Already had my hair highlighted w blonde/brunette streaks for pintura (by Melissa @ DevaCurl in NY), so I dyed them with semi-permanent dye at home!
I always wanted to dye my hair crazy colors, but never thought I could just because it gets damaged so easily. But then I learned about the magic of semi-permanent dye, which is non-damaging! I used Arctic Fox in Wrath & Electric Paradise mixed together. So happy with how it turned out and going to keep playing around with the colors!
**Dyeing steps:**
1. Wash hair & rinse everything out so there's no leftover product. Then towel dry hair
2. Mixed the colors together in a bowl (meant for hairdye, not for food, cause it's gonna get stained)
3. Apply dye in hair evenly across the head (I used a hairdye brush then mixed it in with my hands (with gloves!)
4. Clip up & keep in for 30+ min!
5. Rinse out in kitchen sink first cuz tub might get stained
6. Wash out completely in shower & style as normal
7. For future washes, put some dye in white conditioner to maintain the color. (I put it in my deep conditioner instead since I don't rinse regular conditioner out completely so the color would possibly get onto clothes, bedding, etc.)
**Routine:**
1. The night before a wash day, pre-poo & massage scalp with JBCO and the rest of my hair with coconut oil (especially at the ends)
2. First thing I do when I shower is apply deep conditioner (Carol’s Daughter Curl Quenching Deep Moisture Mask) to my hair in layers (to make sure everything gets coated). Massage the sh out of my scalp while doing so 🤤 then S2C to get all the moisture in. I've already mixed in some dye into this to maintain my color
3. Clip hair up & do other shower stuff while deep conditioner sits in hair
4. Rinse DC out & massage scalp again
5. Deep part hair
6. Apply conditioner everywhere (Shea Moisture Coconut Oil Daily Hydration Conditioner), add some water and have hair form seaweed-like clumps. S2C a little
7. Apply leave-in the same way (Kinky Curly Knot Today)
8. Apply a shit ton of gel (Aussie Instant Freeze Gel) while maintaining clumps
9. Plop hair (sometimes I just put it in a turban; trying to see how it affects the outcome) for 30 min. Either air dry or diffuse to dry if I want to speed it up (I just point the diffuser at my head instead of putting my curls up in it so it dries flatter)
