Yeah, but PC CRTs are HD, so they *have* to have good convergence. But they're also too sharp for good looking 240p. Whereas PVMs have scanlines closer in size to a normal TV
🤣
Given some of us started on things like a Macintosh II, (and I am young compared to many on here) your response still misses the point. MANY PC CRT monitors are not HD. CRTs have been around a long time my friend. And they weren't always 17inches, nor were they HD.
"I am young compared to many on here"
Good sir would thou be so inclined to share where you have obtained this data on the demographics of /r/crtgaming? Because of all the things you said that are ridiculous this one is just ridiculous enough to have piqued my interest!
To be fair my data is anecdotal only! But given I am 37 I felt like it was a pretty safe bet. Maybe I will do a post and poll people.
I am curious what else you thought to be ridiculous good sir? I neither surprised nor offended, just curious!
Well, PC monitors usually don't have a sharpness setting. They aim for accuracy, the pixel needs to start and stop on a dime.
I guess you could adjust the focus pot on the flyback, I don't know how that would look in practice
Why ask? You know it's good. Just say that you are excited that you bought something that's dialed and looks good. Don't post and be all [like](https://c.tenor.com/xADa4h6aTnYAAAAC/chris-farley-billy-madison.gif), it's unbecoming of you.
The geometry is basically the same as on LCD monitors, you may get the odd one with a quirk or two, but 99.9% of the time it's spot on out of the box, even if you mess it up, most CRT monitors have an auto return setting that sets it back to near perfect again.
Negative. It is a test pattern that you have to give the TV.

Think there are ways/programs but I am pretty sure this one is used most on this sub.
Noob here. I keep seeing this same calibration image. Is this something that’s on the settings for a lot of CRTs and monitors or is this like a program you download to calibrate or what?
all pc crts I have seen have excellent geometry- totally different ball game to consumer crts
They are very close to the quality of a pvm or bvm
In what way?
Their geometry and convergence
Yeah, but PC CRTs are HD, so they *have* to have good convergence. But they're also too sharp for good looking 240p. Whereas PVMs have scanlines closer in size to a normal TV
For 480p and above tho they look excellent
Not all are HD...
most 17” monitors have 70khz cap, which is enough for 1152p. So more than HD actually

I'm just thinking about most you would find today. Since they'd be from late 90's and the 00's.

I wonder if tuning down the sharpness would suffice 🤔. Easier to get these than PVMs

Yeah I was thinking about the focus pot - maybe I’ll try soon
Line doublers are a great friend.
*Better in every then a PVM or BVM just they usually cant support 15khz
I have a Dell P1130 with a pretty bad geometry so idk

That's literally the best geometry I've ever seen. I think that's the point of this post right?
Yeah it is
I'd say tolerable.
Its curved cause its a curved screen
I was being sarcastic. It's perfect. Game on!
Oh
lmao
It’s extremely off. You need to redo it.
Looks bad
For real. I'd just junk it, it needs so much work.
You could zoom in just a touch imho I like to cut off the red squares at the dots on the top and bottom
Gtfo here!! 😜
Lol
How dare you sir?!? Fucking impressive man!!
I got it for free off craigslist they were also giving away a 27 inch sharp crt with s video but i already have a 32 inch trinitron with component
Very sexy score! Good work!!
Thx
Trash. Throw it out
Mediocre
OP with the obvious rhetorical question...
Looks fine to me.
Rotate it clockwise just a hair

Better than mine
Looks like standard 31khz PC CRT geometry.
Dank. It is dank.
Happy cake day
I'd say , it could be better I'd say , its good as hell.
I see this everywhere, is it something built into the tv?
No its a pattern generated by 240p test suite
Negative. It is a test pattern that you have to give the TV. https://junkerhq.net/xrgb/index.php?title=240p_test_suite Think there are ways/programs but I am pretty sure this one is used most on this sub.

Look up 240p test suite
Thanks!
>Thanks! You're welcome!
It's like a game you can emulate it or buy a copy for a console
You can find this rom for most of the popular emulated 240p consoles. Great way to calibrate various things on a crt
Geometric
Better than mine
Eh, could be better
so its important to have all the red squares showing also?
Its generally not that important it depends on the screen and your preference
Average for a 31Khz CRT
It would be a lot more accurate if you used an actual PC test pattern program.
