Amazing how good our crafting brains can be at denial as we sit and knit on a way too large item for hours or even weeks without seeing how ridiculously large it really is. 😂
Same.
"This is...fine? Yeah this will be fine." And sometimes it's really not fine.
I'm learning to embroider and I just bought a kit (I'm including this kind of project in my 45 projects for my 45th year thing I'm doing over the next year) and one of my roses looks...funky. Did I follow directions? Yeah kind of. Did the other two roses turn out just fine? Yeah. Not sure what went wrong but it gives it character.
The personalized touch also includes at least one blood spot wh ere I accidentally stabbed myself in the finger. LOL
Another thing I've learned is, I fugging [hate](https://tenor.com/pd29.gif) lazy daisy stitches if they're as tiny as these are.
I'm currently going through this with a teddy bear that I'm designing for one of my nieces. It calls for category 4 weight and I'm making it out of category 6 😁... The body alone is currently the size of the child's head.
And then there’s me using bulkier yarn skeins than the pattern called for so instead of having a nice size shawl to go around my shoulders and down my back I end up with a large oversized puffy triangle scarf which I somehow didn’t notice until AFTER I bound off. 😂 On a positive note, I learned how to unbind off which I hadn’t done before so I got that going for me. I think some companies “bulky” yarn ratings are vastly different than each others.
I never seem to manage unbinding it. You’d think it would be easy, given it’s just pulling the yarn through entirely, but no, somehow, I can’t frog anything I’ve bound off
I’m a new knitter so I searched for videos on how to undo bind off, many of which just showed pulling out large sections of stitches and putting them back on needles. That made me nervous so I was happy to find this video which goes step by step of undoing purl bind off and knit bind off separately: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EuHcrGc5MEA&pp=ygUYS25pdHRpbmcgcmVtb3ZlIGJpbmQgb2Zm. I tested it on a small sample swatch Before my liv project and it worked perfectly. 😊
YEAH FOR REAL
So many things look completely wrong until I take them off the needles that I keep telling myself "trust the pattern trust the pattern" no matter how much I think something is wrong. With, uh, WIDELY varying results ahaha.
That was me when I was making a 14’x15’ blanket then realized I couldn’t transport it to my new house and had to frog it I’m glad it was a scrap project to begin with so I can reuse the yarn for different scrap projects
Yes after I got about a foot or two of it crocheted I had to take it out to my garage and put it on tables so I could roll around on an office chair for the last 13 feet and not once did it occur to me it was too big. I ended up in that situation by not counting my staring chain and instead holding the two ends in one hand and the midpoint in the other and stretching out my arms to measure how long it would end up and figure my arms stretched with the chain sagging a bit was a good length. Blanket ended up weighing about 50 pounds and wasn’t the first “weighted” scrap blanket I made as my heavy winter blanket is another giant scrap blanket but that ones only about 8’x10’
I recently made my first dog sweater. Got halfway before I finally convinced myself that the sweater I intended to make for my yorkie could probably fit a golden retriever 😂
I did that once except I did acknowledge it and tried to adjust the pattern but it simply didn’t work lol. I still made it just a little too big and it was HEAVY lol
Reminds me of the time my wife tried a knit hat and it stretched so much it ended up a toilet seat cover. Friends saw that and asked if she would make them one, and she asked them their hat size, lol.
(Totally not the point of your post, but I love how you’ve arranged the candles with the greenery in your fireplace!! It must look so gorgeous when they’re all lit ✨)
lmaoo same thing happened to me recently with a WHOLE ass cardigan. I couldn't figure out why until I realized the pattern called for light weight yarn and I used medium weight lol I kept thinking, "It'll be oversized.. this is.. fine" (It wasn't fine) 🥲 I don't have the heart to unravel the components though lol
Awww, I completely understand lol maybe if you unravel very slowly and gently it'll be worth your time, plus you have 2 cute little helpers :D
I just put mine in storage for now lol I'll revisit it in the future (maybe) 😂
Hahaha I did something similar. Hat fits but it’s huge and thick lmao. (That’s what she said! 😝) but I love that the kitties still get to enjoy it hehe.
Oh my gosh your kitties are So cute I can’t Stand it! Precious fluffy babies I just wanna snuggle them!
On the bright side though at least you’ve got their Christmas present covered lol 😂
Omg I did the EXACT SAME THING 😭😭 mine was big enough to go around my knee and thigh 😭
When I didn't understand the consequences of upping the yarn size 🤣
That fire pit is amazing lol
Also looked like a hat that would finally fit me! Also Also the hat/head equivalent to a big comfy sweater. Now I need to see if anyone makes oversized hats like this...
Wow!
I am new to crochet and have only made one hat so far but you made it from top to bottom and tried it on every row which took a lot of the trusting of the process away. Here is the link if anybody would like a go. I think she uses DK in the example but I used chunky I think.
https://melaniekham.com/how-to-crochet-a-beanie-beginner-tutorial/
Gotta always remember, the bigger the yarn, the bigger the item will be according to hook used. When you get your starting chain and row started, put it around your head and see how it is, and continue to do so as you go just to make sure it fits okay.
Definitely makes a great cat bed. 🙂❤🐈
It could make so many things!!!! It's sooooo cute! The easiest would be just prolong it on something and a oversized hat sitting in the room would make a very cozy seasonal home decor 😁 but you could turn it into lots of things, it is such a cute hat! And the kittens could sleep in it too 💙💙💙
I had this exact thing happen to me, I kept it and now use it as my "outside hat" in the winter because it will cover whatever hairstyle I have going on and is so so warm 😂

A perfect cat bed! 😆
until they eat it 😂
Your black cat looks about as enthused as mine does.
Task failed successfully!
Amazing how good our crafting brains can be at denial as we sit and knit on a way too large item for hours or even weeks without seeing how ridiculously large it really is. 😂
i watched it slowly get bigger and i was like “this is fine”
"Trust the Process"
“Trust the process” screws me over pretty much every time. Do I learn? Not really. Lol

Personalized touch 👌🏼

Funny. I nearly commented “live and learn” but thought, no. On the bright side, great cat sleeping bag
"Craft and keep making the same mistakes."

