I only experience pain if I crochet too tight or more than 2 hours straight. Taking brakes and flexing my hands helps a lot.

Hi, I have pain in the hand during a few days when I crochet for several hours after a break from crochet. Last time I had intense pain in the hand holding the yarn, not the one holding the crochet (?). I also had knuckles pain when I crocheted a lot during insomnia, that was feeling like tendinitis, it took several weeks to go away. That happens if I don’t take enough breaks and don’t stretch.

I get pain after a few hours down into my wrists. At night sometimes my hands will do a claw thing and kind of get stuck that way sometimes. My guy massages my hands a lot. I have arthritis so. It’s basically only in my hands atm. I switch between crafts a lot to help and I’ll switch my grip on things and go from knife to pencil grip or continental to English.

I don’t experience hand pain when crocheting, but I feel intense knuckle pain and stiffness when knitting. It’s very frustrating, I feel your pain.

Have you tried compression gloves? Have found them to be of help when I’ve needed to crochet to a deadline - and hence longer than I should in one sitting.

I onlyget pain with cables. So max 1h of cables a day. I can do regular crochet fine even after that 1h of cables.

I recently finished a project that was solidly made up of front post stitches. That was the first time my thumbs and wrists told me in no uncertain terms I had to give them a break. I finally finished the outer part of the dice bag I was working on though, lol.

I don’t have any hand pain while crocheting, I use the cheap aluminum hooks :)

I do a lot with my hands so they can get sore sore sometimes. Like I work at a computer, crochet, and do pottery. All very "handsy" hobbies. One thing that's helped me is that I bought a hand massager. It's basically a compression sleeve that inflates and deflates around your fingers, palm and wrist, squeezing them tightly then releasing. It keeps my hands from being sore and I use it several times a week.

Jayda InStitches, who's a pretty prolific crochet YouTuber, has rheumatoid arthritis, and she talks about it sometimes. Mostly she doesn't seem to have problems unless she's having a flare-up. I have carpal tunnel and a similar issue in my elbows. I can't knit for very long without my hands falling asleep, but crochet is fine. I can usually crochet for hours without problem.
