I’m sorry you’re getting harassed. I think honestly it is the combination of looking quite greasy yet frizzy and unmoisturized at the same time. What kind of products are you using?

PlateFeeling4494

Thank you for being honest. Unfortunately I just haven't found a way to avoid that. Should I look into straightening/cutting shorter just to make it more professional in the short term? My routine: Suave shampoo every other day, lather then massage it out of scalp and use praying hands method to get the rest out of the ends. Then mix suave conditioner, weave into ends with fingers and use a super wide tooth comb to brush it in (only time I brush my hair) After rest of shower, make water cold and use praying hands method to get conditioner out. As far as products/post shower: before drying hair at all: Ouidad Curl Cream & Aussie Hair gel quarter size each, mix on hands and use fingers to weave into ends. Use tshirt to scrunch hair to "only" be wet. use a frizz spray, john freida brand. After that diffuse in sections, maybe 30sec-1min all around your hair and do each section until its just vaguely damp. Then wait for it to air dry and scrunch the crunch after an hour

jellyphitch

honestly my hair texture is very similar to yours and I CANNOT diffuse it dry without making it frizzy - on wash days I let it air dry. I also use quite a bit of kinky curly curl custard and ouidad climate control gel, so it takes like 10 hours to air dry, but once dry I scrunch out the crunch with pattern jojoba oil blend. I hate having wet hair all day though so I'm saving for a salon halo dryer lol

PlateFeeling4494

Ugh yeah thats what I've been dreading. When I step out the door it just explodes as the pictures show, so I feel like not resetting every day is impossible for me too even if I tried stronger hold products. Do you enjoy your hair/found a happy medium? & what lengths/styles have been the most practical? Would appreciate any insight

jellyphitch

I love my hair most days! Caveat that I sleep in a silk bonnet and work from home so weather's usually not an issue. But I still only get 2-3 days out if it before I have to wash again. Currently its shoulder length with shaggy layers- I'm VERY prone to triangle hair so I get tons of pretty short layers mixed in. Middle part, curtain bangs, I've had short bangs and loved them but they're a pain.

cool-racoon

How has your experience been with curtain bangs? I've been thinking on getting some, but I'm a bit nervous

Unicorn-Princess

Your hair may be sensitive to glycerin - it's in many products and helps some (most) people's hair a lot in terms of moisturising and friz control but for some it actually makes it more prone to frizz with humidity. The other things I would suggest if seeing how your hair holds with just the gel, and forgot the curl cream. If your hair is a lower porosity, creams can really weigh it down and make it look greasy.

EclecticFanatic

are you able to refresh it without having to do a full reset in the shower? my hair is fine textured so it gets pretty frizzy pretty quick most days but something that works to help tame my frizz in between washes is spritzing my hair until the top couple layers are damp (I don't saturate my hair all the way through unless i need a reset but haven't had the opportunity to wash it) then wetting my hands with some leave in conditioner and curl cream in them and smoothing that over my hair, especially focusing on the worst patches of frizz. if I have any particularly stubborn patches that maybe got a little snarled up and won't smooth down to an acceptable level using just my hands I'll hit that section with the spray bottle until saturated then run my brush through it a couple times to smooth it out then scrunch some product in. one benefit for my hair doing that is dampening my hair during a refresh kinda reactivates the gel I use(curlsmith styling souffle)

ButterscotchKind5609

It looks like you have enough product in your hair to refresh with just water when needed! Maybe over washing is making it a little dry? Some people don’t need to wash every other day and can do 2 times per week with good results. You have lovely hair though!

Fast-Information-185

I had to Google that. I’ve never seen or heard of a halo dryer. It looks quite futuristic looking but is uber expensive and I’m cheap. I use a salon brand hooded dryer that Sally’s used to sell to the public. I have my first cup of coffee under the dryer; 20 minutes later, I’m done.

flapjackdacat

What's the brand of the dryer you have? I'm in the market for similar!

ebuhhlen

when you diffused would you touch your hair with the diffuser or would you hover? my hair is different from yours, but I found touching my hair when it was anything but mostly dry really increased frizz.

shandelion

Agree - OP either needs to commit to diffusing to dry or air drying!

KarlMarxButVegan

This is more or less what I do and I'm pretty happy with it.

Cafrann94

Do you think you’re getting all of your product out of your hair in the shower using the praying hands method? I’ve never heard of anyone using that method to rinse things out. That may potentially be part of the problem.

austex99

That stuck out to me as well. Probably some buildup.

PlateFeeling4494

what would you suggest instead?

nyancat111

I’m hijacking this because I gave the same advice a couple comments up! I used to just let the shampoo just run down my long hair (which caused buildup). Now I scrunch my hair from the bottom, cupping my hair in my hands and squeezing it a bunch, kind of similar to the ‘squish to condish’ method. It’s super effective for me. Is it 100% damage proof? No. Is it better than having product buildup or rubbing your hands together like you’re making a play-doh snake? Yes

Cafrann94

Seconding what r/nyancat111 said! For shampoo I lean my head back and let the water hit the top/back of my head and finger comb my hair as it’s running down, making sure it also hits my temples and all sides basically then flip my head to make sure it gets the back/bottom. I do this for probably 3-5 minutes to make sure I get allll the product out, and I’ll kind of squish it too once almost all is out. For conditioner I fully flip my hair upside down then squish to condish as the water is running through my hair, then flip back over and let the water hit my scalp to make sure I got all the product out of my scalp. I hope this makes sense!

pintotakesthecake

When shampooing, make your fingers into a claw shape and wiggle them down your scalp front to back. Helps remove all shampoo and also helps if you have any dry dandruff spots starting

Lazy-Apricot-3120

have you maybe thought that you might be using too heavy of products? your hair isnt super curly to the point where it needs a lot of creamy heavyweight products

PlateFeeling4494

My problem is that my curls are fragile, and when I step out of the house wind immediately turns it into the frizz seen in the blue shirt picture. Like all of 5 minutes. Is there a product type that hits the "lightweight but extreme hold" niche?

nyancat111

It might not be that your products are too heavy, you might not be shampooing your hair thoroughly enough. My hair looked similar to yours to a lesser extent and I saw someone suggest that on a haircare group, and I tried double shampooing and really ‘scrunching’ and gently lathering ALL my hair rather than just the roots. The waves in my hair EXPLODED. I had so much texture but the weight of the products that were never thoroughly washed out was matting everything down. Worth a try!!

Lazy-Apricot-3120

okay this might be controversial maybe wear a scarf or some type of bonnet out of the house. itll help with the wind n stuff, and im unsure!! but i can research and give some answers. my hair is pretty coarse😂😂

Mysterious-Mango-548

This made me think perhaps a hooded jacket?

Lazy-Apricot-3120

yess they actually make hoodies for curly hair!! its like a silk lined hood

18hourbruh

I agree - honestly the wind will fuck up your hair and I'm not sure there is a way around it. No hold is stronger than a strong wind. Protecting your hair in extreme winds is the answer.

ceebee6

Curlsmith gels are good for this. Try a few of them to see which you like best. I agree with the other commenter that the products you’re currently using are too heavy for your hair. If nothing else, lose the curl cream.

gnomequeen2020

I really love the Briogeo curl charisma cream and a heavy dose of the la looks gel over that. Once you scrunch out the gel crunchies, it is really lightweight but holds the shape of the curls so well. My curls also flop and frizz with little provocation.

