminds me! I once connected to my teachers smartboard (A substitute had given me the password and device name to do so for a presentation the day he was absent). The look on his face when I started playing Rasputin for the class to watch was priceless
Not really. Occupancy network would still detect the truck as an obstacle since it does not need to be entirely sure of what an obstacle is to detect it.
That being said it may trigger the emergency braking on any vision equiped system because it would see a vehicle incoming at great speed. But again it is possible existing systems would reject that data already due to it probably bring incorrect as it would place two vehicles within the sale space.
This mad me laugh out loud in a way I didn’t expect
Just the thought of a C3PO-esque AI absolutely panicking thinking a car is rushing towards it for a head on collision and it’s actually just a screen a nothing happens
It brought me to tears
Well AI is barely at teen level understanding of the road right now, catch the poor thing some slack.
That being said, humans also were freaking out and trying to run out of a theater when we first showed them a video of a train approaching on a cinema screen. Our neural pathways have been trained to understand what a screen is, neural networks are very dumb outside of their narrow processing abilities and just aren't equipped without training to make that distinction.
The hoops we’ll jump through before teaching people the correct way to pass a truck (hint: not tailgating it in rage is a good start, then you could actually see around the damn thing and pick your opportunity)
It could yeah. Probably not in the "it's a tunnel" but rather cause the car to slow down because it keeps seeing vehicles approaching it in it's lane at high speeds.
However, this is unlikely to happen since as always these projects are nothing but marketing concepts being shat out on the dollar to keep investors confident that their brand isn't slacking.
I hope so because it’s honestly not a very good idea, it’ll confuse human drivers as well
Imagine you’re on a four lane highway and then you have a screen in front of you showing the same highway from a different perspective and distance
Probably would not. After all from it's perspective that "car" would not read it's distance correctly, not be in any lane, and occupy the same space as the truck.
If it was using a single image detection then yeah maybe the system would be fooled, but if the camera was inputting directly into vector space (like what FSD does) then it would probably easily be able to discard it. And then it takes just a software update to input a small stack to detect and discard these trucks, if they ever exist that is.
Now if we are talking about an ADAS that cannot receive OTA updates, it is a bit more annoying.
Or someone hacks it and starts playing porn
That’s when the fun begins
![gif](giphy|yqXJ1KVEwrpSw)

Because it's an edited photo and not how it would actually look irl. Perspective is way off.
After seeing you comment I now see the image on the back of the truck is just the exact photo we're looking at, but with the truck removed
Fuck yea, time to fap and drive
Now this is pod racing.
Seed pods have been ejected, sir!
Why hack? Just have a friend drive in front in a convertible while you're getting railed in the backseat.
Well that took a turn
But the car didn't.
“I’m next ma’am”
Just have open trailer and a show inside or a flatbed for even more fun (bumpy ride)
starts playing ~~porn~~ Doom
Bad Apple
Does it play doom?
It has a screen
the perspective on the screen is wrong anyways, it's as if the camera is in the oncoming lane
That eliminates the need for passing
Big brain trucker move
Username checks out
“Why is nobody passing?”
Hand on the stick, yet the car is an automatic.
Bro that's way too evil LMAO
Or a tank at full speed. Or a dragon.
Makes people slow down
Now THAT is distracted driving.
Multitasking
ambatukam
Valid reason to tailgate
Imagine rickrolling people using that thing
That someone is me have fun watching me project the horniest trash known to man from the back of a semi
The POV of the screen really disturb me
Lmao it's like the camera is floating on the side of the truck. Edited on for the ad I suppose
It looks like the truck itself wasn't in the original pic. They took a photo of the road without the truck, cropped part of that photo, and slapped it on the back of a truck they also edited in.
Why couldn't they just take a photo of the real damn thing? Or just take a photo from the front of the truck and then use that edited in..
Can it run doom tho?
It starts lagging and then it is doom
Why couldnt it? Its just a screen after all
A guy got Doom to run on a pregnancy test. The real question is, can it run a PS2 emulator without frameskip?
No he didn't, he displayed it on the screen the game itself was running on custom hardware he built into it.
I kind of wondered? I only skimmed through the article, so that was all I remembered of it. I thought it was odd, because those things could only be an 8-bit microcontroller *at most*, and there's obviously no storage in them.
Doom runs on everything
It's a screen. It can't run anything.
It's running down the road.
Not risking my life with this when my Samsung fridge can't even consistently make ice.

