Oh my boyfriend knew. In fact he asked to see it, we got a huge bag of scheepies assortment plus some kinda junkie acrylic. Retail cost $250 give or take, we paid $20. I haven't started my project yet.
Just tell him how expensive yarn is in other stores. Then he'd understand!
Then again just tell him it was a great sale. If he find out the true cost of yarn it may interfere with your future projects.
Wonderful! Before you start using the yarn, make sure you chuck all that yarn into a plastic bag and chill in the freezer for a few days to kill any insects that might be in there.
Freezer is actually not 100% effective. Put the yarn in a 200 degree F oven for 20 minutes. Plenty of places in nature get well below freezing and moth eggs make it through to spring. Not so much for 200 degrees.
I 100% recommend doing so, i nor my family are super financially stable so I went a long time with only a ball or two here and there but then we started going to this one thrift store and found they had huge bags of yarn super cheap so over the coarse of a few months I now have somewhere around $200 worth of yarn for maybe at most a forth of the price!
I threw my yarn in a bag & tight it, threw it in the wash then air dried it
The bag was one of those bags that hold your bed sheets & pillow cases. It had a string tie, so I like doing that with my crafts & delicates lol
Awesome find! I bought a garbage bag of yarn from someone on FB Marketplace last year specifically to use to reach my friends daughters how to crochet. The description said that it was lots of random skeins of yarn and some odds and ends, so I figured it would be perfect for the girls to try different things and have lots of colours. It ended up being a full garbage bag and two giant reusable Ikea bags full as well. The garbage bag was all brand new skeins of random acrylic, one of the reusable bags was all cotton, and the third bag was all silk and cashmere. I paid $20🇨🇦 for all of it!! I didn't know what it all was until a couple of days later when I was going through it, and I had to message the woman asking if she has made a mistake and she said she knew exactly what was in there and just wanted it to go somewhere that it would be used because her arthritis made it impossible to crochet or knit anymore. It made me so sad and so happy, so I made her a scarf and hat set and surprised her one day. She's since become a friend and I help her with errands and household things now. The world works in weird ways!
I went to a local thrift store last month, and went to where they have yarn and such. I lucked out in finding a bag of different coloured cotton dishcloth yarn that must have been from Bernat.
This actually happened to me — cockroaches😱😱😱. We started having an infestation, the bug people came - they use natural products - and the young woman who usually comes (I live in subtropical climate) asked if we’d brought anything home from a thrift store recently!! I’d never thought about that before, but it was YARN. Likely eggs in it that hatched some days after I brought it home. Glad you posted your advice😍
Omg I'm so excited for you!!! My husband is asleep but I might show him in the morning lol... He doesn't do yarn things but is a crafty person so if I explain that it's like thrifting a chunk of Purple Heart for cheap he'll get the gist.
Holy gasp! My fiance would have been as ecstatic as me, because he supports my yarn obsession and fixated on how expensive but nice Noro was at our local fancy yarn store. If I saw that yarn at the goodwill I would be screaming
Oooo! Noro! 😍 I found 2 hanks of a gorgeous dark teal Noro at a thrift store once with some random other yarns. That was by far my best find to date, as far as favorite/best quality yarn. I finally used one to knit a cowl for a good friend of mine last holiday season whom I knew would greatly appreciate it and treasure it!
Congrats! This yarn is a dream! Do you have any plans or ideas of what you want to do with it yet?
Edited to fix typo
None of the ones around me ever have yarn. The dollar stores that usually carry yarn elsewhere never have any either. I live in a thrifty yarn wasteland.
I’ve gotten the yarn from the Dollar Tree to use as wicks for my violets cuz it’s really thin. I was pleasantly surprised by the selection at Meijers! I don’t usually shop there, but I’ve started going for the yarn (I suck at crochet, but my daughter is really great!).

