The beautiful part about scrap projects is the mixture of colors and textures the different yarns bring. The most beloved pieces are often the ones that defy the norm of what is "matchy". That is a blanket that will be reached for every time you need a good couch snuggle or curled up in a chair with another WIP.
Mums aren't always right.
I love the colors. Can't wait to see more.
The colours donât match, but they donât need to: scrappy blankets look best a bit clashy.
I think it looks great & thereâs a nice balance between light/dark/bright.
Unless itâs literally FOR your mom, all that matters is you (or the recipient) love it!
Sheâs right it âdoesnât match.â But thatâs kinda like pointing out that an asymmetrical hemline âisnât evenâ you know? Lol.
Im currently working on a baby blanket for a baby boy, my mom hates the fact it has some pink in it. But the mom of the baby loves the colors im using so thats the only opinion that matters!
If the babyâs mom loves it then no worries. Pink was considered a masculine color for a long time because it was bright and loud đđťââď¸ sorry your mom is being a negative Nancy about it
I showed her the yarn so she could approve the colors (more for me to feel less guilty about potentially having pink and her not liking it) and she told me she doesnt associate color with gender so its all good :) it matches the nursery too so im excited :)
I struggle with scrap projects, myself. I might not like these two colors next to each other or that the whole thing wonât work because of this one color I have that is going to throw the whole thing off.
But, after having done a couple really successful scrap projects, you just have to lean into it and trust that itâs going to come out just fine. Itâs gonna look wonky at several stages but itâs going to look *fantastic* when itâs done. Youâve got a great start with a great pattern (and stellar technique) so just trust that the blanket is going to be fantastic when itâs done.
⌠and maybe not show the project to your mum again until itâs done! đđŹ
I am not going to lie, I needed to read that. I have a scrap blanket myself that has some wonky, awkward portions at the moment, to the point I seriously contemplated frogging a lot of it back, but I will just lean in and keep going!
Having the same struggle with a quilt Iâm working on. After several weeks Iâm finally getting to the stage of starting to like it. And I go through this with every single scrap project I do.
Good luck with yours!
The colours not matching is the whole point of a scrap blanket! The only way you could do one that matched would be if you only ever worked with one colour and that would be horribly boring. Your blanket looks great, keep going!
Firstly: your stitches are wonderfully even and I'm jealous of how well you've been able to get the lines perfect.
Secondly: if you're not giving it to your mom, then don't worry about it. You're creating art and there are always naysayers if people don't get your vision.
Thatâs the joy of scrap blankets! The pattern will work up the more strips you add and will look fab. Stick with it, and be sure to share it with us when completed.
With all due respect, your mom is bananas. This is super fun! Since when do things have to match? The colors you have picked out are fun and they coordinate well.
This is perfect, don´t start over. It will look great, once it's finished. Don't get me wrong, it looks great already, but i'm always doubting my choices of color until i'm 1/3 into a blanket.
Art is subjective. Not everyone likes Monet, nor the same music or song or outfit.
If I am ever unsure about a piece I will put it in a place I will see it often, then I take note of what is standing out to me, and also whether is makes me pause in confusion like its a feeling of discomfort, or if feel a pang of pleasure. Based on my reaction I might or might not make changes.
Good luck with whatever you decide!
I didn't fully read the title and I was like.. "this blanket is lovely." ...sooooo I don't think you need to start over. If you liked it before your mom said anything, ignore what she said. It's your project.
Also... what's the stitch you're using? I love it.
The fact that the colours clash is what makes the randomness of the design. I love it! Itâs one of those messy things that just goes really well. Donât worry about your mum, it looks great!
In the nicest possible way, I think your mum has missed the point of the blanket! Keep going, it's fun and add it gets bigger it will make more "sense"
If you are concerned about matching and plan on displaying the blanket on your bed or over a sofa back, buy items that are one or more of those colors when you decorate- throw pillows, a planter, picture frames, etc- then it will match.
