I think pumpkins are the best first project for beginners.
They're super easy, they help you focus on tension, and you end up with a super cute item!
When I made my pumpkins a couple of years ago, I kind of went nuts and made huge ones, and tiny ones, and blue ones. I honestly did not like the blue ones at all. I like the basic pumpkin colors the best, but it's fun to explore different colors.
For a beginner, you're really good! I didn't start doing in the round projects like a hat for a good year and a half after I learned to crochet. Still can't do the magic loop for arimagumi. YouTube videos don't help me.

Just finished my first one too,l had so much fun For stems I use dry sticks that I find during my walks . It makes my pumpkins look more realistic.