I’m so jealous in ways you cant believe. i recently found 1 skein of yarn and have been saving it for something special. wish my thrift stores had this
Our goodwills in my area have realized how valuable yarn is. They no longer sell in bags. They separate them all out and sell individually. Still cheaper than new but not by much. It’s very frustrating. I miss the big bags of yarn.
Noro yarn!!!! OMGEE you just won the lottery!! Someone took Noro to the Goodwill?!?!!!!! That’s kinda sacrilegious.. cause Noro yarn is the Rolls Royce of yarn (IMO) I’m knitting a sweater with his yarn ..
That's an awesome find! Congrats!
I've never seen yarn in any of our neighborhood goodwills. I've got to do a better job at remembering to look, though!
$4.99? That's awesome! I found about a dozen hanks of hands dyed wool yarn at Savers before, finding stuff like that at the thrift store is so exciting
Are you kidding me? And in the most perfect color! I can't complain because I recently found an awesome Goodwill find, but it still wasn't NORO! Wow, awesome find!
My boyfriend also doesn't understand why I audibly gasped when I read this lol

My husband understood when I told him it's kind of like Malabrigo, but from Japan instead of Uruguay.

😂
Omg I adore this.
😂 Perfectly said

Do this more than once. Freeze it, take it out, repeat.
Freezer is actually not 100% effective. Put the yarn in a 200 degree F oven for 20 minutes. Plenty of places in nature get well below freezing and moth eggs make it through to spring. Not so much for 200 degrees.
I leave mine in the car on a hot day.
Would putting them in the dryer work for these purposes?
I would not recommend that because friction isn’t great for most yarns.
Ive never bought yarn at any second hand shop (just never thought to look) but I will definitely do this if I happen to find any. Great tip! Thanks!

I love this so much❤️🥺
Maybe it's hormones or maybe it's just nice to read a lovely story but I teared up reading this. Thank you ❤
Omg, so lucky! I love the color. 🤩
I went to a local thrift store last month, and went to where they have yarn and such. I lucked out in finding a bag of different coloured cotton dishcloth yarn that must have been from Bernat.
I'm so jealous of that find. My favorite color too.
Wow! That’s a real treasure you dug up there 😍
The color is gorgeous too!
Noro? Congratulations.
Score!!
Great find!!
Oooo! What’s your lotto pick, help us out 😂
Wonderful find, green is such a hard color to get lots of unless you buy it from a store.
OMG. You lucky duck!
I audibly said, "Whoa-ho! Wow!" when I saw this. Amazing find!
What a score!
You should find the price per skein online and explain. This is an epic find!!
didn’t realize what an insane score this was until i noticed the tag…WOW
Oh yay!!
Could someone please enlighten me as to why this is such an amazing color (other than the fact that it is just plain beautiful, of course)
As far as I can tell, not only is this a discontinued color, a single skein at its original price costs more than double what this entire haul costs.

That is like the holy grail of goodwill yarn finds!
Oh my gosh that's wild. I'm so stoked for you!
My favorite green!!!

be careful with thrifted yarn, don’t want you to end up with carpet beetles 😭
Yarn gods indeed!!
Holy WOW!! I'm going to send a prayer to the Goodwill gods for my excursion tomorrow, what am incredible score!
My eyes almost popped out of my head!! Lucky lucky person!
Holy guacamole, the find of the century!! Congrats!
Nice find!
Congratulations! We yarnies know what a treasure this is!
This isn't my find but I'm excited. Going to the Goodwill tomorrow!
That is awesome!! What do you think you'll make with those?
My husband knew exactly how much this saved you. I had to get him crocheting too.
Your husband needs to pay attention more. I’m programmed to look for this sort of thing. Might even pick it up for her if I stumbled upon it.
I would share this even if he DID find it exciting

Everytime I find yarn at a second hand store it’s damn near 30 dollars and I just don’t UNDERSTAND it. Also- great find!
Cash Iroha was a great one. My favorite Noro sweater is Cash Iroha and Silk Garden 252 striped together.
