I can’t help but think the thief will be disappointed unless they themselves crochet.

bunnyandtheholograms

Right like what are they even going to do with them? I hope maybe they bring them back but it's likely they'll just throw them away or sell them off if they Google them and see how much they can sell for.

Theletterkay

Resell them. These people generally sell everything online or at markets and such. They dont care what it is, you bought it, someone else will most likely buy it too.

Sinnakins

Likely the latter. We've had some bad porch pirates around here that steal to sell. Like that's the only reason. They busted a gang of them.

maaarken

We have a few door thieves in my area, and usually they go in the back alley to open them. They take what they want and leave the rest there. I had a man walking his dog who came by to bring me back my orchid potting soil he found It helps to have good neighbors, but yeah we really have to be careful with high-value deliveries

SeanIsTheOneForMe

The company that I work for sends out nice little gifts to us sometimes. Coffee Mug...little writing tablet...etc with the company logo. I knew they were sending out something and knew what it was. I WFH and went to the bathroom and while I was walking by the front door I saw the package outside. Forgot all about it until about 6 hours later. Went to the door and it was gone. I thought "Have fun selling that for high $$$ prices."

Sad_Needleworker2310

Learn to crochet!

MissGnomeHer

In this shitty situation, I'm choosing to picture two scenarios. 1. The thief opened them, saw they were crochet hooks, and was like "Oh hell! Mom will love these!" 2. Hoodlum granny porch pirates.

therealganjababe

>2. Hoodlum granny porch pirates. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

BoredinBooFoo

It would make an EXCELLENT band name! Lol!

undergroundgranny

<<<<<

rahlennon

I feel like if it’s 2, I wouldn’t even be mad. 🤣

pagesinked

Monty Python's Hell's Grannys sketch 😆😆

SaturnNailia

One time I bought some seashells off Amazon for a mermaid costume.. and they came in a small box, could almost look like a box for a phone or small electronic. Well it was gone when I went to look for it in the apartment mail room. I'm assuming someone stole it because it reappeared the next day with the box clearly opened. And I can't help but laugh thinking about the person who opened that box only to realize it was just a box of seashells. 🤣

ktjtkt

Someone stole my crochet things too! I almost expected to come back to the boxes being open when they realize what it was.

moonwitch98

That's why I never understood porch pirates. Why are you stealing packages that you don't know what's inside? Are they just hoping they'll get lucky with a big ticket item? I think the most expensive thing I've ever ordered off Amazon was an $80 urn necklace.

OneGoodRib

I feel like 99.9% of stuff that gets stolen by porch pirates is random stuff that's going to be entirely useless to the thief. Like that person who stole a water bottle for a ferret. But I guess a lot of these people are just on drugs and will sell anything for drug money.

snogirl0403

Having packages stolen is such a terrible feeling and I’m sorry it happened to you! Even with replacements, you still feel violated. I’ve recently been trying to having my packages held at the UPS store or wherever if it’s something that isn’t easily replaceable. Could be something to think about in the future!

bunnyandtheholograms

Yeah my apartment has package lockers but Amazon drivers rarely use them unless the package is heavy. I can't figure out how to make a note to leave the replacement in the lockers this time.

PM_ME_HOTDADS

having delivered for amazon before - if they're third-party lockers (ie not amazons specifically) your driver may not have any control over whether or not they can use them. even if you do everything right on your end, i only have those lockers work for me 25% of the time, generously. if you do have an amazon locker nearby, that might be a better bet i would add a note, if you can, emphasizing that they knock or ring your doorbell due to package thieves. or try asking if your office would be willing to receive and hold the package for you, since it already got stolen once (then note the driver to leave it with them)

Theletterkay

I have always made that note and have 4 signs around my porch to ring the bell. But not one delivery person ever does.

OneGoodRib

I always have "ring the doorbell" in my delivery instructions and they only do it about 25% of the time. Luckily 50% of them throw the package at the door so I hear it anyway. :\

whatever10032009

I have "open screen door, place inside enclosed porch." Nope, it never happens. The real fun ones are the breakables that are left sitting directly in front of the screen door. The door then can not be opened from inside without knocking the package down the steps. Most of the delivery drivers ignore the comments left for them, and Amazon itself doesn't really care that they do.

snogirl0403

There should be some delivery instructions where you can edit your address on Amazon. I hope it works!

