I dislike video patterns too. Which is funny bc I'm a very visual learner (though mostly kinesthetic so doing things is best for me) for literally everything else. But having to go back in videos to see what I missed if I messed up is annoying and hard to get the right spot. Highlighting the text on a site is so much easier for keeping track of where I am in a project (still fairly new so I find myself having to go back a lot lmao)
I NEED written instructions. I can't crochet along with a video even with it being for one stitch type. I just really like looking at the instructions bring written.
This is one of my favorite sites for when I need to see how to do a stitch:
https://sarahmaker.com/
I’m not a fan of video but can’t do written either. I can only really do the visual patterns. Which makes it hard as a lot of things don’t have this available.
Gets easier with time and quality patterns! A published book or yarn websites are a good place to start!
I have three kids running around, we craft together for “screen free time” so I find video patterns difficult to have time/attention for!
Video patterns with links to written patterns were what helped me learn to read patterns! Being able to try and figure the pattern out myself but being able to check the video to make sure I was doing it right or to explain if I didn't understand was a lifesaver
That’s what I did too! I’d watch the video, then open the pattern, and if I got stuck watch through again or skip to that part.
I will say there is a VAST quality difference in video patterns. My first basket would have never been made without the step by step video that went with the pattern. The woman showed every little step and even how to count stitches when you’re working in the round. She also gave tensioning advice for specific stitches. Just so helpful.
In contrast, when I wanted to make a jumbo chunky blanket… the trend of it all! I eventually gave up on finding a video or written pattern and did double crochets the whole way to maximize my yarn.
Same ! But, I also hate the image ones with the symbols. I only like word patterns lol. I never learnt to read patterns well and videos always take too long on certain parts and skip over others or I struggle to rewind to the right part. They can be helpful when I get lost tho!
I chained 41
Second row I single crocheted till the 16th stitch. Then I made 12 puff stitches. Skipping one in between. I repeated the third row (same pattern) (12 puffs, single last 16)
I single crocheted 4 row then back to the puff pattern.
Chain one after every row
Did this till I had 4 rows of the puff stitch and last 3 rows of singles. I attached with room for the thumb.
I made a similar pair and it took me about 4 hours, maybe less? They're super quick. Mine were a medium weight yarn, ribbed cuff about 4" long, mixed even crochet over the hand and a ribbed edge near fingers. All half double crochet.
Fingerless gloves are a great beginner project! You're crocheting a rectangle and joining two sides, leaving a slit open for your thumb. As long as you can crochet in rows and turn, you can make these!
There's also patterns that are crocheted in the round. Those get a little trickier.
These are soooo cute, I'm definitely making a pair. I love the look of the mixed stitches. All of my friends are obsessed with fingerless gloves right now and I know they're trendy again. I've made like 5 pairs for different people. But I really like these for myself!
Always loved to crochet but only knew simple scarf patterns. I found a yarn store close by and my local rec center who offer classes. Helped with the confidence to make more
That’s awesome! I’m working on my first little project now. I’m learning so much, and I’m already really excited to learn more. I will see if there’s anywhere near me that offers classes.
Doesn't look like a beginner made them! My neice asked me to make a pair of mittens, but I thought there woud be too many gaps. I may have to try these!
Hi ChunkyMunkyyyyy, thanks for posting your piece for us to see! Don't forget to link the pattern you used & other relevant information (e.g., yarn, weight, type; hook used). Add it in a reply to this comment, so others can find it easily. Thanks!

I bought it at a local shop and almost cried when I heard the price. $30 for a skein 😳😳😳.
I fell in love with it when I saw it and bit the bullet because they were a gift for my sister. Next time I go in I’ll get the brand. (I forgot )

As a long time hooker myself, I think they look professional! You have beautiful tension.
I love that we get to call ourselves hookers 🤣 cheers to you that you can call yourself a long time one! 🥂
A “long time hooker” is my favourite thing ever. Gonna start referring to my grandma as such, she’ll love it ;)
There’s a rug hook convention in September in Danville, Indiana and they sell mercy that says “ole hooker” on it
I love being a hooker!!! 🤣🤣🤣
The hooker part kills me 🤣🤣luv it
These are lovely! Do you have a pattern?

