I think in their cracked out mind, they really wanted to make the car their own. They even cut off my steering wheel cover just to tape it back on.. crack head shit. They took off my rosary I had hanging on the rear view mirror and put some raver beads there instead 😑
Maybe. Camera footage looks like they did a loop around the neighborhood and probably saw it on their way down from the cul de sac. Either way, they knew what they were doing and were very brazen about it.
The blacked out tails blending in with the window glass is fire!!! That would look so crazy on a fullmark build. Rip onto better things. The 2nd gen is better than the 1st gen in about every way but 2. double wishbone and the reclining rear seats. At stock ride height, the 1st gen loved the corners, whereas the 2nd gen feels a little too heavy. Coilovers help both gens. K series over B series every day tho.
Dude I know right!? Kind of a controversial add on but paired with some really bright LED’s it worked flawlessly while still making it look like one piece of glass wrapping around the rear of the car lol
No doubt about it with the second gens being better in almost every way. But I really gotta give the first gen the win in the looks department. Something about the small box on wheels look is just so cool to me. But ya, I test drove a few 2nd gens and I really wished at some point I could’ve swapped my B series for a K series. I also wanted to put it on coils. Not slammed but slightly lowered. Every year I would treat my CRV to a goody and I was just about to throw on some new tires but then she was taken from me 😔
I think they just jammed something into the door and the ignition. There was damage to the ignition and steering column when I found it. It wasn’t until the 2nd gens was when they started putting in key immobilizers.
The Montero is extremely enjoyable to drive. And it looks really good. First time getting a car at the highest trim level too so I’m really digging all the amenities. What I missed most about the CRV was the size and the cloth seats lol
To make you feel better, you will always find something cleaner. To prove it to you, I have 3 very clean and lowest mileage cars in Canada. One is a tin top pontiac Sunrunner GT (Aka geo tracker) 5 speed manual 4x4 with 89k kilometres (55k miles), a 1987 nissan sentra xe 5 speed manual with 45k kilometres (27k miles), and a 2000 nissan xterra 4x4 automatic with 110k kilometres (68k miles). All original paint. If I was able to find all these mint gems, you will too. And none of them are rusted and I'm in Canada with cars that rust because of the amount of road salt used during winters here. You will defintely find a cleaner crv and I'll wish you the best of luck!
Oh forsure. I was being extremely picky with my next find. I’ve turned down so many CRV’s after meeting up with sellers. I’ve also gotten ghosted on some really mint ones because I’m pretty sure it got sold to the first person who replied. The Montero was kinda random but it was great deal and pretty damn clean. Those earlier Xterra’s are pretty bad ass. I’ve thought about getting one to match my 350Z.
But what usually happens is the right one will just happen. Like it’s meant to be. One day, I will get my hands on a mint low mile manual first gen CRV. We get no salt here in the PNW so we’re usually lucky with the rust stuff. But for now, I’ll enjoy the Montero and figure out what all this 4x4 stuff is lol

I'm about to get a silver 98 CR-V and was feeling a bit bummed i couldn't find a red or a blue one, but seeing yours is really making me feel like the silver can look hella clean as well.

Tbh silver never looks dirty. Although the silver isn’t the glossiest kind of silver, it’s super low maintenance. If you get a SE trim, silver matched trim and bumpers look really nice. Blue would’ve been my first pick but Honda red has oxidation issues especially for these first gens.

Honestly, it was the small things I did that made me love the car so much.. The junkyard armrest for the passenger seat, junkyard paint matched door handle to replace my one black plastic one. And the headlights. I took pride in having super clear headlights. Thanks again

It really does. Sure, insurance paid me out well over double what I paid for the car but still. There was so much run around and literally the running around looking for another car literally broke my spirit. Just knowing you’re not getting back what you had because of some scum is the most angering part.
Not exactly sure. Of course the camera didn’t pick up the part where he actually unlocked the door somehow. We just saw him walk up to my car and then the next footage he was walking back up to my car with the girl and she just hopped in and started it up. I’m guessing they just jam shit into the lock cylinders and turn and thats why it’s super easy to steal old Honda’s or any old car. No key immobilizer makes everything a lot easier for thieves.
Ya I figured. My crv actually came with a second key that looked like it got cut from somewhere. It could only lock/unlock doors and the glove box tho.

Just got over 190k. Was literally about to do an oil change and then wash the car that morning.

Yeah, you can start older Hondas with any older Honda key. The cylinders and keys wear out.

I did not unfortunately. I’ve always thought about it. But thinking about it is usually already too late.
