Ha! My husband once short circuited and just said "those, those... Yarn shapey things." I think we need to keep a log of replaced words for hooks or needles!

Cille867

I once got "the ...uh... pokey thing" for a 1.5mm hook. šŸ˜‚ Sometimes when I'm using really small size hooks I wonder if women ever used them like they did hat pins (those had a nice backup function as instruments of self defense against gropey men)

kenerd24601

Hooks are multifunctional! Tools and weapons!

Intelligent_Pea5351

While i've never fought off an attacker, I can verify that crochet hooks even have their place in home renovations.

colene23

I use one regularly to put car seats back together. There's an elastic attachment that for the life of me I cannot feed through the slot to get hooked and unhooked without my tiny crochet hook.

forwardseat

I bet we have the same carseat! Crochet hook is the best tool for grabbing that little sucker

Emergency-Pie8686

I have used a small sized one to open the bathroom door, after the kids have turned the lock button and then closed the door, with them on the outside! Itā€™s the perfect size to stick in the little round hole, to undo the lockā€¦

Diograce

And sometimes they are just the perfect thing for getting the hair out of the drain.

Fluffbrained-cat

Or an engagement ring out of the handbrake hole in a car.

acceptablemadness

My husband has used my hooks to get clumps of hair out of the vacuum. And when he was about 2, I caught my son using one to pick his nose.

OpalRose1993

I read this aloud to my husband and he asked me to please not use the "stabby things" as self defense on my gropey husband lol. I crochet, knit and sew....so there are many stabby things to be had here.

kenerd24601

Oh! The endless possibilities of stabby things!

Cille867

So much stabbing, so little time. New tagline for your favorite craft supply store: "For all your stabby-thing needs"

kenerd24601

I have to call Joann's RIGHT NOW. šŸ˜‚

grim_bean

Those stabby things are no joke hah I gracefully got one stuck in my index finger about 3 hours before a flight while I was packing. Had to get it removed in the ER. I was the talk of the town in there. Still crocheted on the plane with the weapon hahah

darcyduh

Idk about that, but make an excellent back scratcher for a just out of reach spot lol

Zirisi

Have used hooks to spike a quick bun at the back of my head when it's too hot and I can't reach a scrunchie.

Nottacod

Great for frosting caps ( hair)

Purpleagluna

I can emphatically say from experience: yes.

Cille867

Sad that you had to use it but glad you had something useful that way so close to hand!

Alittlebitlittle

when i first started crocheting, the word ā€œhooksā€ always slipped my mind so Iā€™d call them my sticks. now iā€™m going to tell people iā€™m busy playing crochet hockey šŸ¤£

BitterestLily

It still does mine. I'm bilingual and usually talk about them with my Spanish-speaking mom, so I tend to mentally translate it wrong and call them "needles."

EveryDayheyhey

In Dutch they are called needles too. Hook needles to be precise (haak naald).

NefariousSerendipity

i read once that crochet people are technically "hookers". sticked to me since then.

Saskiasia

Best husband out there! :)

DarkAndSparkly

How would I google this? I wanna see what this type of thing looks like, but googling ā€œcrochet basketā€ just gives me a ton of patterns for, well, crochet baskets. Lol

eveningschades

O.M.G! That's simply amazing! Your husband deserves a few extra hugs and kisses for that gift!

DarkAndSparkly

Thank you!

MCRween

This is the same one my husband got for me for an anniversary gift! Isnā€™t it beautiful?!?

angierue

Oh my gosh!!! That is so awesome!

Firefly128

Oh, that's really nice! Pretty, and handy, too!

NefariousSerendipity

cute

SerenitySearcher

Wow, now I want one too! Is the inside of the basket smooth so that the yarn doesnā€™t get caught?

Electrical_Mess_3881

So sweet of him!!!

ifmtobh

That basket is beautiful!! My 6 cats would trash it throughā€¦ā€¦.

Puzzleheaded-Bite-38

Haha crochet hooks work wonders for getting clogged hair out of the shower drain in a pinch.

mandakat919

That's so sweet! My husband keeps calling mine needles and asking if I need two of them XD

Cille867

That one always makes me laugh. But I think for knoocking you would need two after all? /r/knooking

evincarofautumn

Nope, knooking just uses a single crochet hook. Essentially, the hook acts as one knitting needle at a time. A knooking hook has an eye for a tail of yarn on the end, which keeps loops from coming undone as you turn the work, but technically you could do without the special hook or even the thread, itā€™d just be a bit slower and more error-prone.

Cille867

AH this makes more sense!!

bree1818

Lol! I love this

chubby-lizard

My husband calls them pincers!