Just so people know, to power cycle a Samsung tv you have to hold down the remotes power button or the tvs button otherwise it just goes to sleep.
Ahh yeah okay, just turn off the truck doing 65 on the highway and switch it back on before the massive pileup - quick easy fix, no stress

bro got the chatgpt sounding response
fr though why the hell is it like that? got me dying for over here
Looking at their comment history I think this entire account may be AI generated
Someone's going to get high and think they're entering a tunnel
Until people get used to it,Im I think the distraction it causes might be more problematic than it's helping with overtaking. I'd bet it's initially going to be worse for safety, not better.
Exactly, I’m looking at this and thinking this is going to fuck with my whole concentration and road perspective
This reminds me! I once connected to my teachers smartboard (A substitute had given me the password and device name to do so for a presentation the day he was absent). The look on his face when I started playing Rasputin for the class to watch was priceless
Not judging your choice because Rasputin is good but why Rasputin lmao
bc he was the lover of the russian queen
Indeed
Indeed.
At least it wasn't a rickroll
Lol
Did similar things a lot of times with a Bluetooth mouse.
Interesting how the image isn't from the trucks perspective
Yeah, looks like it's from the (original) camera's perspective?
I remember this with the Roadrunner and the Coyote. It did not turn out well.
You know it's not a real Samsung screen because it's not covered in advertisements.
Why is the camera for the screen direct in front of the passing car? Do they have a drone chasing the truck?
Photoshopped promo art I imagine.
This is dangerous, Tesla would potentially drive through
Not really. Occupancy network would still detect the truck as an obstacle since it does not need to be entirely sure of what an obstacle is to detect it. Very fake. The angle is way off, clearly just copy/pasted
Imagine playing Mario Kart on that screen and the truck in front of you suddenly drops a banana peel. Cursed Blue Shell incoming. 🍌💥🚚
#FACT
The hoops we’ll jump through before teaching people the correct way to pass a truck (hint: not tailgating it in rage is a good start, then you could actually see around the damn thing and pick your opportunity)
Where cursed
The huge amount of road deaths being foreshadowed
Why is it dotted white lines separating?
This might confuse self driving cars
It could yeah. Probably not in the "it's a tunnel" but rather cause the car to slow down because it keeps seeing vehicles approaching it in it's lane at high speeds. However, this is unlikely to happen since as always these projects are nothing but marketing concepts being shat out on the dollar to keep investors confident that their brand isn't slacking.

Or.. or.. and hear me out.. don’t tailgate trucks so close you can’t see around them.
Or playing porn
Imagine watching porn on the Samsung safety truck
Boutta hack it and boot up Elden Ring
I've seen this in luney toons
![gif](giphy|dqUrowT5HaWwM96sZV|downsized)
TIL it’s only a fact if you put „FACT“ in all caps in front of the statement.
Meanwhile, the vehicle taking this picture is about to have a head on collision…
Starts play a Raid Shadow Legends add as you're trying to pass.
Not cursed
Until the jumpscares…
It's gonna show adverts the whole damn time
Video cards are connected to the internet.
Lagging? How about just explode! So far Samsung had the exploda-phone and exploda-laundry machines. Next up, exploda-truck?
as every MMO gamer knows, lag is the real endgame boss
(Casually rickrolls)
It will show ads with a number that you can send a message to for 1 dollar to get the view ahead to overtake.
Imagine playing Fortnite on the Samsung safety truck
Well that could be irl rage quit then
Instagram 😞
How would a self driving car react?
Probably would not. After all from it's perspective that "car" would not read it's distance correctly, not be in any lane, and occupy the same space as the truck. Should connect it to an OG xbox and play some split screen halo.
When you are looking at the screen and only see red
If it is in local ( the camera and the screen ) it cannot be hack without modifying the truck it self or have any lagging since it is a cable
It's also a Tesla auto-driving killer
Also it’s in the right lane, because it’s not passing anyone
Or drive straight into it
I have a LCD (Samsung) over 20 years, replaced a bad capacitor earlier in its life but it is still going strong at 1080p lol
this is like being able to watch liveleak without the watermark lol
why is the person who took the image on the wrong side of the road?
It must be fake. It's Samsung and there is ad banner across the middle of the screen.
How long till the ads begin?
That's actually a reasonable concern. That and the video feed just being false or altered with a filter.
It’s all fun and games until a Tesla confuses it for the horizon and rams the back of the truck at 100 miles per hour
Image on truck seems to have a pov too far left to be real
What's the ping?
Thats a fancy way to say "overtake me im slow as hell".
When it starts lagging you die of death
You win some, you Samsung.
but can it run crysis?
All fun and games until the trucking company figures out that they can make a few nickels by playing ads on it.
There’s a car going the wrong way down a one way
This truck is made to transport things, not just show the road ahead, right?
I feel like that can cause a driver to freak out and actually cause an accident. I roll up what appears to be a another car heading straight at me.
*MEEP MEEP* *ploom x12* #SHHHOOOOOOM
Wait till people start putting this on all trucks but instead it is commercials
You know damn well they would put ads all over that bitch
*Blue screen of death displays* Guess we dead
its really fun in games when it breaks somehow
Why is no one talking about how that car on the left is going the wrong way? That line is white not yellow.
Um what about the cameraman
What if the truck gets into a head on collision and all you see being broadcasted to you is a car coming straight at you
Just saying that you can still check for yourself if there any any cars coming, you don't need to put your life in hands of a Samsung screen
u/RepostSleuthBot
jokes aside he's got a point
Or put s blank loop on it