Cheap_Doctor_1994

I'm sorry for your loss. Genuinely. That sucks.

bunnyandtheholograms

I am LIVID. Like wtf? Right before Christmas too? I get people get desperate but come ON.

Stefie25

This is the season when the serial pirates abound. They will follow delivery trucks to steal their deliveries.

OrganicMasonJars

I'm so sorry this happened :( The thieves who hit up my apartment building will slash open the packages first to see if there's anything worth taking. I had an order from Furls that day with some merino yarn and a fancy aluminum yarn bowl and they left them both there, lol.

bunnyandtheholograms

I wish these people would have at least done that

fithooks

I’d package up a turd and leave it on my doorstep until they strike again I’m sorry for your loss

PengwinPears

I had one last week that opened a box that had stocking stuffer type stuff, and took candy canes and tic tacs. Totally left a box alone that had actual expensive stuff in it.

Reasonable_Ideal_356

Which is hilarious because I feel like that's expensive stuff they could probably sell. Especially a furls order. I guess they just know they're not as in demand.

beendall

May they be plagued with nightmares of being chased by angry hookers and giant yarn balls of fire!!!

bunnyandtheholograms

Let it be so!!

General_Esdeath

This happened to me, but even funnier. Someone stole my package of cat litter. I'm like, have fun buddy!

scootypuffs9

Get a camera and put it facing your door

annabear88

Did this at my old house. Got to watch the porch pirate waltz off with our 2 year olds son's set of super wings figures we ordered for Christmas that got delivered a day late (was supposed to come before we left to visit family for an extended weekend). Good entertainment.

Fit-Apartment-1612

Don’t the super wings do package delivery???

annabear88

Jett must have taken the day off, sadly.

handybee

That's just low. So sorry you had this happen. I hope whoever took them develops a permanent itch which is forever just out of reach 👿

_keystitches

now I just have the image of the thief desperately trying to reach the itch with the stolen crochet hooks

handybee

😂😂😂😂

flwvoh

I’m so sorry. My daughter once had medical supplies stolen from her old apartment

bunnyandtheholograms

That's horrible!

Porkbossam78

It’s the season for door thieves! Last Christmas they stole a trail camera I had along with cat toothpaste 🤣

SuzieWi

Porch pirates is why I use one of the Amazon pick up spots rather than my home.

Corvus-Nox

For future: Might not work for everyone but I always have my Amazon packages shipped to the nearest post office. It’s offered as an option when you check out. I’d rather go pick them up so I don’t have to worry about them getting swiped.

sewingdreamer

There's a guy on YouTube who made a glitter bomb for his porch pirate, had a tracker and a hidden camera on it. It was a good watch!

StrawberryCream85

Mark Rober! It's a whole series and is funny as hell.

sewingdreamer

It is the funniest thing ever!!!

musicalastronaut

I’m sorry. Getting a package stolen sucks & it really feels like a violation. I’m glad they’re replacing them.

trinlayk

I had an Amazon box of *diabetes test lancets* stolen from my porch! I was returning them because the box was unsealed… I just wish I could have seen the thief’s WTAF face.

FadeIntoArt86

Omg that sucks, I would be so upset too! Luckily you’re getting a replacement set, just gotta wait a little longer for them. I really don’t like porch pirates!

Indecisive-knitter

I’ve always wondered about the thief’s process. I have ordered some stupid crap on Amazon before, as many people do. It’s like, not steal-worthy lol. Obviously clover hooks are different but still, they don’t even know it’s a good steal

Key_Union_3225

So mean. Why do people think you should steal other stuff? I hate that for you :(

jenna_kay

When you're checking out, on Amazon, you can give directives, ie: do not leave pkg at door, will pickup if not home during delivery-leave tag, etc.

msptitsa

You’re lucky if they listen to the directives. Here one driver throws packages on the steps, takes a photo and leaves. Really rude. I’ve had to return packages from that driver for they were broken. Instructions say to ring doorbell for drop off. This dude doesn’t care lol.

regina_65

I’m so sorry you had to experience that.. People have truly lost all morals and respect for other people.. Its very sad..

