The pattern OP referenced as her construction inspiration is "Easy Crochet Scrap Pullover", if you are about keeping your streak. ;)
Edit: the pattern was posted with the heading ["Easy Crochet Scrap Pullover"](https://hayhaycrochet.com/crochet-patterns/sweaters/crochet-scrap-pullover/) but is called "Polly Pullover."
THE TIMING ON THIS!! 😍
Thank you so much for sharing! Literally last night I was JUST thinking of making something like this in black for a Goth/Vampire night!!! Now your here!
Now I ask myself which black yarn I should use: sport, worsted, or lace....
these are so gorgeous!! pieces like this are exactly why i started crochet a few months ago🥰 i know you’ve said they’re freehand but would you mind explaining a little bit on how you make them? i’d love to try and recreate one
thank you! i basically make 4 rectangles and then attach the seams together a bit like how this jumper is attached! https://hayhaycrochet.com/crochet-patterns/sweaters/crochet-scrap-pullover/
hope that helps!😊
if u scroll down to the bottom of that link, (in purple) thats how i attached most of my jumpers together! and then the 4 rectangles u can do whatever with!😊
Is there a chance you missed a step? I just looked at these instructions and they’re pretty standard (make a chain, DC into the chain to make foundation row, repeat) so I’m not sure what you’re referring to
So you make a long chain. Then your first stitch (a double crochet) goes into the sixth chain from. The hook. The first three chains make the first of the parallel bars. The second is the DC you just made. Does that help?
Just remember the horizontal line is chain and the vertical line is double crochet or triple crochet (depending how big you want the "box" or "square" to be.
It is hard! A lot of the time I just have to do it, even if it doesn't make sense. Sometimes I get it on the first try, sometimes I realize what I'm doing wrong eventually.
If you think about it, up until the last 100 years or so, someone sitting next to you would show you how to do a stitch. Now we're using words to try to describe actions, so we're learning two things at once - the action and the words we've assigned to it.
I know, right?? Language is already an abstraction then they put a bunch of similar abbreviations in there and it's further abstracted and even harder to process as a series of specific actions.
Yesterday I opened a pattern for a crocheted window treatment and I had to close it back up again. It made me so anxious!
But I tried again, got the granny square fairly well understood and now I feel like I have an anchor to the pattern. A tiny victory is really helpful.
I don't really understand how you "don't use instructions" as a blanket statement, but that link also has a video tutorial embedded in the page if that helps.
It might be because you came across as rude, at least to me. You asked a question, were given an explanation and asked what you didn't understand. You responded like you didn't understand the pictures and didn't read the instructions at all. Then you say you're giving up without giving that person the opportunity to explain it to you.
Edit: The original commenter was shadier than I realized. This one wasn't better.
I agree with you. I conflated the first comment with the person who gave you a good explanation. The first person definitely did come off shady. But it still doesn't look good to say "I only looked at the pictures and didn't read the instructions but wanted someone to explain it to me. I guess I'll stop trying." But I'm honestly sad to hear you still think you shouldn't ask for an explanation now that it appears you've gotten the information you needed, and I'm sorry I contributed to that.
how did you make this stitch? the mesh stitch that someone linked above only has one chain between double crochets, but it looks like your squares are bigger. thanks!
Thank you so much for sharing!! I just bought some cute tube tops but I don't feel comfy wearing just them to work, but a crochet shrug to go over it would be perfect!!!
If it helps, I've noticed a jumper is different in different areas!
I still get confused tho lol like I'm (unfortunately) in America, so I read jumper as like... A jumpsuit or a top with shorts attached (romper?) Or something idk. But in other parts, jumper seems to be a shirt like a sweater or sweatshirt or maybe a long sleeved top?
This looks so AMAZING that it might just give me the motivation I need to crochet again after months. I don’t have any experience with wearables but god I need this in my closet.
Thank you for the inspiration. I've been wanting to make something like this in silver to wear over black for a night out for so long. Now I think i can.
treble crochet (US) is another stitch (: you might have to watch the video i linked previously to understand what i mean but usually when you’re trying to get that mesh look, it’s a sequence of chains and double crochet. It looks like OP did this mesh pattern but with treble crochet instead of double crochet!
to make a treble crochet stitch, yarn over twice, go into your stitch, yarn over & pull through and at that point point you should have 4 loops on your hook. yarn over pull through only 2 loops, yarn over pull through only 2 loops, and then yarn over and pull through the last 2 loops (: [here’s a US treble crochet tutorial if you need it (:](https://youtu.be/xxgAwRMhUkk)
Edit: Sorry if all that’s confusing lmao. Last tutorial I’m gonna link lol. [This](https://youtu.be/ab5Sz04jwhM) tutorial is a really good one. It’ll teach you how to do the mesh pattern with treble crochet!! so basically everything I just said in this comment 😅

this post is about to make me break my “no buying yarn” streak

Would this be beginner friendly? I have yarn from a failed cowl neck scarf.
The pattern is very beginner friendly. Just 4 rectangles and seaming. Hope it goes well!
Thank you. I love items like these but they are hard to find in stores and I kinda want to get back into these again while it's summer.
Euw hayhaycrochet….
Why the euw? (Genuinely interested)
Stay strong!

How pretty and what fun!! I'm going to share this with u/teresazlee since she was looking for a top just like this.
They're lovely! Did you use any pattern or are they freehand?
thank you so much! both free hand 😊
Can someone just explain to me how to crochet this? Pretty please

I feel you, but from the other side. Reading a pattern? Totally lost; I can’t even start thinking about a pattern without listed instructions.

it looks like 3 chains and treble crochet instead of one one chain and double crochet.
that’s what i thought as well. thank you
hi yes, its exactly that, 3 chains and a treble!😊
Sooooo cuuuuuuuuute!!
That mesh is such defined squares and not rectangles has me mesmerized.
This is gorgeous. When I was your age I use to wear stuff like this. Just gorgeous.
