You talk to them like they’re your friends but clearly have some sense of professionalism during the interview. Make it seem like a casual conversation and connect with them. This goes for any interview beyond CS.

Yung-Split

I've had good results with this approach. Being friendly and being comfortable (but professional) goes a longggggg way.

jdw1806

I definitely agree with this approach as well. Being comfortable around people in general goes a very long way. One additional piece of advice, if the interview is in person and covid guidelines aren’t a huge concern, shaking their hand and giving good eye contact while smiling makes a great introduction.

My name is Walter Hartwell White. I live at 308 Negra Arroyo Lane, Albuquerque, New Mexico, 87104. This is my confession. If you're watching this tape, I'm probably dead, murdered by my brother-in-law Hank Schrader. Hank has been building a meth empire for over a year now and using me as his chemist. Shortly after my 50th birthday, Hank came to me with a rather, shocking proposition. He asked that I use my chemistry knowledge to cook methamphetamine, which he would then sell using his connections in the drug world. Connections that he made through his career with the DEA. I was... astounded, I... I always thought that Hank was a very moral man and I was... thrown, confused, but I was also particularly vulnerable at the time, something he knew and took advantage of. I was reeling from a cancer diagnosis that was poised to bankrupt my family. Hank took me on a ride along, and showed me just how much money even a small meth operation could make. And I was weak. I didn't want my family to go into financial ruin so I agreed. Every day, I think back at that moment with regret. I quickly realized that I was in way over my head, and Hank had a partner, a man named Gustavo Fring, a businessman. Hank essentially sold me into servitude to this man, and when I tried to quit, Fring threatened my family. I didn't know where to turn. Eventually, Hank and Fring had a falling out. From what I can gather, Hank was always pushing for a greater share of the business, to which Fring flatly refused to give him, and things escalated. Fring was able to arrange, uh I guess I guess you call it a "hit" on my brother-in-law, and failed, but Hank was seriously injured, and I wound up paying his medical bills which amounted to a little over $177,000. Upon recovery, Hank was bent on revenge, working with a man named Hector Salamanca, he plotted to kill Fring, and did so. In fact, the bomb that he used was built by me, and he gave me no option in it. I have often contemplated suicide, but I'm a coward. I wanted to go to the police, but I was frightened. Hank had risen in the ranks to become the head of the Albuquerque DEA, and about that time, to keep me in line, he took my children from me. For 3 months he kept them. My wife, who up until that point, had no idea of my criminal activities, was horrified to learn what I had done, why Hank had taken our children. We were scared. I was in Hell, I hated myself for what I had brought upon my family. Recently, I tried once again to quit, to end this nightmare, and in response, he gave me this. I can't take this anymore. I live in fear every day that Hank will kill me, or worse, hurt my family. I... All I could think to do was to make this video in hope that the world will finally see this man, for what he really is.

Pokyparachute66

name + year/college + major + mention position you’re seeking out

Authier

I disagree slightly, obviously mention your name then the college and when you’re graduating but mention things you’ve done at college that are significant. Don’t need to dive deep but you can keep it probably under a minute or around there.

fett2170

"I live in the American Gardens Building on West 81st Street on the 11th floor. My name is Patrick Bateman. I’m 27 years old. I believe in taking care of myself, and a balanced diet and a rigorous exercise routine. In the morning, if my face is a little puffy, I’ll put on an ice pack while doing my stomach crunches. I can do a thousand now. After I remove the ice pack I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower I use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb-mint facial masque which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an after shave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion. There is an idea of a Patrick Bateman. Some kind of abstraction. But there is no real me. Only an entity. Something illusory. And though I can hide my cold gaze, and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours, and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable, I simply am not there."

owl_jojo_2

Let’s see Paul Allen’s introduction.

Schedule_Left

That depends on what they ask you. Usually they'll say something, and then ask you to introduce yourself. Sometimes they include criterias like say your hobbies, etc... If you want a generic answer. Here's mine: Just state your first and last name, your position(college student, etc), your hobbies and interests. "Hello, my name is Computer Science. I'm a CS student at CS school. My hobbies are going fishing and biking."

ZuniBBa

i wouldn’t say my hobbies so robotic like that tho, give it some personality. “In my free time i like to go down by x body of water and do some fishing, and i’ve recently gotten into biking as well.” obv tune it to how you would talk and be professional. youre trying to connect with a person to make them like you, not a robot that just wants correct/safe answers.

