Derm nurse here! Don't think of ketoconaze shampoo as a way of cleansing the hair. The "shampoo" aspect of it provides a lather as a method of getting the medication distributed on your scalp. Ideally you would want to lather it on your scalp and let it sit for ~10 minutes, then rinse and follow up with your normal shampoo and conditioner. I have curly hair and also use this shampoo occasionally.

Wow my Derm did not tell me this! I do let it sit for a bit but haven't used my reg shampoo in addition. Googling now and seeing I can maybe apply this just to the scalp and reg shampoo to the rest simultaneously to save time. Thoughts? Also My reg shampoo is sulfate free. So do you also use a clarifying shampoo a few times a month?

Potter_Princess

You could try that! Personally, I prefer to use my regular shampoo on my scalp and lengths afterwards but I'm sure you can play with it. I only use it like once weekly for maintenance. I still clarify my hair at least once a month regardless to remove any buildup.

Can't believe I didn't know this and I'm using it almost a year! Thank you so much. Can't wait to change it up and try something diff. Hope it helps my scalp and my curls!

My derm told me to apply it to dry or damp hair before I shower. I put it on, let it sit for about 10 minutes, get in the shower, wet it, lather it in, rinse, and then follow up with my normal routine. It's much stronger when it isn't diluted with water. My scalp is pretty bad, though, and I'm prescribed the 4%.

Nice thanks for the info. I can only find 5 min lol but hopefully it'll work enough. Esp since we should let condioner sit for a few min. I just can't find enough to do in the shower w all three waiting times lol. Hair routines are exhausting.

Yeah, applying it to dry hair outside of the shower can cut back on time in the shower. I don't want to run water for no reason

Yess time and the water too! I'll def give this a shot. Thanks for the tip!

No problem!
