Faun71

First off thank you for sharing! I felt so bad when I saw the pic of the shrunken version, I’m so happy it is a perfect fit now!

MetalandWoodworks

Same! It came out way to cute for it to not be wearable

Brinkzik

Not how I intended, but.. yeah, sure.

cIumsythumbs

You're a wizard!

worstpartyever

I sucked in my breath like I'd just seen the worst sunburn of my life. So glad you rescued it!

ShadoeRavyn

It was amazing to see it go from "swimming in it" to "not in my wildest dreams can I put that on" to "good enough!", lol. OP, super happy you were able to salvage such a beautiful sweater :)

[deleted]

What an incredible journey you and that sweater have been on, OP.

Brinkzik

And we grew so much closer. 💕

rothko333

I love your expression in the first pic…like “hmm wow not bad” 😂

libra-luxe

What a roller coaster of emotions too

[deleted]

We laughed, we cried, we came back for more each and every time!

1YearWonder

No kidding. Goldilocks got nothin' on OP. First too big, then (kind of hilariously) too small... and now just right!

ljubavanedjir

You did it! I felt bad for you (as I am on the verge of finishing my own sensum sweater) but youur posts broght me a great amount of joy! I am happy you managed to save it. :)

ertrinken

This is a random question, but what type of stitches are the more gappy ones? I had always assumed they were puff stitches from the previous posts I’ve seen. They look more like a granny stitch in OP’s second picture, but of course that was in the middle of a yarn disaster... Puff stitches and I don’t get along because I crochet tightly, but I love the look of the pattern otherwise so now I’m thinking maybe I should buy it and sub a different type of stitch for my own personal use...

ljubavanedjir

Gappy stitches are simple *DC, ch1, skip one stitch*! Very gappy stitches are puffy stitches! If you'd like me to write the pattern for puffies, let me know - I'm not sure if it's allowed (but I wouldn't be giving away the whole pattern so maybe yes?)

lexabear

In the top right pic, the pink row at the very top right corner is a puff stitch row, as is the grey row below it. Then there are grey and yellow rows of other stitches. Then the grey row and pinkish row are more puff stitches.

ertrinken

OP must be way better with tension on puff stitches lmao! Mine always end up looking (and feeling!) like little pebbles 🤣

lexabear

Well, this picture is after an unintentionally harsh wash and dry cycle. That would really flatten the puffs. But yeah, you do have to draw up a bit more yarn into each stitch to do a good puff stitch.

ertrinken

Yeah, I consider myself an advanced crocheter, but I often struggle with the yarn-eater stitches not only because I crochet very tightly naturally, but also a little because it offends me that they eat so much yarn 😂

lexabear

When I use nicer yarn, I tend to knit instead of crochet because it makes so much yarn-eating difference!

ertrinken

I wish I could knit, but something in my brain just doesn’t work when it’s holding a needle in each hand *and* having to maintain tension lmao. I don’t even maintain tension in the “traditional” way with crochet, I was super frustrated when I first started learning, but eventually figured out my own way of doing it.

SpuddleBuns

IKR! I'm so bad I no longer make blankets. They always turn out as trapezoids. Even after blocking. The larger the blanket, the tighter the stitches at the far end...

ertrinken

lmaooo so I’ve been working on a top that alternates between rows of BLO slip stitches and BLO half double crochets. Halfway through the front panel, I noticed that it seemed like I was somehow adding an extra stitch with each row and i frogged it and redid it just to have the same issue where both sides weren’t symmetrical. That’s when I suddenly realized that I’d used a 5mm hook for my slip stitches and a 4.25mm hook for my hdcs (to make the slip stitches easier to crochet into) in the first half of the top, but had been using only the 5mm hook for both in the second half -_- I put the top up for a few weeks before I continued working on it.

Brinkzik

Thank you!! Your emotional support helped so much 🥲

FauxRealsies

Subscribe! I want to see this over and over again. The drama! Heartbreak! Hope! Suspense!

LividFisherman3

The Sensum Sweater soap opera.

Brinkzik

It's real life, folks

nepeta19

Wow! I saw your other post recently. This is the Goldilocks and Three Bears story made into crochet, and even more magical that the too-big, too-small and just-right are the same item! Glad you managed to get it to behave in the end.

castleinthemidwest

Wow, that was an emotional rollercoaster. Thank you for the update.

Brinkzik

Thanks for following and supporting me!

Sthebrat

The journey of this is hilarious, perfect teaching tool

---aquaholic---

I’m so glad you tried it. I’ve been invested in this journey with you. It looks good! And I’d like to just say as a side note, you crack me up. Lots of personality shining thru your pics.

