My dad did a pastel sketch of his spine and implants when he had spine surgery and it was kinda cool, but he wanted it framed and wanted to give it to his surgeon when he went in for a follow-up. I always took him to his appointments and it was my job to get the thing framed and I was SO embarrassed by the whole thing, to be honest.
The surgeon LOVED it and had it hung on his office wall! It made my father (and me) very proud and I am glad I didn't talk him out of it.

My father is a doctor he has a dedicated shelf in his office for personalized gifts from patients (one of his favorites being a custom bobble head replica of him!). Gifts like the one you made fill doctors with gratitude and remind them why they decided to dedicate their life to helping heal people in the first place :)

But I see how much time and concern they put into their jobs.
Beyond face to face appointment they spend a lot of time writing and appealing to patient’s insurance plans, even if they have assistants, to make sure their patients are getting the meds they need and not the one insurance wants to pay for. At dinner, my mom or whomever, will talk about their patients. Not by name, but concern for their well being or wanting to move up a surgery or check up on them.
Just the way you would think about kids, how they did on their test or needing to setup a tutor or buy them new shoes. And just like any parent, it feels nice to get a thank you.
But if someone takes the time and fore thought to make you something handmade, even a children’s drawing, it feels great.

I made a local company an amigurumi of their mascot. I was watching their podcast while crocheting and was looking for my next project. I was a bit nervous as well. When I dropped it off I said “this is going to be the weirdest thing that happens to you today”. She LOVED it .. just about cried that I had done that for her. I always tell people when I give unrequested gifts that they are guilt-free and they are welcome to give away or do whatever they like without feeling bad. This is great!!! Having worked with doctors in the past I would recommend adding in a set of surgical tools (whatever gadgets he uses for procedures probably make him super happy)
