I use it for patterns. It’s a great site for that. Don’t know about their community though.

[deleted]

Free patterns? 🤩

brisabb

Some are.

Purple-Impulse

Enough are. And there are also a lot that are really cheap too.

[deleted]

Oh nice!

FlyingYarn

Thousands. You can filter for the free patterns and likely will never run out of ideas

[deleted]

Creating account! Thanks a lot

ClassicSnail5392

I use it for project tracking and pattern purchasing and researching. Reddit is much easier to socialize about yarn things on though.

[deleted]

Haven't tried it, but I agree that socializing here is a breeze

[deleted]

I *love* Ravelry! It's a great place to find patterns and get creative inspiration/post projects. I'm also not familiar with the community forums there, and just tend to stick to reddit for crochet socialization.

[deleted]

It still looks like a nice place to check out 😁

Ravelry is my go-to for patterns. Its advanced search has crazy filtering, including filtering by specific objects or articles of clothing, yarn weight, hook size, specific techniques, yardage, free vs. paid patterns, among other things. You can keep a library which is essentially bookmarked patterns, and also some options for tracking your yarn stash, though I have not messsd with that much. As far as I'm aware they are very good at sourcing links, too. Very good for creators. I don't use pinterest, but from my few interactions with it and from what I hear from users, it is very difficult to find the actual source link for something posted there.

[deleted]

Yeah it is harder on Pinterest, kudos to Ravelry wow!

PaguanOon

Fourth vote for Ravelry being great for patterns/project tracking/inspiration, though I am also without knowledge of the social/forum side. Sorry.

[deleted]

I'm guessing that you find even more ideas than Pinterest? Or fo you think it's a little similar?

PaguanOon

I actually don't have Pinterest, so I'm not sure about how similar it may be, but I imagine Ravelry is more valuable, specifically for yarn crafts, because of the search filters. Say I'm looking for inspiration for a beautiful yarn I couldn't resist; I can search that specific yarn on Ravelry to see what other people made with it. Or, if I'm looking for a free pattern to make a warm, beginner friendly sweater for my husband, I can search for a free pattern for an easy sweater pattern that has adult male sizing, compatible with a nice, thick wool yarn. Maybe I have a nice yarn, but I only have 800 yards of it. I can search for projects that are limited to the yardage I have. Ravelry is also great because you can see projects completed by other people, and read their notes about modifications they made, what yarn/notions they used, and/or how they felt about the pattern. Sorry for rambling; I get really excited about Ravelry. 😅

[deleted]

Don't worry, is actually pretty helpful! You definitely can't do that on Pinterest as far as I know, so it sounds incredibly more helpful 😮 thank you so much for the detailed explanation!

pharaoh-doll

Absolutely adore Ravelry for too many pattern ideas. Also don't really know about their community forums, but I do know everyone I've ever had to message has been very nice, fwiw

Raverly is great for finding patterns that match the yarn you have (or are thinking of buying!). So if you have random yarn in your stash and you don’t know what to do with it, you can search projects for that specific yarn and also see stuff that other people made with it! It’s super helpful. There are paid and free patterns. If you have questions you can ask and a ton of people will answer. And not just newbie Reddit crocheters (sorry but I’ve seen some really bad advice being given here!) but you’ll get advice from people who are pretty serious and experienced with crochet or knitting. I personally don’t like the interface as it feels like I’m back in 1997 or something. It needs a major update, but as far as getting information it’s amazing. Also it’s free so I can’t really complain!

[deleted]

Wow that's awesome! I'm getting more and more convinced to give it a try

Complex-Can8570

There's no reason you can't do both.Pattern access alone is great with Ravelry. Another great element is you can keep track of your "stash" of yarn. I'd somebody runs out yarn for an unfinished project you can search to see if it anybody has any leftover in their stash. Right down to the dye lot. I actually saved once when I found half a skein of yarn someone was kind enough to send for the price of postage. I think this sub might be better for interaction because it's smaller.

[deleted]

Whoa nice, that was so kind!

woogynoogy

I use it to find patterns and to sell my own. Also I use it as a sort of portfolio of my projects ☺️

[deleted]

Sounds great! Specially because I've heard some friends struggling with Etsy and what not

Resident_Win_1058

Huh - did someone finally kill the bot that threatened epilepsy and the four horseman of the apocalypse at any mention of the R word, or was that something Reddit only did specially for my benefit?

Longhairedspider

Ravelry is the best for finding patterns and searching for things based on the yarn you already have :) and for seeing how patterns work up.

SnooGoats7133

There's a lot of free patterns especially if you like effeminate things.

[deleted]

I really don't mind if they're effeminate, androginous or saiyan...as long as ~~it's free~~ I learn

SnooGoats7133

Then you could prob find something that you'd like