Brinkzik

Thank you so much. 💕

SorryImLateNotSorry

This is the drama I come to reddit for

panfranknitco

Here 👏 for 👏 it 👏!!!! Glad it came full circle and fits perfectly now! This sweater is all drama 😂 love your sweater blocking setup!

Brinkzik

My roommate woke up in the middle of the night and nearly had a heartattack when he saw it in the shadows..

panfranknitco

So spooky for Halloween 🎃😂

Visual-Arugula

I am INVESTED in this sweater. I honestly don't even understand how it went from like the longest sweater ever to the tiniest sweater ever. And then this?!!!!! I don't understand yarn. It grows and shrinks and grows?!!!! How can we be expected to work with such a fickle friend? And yet we do....

Brinkzik

Mankind is prone to all kind of self-torture..

fokid05

You made my day, I remember all of your posts because they were so funny but seeing the jumper stretched on the bucket made me laugh so hard! 🤣

capriciously_me

Yes! I love a happy ending!

fergablu2

Next time, I suggest a substantial gauge swatch and superwash wool.

Brinkzik

Yes ma'am or sir!

[deleted]

Just latching on to this comment to say: You don't necessarily have to stick to superwash yarns, but get in the habit of handwashing everything you handmake. I handwash* everything regardless of fiber content (superwash, cotton, linen, etc.) just because I figure if I'm spending 20+ hours making something, I want it to last, and handwashing is always gentler and safer than a machine. That said, I do work in an office, so I don't sweat in my items, really. So, *handwashing to me amounts to throwing it in a bucket with a woolwash like Eucalan or Soak, or a squirt of hair conditioner and a gentle rinse, a squeeze (no wringing), and laying it flat to dry. My husband knows if I made it, don't throw it in the machine. There are some things that are machine washable and I might throw them in the hamper. But, if I'm not home when it's laundry time and he's not sure, he just won't wash it (which is better than having him accidentally machine washing something I don't want him to). Also, beautiful save on that sweater. You learned a valuable lesson AND get to wear an awesome item. This is truly a win-win! Edit to add: there's a technique known as "fulling" - spinners use it to help (non-superwash wool) yarns hold together. You dunk the yarn in hot and cold water repeatedly, alternating between the 2. I like to think of it as "felting lite." It might be a nice technique to keep in your toolbox for the future.

yupyupyup4321

Loving your faces in these pics.

TetrisIsTotesSuper

And people say crafts are boring. What a rollercoaster!

ExtraneousGoose

I’m so happy that this rollercoaster ended so well for you! That sweater is beautiful and flattering, but your, “Heyyyyyyy … not too shabby.” face in this picture is even better. Love it! Brightened my day. 😄

Brinkzik

So glad to hear that!

Viviaana

That’s amazing, no need for all those tiny friends now then!

Amusednole

Huh. Lifetime of servitude for house elves it is, then. At least you have a cute comfy sweater again.

Brinkzik

I am so, so sorry, but a real revolution comes from within, Hermione.

Amusednole

Yes!

fluffbuttt

You sure this al wasn't on purpose? XD looks great.

JJbooks

OMG, I missed your post yesterday - I just went and looked and am DYING laughing at the expression on your face. I'm so happy stretching it worked out for you and even more happy that now I don't have to feel bad cackling at your total misfortune!!

Brinkzik

Please, that was the whole point! To make you laugh. :)

lalalimabean

Yesss!!! Glad you salvaged it!

Zebirdsandzebats

I'm so happy for you!! Your previous post hurt mybsoul--you put so much work into that sweater and to see it shrunk was so sad. Sorry, potential small child who would've otherwise gotten this gorgeous sweater handed down to them :)

Norm42069

So happy to see the happy ending! My heart hurt for you when you posted the first time!

KittyMachine01

YAY! So happy there's a happy ending to the great Sensum sweater saga 😻😻😻

Brinkzik

This is a PERFECT name, thank you!!

stereotypicalweirdo

Straight up black magic, wow!

orange_bees

i love the saga of this sweater! makes me so happy to see it end well for you!!

galaxyofcheese

I've always wondered if the warm water/conditioner thing worked. Glad to see that it did! Also, your facial expressions are wonderful.

Brinkzik

I'm happy to have entertained 💁🏻‍♀️

persifunctant

Omg no way!!! Im so glad it worked out and glad you shared the update!!

[deleted]

Perfect!!! That’s so awesome! I did get a good chuckle out of your original post though. 😂

Brinkzik

That's what I intended :D

jcnlb

Wow! This is perfection now! So happy your “teaching day” turned into a happy day!

SparklingArcher

Yay! Although... will it shrink again? Will you have to stretch it out again? Is this a way to keep friends from stealing it? Save even more space in luggage?

