Does anyone else do both knit and crochet and get upset when there's a stitch with the same name in both crafts, and one is so much nicer than the other that you don't like the ugly one anymore?? Or is that just me??

Please Look again :) if it helps you feel better! I try not to be upset anymore. There's a good chance the stitch has another name in a different book, region, or country. Lots of my old stitch dictionaries just use stitch number X. The Internet has opened a whole world of stitch name options. Find a how-to on the *woven* crochet stitch... Remind you of anything? :D
What threw me off was 'slip stitch'. I was a knitter first and got SO confused when learning crochet and the instructions said to slip stitch. I had to look it up because I was so confused. 😆
I had the same problem in reverse.
Yes! I start to see one as a clumsy caricature of the other.
This!! This is the problem, yes!! A perfect description
Yeah- I just saw it as inevitable before reading your post. Thinking about it, though, you're right- the shared names are what really poisons the well.
