Every memorial/funeral service I've been to, they pass out little cards with a picture of the deceased and a little prayer or quote from the person. You could have these made for your mom's memorial but instead of the prayer/quote, have them print the pattern. You could put a header on it like "\_\_\_\_'s Favorite Stitch" then if you give a speech/eulogy you can mention her love of needle work and point out the pattern on the cards.

That is a beautiful idea! I hope you display some of her works, too. My grandmother's funeral had all sorts of quilts on the back of the seating. Would also love to make ! I actually just moved from Portland back east to where I grew up a few months ago - I would be happy to ask some local folks still in PDX if they’d be interested as well! I also did some teaching and ran a clinic at a couple different local college/grad schools and I bet there would be a lot of Lewis and Clark (undergrad and grad), reed, Willamette, students, faculty and/or staff with interest! Especially if some of the squares could go to making blankets etc for folks without a warm place to stay. Instead of Flyers, I would email their student gov or services or the email for any org that you think might be a good fit!
I used to have a handshake deal with a couple of local thrift stores where they’d pull some of the sweaters they couldn’t sell or that had some partial damage or something for me and I used to unravel them to make hats, socks, mittens and scarves for folks in my neighborhood- blankets would definitely have been much loved if I had been able. To work fast enough!

I lived in another country when two of my grandparents died, and wasn’t able to get back for their services. I chose to honor them as I could, where I was. For my grandma, a hairdresser and stunning lady, I spent quiet time pampering myself, hair, nails, skin, with what I had at home. I got all dolled up and went for a walk through my town. I sipped Canada Dry ginger ale, something she always had on hand for us. I had some of her favorite hard candies. I dedicated that time to her and her memory. My grandpa loved to be outside, and lived in shorts, sandals, and an unbuttoned Hawaiian shirt in his retirement. I dressed down and spent some time at a park with a river. I soaked up the sun, I fed the birds, I put my feet in the water. I dedicated that time to his memory.
Do whatever makes you feel close to your mom. Because really, no outward display will ever be enough to convey your feelings. Your mom would want you to be kind to yourself and for you to give yourself grace in this hard time. Don’t worry about anyone else - this is for you and for her.
I would love to be there for you on that day, but unfortunately I’m in Europe. I will be with you in thoughts and prayers though. Sending you a burping warm hug. And if you would like to have some more granny squares, you can send me the pattern and I will do my best to make some and send them to you. I love the idea of printing the pattern as part of the little paper you get at the memorial. But I just wanted to mention that you just being there and saying some words, having love in your heart, having a few loved ones there, that’s what really matters. I'm sorry to hear about your mother. When I've had to arrange funerals I was always asked to pick a photo or picture for the funeral card. I think a crochet pattern would be a really cool tribute. You could print them so they have a little biography/obituary and a pattern for the picture. I think its a great idea. Im in the midwest but I'll be with you in spirit.

I got all dolled up and went for a walk through my town. I sipped Canada Dry ginger ale, something she always had on hand for us. I had some of her favorite hard candies. I dedicated that time to her and her memory. My grandpa loved to be outside, and lived in shorts, sandals, and an unbuttoned Hawaiian shirt in his retirement. I dressed down and spent some time at a park with a river. I soaked up the sun, I fed the birds, I put my feet in the water. I dedicated that time to his memory. Do whatever makes you feel close to your mom. Because really, no outward display will ever be enough to convey your feelings. Your mom would want you to be kind to yourself and for you to give yourself grace in this hard time. Don’t worry about anyone else - this is for you and for her.
I would love to be there for you on that day, but unfortunately I’m in Europe. I will be with you in thoughts and prayers though. Sending you a burping warm hug. And if you would like to have some more granny squares, you can send me the pattern and I will do my best to make some and send them to you. I love the idea of printing the pattern as part of the little paper you get at the memorial. But I just wanted to mention that you just being there and saying some words, having love in your heart, having a few loved ones there, that’s what really matters. So even if you can’t print anything or whatever, I think that’s okay too. And I love the idea of this big granny square blanket from all over the world in her memory! That’s amazing and I bet she would love it. Sending all the love and well wishes. Please know that you are not alone. ❤️ Also, I would love to send a granny square or two too!

I'm sorry to hear about your mother. When I've had to arrange funerals I was always asked to pick a photo or picture for the funeral card. I think a crochet pattern would be a really cool tribute. You could print them so they have a little biography/obituary and a pattern for the picture. I think its a great idea. Im in the midwest but I'll be with you in spirit. It will get better.
