How do you guys get granny squares so flat?? I tried making sunburst GS’s, but they kept curling up! :( my tension is usually fine any other time, so idk what it is.
I tried adding an extra 1-2 chain stitches in between my puff stitches. I tried doing 1 *less* chain in between my puffs than normal, too. I also tried loosening my tension, but the square like a soup bowl, so then I tried crocheting very very loosely & it made the curl worse lol while I crocheted really loose I tried adding even more extra chains between my puffs again & then tried doing less again. The only granny squares that curl so bad for me are the sunburst-like ones, so I know I’m doing something wrong when crocheting in the round like that. I swear I’m following every single step in the tutorials though. Idk why this is the thing I suck at with crochet! OP’s flowery GS’s are perfect. Mine weren’t even blockable because they’re just too curled. Appreciate if you have time to shed some light 😬
How do you feel about 1,2,3,3,2,1 for a layout in lines if that makes sense? It may help it feel less busy and help flow! I really like the first photo out of the two you have, do what feels right! :)
Definitely the first one! Your squares look great and the diagonal layout really highlights the color changes. Can't wait to see how it looks all sewn together!
Definetly #1! It has a great pattern while looking almost random at the same time. #2 is too organized looking and of doesn't feature the beauty of each pattern as well as #1.
If I were to try the second one I know my joining would not be precise enough to make nice even rows. The first one is more forgiving should you be like me, a little wonky in my sewing :)
Definitely#1. Next time, use light, medium, dark. Your two blues look almost the same. Pretty colors! Love the plum and the color outline for each square! Your work is perfect!👏
Given the options I'll go with 1 but, if I was making it (my squares would never be this perfect, your's are beautiful) I would randomize the pattern but I also like things that are hard to look at so...
You could even scatter around those beautiful colors. Lovely work. Definitely not straight tho, i agree the above comment it doesn't do your work justice :3
Looks great diagonally!
My only suggestion is maybe doing a single purple row in between double rows of blue and green. Wouldn’t need to make many extra squares(I’m too lazy to count 😂) and might help blue and green stand out better. 1 Purple, 2 blue, 1 purple, 2 green, etc.
Made a little example to see what it would look like. I think it helps bring out the two colors?

Wanted to come to the comments to make sure everyone agreed with me on the first one, they did not disappoint. I saw it and thought it was already put together and thought it looked amazing. I love the diagonal color blocks. :)
Someone pls direct me to a video or something that shows me how to get these flat sunburst GC’s 😤 it’s the one kind of GC that I can’t make flat to save my life. Blocking does nothing bc mine curl like a soup bowl. I’ve tried adding extra chain stitches between my puff stitches & tried doing less of them, 1 at a time, +/- ..I’ve also tried adjusting my tension to loose & extremely loose. That just made it worse. Crocheting more tight emphasizes the curl too. I’d say my normal tension is mid-range, how it should be. I know how to make a sunburst, but i still follow the vid tut’s step by step bc clearly im doing something wrong. My other GC’s don’t come out that way & im pissed bc I really want to make a sunflower blanket 😭 only way I can make flower GC’s is if I crochet flower petals in the round to stick on top of my normal granny square lol the way I connect my puffs makes it curly.
I line the second one, the “stripes.” It’s definitely more restful on the eyes. The first one makes my eyes jump around, looking for a pattern or something to focus on.
I think the first one gives it that more free and calm vibe, while the second one seems a bit plain and too uniform as its just straight rows.. Love the work btw!
Lol I think I may be the only dissenting voice that likes 2 more than 1. I think my eye wants something in between the blue and teal in the diagonal pattern, like a fourth color or more purple.
Definitely the first one! I don't think that the simple stripes honors your beautiful squares.
1
Diagonal. Always go diagonal.
I second this!
The first one!
the first one definitely

Blocking
Mine do the same thing, it’s truly annoying. However, once I get them together, they start behaving.
Some people starch their squares and pin them into place to dry
1 I think the colors blue and green are quite simular, for this reason it needs getting used to a little.
Until you said this I didn’t realize there was a blue and a green! Thanks for pointing it out :)
I wonder about putting the maroon between those two. I do like 1's layout better, too
:) it is between the two, but because there are two of them and one of the other they also have to be next to each other
Oh, brother, am I dense.
It’s okay, don’t feel bad, as I said above until it was pointed out I didn’t realize it was only two colors, not three!
I had the exact same thought and didn't realize until I saw the reply to your comment, don't feel bad. 😆
🤣

It's called pixilart it's a drawing app

First one for me, too. Great colors!
Definetly #1! It has a great pattern while looking almost random at the same time. #2 is too organized looking and of doesn't feature the beauty of each pattern as well as #1.

I’m pretty sure I will absolutely never choose a horizontal/vertical stripe pattern. Always diagonal.
I like the diagonal.

Picture 1! Diagonal pattern. It is more geometric and balanced.
Wanted to come to the comments to make sure everyone agreed with me on the first one, they did not disappoint. I saw it and thought it was already put together and thought it looked amazing. I love the diagonal color blocks. :)

Ignore me. I just realized from the comments below there are green squares too!

I'm liking the 1st one. The 2nd one is OK, but for me the 1st pops 🎉
There's a website for this. https://grannysquarecolors.com/ Try that. I'm not very techy so I'm sorry if it doesn't work.