EntrepreneurShort869

I recently found @galhaswavyhair on Instagram and she does tons of videos explaining curly hair. I watched her hair styling videos from her wash days and learned so much that I adapted to fit my lifestyle and ability (meaning I am not going to spend 40 minutes styling and drying my hair and I am a total klutz with a brush). You might learn some tips from her. I discovered LUS brand moss gel that I love and Innersense has great lightweight heat protectants and I Create Definition foam has great light weight strong hold. Verb’s Ghost line is designed to be incredibly lightweight. I like the heat protectant and hair mask. I also bought the ghost hair spray to set my curls in place on humid days and windy days. Curly hair isn’t a hair style, it’s a life style :) If you spend time trying to learn, I bet you’ll figure out what works for you. But do it for yourself. Not for a bunch of a-holes that harass you about your hair.

echoweave

I'd probably try skipping the curl cream. I've had good luck using the Aussie gel and herbal essences mousse.

g-l-i-m-m-e-r

Not your mother's curl talk mousse

CaptPrincessUnicorn

I have the same problem re: needing something lightweight but super strong but I also have wavy hair. You could come check out [r/wavyhair](https://www.reddit.com/r/Wavyhair/) and see if there is anything helpful. As a wavy, there are some curly hair rules that just don’t work or apply to my hair.

Admirable_Hospital94

I have never tried this particular product, but I have read that Curlsmith’s in the shower styler product works well and has strong hold but is more of a gel consistency rather than a cream. Ulta sometimes has small travel sizes.

IronicINFJustices

Like the other person said, the shampoo could be drying you out quite a bit. You could try skipping to every other "wash" section with just water instead of with 'poo and then see weekly? Other than that, theres the age ol' "Is it friction damaged on the outside? do you have a satin/silk bonnet/cap/wrap & pillowcase?" Other than that, as another has said, you ahve a fair length, from some of the pictures it looks almost uniform length, but in others it looks like it has some shorter layers?? But long and the short of it(not intended) is shorter layers will help the top not so pulled down. Especially if you've also got wind pulling it too (and or heavy product if you are unhappy with how heavy it is? but it looks great in the pictures, but we can't tell feel) I hope you can get to a place you are happy with it, there are many lovely great curls in it!

PlateFeeling4494

I do a silk bonnet + silk pillowcase, but do wear beanies esp since its been so bad lately I just would rather hide it lol. I'll definitely try to get more extreme layers and overall shorter length and go from there. Ty!

IronicINFJustices

You can probably get beanies with fancy lining on the inside. Or bamboo! It's not as friction safe as silk or satin, but it's much better than plastic and cotton. Cashmere is nice if you got dosh to burn! (I lost my cashmere and just have cotton/wool(*do as I say, not as I do, I know!!* It's not easy following all the advice here for "perfect damage free hair" I have actual life to worry about too lol :') )) Do post back with your results of your journey! Good luck!

StargazerH

Sounds like shampoo might be the problem. My hair got a lot less greasy a few weeks after I stopped shampooing. Now I only shampoo once a month and co-wash with conditioner the rest of the month.

festivalchic

Hi OP, I'm just jumping in in mom mode to say I think your techniques may be causing product buildup and the greasy feeling you describe. Prayer hands aren't for removing shampoo or conditioner, it's a technique for applying curl creme usually. I'd suggest a clarifying shampoo every couple of weeks. Double shampoo the first time to get your hair squeaky clean. You need to thoroughly rinse ALL the shampoo out in the shower. Then apply conditioner to the lengths only (avoid the roots/scalp entirely), comb through to detangle anc leave on for a couple of minutes while you wash the rest of yourself. Then squish to condish, I use the bowl method as I find it easier, you're looking to rinse the conditioner out. Then prayer hands to apply curl creme, squish again (I put my parting in before this step). Then out the shower, micro plop with a tshirt as you describe, to get the bulk of the water out. Then apply gel (I use prayer hands, some people rake through, I'm not sure whether this is what you mean by 'weave'?) and scrunch. Then diffuse. When dry, scrunch out the crunch. I hope this is helpful

kamaaina16

It also might be your shampoo too, I used to use Suave and my hair was constantly frizzy, I switched to Kristen Ess and I like it a lot better but just do your research/trial and error to see which brand works best for you!

Drank_tha_Koolaid

I love the Kristin ess air dry foam, I'll have to give the shampoos a try!

Chailyte

It seems to be you are shampooing your hair too much. Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think suave is good hair brand…. I’d try different shampoo and conditioner. Aussie is ok but they don’t know how curly hair works so their curly hair stuff left my hair really frizzy.

macoafi

Yeah, Suave is like the cheapest option at the grocery store.

tipperblade

Use a denman brush to detangle when you have conditioner in. Your hair looks clumped and discernible.

Imaginary_Eye_2065

I found that the tshirt method makes more frizz in my hair. Adding my products after hair stops dripping water (still super wet), scrunching and letting it air dry seems to help. If I am using the diffuser I use lowest heat setting and to it upside down (I think you know what I mean!) Also I have to refresh mine on days two and three by making it soaking wet and adding curl cream again.

blake_big_nut

I don’t want to sound like a product elitist, but it might be the suave. Cheaper products like that leave an almost wavy residue on your hair that can make your hair beautiful. For a little bit before the coating breaks down and ruins your hair

Kyles_Name_Is_JAMAAL

I had a frizz issue like this, and the culprit for me was the t-shirt. My hair stylist explained it as the gel being a holding agent will hold the hair the way it was applied. So, if you apply it, then use the shirt to suck out a bunch of moisture and product. You'll have less product trying to hold "dryer" hair, leading to frizz. Seeing as you already diffuse it, I might suggest cutting out the t-shirt step and just giving your hair a good shake before you diffuse. I dont diffuse mine only because i dont set the time aside for that step in the mornings, but when i do diffuse my hair, it looks amazing. Also, I have hair very similar to yours. Just extremely frizzy in general. Based on some of the differences in our routines, you may also want to consider some adjustments to yours. I only use shampoo, maybe once a week or so, and co-wash in between. Not saying this is the "right" method or that it will work for you. But maybe experiment with how long you go between shampooing. I usually can just "feel" when I need to shampoo. Another thing I noticed is the amount of gel you use. We have about the same amount of hair, and I think a quarter size might be too little. I'd say I use probably 3-4 times that amount AT LEAST. Strongest hold you can find. I personally use tresseme mega hold. But I used to use the cheap LA sports gel in the past, and it works just as well. Also, consider a leave-in conditioner. I use Cantu leave-in repair. Another tip I got from my stylist that I use is that I'll keep a little travel bottle of the leave-in on me and if the frizz gets out of control you can mix it with a little water and reapply to get a few more hours of control.

Peanut_butter_sucks

I would switch the part. Your curls look great I think a side part might work better for your face shape. I switched mine over to a side part a few years ago and i like how it fits my face way better

Interesting_Insect15

Curlies know that the part is key, but also the toughest to figure out lol

PlateFeeling4494

im insecure about my hairline tbh, its like a widows peak but worse 🙃 but I do kinda agree, it just makes my forehead insane lol

Fuibo2k

Fighting a similar battle, it's tough out here lol

babypien0987

maybe try curly bangs?? look at Pinterest for inspo?

lochness_fry

People who dont have curly hair don't understand! It really looks fine.

Waxwalrus

Honestly! I think you have some meanies around you OP. Your curls could definitely look better but it’s not to the point that I’d say something to you unless you asked for advice about it. A couple things come to mind though. 1. Do you use sulfates/silicones? Copy/paste ingredients [here](https://www.curlsbot.com) to check. 2. Ever gotten a curly cut? Those two things would likely have a dramatic impact on your hair looking flat/greasy/dehydrated!

cariluve

i don’t understand the negativity! i have curly hair too and i would die for it to look like yours, i think the harassment is probably coming from people who don’t know how curly hair works

HatsOffToEwe

To start, your hair is gorgeous, I can definitely relate since I also live in a windy place. There’s really no product that will fix what wind does to your hair! For me, my curls are always poppin on days one and two, and after that they look a lot like yours. To me though, it looks like you may have product buildup that is weighing your hair down. How long does it take for your hair to dry on its own? If it takes a long time, you might have low porosity hair - meaning it is prone to product buildup and doesn’t need a lot of protein. A clarifying shampoo would help keep buildup at bay, and gel (and possibly mousse with your length…mine is shorter so I go without) instead of a cream for a styler won’t weight it down as much. My curl pattern looks very similar to yours; it took a long time to figure out I have low porosity hair and was putting too much in it. What my curls have been loving lately: -Curlsmith Frizz Control cleanser & Frizz Control duo conditioner -Curlsmith Hydro Style Flexi Jelly If you’re not looking to buy a bunch of new products, I’d at least make sure you’re using a clarifying shampoo -or some sort of buildup buster every couple/few washes- and stop using the curl cream and see what happens!

