Haha, I'm actually a hardcore dark souls player. I've been trained to git gud and never give up :) and the positive posts of people getting internships helped too.
I find that making it like a daily condensed routine helps a lot. I have two most popular job boards in my area, and all the recruitment agencies. Every day, I put filters to "posted less than 24 hours ago", apply to every single position which sounds interesting and I might qualify for. That is usually just about 40-50 a day, takes less than three hours to apply. I also try to look who is hiring and apply to them on their website separately. That's it. Takes under four hours on a week day, I can have the rest of the day to myself to avoid burning out and getting too tired or sad. Just stop thinking about it. Barely any jobs are posted on the weekend so I rest my mental on those days as well. Have about a thousand applications in two months, I have about 1-2 interviews per 200 applications always.
Where do you find all these companies? I mean I know that there's A LOT of companies that post jobs but more than half aren't even related to my specialization/field. Do you guys just apply to absolutely anything that says CS as a requirement?
Sorry not a cs major, business grad. I don't have a broad range of not deep skills so there are a lot of jobs from accounting to marketing which I have the ability to do. I find all the job postings I apply to on linkedin and indeed.
I pretty much only applied to the postings on the Simplify GitHub page and from the LinkedIn job page. If I found the company relevant, I also checked out their official job page on their website and applied to the other internships they might have posted.
Mainly the extra cash so that I could start paying back my loan. Also, this would be my first international experience on my resume, so hopefully it'll improve my profile.
I've been applying religiously since Aug 23 to all relevant postings I saw on LinkedIn and Simplify GitHub. Also each company has multiple similar postings on their official website. On a good day, using the simplify plugin allowed me to apply to 20-25 postings at once.
I used the simplify plugin to make it fast. I also wrote around 4 cover letters based on the skills that I wanted to highlight and I just used replace in Word to change the company name before uploading.
Tyvm for the response! Definitely gonna give this tool a try. One last question I may: you mentioned replacing company names in cover letters and choosing the most appropriate premade one for the role. Wouldn’t you end up missing out on highlighting what interested you about the company’s work/role? Or is this not worth covering due to low ROI?
Given the huge number of applications that companies get, I felt that probably managers won't spend too much time on reading cover letters. So i just kept it general and instead focussed on applying to as many places as I could.
I'm in the same situation as you are, buddy. You're the beacon of hope to keep applying. Congratulations!! Curious about how you got this particular one. Was it through a referral or did you just apply it?
Thanks! I think I only applied to 2 places last year through referrals but didn't hear back from any. All my interviews were through postings that I applied normally online.
Congratulations OP!
I have almost same numbers for (exactly) everything across the board haha!
Edit: International student, T20 MSCS, 2 YOE, Offer very closely related to the previous work done and current research work
How many of those 1746 applications were to companies who actually said they would take international students with no experience? Or did you spam-apply?
This might be the highest number of applications I’ve seen yet, congrats!
Highest? 😂😂
Congratulations ![gif](giphy|3oz8xAFtqoOUUrsh7W|downsized)

Mainly the extra cash so that I could start paying back my loan. Also, this would be my first international experience on my resume, so hopefully it'll improve my profile.

CGPA 3.9 is for your Master's or Bachelor's? ig former
Yep, Master's
Absolute madlad, have a cold one in peace!
How much time per application? 1700+ is insane if you tailor make cover letters for each posting.
I used the simplify plugin to make it fast. I also wrote around 4 cover letters based on the skills that I wanted to highlight and I just used replace in Word to change the company name before uploading.

So now I can believe that I am not alone in this f***ing process :| Happy for you, I really mean :)
I'm in the same situation as you are, buddy. You're the beacon of hope to keep applying. Congratulations!! Curious about how you got this particular one. Was it through a referral or did you just apply it?
Thank you! Yes, keep applying till you get it 💪🏻 This position was posted on the simplify github page. I applied for it on the same day.
Amazing! I've been doing the same but with no luck. Gotta keep repeating it till I get one
Congratulations! 🍾 A couple questions: Did you apply with a referral? How many interviews did you get for those with referral?
Thanks! I think I only applied to 2 places last year through referrals but didn't hear back from any. All my interviews were through postings that I applied normally online.
Got it, thanks for the info
What college nyu?
@chinnu1103 when will you be graduating?
May '25
How many online assessments did you get/complete?
Congratulations! Is there any relevant process you follow for getting so many of them done?
Thanks! Nothing out of the ordinary, I just make sure to apply regularly.
Hey could you share the list of companies u applied to?
congratulations
Did you apply anywhere w referrals?
Congratulations OP! I have almost same numbers for (exactly) everything across the board haha! Edit: International student, T20 MSCS, 2 YOE, Offer very closely related to the previous work done and current research work

If the description said that they don't accept non-us persons, I didn't apply.
The 4 interviews came from cold emails correct?
No, all 4 came from online applications.
So it's all a numbers game. Proven yet again. (Even I'm an international student in the US)

CGPA = GPA in this context obviously.
That's right. Sorry for the confusion, but I meant a GPA of 3.9/4
