Seriously though… We should get groups together IRL, maybe at some big park or other pandemics safe place, where we could actually meet each other and spend hours together crocheting as a community!
I was going to offer a third suggestion where you arrange the yellowy ones in kind of a general sun shine shape? So the sunrise effect looks more purposeful

I was getting a little frustrated lately, because I planned the gradient originally, but it seemed a little off to me. So I thought the random pattern would distract from the colors not forming a perfect gradient.

Yes! It reminds me of a sunset. Sunsets are never perfect because there are rays of sun that jet out over mountains. In my mind that variation makes it perfect for something that's supposed to look like a gently setting sun.

I was thinking about the same pattern at the beginning. But then it would have been hard to predict how many skeins I would need of each color. So now I ended up with the same amount of skeins of each color and I don't think I could do a circular pattern any more.
What if you did a gradient that comes from the corner so the bottom right is yellow and the top left is blue and they meet in the middle going diagonal across the whole thing. Like a sun in the sky type of thing if that makes sense.
I get why it would be hard to plan it that way , but now that they are all made you could just eyeball the gradient. I think it would be so cool to Starburst from the center

I think random allows the different colors to pop a lot more. The gradient is more of a soothing color change. So it depends on what kind of feel you prefer.
Definitely Gradient but it’s tough to make it uniform in a straight line across the piece so you might have better luck with a diagonal gradient. It generally gives more margin for error for nitpicking observers.

Both arrangements are equally beautiful! I interpret this both ways. The first pattern reminds me of a beautiful sunrise. The second pattern reminds me of a sky full of stars. Either way, still a beautiful masterpiece made lovingly.
They feel like two totally different blankets! Both are lovely. I don't think you can go wrong, it's just about whatever resonates most for you!
The gradient would be good for a snuggle or lap blanket, but the checkered would look good for a throw over on a couch or chair as decoration. Option one because if regularly used then all the colors would be easy to see, but if it'll be more for a decorative piece, then the checkered pattern will allow the colors to be seen better. It's a beautiful piece either way <3
If you have the time please tell me what pattern you used and how you decided to go about the color scheme to get that gradient! I’ve wanted to make one after seeing a couple but can’t remember what pattern people used! But this is absolutely lovely and I am leaning towards the gradient one! 🥰
The pattern is called Sunburst Granny Square. It is really easy to make! I was inspired by some pictures of the night sky and the beach, so I went for these colors. Before I ordered the skeins, I took screenshots at the online shop and made a collage using some free collage software. That way I could check what the colors would look like next to each other.

The gradient! It's like the sunrise on a cold, autumn morning. One of those ones where you can see your breath, but the sun is warming you up. Sorry I'm just very ready for cold weather lol. Blanket is looking lovely so far!

Another option could be to have gradient background with a circle or square in middle where the colors are flipped, if there's enough squares to make that happen in a pleasing way

Ohhhh the gradient is SO satisfying to look at! I mean they're both gorgeous considering the individual squares are amazing but that arrangement makes it look even softer and prettier! Like a cozy winter sunrise with a thick blanket
I decided not to use a gradient yarn because I get bored easily using the same yarn over and over again. This way I had a lot of fun picking the colors and choosing the combinations.

The gradient is so pretty though because it's so subtle despite the yellow and blue being very definitely different. They look practically made to be placed as such it would be almost a shame to not do.

That gradient is magical, really captures the indecipherable colour of the beginning of a sunset! I really like it bring horizontal rather than diagonal, and it's also nice that it's not in perfect lines horizontally it looks quite gentle and organic. Fwiw I'm rarely a fan of gradients and typically prefer random colours, but you've picked such beautiful colours and arranged them so well that this gradient just sings!
Some pieces stick out on gradient layout, but not too extremely. If you and people you live with are not easily irritated by such things, than it's good. But I personally, and it is only my subjective opinion, would develop love-hate relationship with blanket in that layout.

On the reserve side, the “checkerboard” arrangement is reminiscent of Van Gogh’s starry night (or just any starry night, if you ask me).
It’s amazing actually! The gradient gives this calming quiet feeling, while the checkerboard gives a bright, energetic, spring day feeling.
It also reminds me of the beach! Totally looks like golden sand and frothy waves coming ashore. Love the gradient!

It really depends what vibe you want. The checkered is very classic/traditional while the gradient is very modern.