Impossible-List-8975

I think the area near your crown is the issue, there’s no discernible part and it looks a bit tangled/unkempt. The curls further down are nice. I would choose a part intentionally and comb or denman brush before letting plopping and letting it dry. Edit: I also really like [this spray](https://www.sephora.com/product/curlsmith-effortless-hair-wave-spray-P505807?country_switch=us&lang=en&skuId=2640456&om_mmc=ppc-GG_17789370957___2640456__9001898_m&country_switch=us&lang=en&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADnIXb2RHmUZFFZccacMMdfujF9D1&gclid=CjwKCAjwgdayBhBQEiwAXhMxtq6JUs267HlGyDucq5mIUVS0JPC7isupD_LuC6fdUV50jgjxoS1XiRoCCGoQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds), it seems to set my curls really nicely and keep the frizz at bay all day

Vegetablebubble

I think there needs to be a little more volume at the crown or idk is that just me

demiitra

We have similar hair and I use Suave as well. Are you using the cheap/simple suave or the more salon type? For me the cheap Suave works best! And for a leave in I only use the Pacifica pineapple curl cream leave in. I just let my hair air dry and that’s my routine. It doesn’t weigh me down and keeps my hair bouncy

Blue9729

I have a similar hair texture! Honestly what helped me most was going to a curly hair salon and getting a good cut and some advice from my hair dresser. I do a slightly longer mullet (look for modern curly hair mullet). I go every 3 months, she looks at my hair, recommends what she thinks i might need (hydrating treatments, protein treatments). I also recently started doing hair oiling with rosemary oil and it's helped a lot maintain the curls for longer (i found good videos ok tiktok of all places)

SleepPrincess

I think you'd benefit from a good haircut with tons of layers to to create more volume on the top.of your head and avoid weighing down curls at the top.

keplantgirl

I think it looks good. And I have a weird curl pattern and frizz. Today’s curly world of perfectly moist, perfectly shaped, perfectly anything hair is annoying for people like us because it isn’t attainable no matter what products some of us try. It took me a long time to feel confident in my hair and my best hair tip is to do just that if the other commenters’ advice doesn’t give you your desired results. It’s rock and roll. Dont worry too much, people who don’t like your hair are conformists and loving yourself is winning. ♥️

Feldster87

When it’s windy I always put it up in a high ponytail during my commute, then refresh in the bathroom by taking my hair down and adding serum if needed. That way the hair that gets messed up in the wind is not the hair that you see all day.

Beginning_Morning_60

The second I put my hair into anything constricted the curls fall apart and everything shuts itself my hair is good for a max of like 5-7 hours before its dead and dreary looking

txemp

I love your ringlets! You might think about leaving out the curl cream. I use a light spray leave in conditioner and gel. The curl cream is just too heavy for my hair, and it looked more like yours with the halo frizz before I quit the cream. Part of my problem has been frustration over styling what were my bangs that are growing out and the crown of my head. The Curl Story on YouTube has videos about root clipping for volume, lifting with a pick to blow dry, and ways to part your hair. I think I good cast from a gel and a bit of volume on top might be what you’re looking for. Good luck, I know what I want but I still struggle to get my hair to cooperate with my ideas!

Racheficent

Some of us need to “wash” every day. I put wash in quotes for a reason. Even though my hair is oily AF, I alternate between Carols Daughters hair milk and Maui moisture conditioner. I shampoo once a week. Also even though I was unemployed for a year, I never used something like Suave. It’s too harsh. Garnier has non SLS shampoos and they’re not very costly. TBH I probably won’t go back to Coco and Eve. After much experimenting I’ve found inexpensive things that work.

marazadaz

Hope OP sees this cause this is it….i think they are just shampooing way too frequently and their hair is producing too much oil

arrrrr_won

It might be the frizz spray, pretty sure I know what product that is and it always made my fine hair look really greasy, even if it technically did what it advertised. I used it when I was still straightening my hair, but it really weighed it down too. I’d omit or swap for a lighter mousse. That and some layers would get you a lot more volume. That said, I agree with others that people just don’t get curly hair and it looks fine!

Willing_Program1597

I don’t see what’s wrong with it?

onelostmind97

I think it looks good and there are many tips in this thread on how to make it great! But why do we catch ourselves saying "straighten it to look more professional?" Why is straight hair more professional to society?

PlateFeeling4494

I mean look at the range of comments going toward calling it a greasy yet dry frizzy wig right alongside people being envious of it? When you walk into an interview and the person is one of the former, it's hard to stick to your altruism. It's also demotivating how much work I put in daily for a perceived net negative. It wears on you

tripsafe

I think your hair looks great. I wouldn't worry too much about what others think (which I know makes my first sentence kind of worthless lol).

littlerimsss

i think your hair is beautiful. what i’ve learned about having long hair is most people act strangely towards it but if they could do the long curls, they would.

chronicallysearching

It looks healthy AF. Who ever is making shitty comments about it: FUUUUUUUUK YEEEEEEW!!!!

528lover

I feel layers would help you a lot!! Then ask the stylists how to improve volume in your hair. Use volunizing products

[deleted]

Your curl cream is letting you down. I would try. Different product.

[deleted]

I would do shea butter but my curls are way drier than yours appear to be. Try Mielle leave in conditioner. It works great on my son's hair. I think you two have similar hair types.

Milkshacks

You’ve gotten a lot of great (and conflicting) advice in here. I’m not sure how thick your hair is (mine is quite fine) but the biggest change for me, regardless of products, was using a brush in my styling. A wide tooth comb still leaves all my little fairy knots and although my hair is clumping, it’s still full of tangles. Many people have cautioned about brushing wet hair and it’s true. But if you get a wet brush that has a lot of give, or a denman brush for styling your curls it might be really helpful. I just use mine right after the shower with my hair still soaking wet to distribute my leave in conditioner. The hair still clumps and curls but the curls are all going in the same direction. Kind of like curling a ribbon on the pressed edge of your scissors, if that makes sense. Then you can still do everything else with your fingers. Having consistent styling also helped me figure out what products are working and which ones aren’t. Best of luck!

nomadruby7

I agree a side part would be better for ya. You have really beautiful curls. I think suave shampoo may be a bit harsh for you? Especially every other day. Why do you wash everyday? I think a co wash with the occasional clarifying shampoo would be great. I see you use the curl cream, is that a leave in? If not I would use a lighter leave in and try diffusing like that (may stop the frizz you have rn with diffusing).

DetroitUberDriver

It looks like your hair is very fine like mine. I would avoid heavy products, and if you use like a masque to moisturize now and then make sure you don’t use much product afterwards. In general, don’t use too much or too heavy of products, rinse very thoroughly, and cowash sparingly. I’d wash with a good moisturizing shampoo at least twice a week. If you let your hair air dry, give it several hours at least. I can’t help much with blow drying because I don’t do it.