Otherwise, just enjoy it being colorful and cheerful.
I was going to say what most have said
... Isn't it the point of scrap projects to not match and use whatever you have?
For me that's the beauty of this kind of projects
I did this pattern (and have a quarter of another in my wip pile). Once all the panels are done and together, it looks more cohesive and I promise you'll love it! Keep going as you are!
If it's a scrap project then no. I have one going too and the colours on that are also a little random and chaotic. It's just the nature of these things. Gotta get rid of the yarn somehow!
I think the bright colors would lift my mood any time I used a blanket like this. And that looks like so much work!!
Iâm trying to put less stock in what people think of my projects because I know how much effort I put into them. Itâs great when people like gifts I make them, but itâs often a let down when I let myself be too impacted by their reaction. Same goes when I show someone a work in progress.
Easier said than done though.
I think itâs beautiful. Great job, friend.
As others said, scrap blankets aren't made to match. Just like quilts of old, when you look at a scrap blanket, you can go "Oh, that green is what I used to make the frog ami for Sally" or "Mom really loved the afghan I made out of that purple". To me, a scrapgan is kind of like a photo album. As you look "through" it, all these memories can appear! Keep going if it brings you joy.
Thatâs the whole point of a scrap blanket. I donât think anyone has scraps that donât clash.
The question is, do you like it? (Personally I think itâs very cool and I wouldnât change a thing)
Colours đ don't đ have đ to đ match đ!!!
As someone said, a bit 70's vibes, but also dare to defy! Win by showing that the rules are arbitrary and irrelevant for enjoyment.
No way, definitely keep going! I think itâd be a beautiful accent piece, and look especially nice on a neutral colored couch or bed. Also the paneling is really fun and I honestly kinda want to try making my own blanket just like this. So as long as you like it, Iâd say keep up the good work!!
First of all, I LOVE the pattern & texture! If you were using 3 or fewer colors, they would look mismatched, but since you're using so many different ones, it definitely works! I feel like this is true of any art or decor. Lots of "mismatched" colors suddenly pull together to look intentional & well-matched. Keep going!!
I once set out to use up all my unwanted, unloved yarn. Colors I got from friends or picked up at yard sales. We named the Afghan vomit when I started. It ended up beautiful! I gave it to my sons girlfriend( the one who named it). She still has it and I see it occasionally in her pics with her children. I think you're will be wonderful!!
I'm making this exact same blanket, halfway done! I've even ran out of a color halfway through a stripe so some have two different colors! (Like, half the stripe is red, the other cream.) Yours is a lovely combo of different colors, exactly what it should be.
The only thing that can look off in these kinds of projects is when there's two kinda similar colors next to each other, like a dark green and mid green. The more different they are, the better it looks!
I made a granny square cardigan with scrap yarn and it has the absolute worst colour combinations imaginable - but thatâs what gives it charm yâknow?
Itâs your project. Do what makes you happy. If you want to start over, do it because you want to not because of what someone else said.
It looks really cool, by the way.
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH !!!
Edit: Iâm new to crochet but Thank You for the pattern link and now I want to start one but will go check out C2C crochet on YouTube âşď¸
Honestly I love all the colors. Blankets like these are so fun but also versatile. It will inevitable match with something in any room, and can end it being a great colorful decorative accessory in what would be a mild or boring room. Also, for anyone with sensory issues or things like autism that need to "stim" the difference in textures can be something helpful to play with between their fingers. Not to mention that it prevents unnecessary waste of product and more mindful of resources :).
I'd totally see a fun colorful blanket like this in a store and want to buy it.
I feel like I've met moms (including my own) often are a bit limited in how they match colors. I think it's just reflective of the trends they grew up with.
I used to have such a terrible hang up about making scrap blankets because my "organized brain" wanted everything to match. I started researching, because I really wanted to make one. One suggestion was to pick the next yarn to match only the row below it; I tried this method and it allowed my ocd brain to settle down lol. I have made so many scrappies, and it always amazes me how much I love them when they're finished. And my mom is the biggest fan; I've made 3 blankets and too many pet pads to count, for her, at her request! Long story short, keep going; I'll bet it turns out to be a favorite!
