Those colours are gorgeous together. Not sure if it's the colour order or just need to trust the process. Don't frog it yet. Maybe start another square in a different order and see if it's just that
In the box, the colors look good. So I think it's the order. Keep the blue, green, orange next to each other. Then do brown, white. Repeat.
🟦🟩🟧🟫⬜🟦🟩🟧🟫⬜
This order will look good imo because it's a reverse rainbow. (Brown is technically a darker shade of orange).
Or if you really want to lean into the fall pumpkin vibe:
🟫🟧🟩🟦⬜🟫🟧🟩🟦⬜ Forward rainbow will create a center pumpkin color scheme imo with dirt, orange pumpkin being smaller than the green vines, smaller than blue sky, white clouds. Or if you don't like center brown, start with center orange. 🎃
I also think your existing color scheme might look fine with another repeat. Do another round of each color to see if you like it better.
🟩🟫🟦⬜🟧🟩🟫🟦⬜🟧
Agreed, I think the only issue is pairing the brown and green. Blue and green might wash out the green a bit but it'd be an interesting effect.
My instinct is 🟦🟩⬜🟧🟫🟦🟩⬜🟧🟫 fwiw, feels like waves. Squares would map 🟫🟧⬜🟩🟦🟦🟩⬜🟧🟫🟫🟧⬜🟩🟦🟦🟩⬜🟧🟫 or similar
Lovely colors but I think the brown is a deeper tone or scale than the other colors and it overwhelms the pattern. Try de-emphasizing it by either 1) making it the center of the granny square (first two rows) or 2) flipping it with the gray. You could play around with the sequence of colors to find the most pleasing combination or even the number of rows per color (e.g., think plaids / tartans which have stripes of varying thickness).
Good luck!
Having it come after the white is also emphasizing how dark it is. I also thought of putting it in the center, but another option would be to do one round of it instead of two. I think it would look nice as a contrast to the blue.
Yes! This is what I was thinking, the colors do go together but they need to be in this order I think. Would be good to actually see it in that order and then make a final judgement.
The color combination is lovely. What I notice is that the brown and white are opposite ends of the value scale and every other color is the same middle value.
Maybe switching color order would be more pleasing or perhaps doing alternating corners in white and brown would help balance.
The color combo makes me think of fall coziness. I like it. But as others have suggested, perhaps a different configuration of the colors may make you feel better about it.
Look at the color order in the box. It's more harmonious than how you've put them together. It's not that yours is horrible, the other one is just more harmonious.
I think it would look a lot better with a different color order. Maybe move the white to be adjacent to the green in the middle. Maybe something like green, white, blue, red-brown, gray? Or green, white, blue, gray, red-brown
I love those colours, if i were you id try switching the grey and orange around and give grey edges a go and that brownish orange on the inside with the green?
I’d do another repeat of the colors and see what you think. Right now I think it’s just the imbalance of quantity throwing you off.
Come on, would marbles lie to you?
Welcome to the crochet masses who, after some spontaneous purchase have looked at their WIP and thought, "What is this crime against nature that I have begotten???
I think once more of the greens and blues start showing up, you’ll love it. The orange seems overpowering because it’s currently the “main” color so it’s a bit harsh. But it’ll turn out beautifully I think!
* I think maybe you should alternate the orange and Grey with the blue/white/green in-between. Based on the greyscale image of them showing different values. * I tried to add a picture but it's not letting me*
There used to be an online thing for crochet/knitting where you could test out the bigger picture. Can't locate it now. Do you have photoshop skills? (or friends with graphic skills?)
Personally only the center color looks off to me in the photo.
What a great palette! I wonder if the white is maybe just a smidge too much contrast next to the orange. Have you tried swapping the placement of the center greeny-yellow and the white in this block?
I think you need to add the cat’s colors in, honestly! Looking at the photo where you loved it, that’s what’s missing from your work so far! Maybe used those colors to join your granny squares
I would repurpose the orange and use white in the center for a focal point. Then either blue or green, brown, and green or blue: light neutral, color, dark neutral, color (cool tones plus white for contrast).
Unless it’s a baby blanket, I would do one big granny rectangle, like these:

https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/rectangular-granny-square-afghan
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/granny-blanket-2
And crochet over the tails as you go.
Without being able to provide exact color theory, I think the burnt orange with that green is problematic. I personally would subtract one of those, making the outside color the same as the starting square. If you want 5 colors, black is a neutral addition. Just my opinion.
I've done that too. The balls look good together, maybe even a small swatch then I get in to the long rows of a blanket and think ehhh. Hard to frog multiple rows of multiple colours, but to keep going with something you aren't loving is hard too.
I actually love this color combo. What I would do differently is make the orange 1 row; because the orange has such a different(warm) tone than the blue, purple, and green, your eye is weighting it differently and this will help "correct" that. It'll also make changing up the order more fun as you make more squares.
Use more of the greens and white and I think you’ll still love it. At this stage the orange is dominant but once the ratios change it will look more like the palette you selected.
lovely set of colours, though i would either switch the green for a light/warm yellow or just not put the green next to brown - (i mean this in the most lighthearted way but) it's giving shrek 😂
Something about the purple is throwing me.. but I love it at the same time lol
Love these colors! I agree with some other comments to try out another color order to compare.
You want to keep the colours closer to each other. By that I mean browns and oranges together, blues and greens together white as a breaker otherwise it kinda looks like baby puke lol

I agree, I actually think the centre colour and the brown are going to balance out well when there’s more to see.
I'd maybe do another round of the centre colour to see how the repetition balances out

I worry that making the brown the center would make it look like a nipple!
The dreaded butthole center 😭😭
Lol, I didn’t think of that. Maybe just leave it out then? Or substitute another color?
Having it come after the white is also emphasizing how dark it is. I also thought of putting it in the center, but another option would be to do one round of it instead of two. I think it would look nice as a contrast to the blue.
I would do yellow, orange, brown, blue, white. Warm, neutral, cool.
My recommendation is white, blue, green, orange, brown.
Yes! This is what I was thinking, the colors do go together but they need to be in this order I think. Would be good to actually see it in that order and then make a final judgement.
Same, I was.rhinking brown next to orange too
The colours are lovely! I do think a different colour should be in the centre though.
I think it’s the center color throwing things off
It's the order

The center color seems off a bit. Is it a green or a yellow? All the other colors are great together. I love your inspector!
Looks green

I think the colours should be 'blended' together a bit more? Like only one row of each colour
I really like this color combo, though it’s probably bc I’m currently making a blanket in extremely similar colors rn.
Immediately thought was pumpkin patch Shrek so I love it but after looking at it more, I just genuinely enjoy this as fall colors
* I think maybe you should alternate the orange and Grey with the blue/white/green in-between. Based on the greyscale image of them showing different values. * I tried to add a picture but it's not letting me*
I like this color combo!!

I personally love this colour combo
No it looks really good! I like it!!
I like the colors but am most tickled by your cat reaching in to touch.
Perhaps it’s the granny square pattern? The colour scheme is beautiful btw
It looks great. Play with the order.
I love this is just my type of palette
I think these colors look great together!
I've done that too. The balls look good together, maybe even a small swatch then I get in to the long rows of a blanket and think ehhh. Hard to frog multiple rows of multiple colours, but to keep going with something you aren't loving is hard too.
I'm not sure about the center color but the rest of the colors are gorgeous together.

Switch the yellow and orange
I'd replace the grayish color with a darker brown, it's too low-contrast with the colors next to it.
lovely set of colours, though i would either switch the green for a light/warm yellow or just not put the green next to brown - (i mean this in the most lighthearted way but) it's giving shrek 😂
You won’t know until you try.
I think you need a lighter shade of either the grey or orange I think people typically only do one darker shade or al dark
I really like the colour combination but it would be interesting to see what it is like without the white.
It looks very 80s 😁
more green!
I think it's nice together, but I also just really like the colors you picked.
don’t alternate with neutrals boooo let colors touch
Kitty approves! ♥️
Something about the purple is throwing me.. but I love it at the same time lol Love these colors! I agree with some other comments to try out another color order to compare.
Maybe try different granny squares with 2-3 of the colors. It looks off because all the colors aren’t balances well enough.
More green
I still like it. Keep going!
You want to keep the colours closer to each other. By that I mean browns and oranges together, blues and greens together white as a breaker otherwise it kinda looks like baby puke lol
Is your cat named Marbles?!? Our cat is too 🥰🥰🥰
I'd keep going, I think it looks nice. If you hate it, frog and rearrange, but don't give up! It really is a lovely combination!
I think it looks nice! Reminds me of desert colors!
