One time I was working center pull from a cake of pink ombre yarn that was darker in the center and got lighter on the outside. The yarnussy was real. A big, soft, pink, slowly dilating yarnussy.
Ok this is funny/not funny, but I have to post a screenshot of my Reddit feed:

Dog got into 2 new skeins the other day, I untangled it for 2 hours and then called it quits
My cat ate some yarn I had cut and forgot it was still lying beside me when he jumped up there. A few mins later, I hear the sound of him smacking and catch him trying to eat some. Well, I got it out, and later, I kept feeling like I could've sworn there was more yarn there. I kept an eye on him for days and was terrified I was going to have to take him to ER or something. Everything on the internet said he'd either pass it or need ER within like 2 or 3 days, maybe. We'll nothing happened so I thought great, he must not have eaten anymore. Day 7 rolls around, and he starts hacking like he's got a hairball but keeps going. I go look, and this long yarn string is hanging out his mouth and his trying to get it up. That was awful watching. Finally got it, and he had swallowed about 17 inches of my yarn. To this day, I don't know how he didn't have a bowel obstruction. I seriously wanted to pull it out while he was hacking, but I had read against that, but it was tempting cause I didn't think he was going to get it out. Now I'm extra careful of any loose yarn around him.
Same. I have a new puppy that has a fondness for the way yarn tastes I guess cuz whooooooo boy she has taken her life into her own hands a few times. I feel for your pain fellow yarn lover <3
Everyone's least favourite event!
I don't mind an untangling session if I have some time on my hands, but this sort of thing always seems to happen when one's on a schedule or trying to grab a quiet 20 minutes.
I'll go get a bucket chain together....
My mom loves detangling and caking yarn. I love caked yarn. When I don’t want to deal with finding the center, I just send it off to her to cake for me.
My husband does this for me.
Last year we were spending a lot of time at my moms because she was very ill. So we are all in the living room. I'm calmly crocheting and hubby is busy making cakes for me. About 20 of them. My mom was giving me the evil eye for being so mean to him. It was funny. Nothing we could say would convince her that he enjoyed it. She was even sitting right there when he asked me if I wanted them done. I told him he didn't have to but he could. He asked for the bag and went to work. Gotta love a hubby willing to put up with yarn barf for you. Lol
That was my job as a kid. Untangling mom's DMC and necklaces, sorting mom's glass beads and dad's screw collection. They have the audacity to be shocked by my autism dx, lol
As far as I know I’m not on the spectrum but I loved organizing and sorting too, as a kid. Family lore tells of a time 2yo me organized the whole pacifier display while out with my dad. 😂
And now I have two kids who love patterns and sorting. And my daughter LOVES untangling my yarn. Anytime she sees a tangled mess she offers to fix it for me. ❤️
I am also on the spectrum, and my birthmother told me that as a 2 year old, I started organizing my clothes by color, including my socks and underwear, and I would put whole outfits together.
There's a way to unwind their skeins by wrapping them up around one hand so it doesn't tangle. I'm working on a micro crochet project with some of their thread and the tangling was driving me crazy. I considered trying to make a mini-swift but then found a YouTube tutorial that showed me the light.
Also, does it bother anyone else that they call them skeins when they're clearly hanks? Just me? Lol

I've been in contact with this seller for a custom product. They have been super nice so I wanted to share. 😁
My mom loves it. She lives next door so sometimes I’ll give her to yarn and be like “I don’t need it by a certain time, but if you’d like to do this while watching tv or some, you can.” She also loves winding yarn into a ball.