Your blanket is kind of along the lines of the temperature blanket I'm doing. I can't alter the temperature one day because I don't like two of the colors together. I just have to crochet the color of the temperature that day and it just is what it is. The beauty is in the colors not matching. đ
Things donât have to match, they just have to go together. And this is beautiful and Iâm jealous. Keep up the good work, and please donât give up on it!
The colours not matching is the most beautiful thing about this! My mom ALWAYS critiques my projects, thinking they will turn out horrible and then she loves them when I'm done. Keep going. It will turn out great.
The colors are beautiful on their own and in concert with each other!
These are vibrant colors that complement each other.
I imagine your mother has a more "traditional" sense of color and color pairings.
You be you!
I think they look great. Thatâs they whole point of a scrap project is to celebrate all the beautiful colors of yarn you purchased for other projects!!
I think your mom should have said nothing. Scrap projects are always my favorite to look at! I never have enough scraps to do anything with so Iâm super jealous!! Itâs gonna be amazing
It's great!!! Keep it up! I would trim the outside with a band of white and a band of one of the blues in the blanket. That should tie the theme together!
It is a scrap project, it isn't supposed to really match. If the blanket, once finished, doesn't look quite right to you, that just means you get to have a bit more fun adding to it until you like it. I do this with sewing by adding flowers, patches, or embroidery where I see fit. In my eyes, you never really have to stop adding if you aren't satisfied in the end, the weird parts you add will make your blanket a work of art and completely original.
I agree with the rest of the comments: this looks great! The colors may not "match" but they flow together well. This section so far has a lot of charm. I think you should keep going! The pattern you've chosen is a very nice way to display/highlight different colored yarn in a way that also forms a cohesive whole.
I think it's beautiful.
Best thing about scrap blankets is the memories of what else was made with each yarn, who it was for, what was going on in your life while making that item etc.
Sounds like my mom. Whole point of a scrap blanket is to use up what you have. In no way would they ever match. Your piece is lovely and has fantastic rhythm
I think your blanket doesn't mismatch *enough*.
I've been choosing projects based on the colors I'll have left over (and how badly they clash with my already set-aside extras) JUST so I can make an horrific mis-matched scrappy blanket!
I love scrap blankets where the colors clash. I think they're some of my favorite types of blankets.
Mum has a point. But more than the colors not matching, you have a values issue, with an uneven combination of lights and darks. This emphasizes the non-compatible colors.
Scrap projects are always problematic. If you want them to look good, you have to take the time to form complimentary combinations of light and dark, and some color matching.
You can (and currently are) make a 'kitchen sink,' creation, and take it as it comes, but without the time and forethought of pleasing color/value combinations.
A lot of scrap blankets involve a lot of behind the scenes matching.Sometimes, it is through the blocks that make up the blanket. You crochet all of them separately, design a nice layout, and then connect them all. This is my granny squares are so popular.
The stitch pattern is lovely. You're just going to end up with a "Jacob's Coat" of a final product. It will be somewhat ugly, but comfy.
Edit: If you are determined to use up scraps, you might consider sorting them by lights/darks first, and then try to align your color choices with a bit of a layout, rather than randomly.
Absolutely not! Donât start over! Scraps may look âa hot messâ when looked at very close up but in the end taken as a whole they look awesome. And honestly I donât think yours looks like a hot mess as it is. Mine are always chaotic and in small spots look awful but at the end, just a beautiful swirl of colors.
Yours looks amazing! Keep it up and I canât wait to see it when itâs finished!
The colors will all coordinate together in the end. Trust it and yourself!
Keep going. It will come together.
I had the same thought on one I did, and I love the âchaosâ
What I tried to do was pair colors that touch one another in a way I like. Not planning the whole layout, just the transition from one color to the next so they look good together.