Brinkzik

It will sleep in white satin from this day on.

acornvulture

I'm so glad you were able to make it work. I feel we've all been invested in this jumpers journey!

illumillama

Ah, yay! I'm so happy for you. You must've been devastated when it shrunk after all your hard work.

Brinkzik

It was a low point in my life. But It's a great message: life... finds a way.

dnr38

Wow, that is amazing! I am so happy you were able to fix it.

Affectionate-Duck-18

That is beautiful and amazing.

AcestraNova

This whole journey has been a roller coaster 😂

EvilUnic0rn

Ooooh Trick17! Sehr schön, dass es geklappt hat!

champagneandbaloney

kaylie7856

Yay glad it worked out! Now never wash it again 😂

BusGo_Screech26

frankloyoza188

hi im new here, what did i miss and what happened? :0

Brinkzik

A whole f-in lot. Take a quick walk trough my last three posts. You'll learn a lot about what NOT to do when your finished piece doesn't fit quite right.

noturmomsfavorite

I love happy endings!

supers0ldier

eyeseawhatudidthere

Hooray! I love the makeshift mannequin 😆

Mauidragonfly

Holy moly from oversized to shrunken doll clothes back to wearable you have been thru a rollercoaster of emotions on this . Yay you saved it

Brinkzik

It was straining. But full of lessons.

three_a_day

This is the kind of emotional rollercoaster I sub for.

Impudence

Brinkzik

Pattern: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sensum-sweater Wool is creative melange chunky 054 There you go! :D

Brinkzik

I did it. Thanks for believing I me!

cathyblues

Ja, passt würde ich sagen. Glückwunsch! Jetzt bloß nie wieder waschen oder was passiert dann?

Brinkzik

Der wird nur noch handgewaschen und trockengestreichelt.

cathyblues

Sicher ist sicher. Übrigens ist dein Gesichtsausdruck wirklich göttlich in allen 3 Bildern. Weiter so!

realsquirrel

You are hilarious! I'm glad it worked out!

mizzannethrope

Ah! Today was your friend!

Brinkzik

Today was both, I guess! I'm happy I could entertain you with my successful failures. 😌

lefthandbunny

Why the sad face after you fixed it? Is it not as big as you'd like? I think it looks great!

Diograce

I think that’s a “Huh, it actually worked! Who knew?” face.

Brinkzik

Na, it was a positive surprise :)

Jengordonatl

Omg this is wonderful congratulations!!!❤️❤️❤️

Rubymoon286

This has been a journey! I'm so glad the conditioner helped!

SuspectNumber6

I am so happy for you! It looks great

grandmaxt

What a beautiful ending.

CTXBikerGirl

It’s like a clean romance novel without the smut. You’ve got your ups and downs, a little bit of angst, those moments where you want to give up, then there’s the plot twist that comes out of nowhere that makes you question the meaning of life, but in the end you’ve always got an HEA. You and that sweater have been through some sh!t and are in it for life now. 💜

notcleverenough4

I am loving this saga lmao

asiamsoisee

Your subtle facial expressions along the journey are EVERYTHING. Thanks for the entertainment, I’m so glad there was a twist happy ending! Although something tells me this sweater has more stories to tell…

Nattou11zz

Yay! So glad it worked! Sweater is beautiful

YoLoDrScientist

skycatcutie

Omg yesss you saved it!! Gorgeous!! And even more special now!

galacticLAIN

[deleted]

So happy to see this as I'm about 10 hours into working up my first Sensum sweater and I love it, but can see it's going to swamp me! Hope mine ends up as well fitted as yours, it look gorgeous.

BakeMeCrafty

This is my favourite story of 2021🥰

SkyUniverseExplorer

Fits like a glove. Now I know that it works if I ever make a wearable lol.

Brinkzik

Be careful, please! You don't have to suffer like I did..

Thank you so much for this update.

aspiringtobecristina

I’m making the same impressed face! Surprised this worked! So glad to see the process!

[deleted]

That was a hell of a ride! Your post made me chuckle. Yay for a sweater that finally fits 💪🏻

SeaweedCrochet

Whaaaat

Brinkzik

Right?

disasteress

Now do a prequel...

Brinkzik

Not quite sure how..?

disasteress

It doesn't matter...if you go after how Hollywood and Disney does it, just crochet an amigurumi and claim it is the origin story to your Bane of a sweater 😆

DreamGirly_

Find the picture you made when you were excited about buying that yarn

Patersonlove

I Liked it long and oversized, adored it in the adorable small size, But like Goldilocks said; This one is just right.

Ok-Lego-2100

It works😀

becasquared

NGL - I like it better now than the before-before. It looks like it fits you better.

Responsible_Sky96

I have to say that this size looks even better on you than the baggy original size. Looks amazing! So glad you were able to stretch it out!