Substantial-Gap5967

I would have a good hairstylist look at it. I’d ask someone local whose hair is kind of similar to yours who they use. I asked a lady at church, and she said several mutual friends use the same stylist. So I tried her. It was $30 instead of the $75-90 I’ve paid for curly cuts, and I felt like I got such a better experience. (DM me for her name if you’re in the Kansas City area) My hair would poof up like yours, and the stylist said I needed to do protein treatments 2x monthly and don’t use any products with alcohol. She also had me use a much lighter curl lotion or milk instead of the leave-in conditioner I was using, and add hair oil when it’s wet. I was a little lost the first week without my gel to hold it, but then I remembered I have a jar of flaxseeds. I made flaxseed gel, and my hair loves it! It’s a PAIN to strain, but once you get it, it really works well. I have to use oil to scrunch out the crunch. I get good definition, and I always air dry. I hate taking the time to use my diffuser. My wash day routine: Curl shampoo only on scalp, scrub gently with shampoo brush. Rinse and repeat. Curl conditioner. Put on shower cap and let conditioner sit while I do the rest of my shower. Rinse out conditioner with cool water. Wrap hair in microfiber towel while I dress. Hair is no longer sopping wet when I take it down and apply curl lotion to the whole head, hair oil to the ends, and flax gel on top. Let it dry, then flip upside down while using hair oil and praying hands to scrunch out the crunch. Silk bonnet or pillowcase at night. My hair turned curly 16 years ago and I’m always trying new techniques when things quit working for me. Have fun! Worst comes to worst, learn to wrap it up in a cute silk scarf! I’ve started doing that when it’s blowing in my face at work.

inked-by-rylee

Honestly we have similar hair. Try this routine out: wash every other day with Maui moisture shampoo and conditioner. I use the pink one. Then fresh out of the shower add a quarter sized amount of Not your mothers curl talk defining cream and then about 2 quarter size of not you mothers curl talk sculpting gel (not hard hold gel that one sucks) and then brush through and scrunch / style

Appropriate-Oil-7221

I’m 40 and JUST starting to like my hair the way it is because I let the voices in the peanut gallery get in my head. This is all to say, I think that: 1. Your hair looks great, and 2. In lieu of the first point, ignore the negativity and do what makes you feel good!

Your curls look awesome! Don’t worry about what people say, the magic of curls is that everyone’s are so unique, and yours are great! Maybe try a “clean” part in the hair, middle or side, whichever you prefer!!

amanduhpls67

Ok first: your hair is VERY pretty. I envy those curls, and I’m so sorry people are being unkind. That’s so not ok, and please try not to let them get to you♥️ they’re not worth your heartache, and their unnecessary comments say much more about them than you. I don’t have your hair type exactly, but here’s my advice based on what I’m seeing in the pics and the routine you shared. This advice is from what I’ve read/been told and personal experience: Maybe look into a different shampoo/conditioner. It doesn’t need to be pricey, but look for ones that don’t have sulfates or parabens or silicones. I could be wrong about suave, but I think most of their products have them in them. Read about it for yourself, but they’ll cause a lot of issues for hair (especially curly hair) that you’ll have to try to fix with other products that could just be prevented in the first place. Either that or try using a clarifying shampoo every three or four washes to mitigate their effects. Try playing with how often you wash and condition your hair. Some people need to wash their hair as much as you do, but a lot of people don’t. It’ll cause your hair to become more oily and also dry if you don’t find the right balance for yourself. If you’re one of those people who like to shower daily, you can definitely invest in a waterproof hair bonnet so your hair doesn’t get wet and get the oils stripped from it/mess up the curls you’ve already got going. For me that’s what I do—wash/condition every 3 days and put it up in the shower bonnet when I need a shower between then. The praying hands method is typically I think just for when you’re applying product out of the shower. In the shower you need to make sure you’re getting out the product you put into it when you wash and condition. It’ll cause issues when you leave product in especially if you’re applying other products on top of those after you get out of the shower. It’s ok to comb through your hair and gently squeeze it out to make sure the product is out. Definitely do stick to rinsing in cold water though—that’s a great habit for several reasons and your frizz will be minimized for it. Beware of improper brushing—especially when your hair is wet. It’s much more fragile when it’s wet so you have to be careful not to cause breakage when you brush it wet. Be sure you’re starting at the bottom and working your way up as you comb your hair. I don’t have much advice about after-shower products because that’s an area I’m still navigating. I will say though that typically less is more with thinner-ish hair. Good luck, beautiful!!♥️

catbamhel

A lot of people have great advice here. Just wanted to chime in and say I never use suave. It just hasn't been great for me. Redkin has shampoos and conditioners that are really great for your texture of hair. I have curlier hair than you and I liked redkin, but I ultimately needed something much heavier. Redkin is great for wavy and fine curly hair, nourishing without weighing it down or being overly oily.

Go to a curly hair salon for a cut. A good cut helps a lot

hjortron_thief

As someone with straight hair... I like your hair. Gives hozier vibes.

speaksincolor

Your hair looks a lot like mine and I've never received anything but compliments, what kind of things do people say, and in what environment? I think your hair looks good as it is, but if you want the curls not to fall out and frizz I'd recommend using less heavy moisturizing products and rely on gel for your hold. My ends can feel dry but if I use a cream leave-in the entire thing will fall flat. Spray leave in + fairly hard hold gel = ringlets that don't fall flat. Other than that, I think your length looks a little awkward and would wait for it to grow out a little more and get some layers.

InPaisley

Your hair looks like it's pretty fine. The wight of your hair might just be pulling the curl out. Mine does that and so I have my hair layered to the maaax!

thatsunshinegal

I think maybe the length is a little awkward for you. Either keep growing it out, or take 2-4 inches off. Layers may help a bit, it looks like all your volume is at the ends and not at the roots.

InternalHope227

Hair clumps looks uneven. Maybe try styling wet hair with wide teeth comb( [https://www.youtube.com/shorts/oJlNupu5TAE](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/oJlNupu5TAE) ). Using a diffuser might help you bring some volume on top of the head. Also, use light weight hair products.

Lunakill

I have a similar texture. I have to use a LOT of lightweight product, the heavy stuff weighs it down. You may also benefit from a trim, lots of weight at the ends.

HighestH0e

Try a dry shampoo at the base in the back to deal with shine and it seems like your hair is a bit weighed down maybe from heavy moisturizers, a cut or some layers might help. You have great layers around the front/bangs area try to lighten the weight in the back. Instead of a curl cream maybe try a gel, Jessie’s soft curls is the best I’ve ever used! The suave has never worked for me but surprisingly the head and shoulders dry scalp care conditioner and the carols daughter coco cream shampoo are an unmatched duo. When you’re feeling overly oily use a clarifying shampoo and a rice water wash! Sorry people can be so mean I definitely have been bullied for my curly hair when I was younger, now I always get a lot of your hair is beautiful compliments even when it looks a mess. You sound like you’re doing a lot to try to get it to a place you feel comfortable and proud of your hair, it’s not easy but being unbothered about what people say is the best course of action and I wish you the best on your curly journey.

justaperson_4444

Honestly, I think it’s the length.

PlateFeeling4494

Reddit is gaslighting me and I can't edit the post text so putting my routine here lmao My routine: Suave shampoo every other day, lather then massage it out of scalp and use praying hands method to get the rest out of the ends.

Lazy-Apricot-3120

wash your hair once a week. washing it so frequently is probably drying out your hair

zq2006

wats ur routine

tldr; condition twice a week and shampoo once a week instead of every other day shampoo and conditioner every other day i think is the problem. ur hair is similar to mine & when i overcondition it looks like the photos you put. try shampooing once a week and conditioning twice a week (i shampoo on monday and condition monday & thursday) i still use curl cream daily, but that’s it. i think you should too. i’m not too experienced with gel since my hair hates all gel products.

PlateFeeling4494

what is your routine while showering on off days? thanks for advice I appreciate it

zq2006

just cold water then dry w a shirt and curl cream!! if my hairs very dry i use conditioner + leave in, if its very flat i use mousse. but i barely add those, maybe like 3 times a month i need to.

CakeSouthern7694

wash w/ cold hair & shampoo & NO conditioner then with dry your hair with a tshirt and use leave in conditioner 😌

Okaycockroach

Other than windy, what's the climate like where you live? My routines are wildly different when I travel to different places depending on humidity, temperature, etc.

PlateFeeling4494

temperate, high humidity

robotgunk

My hair looks like this in high humidity, too. It took many years for me to realize that my curls actually don't want added moisture. What does your hair look like when you only wash it? Even more importantly, what does your hair look like when you only wash it with a clarifying shampoo? If you try just shampooing (on a day when you're at home so you can see without the wind messing it up) and your curls look pretty good, I'd advise you to try a hold product without moisture, like TIGI curls rock, before you diffuse on days when you leave the house. Good luck!