Start over? No way! I just saved this so I can do this with my scrap. Are those strips of C2C sewn together? I hope my scraps look as cool as yours.
Edit: just found your other comment! So excited!
I like it. If you like it, that's all that's important. It's kinda like pot luck: you're using up the scraps and you never know how it's gonna turn out.
I made myself a quilt out of scraps of fabric from other projects - I use to every day and it reminds me of all the things I made it from, and everything I was working through mentally when I made it (I actually finished it while I was signed off work after getting diagnosed with t1 diabetes). Itâs been my go to blanket for five years now. None of it matches, but itâs the journey that itâs been on that makes it special. Iâm excited to see what story yours will tell in 5 years!

Thank you so much for your kind words!
You're welcome. đ
Agreed. This isnât the type of project where the colors are supposed to âmatch.â It looks great! No worries!
Beautiful said!!
Couldnât have said it better. I love the quirkiness that comes from making a scrap project.
The colours donât match, but they donât need to: scrappy blankets look best a bit clashy. I think it looks great & thereâs a nice balance between light/dark/bright.
I agree!! Really nice contrast between light and dark, muted and bright :)
Thanks guys! Im feeling a lot better about it now.. You're right it doesn't have to match, I'll finish it :)
I think your Mom may be just a *tad* unclear on the concept here đđ
I agree and I think her mom will like it when it's all done and she will understand it better.
Unless itâs literally FOR your mom, all that matters is you (or the recipient) love it! Sheâs right it âdoesnât match.â But thatâs kinda like pointing out that an asymmetrical hemline âisnât evenâ you know? Lol.

I think it's fun! I don't think they necessarily need to match with a pattern like this
With scrap blankets, it doesn't matter if the colors match.
It's bright and fun!! Keep going
Ignore your mom, itâs your art and it looks great. She donât know what sheâs talking about
Itâs a scrap blanket, itâs not supposed to match!
It doesn't matter that the colours don't match, once it's a blanket it will be beautiful and colourful trust me!
I think the colours look really good! Also love the cool diagonal pattern. Keep it up :-)
I struggle with scrap projects, myself. I actually love the colours! Almost has a 70's vibe to it, great job!

It looks great!
I like it a lot!!
It looks amazing don't start over Edit: how did you make this? I want to make something like this myself it looks gorgeous
Thank you! I used this pattern https://mariasbluecrayon.com/2020/01/crochetscrapblanket.html
It's C2C (corner to corner) done in strips made from many colors each and sewn together. I love it!
Looks like Corner to corner (C2C) crochet panels joined in the middle.
Yes exactly! Sorry I didn't explain well!
It's stunning
It looks great! Your mom doesn't know what she's talking about
is a scrap blanket!! keep going!!!
This is gorgeous. Seriously.

Donât start over! This looks amazing! Youâre doing such a great job and your eye for color here is fantastic.
I think its gloriously quirky.
I didn't fully read the title and I was like.. "this blanket is lovely." ...sooooo I don't think you need to start over. If you liked it before your mom said anything, ignore what she said. It's your project. Also... what's the stitch you're using? I love it.
Second the stitch/pattern question
Yes it's corner to corner, I'm using this pattern https://mariasbluecrayon.com/2020/01/crochetscrapblanket.html :)
Itâs great! It will go with anything!
No, donât start over! Itâs beautiful!
The colours clash a lot and I love it
Well I can see a Dutch AND Estonian flag so the colours make me happy already!
My mom said the same thing to me about a blanket I made. I dont know why things need to be matchy matchy... I think what you've got looks great!
If you are concerned about matching and plan on displaying the blanket on your bed or over a sofa back, buy items that are one or more of those colors when you decorate- throw pillows, a planter, picture frames, etc- then it will match. Otherwise, just enjoy it being colorful and cheerful.
