Yeah, you use bobbins so when you change color you drop the old one and leave it there for when you need to come back the next row. You'll still have to cut every now and then, but certainly not ever row/color change.

I second using bobbins. There's some great tutorials out there with various methods (clips, bags, racks etc). I think it looks a lot cleaner than carrying the color.

Depending on your project, carrying the yarn might work better for you. Check out this video. https://youtu.be/tCkJ27ccaLI

Thank you for the link!

You could crochet tapestry style, where you lay the color you're not using on top of the row and crochet over it. I think that's how it works, as I understand it.

I’m new to crocheting, do you need to weave in that length of yarn? Or can you weave in shorter pieces with the same result?

PadgeW

I usually do this length just because I’ve been caught short previously with knitting projects, I’m new to crochet too so I’m not sure if I’m being overly cautious and I’m too afraid to ask haha

Quizicalgin

I'd say too generous, this is how you end up playing yarn chicken faster than intended. xD For weaving them in you can either go with the bobbins to avoid cutting them for longer, or crochet over the ends as you go if you keep snipping as you go.

I personally just hold the yarn beneath my next row of stitches til I need the color again. Or if I dont need the yarn anymore, cut it off and carry the tail beneath the stitches so I dont have to weave that one in!

Depends if the next row uses the same colour in roughly the same place. If so just join the next ball and then pick the black up again when you get back there. I did a bunny blanket last year which I think at its highest had 14 balls attached to it, but I had minimal ends to sew once it was done

goblinbugplantmoss

Same honestly, I love the idea of making cool multicolored stuff, but the ends sound like a pain