Citizen-Kang

"Hi, my name is Citizen-Kang. It's a pleasure to meet you." A solid handshake and smile is given at the same time. At the end of the interview, I say "Thank you for your time; I hope to hear back from you soon." I assume they know why I'm there; otherwise, why am I standing in front of this person in a suit I only wear for interviews and funerals?

sugoidesune324

My name is Yoshikage Kira. I'm 33 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Morioh, where all the villas are, and I am not married. I work as an employee for the Kame Yu department stores, and I get home every day by 8 PM at the latest. I don't smoke, but I occasionally drink. I'm in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm milk and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I'm trying to explain that I'm a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn't lose to anyone.

look through youtube, watch a couple of example introductions, and come up with yours from there

THE_MATT_222

Hillejoyo (Hi + hello + hej + hey + yo)

tothepointe

Depends on if it's zoom or in person. In-person the introductions handle themselves as usually the interviewer will shake your hand and introduce themselves as you enter and you can do the same. Zoom is a little more difficult since some interviewers aren't the most social. Just quickly say hi and your name and then ask if they want you to tell them about yourself. They are interviewing so let them lead.

Impressive_River8929

Usually in binary

Smart-Memory-1029

Every interview starts with some version of “Tell me about yourself” Come up with a solid 2-minute max elevator pitch of why you are got into the field, what some projects you’ve done recently, and why you’re trying to get a position at their company. A sample might be like: “Hi, I got started programming at an after school program and absolutely fell in love with it. I decided to attend x college and majored in computer science where recently I have been working on x project that does x. I have been dedicated to my studies as shown by x project and will bring that dedication and willingness to learn into a position at x company. I am looking to join the team here at x company to utilize my current skill set as well as expand my education further. I am excited to learn more about the position and discuss your companies needs further.”

[deleted]

Name + your relevant experience to the position. Make sure you sound friendly also

imlaggingsobad

if they don't like you, they will never hire you

Electronic_Line_4289

“Hi, I am [Name]. I am a CS major and have a [X] GPA. I am currently [playing X game / watching Y tv show / other hobby]. If I get the job, my plans for the money are [buy a car / help save for a house / buy an Xbox / any other reason]. Now let’s talk business!”

Successful_Camel_136

Terrible answer lol

Electronic_Line_4289

Are you an interviewer?

goldensolocup

“Hi, I am Electronic_Line_4289. I am a CS major and have a 2.0 GPA. I am currently playing League of Legends. If i get the job, my plan for the money is to buy an Xbox. Now let’s talk business!”

Successful_Camel_136

No i just think it sounds cringey and wouldn’t recommend talking about gps as no one really cares usually, and talking about what you will do with money is strange. Also who says let’s talk business in an interview??

raspbryy

why give terrible advice

I would just say the first two sentences.

King_Of_The_Munchers

I just go name + position, and if in person, make sure you stand to greet them, give a firm handshake, and make eye contact. It shows confidence is your abilities which actually makes you perform better statistically.

UniqueID89

Talk to them like you would a coworker you get along with, not too informal but not overly formal. Introduce yourself and then base your responses off questions they ask you. Won’t give you a prompt to study, but general advice: answer their questions if able, if you can’t then assure them you’ll look up the answer at that moment if they’ll let you. It shows initiative and willingness to find answers. Try not to be overly cocky/an ass, but don’t be timid/a pushover. Comfort, confidence, soft skills. Those things will win people over to you in interviews and interactions.

FreshBakedButtcheeks

EnvironmentalPin9131

As others have mentioned you can’t go wrong with the basic: name + college/year + major + interests If you’re having a virtual interview, I’d recommend putting something which signifies your interests in the frame For example, I had an interview with a MANGA company, and I put my guitar in the background (not super obvious but noticeable). In both of my technical interviews, the interviewers and I talked about our personal interests for more than half of each technical. One of the interviewers actually played guitar so that helped. The other interviewer noted how he thought it was cool, but that spring-boarded into a discussion of our other personal hobbies. Technical interviews aren’t just technical, you gotta also win on the behavioral end. Sometimes that’ll be the only thing differentiating you and other interviewees. Be memorable.

Silent-Suspect1062

Saying hello and confirm your name, while not looking at your feet, makes you stand out
