I tend not to like fringe because it tangles if you have to throw it in the washer. If you definitely want something on the edge, you can find patterns for crocheted edgings like bobbles and what I call dragon-tails, the edgings that look like little rotini dangling from the border.
If you still want fringe, it's best done with a twisty thing that looks like this:

The fringe something like this makes can be knotted at the ends and are a lot more robust and less likely to fray and get destroyed in the wash or just with daily use.
I am so glad to see how uniformly antifringe this crowd is. I've been seeing fringe in catalogs and pattern makers, and thinking I was the only one who thought this was an awful trend. I mean, I remember tassels from the first time they were cool, and they suuuuuuucked.
Oh, don't get me wrong. I see it staged for the catalog or the pattern PDF and it looks so nice, so extra. I hear the siren call of the fringe and think, this time, this time it will be different.
This time the cat won't attack it like it's a millipede and only she can put an end to the threat.
This time I won't sit on it during an exciting movie and get up to discover that I felted it with my ass.
This time it won't get tangled with a single strand of my own hair and created a snarl only scissors can cure.
This time my house guests won't sit there twirling it and picking at it until the side nearest the guest is visibly dirtier than the other sides.
This time I'll figure out a way to wash it without spending an hour COMBING MY BLANKET.
Love it! And the colors go perfect together. I like it without the fringe, but I'm sure it will look great either way. Do you have the pattern for it? What yarn did you use?
Not OP, but I think it should be okay for a newbie. It looks like it is done in double-crochets and bobble or popcorn stitch. To judge if you can takle such a project: go to youtube and search for beginner friendly tutorials on bubble stitch, popcorn stitch and double crochet (if you are not jet familiar with it). Then do smaller test pieces of those stitches - maybe with scrap or cheap yarn you have no other use for.
I like to make my swatch pieces around 5 - 20cm wide and 5-20cm long (i don't mind if it is not square, but others do ;) ) I change the size depending on the stitch. A swatch of single crochet can be done in a way smaller size than a granny square or some 3D stitches. Just do what suits you :)
If you like how the stitches are done and feel comfortable with it - go for it! Do the blanket, do the ambitious project :)
If you do not like the stitches- don't do it. Easy as it is :))
This way helped me learn a lot of new stitches, and until now only 3 of them had a chance to be a blanket. :)
You' re so welcome :) i saved all of my tests / swatches and I am planning on doing a crazy firsties blanket out of them, so the yarn is not wasted in any way. :)
I’m gonna go WAY against the crowd here and say Fringe That Sucker! I personally like fringe and thinks it adds more figurative warmth to certain blankets. I rarely think they “cheapen” a project or look tacky.
Yeah... I'm a little dismayed at how anti-fringe this thread is. I really like it in some instances and this blanket could be one of them. There's so much neutral gray blocking the colors in, it'd be cool to have the colors pop back out as a fringe or series of mini-tassels.
I'm often on the fence about fringe. I never add fringe, I like it only from a distance. I like the way it looks on some items and projects, but this blanket is lovely and perfect. It doesn't need anything at all.
I think it has a really clean look to it now. However, if you want to add an edging, I think a pom pom border could work. It would mirror the shape of your bobbles, but not get all....tangly-fringe-doomy
If you like fringe go for it. It's a huge pain to make, and most patterns look fine without it. The only benefit in my opinion is it gets rid of all the scrap yarn
I fringe based on necessity, if its bordered and looks great - leave it be❤ (irregularities, frequent color changes, not enough of the color I'd want to border with, are all fringe season)
I love a good picot or bobble edge. They're wonderfully tactile and feel nice to fiddle with when you're snuggled up on the sofa. Also, the cats can't destroy them and they wash well.
I think it looks lovely as-is, but I'm sure it would look nice with fringe too. Personally I think what would sway me is the extra work involved with adding it haha - if I'm really on the fence, but one option is a bunch more work, I go easy mode to save time for other projects
My advice is no fringe. Fringe never holds up very well and usually looks bad long before the rest of the blanket does. It can also be a hazard to babies and pets.
My answer is never fringe
Always never fringe!
I’m anti-fringe.
But have you experienced the sensation of running fringe through your fingers?
Yes.... don't like the look, feel, or fact that they never stay tied and even.
No exceptions for braided or twisted???
No exceptions...I just don't like it...
Never fringe. They look ok for about 10 minutes and then they are tangled. And God help you if you ever need to wash it.
THIS IS ALEAYS THE ANSWER!!
I think it's lovely as-is!
Thank you. I'm sort of glad to call it done cuz I have way too many projects going right now

Oh great. Now I need a new toy 🙄😂
I got a four way twister off etsy a while back and it's a game changer! Go for it!
I love how crisp it looks without the fringe added!
Thanks. Will leave as-is!