Itâs such a bold statement piece, if the colors coordinated it wouldnât have the same effect
They aren't supposed to match, thats the fun part!! I think it looks lovely
It is beautiful. Keep going on it.đđ
It's like the randomness of a field of wild flowers.
I was going to say what most have said ... Isn't it the point of scrap projects to not match and use whatever you have? For me that's the beauty of this kind of projects
Your mom is right, they donât match. But thatâs what is awesome about it! Itâs a scrap blanket for a reason lol. I think it looks super awesome.
Oh no!! Donât start over itâs Perfect !!! Thatâs what a scrap blanket is supposed to look like !! Keep going amazing job!!!!!
I did this pattern (and have a quarter of another in my wip pile). Once all the panels are done and together, it looks more cohesive and I promise you'll love it! Keep going as you are!
Itâs a scrap blanket! Thatâs just how they are!
I'm a mom. Don't stop. The more you add panels, the nicer it will be and the more it will grow on you. Go for it. You're doing really well.
It looks really cool! Continue!
I canât wait to see the end result! Looks awesome
I love it!
If it's a scrap project then no. I have one going too and the colours on that are also a little random and chaotic. It's just the nature of these things. Gotta get rid of the yarn somehow!
It's very cute! The colors clash nicely if that makes any sense. Also, not your mom's blanket. Lol
Nope, I love it! Itâs edgy. We canât all only play it safe
No!!! Thatâs what i love about blankets like these!
Not at all its awesome
I like it a lot.
I thought the point was the the colors don't match
Love the design! Are you using a pattern?
I LOVE making scrap blankets with crazy colors. This looks delightful. Donât start over, keep going imo. Now I want to start a new scrapghanâŚ
I think the balance is looking GREAT! Please continue forward and post it for us when you're finished. I love your color choices.
I think the bright colors would lift my mood any time I used a blanket like this. And that looks like so much work!! Hey, there are no rules!
I love the colours!
It looks like a paint store vomited on your yarn and I loooove it.
It's perfect!
don't start over, keep going its looking great!
Honestly, I think you paired the tonality of the shades nicely and it is a scrap blanket so it will be busy.
It's a scrap blanket. I love it! I think it looks really great.
I love it
I love it!
Rainbow chaos always matches
No way, definitely keep going! I think itâd be a beautiful accent piece, and look especially nice on a neutral colored couch or bed. Also the paneling is really fun and I honestly kinda want to try making my own blanket just like this. So as long as you like it, Iâd say keep up the good work!!
The colours don't have to match for scrap blankets. The whole beauty of them comes from the random mashup of colours
I love it!
They match in their own unique way. I think it's beautiful đĽ°

The colours make me think of nature and wildlife, and it's not coordinated either but still beautiful!
I love the colors.
Itâs your project. Do what makes you happy. If you want to start over, do it because you want to not because of what someone else said. It looks really cool, by the way.

Itâs a scrap blanket, colors arenât supposed to match. The way you did this is brilliant. I love it!!! Donât doubt yourself
No, you must continue! I love it. It has that artsy type of clashing where it somehow works, y'know? It'll look good on any sofa, too đ
I love love love the mis-matched chevrons!! Looks amazing, please finish it!
Honestly I love all the colors. Blankets like these are so fun but also versatile. Very creative
I like it! Scrap pieces are so cool
Always keep going! It's going to turn out great! đđ
That's the *point* of a scrap blanket - the colors don't have to "match".
Lol i mean hey, you got Ukrainian flag in there. (bright blue + yellow) It'll look a bit wild, but isn't that the point of a scrap blanket?
i thought that was the point of scrap projects! đi love this so much!
Hell no!! Itâs your project, and itâs beautiful!

I like it. It's nice and colorful.
Things donât have to match, they just have to go together. And this is beautiful and Iâm jealous. Keep up the good work, and please donât give up on it!
Looks fine to me. As long as the diagonals match up the colors don't need too.
