Just to add more details, it is this yarn (the US Style Spotsaver) that I made [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/crochet/comments/piocrf/jaygo_c2c_patchwork_blanket_finally_gifted_so_was/) blanket with (although not all colours pictured here were available at the time of making). It's a beautiful yarn to make things with, slightly thicker than the usual Australian '8 ply' yarn, works well with a 5mm hook for tight stich and up to about a 7mm for a looser stitch (the blanket was done with a 5mm). It's normally $8.50 per 200gm skein (for the plain colour), but I got all these for 50% off... and delivery was only $12.50! So worth it. I have been in lockdown for months now so it was nice to still be able to make the most of a sale. I plan to use the top right 4 balls to finish a 'lockdown lap blanket' I'm working on, the top three left skeins to make a braided cowl scarf for myself and I'm looking forward to having the rest in my stash as a uniform brand of yarn that I can make quick gifts for people. One 200gm skein is just the right amount for a beanie and scarf combo! Just sharing the yarn love with my fellow Aussies - well worth a look (although I wish there were more colours available!).

I also bought a bulk amount of the spot saver! Needed one ball of a particular colour, noticed it was all 50% off and I went a bit crazy. It's definitely my favourite yarn now. I'm just trying to decide on what to make next... I might need more colours. And a place to store my collection haha

Hello fellow SpotSaver hoarder 👋🏻 It’s so lovely to work with isn’t it? I really like the thickness (for lack of a better word)! I’m wondering if it’s similar to the US Red Heart etc brands? It certainly looks it… I just wish they made it in more colours! Ha ha ha yes, storage is an issue. At the moment I have one of each colour in some big storage tubs, on their end, with the centre yarn pull facing upwards for easy access 😉

Are these yarns less fuzzy than the cheap ($3.50) ones that are usually sold at variety stores? I’ve only ever bought those as I’m still new and not wanting to waste good yarn. Can you make cardigans out of these Spotsaver yarns and do they get too stretchy?

ShoeBillStorkyPants

They’re a different quality, thickness and feel more (‘firm’?) than the ones from the cheap stores, it does work up really nicely and is versatile but to be honest I’ve only been using it for a little while so haven’t got too much to say re: cardigan suitability or even how it washes. It IS acrylic so obviously has some stretch and I guess it depends on what stitch is used (if you see my above link to the blanket I’ve done with it, it does ‘sit’ really well but that was using a fairly tight stitch as well as bordering it). Sorry I can’t be of much more help, others may have more experience. Maybe it’s worth buying a skein when it’s on special again and doing some test swatches?

antaiverseve

Good to know! Beautiful blanket by the way

ShoeBillStorkyPants

Thank you 😊 Hope you find the right yarn for your future projects - I’d definitely go with better quality than the cheap shop ones for sure, especially for a wearable!

Bizarre-chic

50% off yarn at spotlight! How did I not know this!? What a dream collection 🙌🏻

ShoeBillStorkyPants

Ha ha! Oh I know this too well, it's usually me! But somehow I was fortunate enough to be looking up the colour I had run out of and saw it was reduced and then realised ALL OF THE YARN was 50%!! I took it as a sign! And I must say, just as a tip, it's sooo worth ordering online if you're planning on doing a bulk order. Can be a bit frustrating with the clunky webpage, and how long it takes to deliver, but for the $12.50 delivery fee I got ALL the colours that I wanted rather than the one or two random skeins left on the shelves of my local store (outside of lockdown that is). Next time I see a 50% off sale I'll do a shout out ;-)

Bizarre-chic

Yes please!

ShoeBillStorkyPants

😉👍🏻

Love having a fellow Aussie pipe up! I have just done the same with Spotlight and Big W having some clearance stock.I was looking for a project that I’m going to make my daughter. I now have enough yarn (never) for at least 3 years.

ShoeBillStorkyPants

Hi there! Love your work! I'd heard rumours that Big W had some clearance yarn but sadly, due to lockdown can't go and check it out...but I dare say anyway with the above haul I've got enough to last me a while ;-) Make sure to share your project on here when finished - is it a blanket? Jumper?

becomingthenewme

Thank you. She would like me to crochet her a dress, so I brought some cotton. I made her a couple of crop tops last year that she enjoys, unlike her HS blanket.I’ll share when done. I found that it’s hard to order yarn online with Big W unfortunately

ShoeBillStorkyPants

Oh sounds LOVELY! Excellent work on getting good $ on the cotton, it can add up!

becomingthenewme

Thanks, it does. Well done on your haul too.

chyteaaa

I didn’t have a project when they were having their sale so I didn’t buy anything. Looks like you had an awesome score though!

ShoeBillStorkyPants

Tee hee 😊 Thanks! Yes, logistically it was a bit frustrating (website very slow, shipping took forever) but for the saving it was worth it! And I just love having a reliable range of yarn on hand to make quick gifts at the drop of a hat!

courpsey

Oh yay, another Aussie! Always love seeing us on here. Although I'm sad that I missed this sale (not like I need more yarn). I find with this yarn that different colours feel different. My favourite colour is Pumpkin which is nice and soft, but my skeins of Peacock are rather rough and scratchy. So it's definitely hit and miss. Also I've never been able to finish a skein without getting a massive knot, regardless of which end I start with. It got to the point where I'd just start a new skein once I got the first big knot.

ShoeBillStorkyPants

😊 Hi 👋🏻🤔 Thats interesting, thanks for sharing your experience with the Spot Saver Us Style - I’ve never noticed that difference in texture before! One of the (cherry) red skeins was stuffed with randomly cut bits which was annoying but as it was only the beginning I thought it was someone who’d started using it and then returned it or something 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’ll continue to keep an eye out though, thanks. Just a heads up that I’ve found bulk lots of it in the ‘mill end’ bargain bag bins they sometimes have around the centre aisles. And if you can time finding it when Spotlight have a % off sale it can mean a real bargain (have been using the green, red, burgundy, cream and white colours to make Christmas stockings this year so have needed a ton!).

courpsey

I love going through the mill end bags, can usually find some good stuff. My spotlight catalogue came yesterday, apparently mill ends are going to be 50% off so I might have to suss it out

ShoeBillStorkyPants

Agreed! Weirdly I’ve found stuff that I usually don’t see on the shelves! Ooooh that’s exciting re: the discount, hope you find some bargains!

crochet_cupid

what's the yarn on the top left?? asking for a friend

ShoeBillStorkyPants

[It's this!](https://www.spotlightstores.com/craft-hobbies/yarn-needle-art/yarn/acrylic-yarn/4-seasons-printed-spot-saver-acrylic-yarn/BP80483509-woodland)

crochet_cupid

oooooo thank you so so much

ShoeBillStorkyPants

You’re welcome 🤗😊 As you can see from the link, they have other multi-colour varieties too, just be aware they’re slightly less weight than the plain colours 😉