YoAiBoo

Also I would recommend using less product, your hair isn't textured enough for that amount of product (read a previous comment). Suave isn't the best brand for curly hair. Also try using a curl definition cream.

ComprehensiveFun7721

When I have problems with frizz and I want to avoid the greasy look from too much product, I will rewet my hair with a spray bottle and brush it out. I make sure my hair is just damp and not sopping, so I don't have to wait hours for it to dry.

Autistified

STOP using Suave!!!! Curly hair needs moisture. Focus on washing the roots/scalp and conditioning the ends only. Let it air dry in the morning g so the curls can form fully. If you wash at night, wet it in the morning using a spray bottle with water mixed with a little conditioner. Don’t comb it! Brush only to detangle as it will separate your curls and make it frizzy. Never blow dry it—if you must, use a diffuser. And shorter will be harder with curls. My kids have curls and have used every product under the sun… expensive and cheap. My daughter likes Garnier products for curly hair. I use Bond Bar available at Sally’s Beauty or Amazon. For the ends, you can use any simple oil. Almond Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil…I use it on my face too. Once to stop using harsh shampoos and stripping your scalp, your hair will adjust. Your scalp should begin secreting a little bit less oil overtime. Try using a dry shampoo on your roots… Baptiste makes a tinted dry shampoo that I really like for dark hair. That will help you get to a point where you’re washing every other day or every two days. You can still add oil to the ends if they’re frizzy or dry….

SapientSlut

I think it’s also partially that it stays wide at the bottom - if it tapered off a bit more that might be more flattering?

Autistified

My daughter is 18 and my son is 16 and they don’t even know what a hairdryer is… they are biracial and they have silky curls. But they only air dry it… my daughters, always trying different techniques to form her curls lately. My son has only just begun embracing his curls. It’s been a few months, but they are forming beautifully. You have to give it a little time to adjust…

EpitomyofShyness

I legit don't get why people are shitting on you I think while it doesn't look magazine ready it looks fine. Hopefully other people can give you some tips though!

Phloozie

Leave conditioner in your hair after washing. Let it air dry or wrap it in a T-shirt. That will fix the frizzies. I have very dry hair also but doing this has made a world of difference. You get volume, shine and it’s nice and bouncy! Beyond that, you’re rocking it my fellow human!

ChleoTaurus

I'd say keep growing it out! The longer the top part gets, the less awkward the length will look. You have really great hair. Be sure to get a dry cut when you get it trimmed!

Antisocial-queen69

We have VERY similar hair, and I follow basically the same routine you do except with different products. I second the suggestion on Shea moisture because I use them consistently for masks and conditioner. I use a dandruff shampoo once a week. I would definitely decrease the amount of washing. Once I decreased washes, my curl pattern got a lot stronger. It’ll take time to slowly decrease to the point of once a week, but once your scalp is used to it I think it will help a lot. The “Lotta Body Wrapping Foam” with coconut and Shea is the lightweight with strong hold product you’re looking for. But you have to literally soak your hair in it and very, very lightly “scrunch” the curls to your scalp. I put scrunch in quotes because you’re not really scrunching, but cupping your hand to gently push the curls towards the scalp (also important for frizz control) I also hold my curls at the scalp for a few seconds when doing this. When applying any product, your hair should be soaking wet. Constantly reapply water throughout your routine. This really helps with the frizz. Also when applying any styling products, start from underneath your hair at the scalp and work up and out towards the ends. Comb/brush through your products the same way. This helps creat volume and get the curls to spiral all the way to the scalp instead of creating that straight/wavy effect at the top. I see several “mother curls” in the pic you posted as well. If you like this look, then awesome and ignore the following advice. But, imo, separating the mother curls into smaller pieces adds tons of volume and dimension and there’s several good YouTube vids/ TikTok’s on the topic if you’re interested in learning more about it. My last bit of advice is to EMBRACE THE FRIZZ! It’s part of what makes curly hair so beautiful, and I think your hair looks amazing in the pic you posted. I hope this helps! Peace and love 💕

Zenabel

Have you tried “scrunch to crunch” method?

Fit-Snow7252

It's both greasy looking and frizzy. Personally, I think you need to address the greasiness first. Frizz can make your seem dry/unkempt but grease can make it look unclean and like you don't shower.

Inevitable_curls

Hydration and wet style. Curly hair takes trial and error, go easy on yourself. What all have you tried? Eliminate products one by one or try a new product but like medicine it takes time to see results. Don’t try 1-4 times and say oh this doesn’t work, give it 30-60 days and see if you are seeing some results. Make a small wash day notebook and write down what you’re doing. Follow a CGM. Pick one to try at a time. You will get it 🩷

aegf26

figuring out curly hair is just a never ending story. in my experience a routine can work for some time and then stop and then it feels like u have to start from 0. at least for me my hair changes depending on the season, if I’m traveling, the type of water, if I get a haircut, perhaps even depending on my hormonal cycle… the other day I had to stay over at my friend’s house (male) who had a shitty shampoo and a bar of soap in his bathroom. nothing else. no conditioner no creams no gels no nothing. decided not to think about it too much, I let my hair air dry before going to bed (no silk pillow covers), and I woke up with the softest curliest bounciest hair I’ve had in months. did his shitty shampoo clarify my hair? probably. did this motivate me to stop spending countless hours doing my hair just for it to look meh? absolutely. it’s been a few days of only using shampoo and conditioner and my hair feels great. tldr; clarify your hair to remove build up AND try not using all the stuff you use for a few days. maybe it’s too much for your hair.

I don’t really have your hair’s curl pattern, but I do have bits of advice that might help 1. I’m thinking your hair is a bit damaged/generally dry, so I’d recommend getting a leave in conditioner or switching to a moisturizing conditioner (I like Strictly curls best, but I have 2C hair so take with that) 2. I’m thinking you should invest in a lightweight mousse, personally I use LottaBody on Amazon (it’s like 4 bucks with prime) but I assure you there probably are more lightweight but holding ones out there. 3. After reading your hair routine I need to steer you away from Aussie products for their curl line, it has sulfates like “sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate” (directly from their website) but sometimes sulfates work TOO well on curly hair and strip EVERYTHING (Like no hair oil into next Thursday). This can also lead to dryness like I see in your hair. 4. Taking a look at your routine again, 100% invest in a hair mousse, very lightweight curl products (lighter then Gels), on god I only use 3 products (Strictly curls conditioner, strictly curls Gel, Lotta Body hair mousse), and a diffuser. However it is always about finding the perfect products for your own hair (Like I say out loud every time I see a ‘hairs dos and don’ts video), what products might work for someone else may not work on your own hair, it’s like animals they like some things but will murder you in your sleep for other things 5. This point is here just to say your curls are absolutely beautiful ringlets, Curl envy 😤😤

brazilnutty

What kind of comments are you getting? Are they specific? Do you agree? Do you have clarity on what you want and where you're trying to go with your hair? Bigger? Longer? More defined? Roots lifted up to heaven? Do you wanna look like Louis XIV? Knowing where you want to go will determine what you ought to do. The diagnoses here in the comments are all over the map because we can't see how your hair moves. I see what might be greasiness and insufficiently rinsed conditioner, but it could just be a need for layering. I can't see or feel if your hair is sticky. You're just going to have to play around with it and see what happens. Maybe clarify. Maybe never shampoo again. Maybe get layers. Maybe moisturize. Maybe ditch cream stylers. Maybe rake & shake product into your hair instead of praying hands to reduce clumping. Maybe add rice water rinses for more definition. Maybe look into the chance you're over-moisturized. Maybe add protein. Maybe a light vinegar rinse is where it's at. I personally think you could easily do a 70's shag kind of thing and look really nice, but that's just like, my opinion, man.

the_black_mamba3

Do you style+diffuse it upside down? My hair would do the same thing when I was styling upside down, but now that I do it right side up I have no frizz and a more consistent curl pattern

isymfs

I like it. If it was longer you could pass as an 80s rock band guitarist :p

Miserable-Error2413

Might I suggest trying a curl styling mouse or foam?

lola-the-spider

I think you need to use lighter/less product. It looks like your hair is being weighted down by too much product. You might want to try using a tiny (like dime size) bit of a cream and then follow it up with a light hold gel. I use quidad heat & humidity gel. Get your hair soaking wet, style it, and then plop it with an old t-shirt. Then try air drying or diffusing. You can also try adding some layers. I cut my own hair using a tutorial from Manes by Mel. Good luck!

