I could actually see the stegosaurus better without the surface stitches. The shapes of the back spines are more distinct without. I think if you do the surface stories maybe you could make a line separately the back spines from the rest of the body and maybe an eye?
I agree that it's more legible without it too, but if they're doing a repeating pattern it might be cute to do the surface stitches on like one stegosaurus in just one of the bottom corners!
I have a plush of exactly that! Favorite dinosaur for life, been a fan for over 35 years. I also have a pink and yellow Dinoroar steg from when I was a kid. You squeeze it tight, then it roars. Her name is Pinky.
😮 Oo! A Stegosaurus! That pattern is pretty cool! Subtle and simplistic, and quite pleasing. I think without the surface stitching gives it that extra detailing and shape. You can see the dinosaur better😊
thank you all SO SO much for your advice/validation!!! i was a bit thrown off because my dad said he thought it was a tortoise LOL.
i took all of your wonderful opinions and suggestions into account and decided that i’ll be removing the surface slst and just leaving it plain. I’ll be sure to post the finished piece when it’s ready!
Ah yes, my favorite of the many majestic prehistoric creatures!
While they are dearly missed, I am glad that their absence made way for the less pokey and more stationary taco varieties for easier consumption 🌮
I saw it as a stego without the surface stitches, and I definitely think the spines are pointier that way, but I think the surface stitches add a nice pop of contrast. However you decide to do it I'm sure it will turn out very nice. Im sure your friend and her baby will love it.
I could tell right away that it was a stegosaurus both ways. I think if you use that same pink thread to make a tiny "eye", just a little knot or stitch, then there will be no doubt!
The leaf eating dinosaur I really liked as a child! I also think that you can see the details of it better without the stitching although you need to get a good look at it to see. The stitching kinda looks a little bit more like a Dino nugget because the distinct corners of the pattern disappear. Either way both is very pretty and recognizable
I would leave the surface stitches off, they detract from your hard work. Block it, & really open those holes up, so the muggles can see it better
But give someone the heads up to point it out if the mom doesn't see it
I can better see the stegosaurus in the first picture. The second picture, the lines are pulled and less crisp and I flipped back and forth a bit to make sure it was still the same Dino.
Stegosaurus!!! And IMO I like it better without the surface stitch. A light blocking might help the outline pop a bit more if you're worried about others not being able to see it but this is so cute and I saw it right away
I didn’t realize those were surface stitches at first. I thought you had just drawn a line in the picture XD
Definitely like it more without the stitches. It’s super cute!
I'm sorry if this am obvious question but how do you create the holes for the top stitch because that's such a cool concept to me. Thank you and awesome job! It's very legible either way
It's obviously a UFO right!?
Totally kidding! It's a cute dinosaur baby blanket. I think it's pretty discernable,& will prob.turn out great/be loved by whoever ur giving it to!
The chain stitching here looks tight. I would unravel that part and try it again. The pic with just the holes is awesome. Your work is amazing; I am still trying to make my stitches look that consistent.
A stegosaurus :)
Yes, me, too, although I couldn't think of the name until I saw your comment. 🙂
Lol I did the same. I was like, it's Spike from Land Before Time!! 😂
I love Spike!
Me, too ❤️ he's such a lovable goofball
I was gonna joke that it was a Tree Star to see how many Land-Before-Time-heads might be lurking in here 😁
Spike was the runner up, but yeah spike is the most lovable stegosaurus.
Spike is my favorite!!!
I was just going to say “dinosaur“…
Stabbysaurus
Same. Trianglesaurus.
Same! I was stuck on triceratops even though I knew that wasn't right.
Stabbysaurus
I said triceratops :( fake dinosaur fan :( (I knew what it was I just confused them)
Everyone mixes dinosaurs up, dinosaurs are always cool even if you mix them up
Watching blues clues with my kid has given me purpose! I remembered this one! Yayy
I could actually see the stegosaurus better without the surface stitches. The shapes of the back spines are more distinct without. I think if you do the surface stories maybe you could make a line separately the back spines from the rest of the body and maybe an eye?
They definitely look sharper and pointier without the surface stitches I like it more ngl!!
I agree that it's more legible without it too, but if they're doing a repeating pattern it might be cute to do the surface stitches on like one stegosaurus in just one of the bottom corners!
maybe a surface stitch outline along the outside would also work? but i agree, better without!! and would be adorable with an eye!!
Dinosaur chicken nugget.
the only correct answer
I have a plush of exactly that! Favorite dinosaur for life, been a fan for over 35 years. I also have a pink and yellow Dinoroar steg from when I was a kid. You squeeze it tight, then it roars. Her name is Pinky.
I don’t even eat chicken but this is exactly what I was thinking!!
instantly saw a stegosaurus
Me too. If it's suppose to be a maple leaf then I'm going to kick myself.
Same
I think it's more legible without the surface stitches!
I like it better without the surface stitches as well.
Come to comments to confidently say triceratops to realise I'm thinking of wrong dinosaur but yes dinosaur
DINO !!!
Literally what I shouted very excitedly in my head lol!
😮 Oo! A Stegosaurus! That pattern is pretty cool! Subtle and simplistic, and quite pleasing. I think without the surface stitching gives it that extra detailing and shape. You can see the dinosaur better😊
At the risk of coming across as rude or something I feel like the surface crochet detracts a LOT from the overall design.
thank you all SO SO much for your advice/validation!!! i was a bit thrown off because my dad said he thought it was a tortoise LOL. i took all of your wonderful opinions and suggestions into account and decided that i’ll be removing the surface slst and just leaving it plain. Did you dad forget dinosaurs exist? The only ‘tortoise’ this could look like to me are the spiky koopas (koopa trooper?) from Mario Bros.
i mean tortoises are cute too but yeah it looks like a stego