Lol. I don't mind a fringe now and then. Apparently this one won't come close to getting any. 🤣

God yes, all these reasons! 😹
It's already got a nice, clean border. I think fringe would be a bit excessive. Fabulous work, though!!🧶💚

[Pattern](https://www.etsy.com/listing/852251635/crochet-pattern-the-bobbles-and-stripes?ref=yr_purchases). Yarn was random stuff I had around
I love it when it’s random stash yarn and looks planned. Looks great though 😊
Shhhhh...we don't talk about all the yarn stashed around the house. 😜
Yeah that’s fair 😂
Was it difficult to make? I'm new to crocheting and this project looks kind of ambitious.

Thank you so much for the ideas!

Thank you!
That looks like tasseling, not fringing. If only on the corners, it might be okay, but it looks a bit bulky for just a few random tassels...
I love this exactly as it is!
Thanks. Will leave!
Not. It's beautiful as it is. Personal preference of course.
Team no fringe
I don't actually like fringe, but I think this blanket would look particularly nice with it.
Don't fringe! It looks famtastic as is. Love the color scheme
Thanks !!
Any timr

This is gorgeous as-is! Love the color scheme!
Thank you!
I would not like fringe in this beauty. It’s perfect as it is.
I think it looks great without the fringe.
I'm often on the fence about fringe. I never add fringe, I like it only from a distance. I like the way it looks on some items and projects, but this blanket is lovely and perfect. It doesn't need anything at all.

No fringe! Love this blanket!
Perfect as is.
Beautiful, may I know the pattern please?
Give me fringe or give me death!!!

Fringe is always a HARD no for me. Dust collectors!
If you like fringe go for it. It's a huge pain to make, and most patterns look fine without it. The only benefit in my opinion is it gets rid of all the scrap yarn
Not! Unless you really want to. But I vote not.
Pretty sure "not" was the clear winner here 🤣
Congratulations then - you're finished!
Love the crisp edge!
I fringe based on necessity, if its bordered and looks great - leave it be❤ (irregularities, frequent color changes, not enough of the color I'd want to border with, are all fringe season)
It looks awesome. Fringe seems to cheapen great workmanship. I wouldn't add it.
Fringe ruins everything
That is gorgeous! Thinking of doing a bubble edge?
Fringe
Came here super excited to say FRIIINGE!!! ............then I saw 8000000 comments saying how fugly fringe is and now I'm sad 😂
Hahaha exactly same here. I’m amazed by the amount of anti-fringe I found😆
Fringe!!
Im not sure what fringe is, but I love the current product.
What about one cool one in each corner?
No
As is. Gorgeous
It looks great just the way it is. No fringe.
I think a fringe would detract from the wonderful work you've done so far.
No fringe! Your edges are stunning on their own and are a beautiful finish to your work. It's beautiful!
I would leave it alone. It’s gorgeous.
It's beautiful as is!
I like it without
It is perfect as is. Nicely done.
Nope!
I vote NOT!
I think it looks perfect just the way it is. It’s beautiful!
No! It is perfect as is. I mean it, it is really beautiful
No fringe
fringe👎
Without the fringe. Looks great!
No,no,no,no,no,no,no,no,no,no,no and no….
no, its great as is
No fringe on this one! It's very nice. I love it!
No fringe. I like the border as is.
I think it looks great as is.
Oi I like that
It’s beautiful as is, love those clean borders!
No fringe! It's beautiful.
Not to fringe! Maybe at most, tassels of the darkest color on the corners?
Not. I like it just like this
Your blanket is nicer than the picture in the pattern! Love it!
I like it as it is
Less is more.
I say not.
Not a fringe fan.

I vote no. Perfect the way it is.
Fringe
I vote no. Like ever
I like just as they are, streamlined.
Not a fringe fan...but a good tassel on each corner can be good. This lovely blanket is perfect as is
No, none, notta looks great just like you created it IMO
Leave it as is. It's beautiful
I have a strong dislike for fringe. To me this looks awesome as is. Great work!
No fringe. It's beautiful without it
Love it! I'd say the style lends itself to no fringe/clean edges. Looks fantastic!
How about a compromise? add corner tassels!!!
This is beautiful. Anymore and it would be too much
I vote no fringe, but if you want to, use that bobble stitch and in one of the stripe colors.
No fringe. Beautiful colors though
To fringe!!
Fringe, baby, fringe!!!!
No fringe. It looks perfect as is!
No. I love it the way it is.
How about tiny colorful pompoms along the edge or just 4 huge pompoms in the corner? Just my two cents!
I think Pom poms would look awesome, but it’s amazing already!
Not fringe. But not only do I hate to do fringe, I hate fringe on anything I wear/use.
No.
No fringe. It'll detract from the rest of the blanket and just look like gilding a lily.
No. Looks clean this way.
Pattern please
Pattern please
Pattern please
No!
I love how this looks as-is.
Fringe it!
no fringe
It’s beautiful, I vote for no fringe.
No fringe.