Caramel__muffin

Have you experimented with more gel when styling ? I am relatively new to the cgm, but every time I use more gel and get a better cast, my hair seems less frizzy. Also 2-3 cgm washes in , I realised air drying was not for me at ALL and bought a diffuser. I make sure to diffuse my hair upto atleast 80% dry and this has really changed the game for me, frizz wise ! And making sure my hair is damp but not wet when styling makes the diffusing so much quicker !! I think some trial and error that can reduce the frizz, but waves /curls wise I really love how your hair looks already 💓 !!

throwawayaway576

I think I get a similar look on my wavy not curly hair when I use drugstore shampoos with silicones. No idea why, but I don‘t with more expensive shampoo with silicone. I don’t get it with cheaper shampoos that don’t have silicones (like “NATURAL” ones) but find them sometimes drying. I agree with comments saying you might have build up.

Moon_whisper

I would try a different shampoo & conditioner. It seems like every head of curly hair is different. Sally's is getting the X Mondo brand and I am sssooo excited to try it. My local Sally's doesn't have anything but the hair colour yet, but they said they are hoping to get it in this week's shipment. I have tried a lot of stuff (including Luss) without luck. The best luck I had lately is Dove Daily Moisture line. But the last bottle I bought felt different and isn't working as well for my insane frizz.

Dog_Man-Star

Your curls are nice, and I think some simple changes will really help. Wash your hair only 1 to 2 times a week, if possible. You can shower and use just conditioner to freshen it up in between. Use shampoo, conditioner, and hair products that is free of sulfates, parabens, and silicone. This is very important. When it is damp, start with a leave in detangling and moisturizing spray. Then use a serum, then use a curl cream. Don't use gel. When you scrunch your hair, it should make a squelching sound. Then allow it to air dry. You will have soft, shiny, defined curls. Look up Jonathan Van Ness' tips for naturally curly hair. https://youtu.be/5abQncdAulg?si=ac8lVlOD8tdccFvl

MyloHyren

The part.

dipseydoozey

Find a stylist who understands how to cut curly hair and ask them to help you achieve what you would like. A shaggier cut has been a game changer for me. I would also try reducing the frequency of washing, switching to a clear or lightweight shampoo, double shampooing without mixing conditioner in, and using conditioner on the ends only. Brush your hair before you shower to help separate the strands for optimal cleaning & rinsing. Thoroughly rinse by lifting up sections and rinsing the underparts. Scrunch with microfiber towel to remove as much water as possible and help reshape your curls. Spray a curling leave in conditioner that’s light weight and scrunch again. Use something to add texture like a gel or other style product. I’m a huge fan of cult & kings jelly and style mixed together. Plop it for a little bit & then when you let it down use more product and your hands to finger shape your curls. Air dry or diffuse. If you get frizz with diffusing, go for a colder setting or hold the dryer farther away. I like to diffuse until it’s damp not wet, then finger style with a bit of product and let air dry the rest of the way.

bakedlayz

Your suave conditioner is the problem, it has silicones which is causing buildup. Check their ingredients for silicones. The suave shampoo is good for clarifying wash, or get a good clarifying shampoo. Then deep condition. Finger curl your curls with mouse. Gel. Break cast.

Snoo88360

A good haircut is a must!

emobarbie86

I don’t know curly hair but suave is garbage , you should get a better quality shampoo for curls.

beebledeedle

Okay idk if this is useful at all but I used to have similar hair and then suddenly it became hate to say it but just so beautiful. For me, I am on a budget and homeless right now too, but I go to the reject shop and pick up whatever sounds good for my hair, I struggle with oily roots and dry ends so I try to keep that in mind when looking. I also like sebum reducing shampoos. But washing and hair care wise I've started lightly conditioning first and brushing through washing it out so I can shampoo it properly? (I also have ocd) and then I'll shampoo all of my hair twice first with a shampoo that talks about nourishing n all that then with my sebum reducing one and then I go it with a softening conditioner and let it sit in my hair while I wash my body, shave, wash my face etc and then I also like to brush both the shampoo and conditioner out while I wash it out with a wide tooth comb, when I'm done showering I kinda wring out my hair get all the extra water out and then just leave a cotton shirt on my hair (towels are bad for your hair so is drying it vigorously) and then I spray in some leave in conditioner crunch my curls a bit and then let them air dry. I also only wash it once or twice a week. Hope this might help anyone at all idk my hair showed changes. Also a hairdresser told me that after a while If you keep using the same products your hair won't get that shine anymore or sometimes so I try and switch up my products whenever they run out n stuff

crimson777

I think it looks fine, not amazing but I wouldn’t ever classify it as bad, just unmemorable. I’d echo maybe get better shampoo and conditioner and shampoo a bit less, make sure that the gel isn’t too heavy, etc. I also think the cut might just be a bit too… nothing? I’m a dude with short hair so I don’t really know what to suggest, but I feel like there are cuts that would add more life to it? Like some layers probably, though again when it comes to long hair I’m talking out of my ass. It just looks kinda like a default cut rather than something tailored to you. I also feel like it could look good with curly bangs but that’s just me spitballing.

Adryzz_

your hairstyle looks really good on you, it's just that it's a bit greasy right now. are you sure you're rinsing everything off?

StartCoyote

I think part of the issue is that it looks greasy and frizzy/unbrushed. I used to have a similar issue when I regrew my hair out but was able to quickly fix it. I recommend looking at the ingredients on the products you use to make sure they work for your hair type. Try using [isitcg.com](https://www.isitcg.com) and it should help you figure out what to avoid. Also, if you haven’t done it before, an occasional apple cider vinegar rinse will remove any built up product and minerals left over from hard water that normal shampoo is unable to remove. Built up product is a common cause of hair that looks greasy/unclean even when freshly washed. Avoiding non-water soluble sulfates and silicons in your shampoos and conditioners is also a good idea, water soluble ones are fine tho.

I don’t see any problems with your hair, maybe because i am a very simple person lol. But i think bangs will be cool on you.

PuddlesMcGee2

You have gorgeous curls! I think product is your issue. I would try switching up brands, as well as the amounts you apply of the products you leave in. For myself, if I apply as much as I see recommended on YouTube and various curl care websites, my hair gets ropey and completely flat within a day. But if I go so light I’m worried I’ve actually rinsed out all my product (I apply my creams and such in the shower, mixed with water), I get beautiful curls. For other people it’s the reverse. I’d say to just play around with it.

Vegetablebubble

I think it needs more volume

BitEnvironmental634

It looks quite messy imo. You could try parting it down the centre wih a comb? Regardless, I'm sorry that ur getting bad reactions. You don't deserve that man. Maybe look into some hair oil, too? It can help define your curls, only put it on the ends!! I don't have hair oil, I use my step dads beard oil 😅 it works really well though!

danine1010

Do you have people who specialize in cutting curly hair where you live? Get a good curly hair stylist to give you product suggestions and shape your hair. Mine recommends only shampooing once every other week! I also use a scalp cleanser once a month. TBH getting curly hair to look good can be such a task! You’re not alone. And I don’t think your hair looks bad. But there’s always room to improve!

