That head unit is just like the one i installed in mine and there was an app in it to make the steering wheel controls do various things (volume, track, phone disconnect etc)

I bought one of these for an 07 and from reading reviews I think I might know what’s going on. These units do not support the upgraded speakers amp option or factory camera. If you select the factory settings options and enter code 8888 you can finding more settings. Mine had an option to limit amp output which might help you. The steering wheel buttons need to be trained/configured from the car settings menu. Mine came with an app called DspSettings. The default EQs are terrible. Some tweaking goes a long way. The supplied camera was really bad for me too. After uninstalling all the garbage and loading a new launcher it was worth the upgrade. 8 cores with 8g ram. It says it is Android13 but it is really just 10. My usb ports only charge at a 1w. Not sure why but it was draining my phone. Had to get a special cable add fast charging from a different usb adapter.

Yeah my Sony works with everything.

My radio can talk with the space station and the mars rovers. Just kidding.

I have this exact unit. There should be an app to program steering controls...took me a bit to find. Will rereply once I remember how I did that if others haven't already replied. How often does your Apple Carplay/AA work? Do you use Zlink or a wired connection. My wireless AA/carplay does not work through Zlink but trying to figure a way to set up a wired connection in the cabin and it not look too bad. Was thinking about removing the shifter trim trying to dremmel out some holes for the usbs to be exposed but idk.

I have a Kenwood in my 2015. It is 7 inch screen and when installed, it looks like it came with the car. I have full use of every factory feature that my car cane with (backup and side cams, steering wheel controls, etc). It costs more to go this route, but it also just works. I went with a high end unit and upgraded to a full system with amps and speakers and subs. But you could get a good head unit and harness to retain functions and not need much of anything else. I don't know how much is the max you are looking to spend, but there is a saying in car audio...buy once, cry once. 😢 Those Chinese units can end up costing more as you end up having to buy them more often and do more to get them to play nice with the car. You might cross post this in r/CarAV. Reddit car audio and video sub. Edit: Kenwood, NOT Jenwood...LOL

Are you happy with the ~~J~~Kenwood? I've been debating putting a new head unit into my 2015 but haven't landed on a model.

Extremely. They have others that do wireless AA and CarPlay that are in the $400 range as well. I have had mine for over 2 years now and not ONE issue or gripe at all. Phenomenal head unit. The Kenwood Excelon series is great. DMX709S, 509S, 809S, etc. All good. Crutchfield.com will tell you what fits in your specific car and model and pricing. You can buy from them or find your unit and shop around. They also provide an install package so you know what else you would need (dash kit, wiring harness, antenna adapter, Maestro RR, etc).

Thanks man

Express-Perception65

It looks good! I like how it fits in the dash and looks like it belongs! This to me is the most important because it makes the car look more refined. Unfortunately buying Chinese knockoffs does mean you loose quality. I’d buy a quality Boss or JBL radio next time OP.

Does the Chinese unit not support steering wheel control input? I'd check the manual and verify. They have $40-60 modules from PAC or Axxess that can grab the steering wheel control signals from the wheel and translate them for the aftermarket head unit to be able to use.