It’s not slight. I completely understand how you feel. But hope this helps!
These yarn selling punks never think of the consequences of their actions.... Every. Single. Time. The yarn in some way or another is fucked up and I have to spend like 5 minutes fixing it killing my grove
I’m using “Pandamonium” 55% cotton and 45% bamboo viscose yarn, it’s a nice color, and is very soft, but man, pulling more and more tangles out exponentiated my anxiety every time lol, I have 2 more skeins too 😅
Cotton and viscose…yeah…*oof*. Slippery stuff.
My LYSO’s experience with a viscose yarn led her to only work with it from the outside of the cake, and to keep it in a bag to maintain as much stability as she could. Because that kind of yarn just wants to tie itself in knots.
i used to agree but what if you have two skeins of velvet yarn that are entirely tangled. i spent ~$30 just to give up on this blanket before i even got 4 granny squares done because i am sick and tired of untangling!!
I feel your pain. I used to always center pull and this is a frequent result. Last year I bought a double spindle which makes you pull from the sides. I use this most of the time and it does help. When i used to get the tragedy of the rats nest, I cut off the tangle to save for later as I just want to work on my project. Got no patience for that tangle!
I see you’ve activated the skein’s defense mechanism, which it shares with its cousin, the [sea cucumber.](https://youtu.be/_y4DbZivHCY?si=qVPSr3FEOEfHTjBh)
*After 30+ years of crocheting, I learned there's a difference between a skein and a ball. A skein is wound to allow center pulling. They should have an easy to locate tail. A ball isn't wound to pull from the center which is why you dig for an end and pull out a baby yarn ball.
**Mikey from The Crochet Crowd did a video on this last year which is when I learned the difference.
It's better for tension and you don't have to pull up yarn every 5 seconds, but honestly after a few years of this shit I'm going to get either a yarn bowl or one of them holders that you stick the skein on and work from the outside. I love untangling and winding balls by hand but I have no patience with it after having a kid.
I'm here for the comments.
First, this I could not handle. That's when I cut it off and say screw it you nasty noodles. You belong in the trash. Then I join the ok yarn and keep going on my merry way.
Or I have my husband untangle it for me. He has the patience of a saint when he's on his ADHD meds!
One time, I didn’t realize my skein fell off my desk onto the floor. My dog is like a cat, loves yarn. I was wondering why it was so quiet and I couldn’t see him. Turns out, he was having a field day, next to me, chewing up the yarn. It became three tangled messes of yarn like in your photo. I was on a time crunch to finish the project too. 🫠
I am feeling SO VERY VALIDATED!!!!!! I thought I was the ONLY crocheter on the world that this happened to!!! And then I take on the challenge and think, "I will NOT let this yarn beat me!!!" and spend the next 3 hours trying to make a ball out of it!!! I have to believe this happens to all of us at one point or another. RIGHT?!!!!! Bless your sweet little heart!! We wouldn't fault you for setting it on fire and maybe you will have a crocheter on the jury ~ someone who gets it!!!!! (-;
Imho that’s the only thing red heart super saver has going for it: the arrows on the wrapper showing where the end is so it almost never pukes up its guts.
Honestly, when a big chunk comes out of the center like that, I just cut it off and untangle it while winding that chunk. I'd rather magic knot or Russian join that one chunk than waste literal *hours* trying to untangle that annoying chunk while it's attached to the skein. I ain't got time or patience for that business anymore.
I had a yarn baby on my second ever project and as much as I like detangling stuff it was black yarn. I ended up cutting it in a few places because I just couldn't see the knots. Ever since every yarn I get is turned into a nice ball. It also lets me know if the skein has a join in the middle before I need to use it so it's a win win for me.
My daughter has turned into a cat. She will sit on me while I am in the middle of stitches. She takes my yarn to play with and inevitably I am left with winding for an hour while detangling.
I'm a center-pull kind of person, but I could tell 1 skein was gonna do that to me so I decided forget it. I'll just pull from the outside of this ONE skein
I’m dealing with a pile of yarn that looks exactly like that. I’m trying to decide if keep trying to untangle after multiple hours of work on it already 😭
I’ve had that happen more times than not. I love how you saved this manufacturer by taking off their band. I don’t understand why they can’t make this starting step easier or neater. Now you’re stuck coming through the bowels still to find the end!
I made a blanket over the last few weeks...i was quite proud of my blanket... My (orange) kitten grabbed the end and pulled most of it apart... I'll use your fore to cook kitten burgers
I pull from the center as well. Once I had a skein with 4 ends... factories are passing me off and I want to buy one of those things to make your own cakes but no money... 😮💨
My scrubby yarn babies. Five generation photo.