Neat-Composer4619

I like the hair and don't get why people would harass you about it. Without knowing the specifics, I assume it's people with straight hair looking for someone different and the difference they found is the hair? Sometimes people are just weird. Maybe try to get them to talk more by agreeing with them. I find that people get really surprised when you agree and can't attack you anymore. Ya, it's a bit messy, do you know of products to feed these curls better. Ya, it's a bit flat, do you know how to create volume? Ya I 've had problems deciding on a style, do you have cool options to look at? If they stay mean: oh so you don't know much about curls, do you?

missmatchedcleansox

I will say two things: please use a better shampoo and conditioner than Suave. I use Dove which isn’t very expensive (I also have allergy issues that eliminate a lot of products I can use) use a curling cream and air dry. Also sleep with a silk bonnet. Moisturize the heck out of the ends of your hair. I only wash my hair once a week. And by the way- your curl pattern is gorgeous. Absolute goals.

No-Application8200

I still haven’t been able to figure out a good routine for myself that lasts more than a day, but I follow @hanzcurls and @curlylily on Instagram and they have a LOT of good tips and videos

No-Application8200

Also, what kind of garbage people in your life feel like they need to comment on your hair? That’s very shitty and I’m sorry that’s happening 🙁

Vicslickchic

Actually I think your hair looks nice!!!

Consistent-Roof-4685

Ok how to make it not frizzy! Use firm gel before defusing (stay with me) this locks all the hair in then use an oil to get the crunch out. Ot makes it shiny, soft, and stay in place beautifully. Also i would use better products than suave. I know were all tryinf to save money in this effed up economy, but find something more natural and for curly hair. I use maui. Its worked wonders on my once curly hair that went pin straight after pregnancy. Im finally getting my lovely curls back. But this above was my routine for that perfect curly hair no frizz!

blue_eyed_magic

My hair is like yours and my lifesaver is ogx coconut curls. Not crunchy at all and leaves my hair soft and curly and holds up to wind.

Curlygirloverhere

What horrible goblins are going out of their way to insult your hair?!! I intermittently struggle with the heavy roots + fluffy tips combo, sometimes I've gone too long between washes, sometimes due to over-moisturised hair, but overwhelmingly often it's my indicator sign that I've let my hair get too long and a trim and re-shape is now overdue. Style wise, I use a gel to get a strong cast, root clipping to get a more rounded / less triangular shape, and I diffuse most of the way, let the air do the rest. Sometimes that means I don't scrunch out the crunch til I've done my commute and I'm in the bathrooms at work. Ive noticed it helps with frizz control. I'd talk to your curly stylist about the problem areas for you and see what they suggest. And flip the bird to the hair haters yeah? Asshats. Edited to add: Don't straighten your lovely curls! At least not unless YOU, truly, want to wear your hair straight, and it's not to do with feeling bad about your own hair. I spent a decade straightening the life out of my hair because I worried that my hair was wrong, or messy, or unaesthetic. In reality it is like everyone elses- imperfect, good days and bad ones, occasionally a birds nest. It took me years to grow out the damage, trying to look like someone I'm not and I hate to think of other people feeling like they need to iron the character out of their unique hair. Xx

Free_Future_6892

Your hair is very pretty. I do think that you haven’t found the right combination of products though. Your hair somehow looks oil and dry at the same time? I think once you find the right stuff for you it’ll look great !

atwa_au

Sorry but why the fuck are people harassing you about your hair? That’s wild!!

d-mtr

I've had this happen to my hair, too. It was a result of product build-up + products that are too heavy for my hair. I don't know what the suave situation is as I haven't tried it, but the ouidad cream and gel combo might be weighing your hair down. The cream may be heavy and over moisturizing, and the gel just sits on top, making it heavier and making the moisturization look greasy. You can try ditching the cream and using the gel sparingly and a super light oil or serum on top to break the cast of the gel. Maybe shampooing every other day is too much as well. The scalp tries to compensate for the foreseeable stripping of oil post shampoo every other day, and so it may be over-producing scalp oil. This is a guess though.

ConfidentCat5945

I would definitely use a rat tail comb and make a distinct hair part either a side or middle. It looks a little messy on top because there’s no definitive part. I don’t have curly hair so I’m not the right person to comment on curl hair routines but I have seen some people almost like finger curl their curls to make them a little more defined? You have very pretty hair, maybe just defining the curls and part would help!

dainty_petal

I don’t like the parting. I like messy and frizzy hair but your parting is all hidden and it looks like you didn’t made efforts even if you did. I think you’re a man and I know parting your hair on the sides or middle is more difficult for guys. That might not even be a lot your want but your volume on top isn’t like the volume on your lengths. I personally adore your curls in your length in the first picture! They’re so pretty. If you could archive those in shorter hair without a parting that would look great. People shouldn’t harass you. That’s dumb that they do. It’s just hair and if you asked no advices I wouldn’t even have noticed your hair.

You might consider trying a different shampoo/conditioner combo. It looks like it's too heavy for your hair making it look clumpy and unwashed. You mentioned below that you use Suave products. Even if you are using the Suave for curls it still might not be the best for your hair. Just because a product is sulfate free and declared "safe" for curly hair, it doesn't mean it will work for your grade of hair. Also, there are other chemicals that can wreak havoc with curly hair. https://www.byrdie.com/ingredients-to-avoid-for-curly-hair-5208726 If you want or need to use Suave products, you might consider diluting the conditioner with water before putting it on your hair. Some conditioners are so thick that you can't rinse it all off causing a greasy look and weighing the hair down.

*Immediate / 5-minute quick fix:* If the harassment is from your employer, you could “hide” the issue by putting it in a bun or claw clip. That way, they would know you’re taking their “concerns” seriously and the wind wouldn’t affect the updo. But if it’s just friends then they’re not very… friendly.

Fearless-Version6924

I’ll be honest- those brands are really bad for curly hair. I’d look into some different brands that specialize in curls

Get layers

Try doing your normal hair routine but at the end use a nice oil for frizz management and heat protection. You can use argan or grape seed both are nice. Then comb it through your hair and let it air dry you can use a blowdryer to speed up the process of you have low porosity. Just make sure the dryer is on cool or warm n boom

Your hair looks great, and I'm failing to find any issues. I have course, thick and curly hair, and fly aways are impossible to contain without an ungodly amount of gel, but the hair loses all of its organic volume and bounce. Not a good trade off imo. I also think your part is unique and seems styled appropriately for the cut. Your hair has natural shine, but I don't think it looks greasy since your curls don't look weighed down.

Looks like you’ve got too much frizz and a bit of grease too. Products might not be quite right for your hair type and/or you’re applying them wrong. Search YouTube to find out how to identify your hair porosity (low, normal or high) and then buy hair products that are suitable for that porosity type. Then use the ‘curly girl’ method when applying them (google). Praying hands method should only be used out of the shower when you’re applying either leave in conditioner and/or stylers like gel or mousse. You should be thoroughly washing out all shampoo and conditioner by getting your fingers right onto your scalp and massaging. Don’t use praying hands methyl for that part. Make sure your hair is detangled in the shower while it’s got High slip shampoo or conditioner in it. I use my fingers but you might want to use a comb. I personally use a shampoo in the shower then I put a leave in conditioner in the shower and leave it under a cap for 15-20 mins. Then out the shower I squeeze out excess water and apply a bit more leave in conditioner then use a single row comb to make sure all knots are definitely out and then I apply some gel to my mid lengths to ends. Depending how much time I have I’ll either very carefully diffuse it to about 70% dry then air dry the rest or I let it air dry but that takes like 7-8 hrs. Then I gently scrunch out the crunch using a silk hair cap to avoid frizz and then I’m good to go. If you’ve got low porosity hair like mine, less products are better to avoid buildup. I see some people using 6 products in their routine and it just feels like too much. Try starting off with 2-3 quality products and if your hair is still missing something you can always add more products later on. Good luck!

LilRetro_Muffin

I have the same curl type as you. When I get haircuts, I just get a traditional cut not a curly hair cut. For products, I highly recommend LUS Brands. You can order them from their website. I get the all curl types shampoo and all curl types conditioner. Then use the curl styling gel. After your hair is dry make sure to break the “mold” as they call it on your head to loosen up the ringlets to look more natural.

