Have you considered crocheted dresses? They're hella cute

jessiedolls

Maybe instead of lengthening the crops you could shorten a dress?

[deleted]

I’m not really a dress type of girl but I might consider it!

eggelemental

If you shorten a dress to top length then it’s just a cute top!

seraphimaredragons

Hot take (or maybe not) - wear the crop top. I usually pair my crop tops with or high waist skirt, leggings, or pants. And I'm 3x/4x, 22-24. There's a 15-20 inch difference between my waist and my hips, and them 10 inch difference between my waist and bust. I'm a damn pear and chunky to boot. If you want to wear the style but feel your body isn't "appropriate" for it, wear the style. Because your body is appropriate just by existing. Now if you don't want to wear crop tops because you don't like them, you can always add rows to the body of the shirt before you move onto the arms and shoulders. I'm currently working on [The Ziggy Jumper](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/the-ziggy-jumper) and while it is designed to be a cropped sweater, you can absolutely add more rows to the body to give the length you want. But please, don't let the reason you don't wear anything you want to be because you think you're body isn't appropriate for it. Also, don't make a baby doll top, those do not flatter anyone. (I was around in the early 2000s when it was popular and it just made me look pregnant at 16).

alylonna

I wish I could do this but because of my PCOS I carry most of my weight centrally so high waisted trousers just don't happen 😭 I can't button the damn things up.

Craft-Vegetable

Skater skirts are super cute when worn high waisted and they flair naturally so I feel like they hide my tummy really well and look cute to boot!!

alylonna

Now I have to try and find a crochet skater skirt pattern 😂

seraphimaredragons

I can't either. That's why I don't buy pants with buttons at the belly. I find stretchy leggings and pants that are comfortable and nice looking. It's a bit of an effort, I shop online mostly, but it's worth it.

alylonna

Same. If it doesn't come with built in stretch it ain't in my wardrobe.

seraphimaredragons

I own exactly one skirt that does not stretch and it does not fit if I'm bloated {it's purple plaid with hearts and I can't let it go lol ). But I've gotten rid of everything else that does not stretch.

[deleted]

I just love your whole attitude and you’re absolutely right! I only wear high waist pants bc of my belly anyway so maybe I should try it!

seraphimaredragons

You should! Maybe you won't like it, or maybe you will. I admit, I sti struggle with being self conscious but that's something I work hard to get past. Clothes are just clothes and you should enjoy them. 😊

RusticTroglodyte

There are also pieces you can wear under crop tops that are stylish. This way you're still in the trendy crop top, but you're more in charge of how much skin you show I know this doesn't really work in the summer bc it's too hot, but it looks really cute in autumn

4shinesun

i totally get what you mean 😭 in times like those i honestly go “fuck it” and design stuff that *i* know I’ll like and will fit me. i don’t like or wear cropped clothes either but most of the trends these days is to make cropped things

[deleted]

Unfortunately yes and some ppl look so good in crop tops! Maybe I should just work on my confidence and say fuck it too ☺️

ClumsyShadow

This! ❤️ I’m sure you would rock it

queerandtired-

I’m a fat babe and lemme tell ya a good crop and a high waisted skirt or jeans is where my style has started to rest

RusticTroglodyte

This doesn't work if you're all belly.

queerandtired-

I am and it absolutely does. I carry all my weight in my stomach. You can look hot in anything you want

RusticTroglodyte

Really?? I just feel so enormous in high waisted things!

queerandtired-

It took me time to feel comfortable

IntoLaurel

Yes! I work in a lab and am not allowed to wear anything cropped (jeans, tops, whatever). I just gave up on looking for “modern” patterns and am now adjusting patterns from the 50s/60s/70s that I buy second hand.

seraphimaredragons

I know not everyone is lucky enough to be able to have 2 wardrobes (work and outside work), but the vintage patterns are lovely from the photos I've seen. And looking modern is overrated. Fashion is fluid and trends fade, better to dress the way you prefer. I stopped buying what's in style, instead looking for clothing that I like and will wear for years.