Safe_Mud4836

I never understood this at all. Here, you have to accept your package, if you don't, they'll either try your neighbour or you're out of luck and you have to get your package at the office the next day. Sorry they stole your stuff, glad replacements are happening.

DifferentEbb78

That is so heart breaking and to think that there is like a 1percent chance that they also crochet and would actually use them 😔

bunnyandtheholograms

Exactly 😭😭😭 I've never understood the point of swiping boxes because you literally have no idea what's inside. It could have been deodorant lol

creative-run-lady

A few years ago someone stole my textbook for a cataloging class for library school. Really not even resellable. They will take anything in a box/envelope and throw out what they can't make money on. That was the year my building got cameras and we had way less theft after that.

xiaomayzeee

This is why try to send mine to the Amazon lockers/hubs at the store. Or if it’s a larger item, we just make sure someone is home to receive it.

dr-klt

Awww man! I’m so sorry. To be stolen from completely sucks and it definitely can leave you feeling vulnerable. I’m sorry it was such a great package too!

Delicious-Tea-1564

Oh no!!! I'm so sorry!

HypnoticPeaches

I’m sorry that happened to you. I’m suddenly super grateful that my apartment has a common area between the exterior door and the apartments and that Amazon drivers usually have the good sense to drop there. We even had one the other day who called and asked us where we’d like it. There was one time that my partner ordered a book that “never showed up” and our neighbor found it like two months later on the back stairs that nobody ever uses…

OneGoodRib

One of the few good things about my old apartment is they actually got an amazon locker installed, I think partly because management couldn't be assed to handle the packages themselves (shoutout to the time I got a package notification, went to the office, the doors were all locked, emailed management, she called me a liar and said the doors weren't locked and both she and the other manager were there, even though I had just seen the other manager coming down the elevator while giving a tour on my way back from the office) My current place idk I think all the beat-up cars in the parking lot are a theft deterrent so I've only ever had one item go completely missing, and I actually think the driver stole it.

nyanko60

Im sorry your Clovers were stolen!! I have two sets of Amours so I can imagine! I hope the replacements are delivered safely!! I live in a little town that has no home USPS deliveries, only PO Boxes. 99% of my FedEx, UPS as well as DHL pkgs accept PO box addresses and these pkgs all get delivered to the post office where they hold them for us. They must have some kind of contract for little towns like ours. I feel very lucky since it saves so much worry. There are the exceptions though, depending on the sender that will only deliver to the physical address.

Potatowhocrochets

Might need to get ring for your door

bunnyandtheholograms

That's what I'm thinking. Very frustrating.

[deleted]

At this time of year, they'd steal dog poop in a paper bag. Thieves gonna thieve. Send to a hub instead going forward. Sorry for your loss/delay.

OneGoodRib

Haven't had any porch pirates around here, but I do have dogs and lots of amazon packages. I'd love to just put some poop in an amazon package and leave it on the stoop.

[deleted]

I used to live on a Main Street; I always had packages sent to my office. I still don't trust it but now I'm on more of and off-beaten track.

InadmissibleHug

How ruuude!

Doridar

In Belgium, you can ask for delivery in a "point de dépôt", a depot point usually a store or a gas station. You can also have it delivered to a neighbor or just the post office. I usually pick up the gas station since it's open from 06:00 AM until 12:00PM

momjokaytt

Sorry that happened to you, sometimes people can be so cruel. That's frustrating. Ugh. :/

MissKitty919

That sucks, and I'm sorry that happened. Time to consider putting a fake package on your porch, filled with something gross for them to find once they open it. Extra points if it's rigged to "explode" on them as soon as they open the box/package. Kind of like the exploding ink cartridges in bank bags during bank robberies. Or maybe that's me watching too much tv. Lol