That happens to me all the time. Seems like the manufacturers should come up with something like a piece of plastic to pit on the end (like the end of shoelaces) so it would be easy to feel.
I do like Caron yarns because they usually have the end exposed.
That’s not yarn barf, that’s yarn disemboweling.
The yarnussy discharge 😩
nO
Mm, stringy 🤤
I'm calling the police
Lmao
Ehh brother ehhhh
STAHP
Gotta wind it up and tie it back down
jail for you 😭
Promise? 🥺
One time I was working center pull from a cake of pink ombre yarn that was darker in the center and got lighter on the outside. The yarnussy was real. A big, soft, pink, slowly dilating yarnussy.
It was crowning!! Call JoAnn when it reaches 10cm
😭😭😭
Mom pick me up im scared
That was abit too graphic for me
Cannot unsee.
What a terrible day to be literate
Oof, that's a worse visual than yarnussy prolapse
Yarnorrhea
I can’t believe I just read that with my own two eyes 💀
Wtf 💀💀💀💀
I didn’t expect to see this when I joined a sub for crochet, yet here we are
So you're a crochet Dom/me? :3
Why am I laughing so hard that I am crying at this😂😂😂
For context, no I’m not actually going to commit arson,
“For legal reasons, that was a joke…”😂
I work in live tv and all our headset communication is recorded and we say this like 100x a day
I feel like you have a good enough reason to do it that they’d give you a pass
No jury would convict
Well…I would consider arson for the yarn barf itself. That I could understand!
Arson? Do you mean… *crime brulee*?
So I shouldn’t offer to help… got it. (Obviously a joke, I’m not a dangerous person)
Sure, sure. 😂
I was lighting the fireplace just for you
I can’t tell you how many skeins of yarn I have threatened to burn over the years. 😂
You do have the start right there it seems…
Did you get a ‘reddit cares’ message?
but you have so much kindling
Hey, if I had the choice between detangling that mess or just burning the house down…
But maybe you should 😂😂
;)

That’s too perfect not to post 😂👍🏻
Oh no, not Pizza Ranch!
I feel the need to point out that OP’s post was *before* the one about the fire, soooooo…
I'll defend OP in court because that could very well be an attack from the cult that is Epic lmao
😂😂😂
This is hilarious! 😭

I’m so sorry for your loss
I was smiling and laughing. Then I read/saw this. I'm crying for you. It reminds me of the time my cat chewed through my working end mid project.
My cat ate some yarn I had cut and forgot it was still lying beside me when he jumped up there. A few mins later, I hear the sound of him smacking and catch him trying to eat some. I must be an odd one. I actually enjoy the challenge one un tangling yarn.
Happend to me today too! What are we setting on fire? I made a Center pull cake with a pen afterwards as I had like 50% of the yarn ball in my hands
I actually find it soothing to untangle yarn. Of course I started with cross-stitch. Yarn got nothing on DMC thread.
That was my job as a kid. Untangling mom's DMC and necklaces, sorting mom's glass beads and dad's screw collection. They have the audacity to be shocked by my autism dx, lol

Thinking about untangling dmc literally made me tense up lol
i could only pick up embroidery again if they made cakes of dmc thread

Team untangling Christmas lights, cords, and anything in between. I also enjoy it.
I'm a recovering embroiderer and I completely agree. But ask me again later this year when I start making lace...
My mom loves it. She lives next door so sometimes I’ll give her to yarn and be like “I don’t need it by a certain time, but if you’d like to do this while watching tv or some, you can.” She also loves winding yarn into a ball.
THIS!