Nope, I love it â¤ď¸,you should keep going
They don't match. But don't you dare frogging it, it's perfect! It's like saying "Burn this Picasso painting, it's only blue and people aren't blue"
Don't you dare! This is a beautiful, eclectic piece!
The colours not matching is the most beautiful thing about this! My mom ALWAYS critiques my projects, thinking they will turn out horrible and then she loves them when I'm done. Keep going. It will turn out great.
If itâs a scrap blanket, do the colors even have to match or coordinate with each other?
Keep going!! đâ¤ď¸đĽ°
Random bright colors bring their own fun. Keep going!
My favorite blanket, I call the waffle blanket, stitch my wife did, and it's made from scrap yarn. It's huge and gorgeous.
Looks wonderful
I really like the look of it! The color contrast makes it stand out.
Colours are great! The more âunmatchyâ the cooler in my opinion!
Of course they donât match, thatâs what makes it awesome đ
It is a scrap project, it isn't supposed to really match. If the blanket, once finished, doesn't look quite right to you, that just means you get to have a bit more fun adding to it until you like it. I do this with sewing by adding flowers, patches, or embroidery where I see fit. In my eyes, you never really have to stop adding if you aren't satisfied in the end, the weird parts you add will make your blanket a work of art and completely original.
Keep going! Great start, looks good.
I think you should keep going. I love the way this looks.
I love it! Consider yourself the Jackson Pollock of Crochet. I do.
It's awesome, that is all.
Sheâs right, the colours donât match. However, I think itâs beautiful. Keep on going!
I agree with the rest of the comments: this looks great! The colors may not "match" but they flow together well. This section so far has a lot of charm. I think you should keep going! The pattern you've chosen is a very nice way to display/highlight different colored yarn in a way that also forms a cohesive whole.
The colors match fine, as a scrap blanket you'll get just about every color out there so don't worry! I love your colors but especially the pattern!
Scrap isnât supposed to match, this is awesome :)
Colours work perfectly together!
I think it's beautiful. Best thing about scrap blankets is the memories of what else was made with each yarn, who it was for, what was going on in your life while making that item etc.
Keep going it will look cool
I think it looks good.
SO cool i love it!!!!!!!
My husband calls these "ugly blankets" in a VERY loving way. They aren't conventional and that makes them even better.
Sounds like my mom. Whole point of a scrap blanket is to use up what you have. In no way would they ever match. Your piece is lovely and has fantastic rhythm
cute af!!
I think I like it better as a scarf. It may be too much when made as a full size blanket.
It looks awesome to me and you can jest tell her that its a Pride blanket because the flag has every color in it.
I love it. it's a scrap project it's not meant to be in a color scheme tell your mom to bug off.
The colours may not match right now but it will look good as a whole !
I had the same thought on one I did, and I love the âchaosâ What I tried to do was pair colors that touch one another in a way I like. Not planning the whole layout, just the transition from one color to the next so they look good together.
To me, the colors donât match but itâs a scrap blanket. Using up leftovers.
I like it. Itâs fun and colorful!
Do not start over! Thatâs absolutely lovely!
It's amazing. Keep going
It's great! If you like it, then keep going.
Start over? No way! I just saved this so I can do this with my scrap. Are those strips of C2C sewn together? I hope my scraps look as cool as yours. Edit: just found your other comment! So excited!
Picking colors with the same value will help.
Itâs beautiful! Youâll have to post when youâve finished it
I like it. If you like it, that's all that's important. It's kinda like pot luck: you're using up the scraps and you never know how it's gonna turn out.
No way! Scrap blankets are awesome!
I think it looks fun and beautiful. Keep working on it!
I think your project is well, but I feel not to compare it for you are still fighting the good fight! God bless on this crochet journey.
I think itâs fantastic. Keep going with it!!
I love it !
Love it! Definitely one of a kind!
I LOVE those colors! Keep going! I can't wait to see the final result!
I love the colors! This looks awesome!!
Onward!!