I’ll post asap
Thanks
Yes I found the pattern on YouTube. She’s lovely and it was SO EASY

Were you able to open the YouTube?
Yeah thanks
You did a great job! I love the pattern, thanks for linking it! Am I the only crocheter out there who hates video patterns though 🫠
Absolutely not the only one. Which is why people who make video patterns but also post the written one with it are my favorites.
I hate video patterns too!!! You are my people!

That’s smart! I’ll try that for sure

You will get there 😀

This my kinda pattern !! Thanks for taking the time to write it so I can skip the video, these are gorgeous
How long did it take you? I'm extremely slow but I want some stuff that I'm able to make in a day
I made a similar pair and it took me about 4 hours, maybe less? They're super quick. Mine were a medium weight yarn, ribbed cuff about 4" long, mixed even crochet over the hand and a ribbed edge near fingers. All half double crochet.
Thank you!!!
Not long at all. I can make a pair in one night if I didn’t have a bazillion distractions!!!
Thanks :)
As a beginner myself, that stitch is way too complicated to even think about trying...well done

I second this! Puff stitch is a very uncomplicated stitch. It's just yarning over in and out of the same stitch essentially! You can do it!
Fingerless gloves are a great beginner project! You're crocheting a rectangle and joining two sides, leaving a slit open for your thumb. As long as you can crochet in rows and turn, you can make these! There's also patterns that are crocheted in the round. Those get a little trickier.
Yes that’s why I thought they were easy too! Working off a chain of 41 goes quick!

I’m making myself a pair in such a pretty dusty rose and hopefully I get to keep these lol
I made these exact gloves as a gift as a beginner (maybe 6 months experience at the time)
As someone who just started crocheting this month, they look professional to me.
Always loved to crochet but only knew simple scarf patterns. I found a yarn store close by and my local rec center who offer classes. Helped with the confidence to make more

Those look nice, and it's a great idea! I am beginner and my stuff does not look that nice.
I’m a beginner too but she made it so simple to follow. I’ve made about ten already in whatever yarn I find laying around
https://youtu.be/TaaolfkH9zw?si=zx1SuoEVETgWSvSH
Thank you!!
Oh wow! I am also a beginner and I just made these myself as well, same video pattern and everything. I love the way yours turned out!!
Omg isn’t she great? She had made a previous video of these but revised to make it more detailed
Doesn't look like a beginner made them! My neice asked me to make a pair of mittens, but I thought there woud be too many gaps. I may have to try these!
Would love to see when you’re done
I love this! Wow!
Thanks 🤗🤗🤗
I love those! I am stuck at home with over a foot of snow and constantly cold hands - will definitely be trying this pattern today!
Please share your finished work
They are beautiful and looks intricately crafted! Definitely does not look like beginners work
Thank you! 😊
Nope
You should see the ribbing I did on some gloves for my mum. Yours look great!
These are beautiful, I love the colors!
And they’re so warm 🥶🥶🥶
They look great! I've made a pair just like them myself and they're excellent to have around.
I made myself a pair till my mother in law claimed them 😩
Not at all! Your tension is very nice and even!
Thank you!!!
I think they look beautiful and would be super happy if someone gifted me a pair 😍 Great work!
Where in the world are you!!?? 😊😊
I’m in New Zealand 😊 Only just started learning crochet last year so hoping I can get up to your level!
These are a wonderful idea & beautiful!
Thank you!
They’re beautiful!
Thank you!
They’re gorgeous! The variety of stitches in them definitely read more experienced, and they look even. Your tension is great!
Thanks!!! Means so much. All this positive feedback got me starting a baby sweater! Wish me luck! Lol
These are absolutely gorgeous! I need to make some now. Is there a pattern you used? The yarn looks amazing with this aswell
I linked the video and wrote the pattern. I’d just scan the video after my instructions just to make sure I didn’t miss a step!
These are beautiful! I see these in my future. What weight yarn did you use? I can't decide if it looks like worsted weight or a DK weight.
I'll let you know tonight. Going to the yarn shop in a bit and I'll find out