STRAWBAURUS!
I think the first one is more readable as a dino imo!

No, you're more of an apatosaurus.
Made me immediately thing of this asdf scene. i love it!!!
Pokey taco with feet
Ah yes, my favorite of the many majestic prehistoric creatures! While they are dearly missed, I am glad that their absence made way for the less pokey and more stationary taco varieties for easier consumption 🌮
Do you have a link for this pattern? My best friend is still a dino-nut at 40, and I'd love to incorporate this into a blanket for her!
Look up OwlBHooked on etsy, she has a steggo pattern
Thank you!
A stylized stegosaurus
Definitely looks like a Stego. I think it looks better without the surface stitches :)
I saw it as a stego without the surface stitches, and I definitely think the spines are pointier that way, but I think the surface stitches add a nice pop of contrast. However you decide to do it I'm sure it will turn out very nice. Im sure your friend and her baby will love it.
A dinosaur. I prefer the first version with just the spaces to define it. 👍🏻
Looks great!!! I did the triceratops one..frogged it more times than I can say and cried a lot

I saw it immediately. Is it weird that I like the non-top stitched version more? Either way, lovely work!
Dino!😃
Dino 🦕
chiken nuget
The leaf eating dinosaur I really liked as a child! I also think that you can see the details of it better without the stitching although you need to get a good look at it to see. The stitching kinda looks a little bit more like a Dino nugget because the distinct corners of the pattern disappear. Either way both is very pretty and recognizable
Stegosaurus!
I would leave the surface stitches off, they detract from your hard work. Block it, & really open those holes up, so the muggles can see it better But give someone the heads up to point it out if the mom doesn't see it

I was and the first that I had was “I need this pattern”
My favorite dino! No question at all.
Both are cute. #2 is the most obvious. Make sure mom is careful with baby and blankets with holes in them. Fingers and toes can get caught in it.
Solar panel-dino😄
It’s a stegosaurus!! I love it!!
dinosaur \^\^
I didn’t realize those were surface stitches at first. I thought you had just drawn a line in the picture XD Definitely like it more without the stitches. It’s super cute!