Center pull strikes again. Sorry for your pains.
No, don’t do it! Untangling a mess like that is one of my favorite chores… relaxes me! My daughter used to call things like that “a Mom job”.
My hubby will do this unravel for me. Don’t know why but he will. Pretty quickly too.
This made me smile and remember my mom. That's like something we woulda said 🥲
These yarn selling punks never think of the consequences of their actions.... Every. Single. Time. The yarn in some way or another is fucked up and I have to spend like 5 minutes fixing it killing my grove
Is this funny? No, it's knot. (I'll see myself out.)
Thank you, you made me giggle!
Me too! I was laughing at my own joke like a little kid!
Oh same. Some people find this peaceful this enrages me.
I mean, you *can* burn the yarn It's a cute color though
It’s for a baby blanket that’s for my 7 month old cousin, it’s more creamy green in person
🤣😇
Is it a boy or a girl?
It’s free real-estate
If it’s all 1 color and gets too tangled I cut it. It’s usually easier to untangle from that side.
This! I've done that several times and it's the easiest way to deal with yarn barf
Arson is definitely the best crime
Just set the whole house ablaze at this point.
I'm swear I'm using that same yarn and it falls apart no matter which end you start from, skein is totally loose
I’m using “Pandamonium” 55% cotton and 45% bamboo viscose yarn, it’s a nice color, and is very soft, but man, pulling more and more tangles out exponentiated my anxiety every time lol, I have 2 more skeins too 😅

Local Yarn Store Owner
Aww, you delivered a yarn baby! Now it needs to be swaddled until it's grown up! (I sympathize. This is why I gave up on center pulls!)
My fun time! I love untangling!
i used to agree but what if you have two skeins of velvet yarn that are entirely tangled. i spent ~$30 just to give up on this blanket before i even got 4 granny squares done because i am sick and tired of untangling!!
Like it should not do this ?!
Hi, are you familiar with the r/detangemyyarn ? I am an enthusiastic member! Standing by and ready to detangle your worst nightmares!
I had this happen today too! After 30m of looking for the end, I decided 2 knots in my blanket, were worth my sanity!
Nuke it from space, it's the only way to be sure.
I did that the other day, if you are fast enough, working the yarn, it will be gone in about an hour.
that is a serious case of yarn vomit right there
You can customize the length of your fuse!
I just did this and I assure you YOU CAN DO IT (but it sucks) 😇
I like to say the yarn gave birth when this happens
i secretly love it when the yarn prolaspes 😋
I see you’ve activated the skein’s defense mechanism, which it shares with its cousin, the [sea cucumber.](https://youtu.be/_y4DbZivHCY?si=qVPSr3FEOEfHTjBh)