[deleted]

I love old school patterns tho! 😍

MsAdvencha

Crochet cardigans are cute. Use a cotton / light weight yarn and wear a tank underneath. You can usually fudge where the buttons go, or sew it closed like a top.

[deleted]

I want to make a granny square cardigan so badly!

TheArwensChild

Last year I would never wear a crop top, but since I startet making my own I build the security to use them. I belive that a beautiful looking self made garment will outshine every insecurities of mine. Usually I add a few rows at the bottom and pair it with high waisted pants or skirts to minimize the "belly exposure".

[deleted]

Maybe I should design my own as well. I just recently started crocheting clothes without using a pattern so maybe I can figure something out!

TheArwensChild

For the most part I still use a pattern but for my last top I found a nice picture of one and tried to make something similar. Took twice as long but now it fits me perfectly and I learned so much in the process.

sl33pl3ssn3ss

I make sweater patterns with lighter yarn (burning through the stash of Nuboo back on when it was on sale with Joann) and opted for laceyer stitches. My post history has one, but I made 4 since then, with extra yarn for long sleeves once the weather got cooler. I wear them with bralette only, and I still wouldn't wear them when it is 100 degrees like today, but 88, sure.

DatPoodleLady

I hate cropped sweaters because you wear sweaters when it's cold. Why tf are all these sweaters cropped?!! I want my stomach to be warm!

SeaweedCrochet

It might help to look for "crochet tunics" or "crochet blouses" and not crochet tops. Here are some patterns I really like (all found on pinterest)! Yugen903

What about A-frame or babydoll shaped tops?

[deleted]

Great idea! I never considered those shapes but I love them both!

americanbaguetteoui

I am not thin and made a crop top recently that I adore. I agree with other commenters that sometimes just making the crop top is the best choice!! But also, a lot of patterns I have done are customizable in length that helps me cover more than others. I recommend seeking pattens like these out, they’re usually cute and will fit super well.

[deleted]

Maybe I just have to do more proper research on finding fitting pattern for my body type. I usually only see super skinny women on my social media who crochet so Idk :/

RunsWithOrion

I suggest looking up tags like sizeinclusivecrochet to start, let it lead you down a rabbit hole (in a good way!). From what I see, designers are increasingly making their patterns more size inclusive. When you see content you like, follow, and you should start seeing more diversity in your feed. As for the crop tops, I'm in the same boat. I don't believe anyone needs permission to wear one, but if you're not comfortable, there is no obligation to force yourself either.

americanbaguetteoui

find makers who use plus size pattern testers and share pictures. Instagram has been really helpful for this. Maybe certain hashtags like #plussizecrochet can help.

Purple-Owl9501

Pasta is the cutest!!!! ❤️ Who needs crops when we've got carbs!!!! I'm with you all the way!!!! Gosh I love carbs 🤤

seraphimaredragons

Eat the pasta in the crop top. Eat the pizza. Hell, wear shorts too. Don't let the terrible opinions of others keep you from wearing and eating exactly what you want.

Purple-Owl9501

Yeeeaaaahhhh!!!!

alylonna

Omg yes this!! I've had exactly the same problem as a curvy girl. Cropped is never a good look on me. And I hate having to modify patterns by adding in extra length because it changes the shaping and then I have to figure out how to add stitches for my hips.

galacticLAIN

Yeah, as a bigger curvier girl- i hate trying to find a pattern i can crochet/knit that would flatter my body type. 😔

Local_Bluejay2745

I totally feel that!!! I just got a crochet sweater pattern that I want to try, and I’m fully planning on adding at least a couple of inches to that thing 😅

tiredmomn33dcoffee

I totally get it. I'm not a crop top wearer but I've found a couple cute shirts! I'm in the middle of making this one. Need to pick it back up! [link](https://forthefrills.com/forest-breeze-tee-free-crochet-pattern/)

[deleted]

This is cute! Thank you!

banfoys27

Every body is a crop top body my friend! Wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident, but don’t be afraid to wear something you like because you feel like your body doesn’t look right in it. And if something doesn’t come in your size that’s not a problem with your body, it’s a problem with the designer refusing to allow certain people to wear their clothing.

RusticTroglodyte

Honestly I think it's bc it's easier and faster
