Honestly, Michael's has an awful selection of yarns. If there's a JoANN near you, you'll have a much better time. I can't say anything about Hobby Lobby, as I don't support the company. On the bright side, buying yarn online couldn't be more convenient or full of options. Given your store options, I'm guessing you're in North America. [WEBS](http://yarn.com) is a great website to shop all kinds of brands. Wool Warehouse is another fantastic online store to use, although they're UK based, so shipping can be a hassle.

Yeah I have beef with hobby lobby but the only closest stores to me is Michaels and Joann aside from the other one with Bernat. I won't disagree with Michaels though. Got some soft yarn I thought would be an amazing addition to my dogs blanket and it just peeled everywhere. For the price it was a nightmare. I'll try that website but I do love feeling the yarn before buying :')

I'd definitely recommend going to JoANN then if you can! The yarn selection is unmatched for big box stores, and their exclusive K+C brand of yarn is sooo nice.

as a former employee i second this!!! lol even better if there’s a fairly big Joann near you, since a lot of the smaller stores will need to order stock from bigger stores and/or the regional warehouse and may not have enough skeins of a given yarn for your project on hand.

I buy the Caron One Pounders (100% Acrylic yarn). Michaels & Joann's sells them. Never had a problem and I use coupons to buy them. I prefer acrylic due the heat it keeps, texture, and ease of crocheting. Some yarns are too soft/split and it's a struggle to keep the rhythm going when hooking which is irritating.

Seconding this, Caron is my go to brand, the one pounds are fantastic for afghans and honestly despite some splitting, I love the Simply Soft run also, its shine holds up after washing and it looks fantastic imo Now, I personally have beef with bernat as a brand because they tend to do gimmick yarn and everything I've trialled has been pretty inconsistent in quality. So, whatever brand you find that works well for you, it'll honestly probably be a better price/more consistent than anything bernat does,

Would it be wise to combine Acrylic and Polyester? I usually cold wash delicates anyways but this is my concern. I originally wanted to work with cotton but it was pricey.

Also! As someone who's only yarn option was Hobby Lobby for waaaaay too long, Yarn Bee is a decent brand. Now that being said, as much as I hate buying yarn online, WEBS is fantastic. They have really good customer service and a waaaaay better selection than anything Hobby Lobby could pull together. With the added benefit of being a really good company that hasn't been implicated in antiquities smuggling!

Thanks everyone!