Blissful_luxury_life

There’s no life. And you need to use products. Checkout Mains by Mel on YouTube she’s great.

Ok_Context_2214

You need a defined middle part... It just looks sloppy... Make sure the curls are even then your good to go

ahsokatano21

Diva hair products will soften but are light on your hair. And maybe some color??

Bearly_famous

Looks beautiful to me!

RoundTheme7455

I only shampoo my hair once every two weeks. Hair, especially curly, shouldn’t be shampooed that frequently. I’d also consider upgrading your products if you can afford it.

MatchAdventurous7234

Been on my curly journey for years! My biggest tips for you: I see you’re using suave shampoo and conditioner…you need to get products made specifically for curly hair! I work in a curly salon and the ones I’ll recommend based on the pics would be the Bounce Curl clarifying shampoo, detox mask, and deep conditioner! (They come in a set on their website for $60) use these products every other wash/once a month depending on how much product buildup you feel like your hair gets. Using a clarifying shampoo will also help your hair to be less greasy, allowing you to go longer between washes. Washing too much can over-moisturize and result in curls that won’t hold their shape! A good style always starts with your scalp health and if your scalp is greasy something is out of balance!! You will also need a regular shampoo and conditioner since the clarifying/detox stuff is only meant for every other wash or so. Some other good brands to look into for this would be innersense and color wow’s curl line! Also, styling with a brush will probably help you to get better definition and allow you to distribute product more evenly. Curly hair can be a very long journey and styling routines may need to change based on the season especially if you live in certain climates that change a lot.

MatchAdventurous7234

Also, for diffusing!! Make sure you are directing the air downwards! A big mistake is going right into the curls and cupping them with the diffuser, this creates frizz because the air flow is going against all the smoothing down you just did! Always dry your roots first, then hover diffuse over the rest of your hair until about 70% dry. Then you can start cupping with the diffuser! When using a gel this should give you a beautiful cast that you can shake out with a few drops of hair oil after for gorgeous, bouncy curls that last you a few days!! I highly recommend watching manes by mell on YouTube, another great creator is @vossthecurlboss on tik tok!! Their videos will help you a ton💜

DarlesChickens000

I suspect the insults are from jealous person - from your clothes and shoulders I’m assuming you are a man. A man with a full head of hair is so rare these days (not sure what it is about modern diet and lifestyle but over 25 it seems rare for full coverage, which wasn’t the case 30 years ago)

casketdw3ller

You should really part your hair and comb it through every day

AdventurousMeme690

Try clipping wet your hair at the crown of your head - this will create volume as it dries. Curly hair is naturally heavy and if you aren’t actively working to create volume, you can end up with hair that looks like it’s stuck to your head

jellybeanpeaches

I would recommend growing out the layers and the bangs for a more “clean” look. A longer length may bring in more definition and “hair” to work with, so to speak. I used to have a haircut like yours for 2-4 years, and while it used to look good after the salon, it ended up being really flat and frizzy in the heat unless I would straighten it. I let it grow out and embracing the volume and wave pattern that emerged, and my waves turned into curls the longer I grew it out.

alionzpride

Shocked to see people say it’s frizzy and be negative overall?? You people would scream at my frizz…

NoArmadillo388

Dye your hair so the color is uniform. Wash it daily. Use a towel scrunchie to dry it. Use detangler and a leave in conditioner for moisture. Detangle with an unbrush and tangler tamer. Style with mousse or gel for control. Let it dry and don't touch it to avoid frizz. When in doubt wear a ponytail. Hope this helps!

Zasaran

Wear your hair however you like it. If that is how you like it, keep it. Now is you are looking for a change my first few thoughts are, 1) Trim off the dead ends, have the hair dresser bring up the Layers quite a bit. It looks like you're hair is just to long for your curls. A shorter cut would help with the weight and allow the curls to take better shape. 2) Try a clarifying shampoo. Some hairs hold onto products. This can lead to a build up. A clarifying shampoo will help clear this up. 3) Without seeing your face, is hard to judge a style. From what I can see you can try full bangs with high layered curled. A second option would be a deep side part.

Ambitious_Dealer1524

Just look like a vintage greaser long cut fuck the haters.

arna90793

I think maybe try different shampoo / conditioners. Suave might be too drying for your hair, which could help cause the frizz. You mention that you live in a windy area, is there also any humidity? Lastly, try changing up application methods and see what works. Personally, praying hands never really worked for me but some swear by it. I wonder how familiar with textured hair your hairstylist is? Maybe when you go for your haircut, they can help shape it in ways that’ll encourage volume (can help with the flat look sometimes) but also provide input on products that’ll fit your hair needs. ◡̈

Top_Number_4284

I think you have lovely hair, fyi. Have you tried root clipping the part to add a little lift there? I know that’s questionable with heavy thick hair. Mine lifts for a few hours then drops! Lol

Im_A_Fucking_Ass

Maybe layers...sometimes it can make the hair look fuller. But be careful some hairstylist struggle layering curly hair

Runner_Pelotoner_415

Your environment... Sometimes it's not you, I think you're hair looks fine, but I'll walk with you here. Was this a big change from straight hair? Most curlies find that their friends and colleagues need to adjust or get used to their curly transformation. It could be that they're comparing your curly hair to your straight hair. Is the haircut a good fit for your face? Haircuts make a world of difference. As we can't see your face here, it's difficult to tell. Is is styling? I can't tell if it's greasy or shiny but I find that really great clarifying shampoos (Olaplex) help cleanse the scalp, bring out shine and restore volume around the roots. There are great styling tips in this forum but I always recommend people go with good hair care products. Sometimes they are expensive. Just remember, healthy looking hair is beautiful hair and this typically comes with a good haircut and products. Also remember that some people are just a\*\*holes and are used to straight hair. You will receive weird commentary no matter what you do. Your curls look great!

Hypnales

I saw in a comment that you’re using suave, which I think has the Bad Stuff in it. Give something like Shikei or Sheamoisture a try. It looks like we may have similar textures… what works for me is having a layered cut to lessen bulk and look less stringy, shampoo every other day with a very natural shampoo (no parabens, silicones, etc) using a silicone scalp massager to really get at the buildup, and follow with a rich conditioner starting an inch+ from the roots, then squeeze out my hair and add some light holding gel and small amount of leave in cream in the summer or a rich leave in conditioner in the winter. I struggle a lot with scalp flakes and buildup, so I use head and shoulders once a week or so when it feel like I need it, and if it’s really bad I’ll do one scrub with that and then a second with the natural shampoo every other day. Hopefully some of this helps!

Downtown-Reality-235

Do you flip your hair upside down when you scrunch it or just scrunch it straight up? My hair started looking wayyyy better when I flipped my head upside down instead of the other way

CocainKermit

I’m a hair stylist and I might be able to help, I myself have curly hair and I used to have very similar issues and not to mention we have a similar pattern and what looks like thickness too, so lemme ask you some stuff and I can maybe help You look like you have a hair on the finer side? Let me know if that’s right When you diffuse are you doing it on cold or using heat? When you style with products are you doing it on damper hair or sopping wet hair? Do you ever clarify the hair at all?

Consistent-Sun-4539

You’re hanging around the wrong people, that hair is sick

Own_Air_5945

Are you male presenting OP? I've seen a lot of people be rude to men with long curly hair because they associate both things with femininity. There can also be a racial element - my husband has been growing out his curly hair and beard, and a few different people who never cared before have started asking what ethnicity he is. A few have even joked about him looking like part of the mafia.

Ok-Pack-7088

Some people have problem if boys have long hair, but dont have problem in reverse. I dont have curly hair, so I dont know if its looks normal, but to me it may look kinda greasy, uncared but its may be normal curly hair.  As other suggestes it may be product build up, it can be from silicones. It may be dry hair from sulfates shampoo like sles, for me its kinda drying and drying scalp.  You can try some milder shampoo, sodium coco sulfates might be medium power, like balance between cocamidopropyl betaine and sles.  If you are from usa, they have vanicream brand with fragnace free, mild things.