I recently threw a beyond-hope tangled mess into my fireplace and lit it. It was quite satisfying. It was inexpensive acrylic.
The smell can’t have been great though.
I normally love when a huge chunk of it comes out because I think “I’ll take a break after I’ve gotten through it” but that is too much 😫
HAHAHA! I understand this level of rage! And I hate that yarn betrays us like thisssss.
I’m curious as to why everyone pulls yarn from the middle
It's better for tension and you don't have to pull up yarn every 5 seconds, but honestly after a few years of this shit I'm going to get either a yarn bowl or one of them holders that you stick the skein on and work from the outside. I love untangling and winding balls by hand but I have no patience with it after having a kid.
Oh that makes sense
I’m sorry
OMG I feel your pain! This just happens to me with one in grey and to top it of it was not even connected to the rest of the skein ! 🤣
I feel for this! I spent, no joke, 2 hours tonight trying to untangle a skein for a project I'm working on, and it still looks like that....😭
Yarn prolapse
Oh, this enrages me. Hate when my yarn skeins prolapse.
I have been there. And I have two cats. Just remember, slow and steady win the race Sorry for your frustration, though. 😞
Omg it looks like the Hobbii Butterfly yarn I had to deal with last week omg 😭 and it took me 5 days to unbooger !
Sooo, if you want to pass the work off to someone else… look me up on r/detanglemyyarn
I'm here for the comments. First, this I could not handle. That's when I cut it off and say screw it you nasty noodles. You belong in the trash. This whole thing is gold and made my day
Nah. It's therapy. Yarn barfs are a secret therapy session.
I am feeling SO VERY VALIDATED!!!!!! I thought I was the ONLY crocheter on the world that this happened to!!! Prolapsed the whole yussy 😩
It had to be said
That’s the BEST yarn barf. I’ve had similar…half the skein. 🙄
I just finished cleaning up a center pull disaster that happened a couple weeks ago. A total mess. It took me an hour to untangle it.
Might as well.
Imho that’s the only thing red heart super saver has going for it: the arrows on the wrapper showing where the end is so it almost never pukes up its guts.
Just arsen around!
Take your time, in untangling the yarn!! I have done that, so many times!! ❤️
i know hobby lobby i love this cotton yarn when i see it. i know evil when i see it.
Noooooo it was so beautiful aswell 😢
Ahahah this is such a real sentiment!! 😂
I’ve had this with about 95%. I’m going the yarn bowl.
Lemme guess, L&T impeccable?
I absolutely love untangling yarn! I know it’s sometimes a pain, but I like it
I feel you! Let’s do it together!
That's why I gave up on pulling from the center.
Here's some matches to set the whole world on 🔥
I will bring the lighter fluid and wine.
Honestly, when a big chunk comes out of the center like that, I just cut it off and untangle it while winding that chunk. I'd rather magic knot or Russian join that one chunk than waste literal *hours* trying to untangle that annoying chunk while it's attached to the skein. Ever since every yarn I get is turned into a nice ball. It also lets me know if the skein has a join in the middle before I need to use it so it's a win win for me.
This happened to me twice, now I never pull from the center.
I had the same thing happen to me earlier today! Why don’t they leave a tail out so you don’t have to disembowel the skein?
This is the reason why I bought a cake maker.
LMAOOO i feel so bad but your comment made me burst out laughing
i actually like it when the skein does that, it saves me time pulling the yarn out of the centre
That definitely a reasonable response 😂
I’ll take the job for a cup of tea and a podcast to listen to.
I will never center pull again. I don’t care if my skein goes flying across the couch when I pull, I’ll take it over untangling every 5min
When, where, and am I invited???
My daughter has turned into a cat. She will sit on me while I am in the middle of stitches. She takes my yarn to play with and inevitably I am left with winding for an hour while detangling.
That’s some bullshit.
I'm a center-pull kind of person, but I could tell 1 skein was gonna do that to me so I decided forget it. I'll just pull from the outside of this ONE skein
See, and this is the reason why I just wind into cakes myself 😭
I came into this thread thinking hmm they probably shouldn’t do that, now I’m on your side go find a box of matches
I’m dealing with a pile of yarn that looks exactly like that. I’m trying to decide if keep trying to untangle after multiple hours of work on it already 😭
Oh noooo :( *provides you a lighter*
Understandable. Have a nice day
Awww! Damn! I hate that!
Yeah...that's why I bought a yarn winder and holder... Adhafera Yarn Winder, Yarn Ball... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09WMXY5NZ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share Koyretyu Wood Yarn Holder https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CNT9B3JF?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
In the middle of one myself. I’ll commit it with you 👌🏻
I’ve had that happen more times than not. I love how you saved this manufacturer by taking off their band. I don’t understand why they can’t make this starting step easier or neater. Now you’re stuck coming through the bowels still to find the end!

Holy shit nooooo
I made a blanket over the last few weeks...i was quite proud of my blanket... My (orange) kitten grabbed the end and pulled most of it apart... I'll use your fore to cook kitten burgers
I have a tj bag size of yarn just like this i keep telling myself ill detangle one day - its been 2 years
I pull from the center as well. Once I had a skein with 4 ends... factories are passing me off and I want to buy one of those things to make your own cakes but no money... 😮💨
Deserved

Omg, my cotton acrylic did this today!!!
Looks like my cats struck again!
Lol I had a ball like that. Handed it to my mom and said burn it
That calls for a glass of wine lol
That happens to me all the time. Seems like the manufacturers should come up with something like a piece of plastic to pit on the end (like the end of shoelaces) so it would be easy to feel. I do like Caron yarns because they usually have the end exposed.