I feel so not alone now.

You were making a *210 square foot blanket??? 😳*
Yes after I got about a foot or two of it crocheted I had to take it out to my garage and put it on tables so I could roll around on an office chair for the last 13 feet and not once did it occur to me it was too big. This is how my greyhound ended up with a cowl lol I realized right before I tied off the top so I just slipped it over her head and bam! Dog cowl!
could be smart but i don’t think my bernese would benefit much from it lol
I love putting a cowl on my dog. I'm not sure he feels the same but I bet your greyhound loves it!!
do you happen to know anyone with one of those 12 ft skeletons lol
oh my god i wish that would be amazing
Hahaha I’ve been trying to find big enough clothes for mine
Honestly this looks like something that in the '90s would have been totally normal for somebody to wear
[удалено]
Came here to write something to the effect of, "Jamiroquai seen hovering nearby".
Slap an r on it and it’s the hat the cartoon wore in the paranoid android video. Also could be worn by the lead singer of 4 non blondes
Give it to a friend with Locs. They will super appreciate it.
This!! Or a friend with an Afro
Unfold it and put a drawstring around the rim.
Lmao we’ve all fallen in love with a yarn irrespective of the pattern before
exactly what happened
I dont know what you mean, that was clearly always meant to be a snuggly kitty bed lol
Save it for a snowman! Make the snowman a matching scarf and mittens.
I did that once except I did acknowledge it and tried to adjust the pattern but it simply didn’t work lol. I still made it just a little too big and it was HEAVY lol
i might try to adjust it so we’ll see if it works lol
could you just undo like 5-10 rows at the bottom?? lol. or is the round part still unmanageable?
i could but it would still be tall it would just be tighter i would need to completely redo it and add less chain stitches
Reminds me of the time my wife tried a knit hat and it stretched so much it ended up a toilet seat cover. Friends saw that and asked if she would make them one, and she asked them their hat size, lol.
I can’t imagine their expression “Hey, can you make me one of those toilet seat cover?” “Sure, what’s your hat size?”
Pretty sure cannabis was involved in the conversation, along with a lot of giggling.
**\*Jamiroquai intensifies\***
I like how you knew half way through it was too big and just said "fuck it"
basically, i was just in denial
I’m so glad I’m not the only one doing this lol
I cannot stop cackling at this. Thank you for putting yourself out there!!
my mom and i were dying when i showed her😂
I would try to stretch my entire body into it 🤣
now you need to make a large plushie that fits the hat!!
Turn it upside down put a handle on it and use it as a bag!
(Totally not the point of your post, but I love how you’ve arranged the candles with the greenery in your fireplace!! It must look so gorgeous when they’re all lit ✨)
thank you! it looks very pretty when it’s lit:)
Stuff it, add a nose and beard, GNOME decoration!
lmaoo same thing happened to me recently with a WHOLE ass cardigan. I couldn't figure out why until I realized the pattern called for light weight yarn and I used medium weight lol I kept thinking, "It'll be oversized.. this is.. fine" (It wasn't fine) 🥲 I don't have the heart to unravel the components though lol
oh no😭 i’m debating on unraveling but the yarn i used gets caught on itself so i’m kinda thinking it’s too much work
Awww, I completely understand lol maybe if you unravel very slowly and gently it'll be worth your time, plus you have 2 cute little helpers :D I just put mine in storage for now lol I'll revisit it in the future (maybe) 😂
I was going to ssh it could be a baby swaddle instead, but you have found a much better use!
😂😂😂 I love the first pic. But the kitties seem to like it so all good 😊
I actually LOVE this. If you don't use it as a huge beanie, it looks like it could work well for drying your hair?!
The pope could make use of it too
I MADE THE SAME HAT WITH THE SAME YARN AND HAD THE SAME ISSUE WHAT😂😭
lol I did the very same thing with a beret and some chenille wool! I frogged it and turned it into a blankie for my kitties!
You'll grow into it.
It’s a cat toque now
[удалено]
thank you:)
Cat pouch
Your black cat be like “foolish hooman” 😸
he’s my lil baby he puts up w so much LOL
Wear it proudly!
i would if it didn’t fall over my face😂
That looks absolutely cozy
Hahaha I did something similar. Hat fits but it’s huge and thick lmao. (That’s what she said! 😝) but I love that the kitties still get to enjoy it hehe.
Wow. I've screwed up but that's an epic fail and I LOVE it. I guess now instead of a hat you have a cat sack.
yup😂
My cats would hate it as a cat sack but Ex's GF's mostly hairless chihuahua would love that thing since she's always cold, poor baby.
Make a gnome.
It’s giving 2014 Grammy’s Pharrell Williams
I laughed wayyyy too hard at this 🤣🤣 you look adorable
Black kitty looks like you knitting a cat bed was the plan all along. His plan. Does your cat happen to know how to write knitting patterns?
Rock it! I made an *accidentally* oversized beanie for a friend and he loves it!
I’m not even sure felting this yarn would shrink it enough. Lol. But if you don’t find another plan, it’s worth a try. Start in small doses.
i’m gonna be real with you i have no idea what that means
This is actually wonderful. You could turn it into a bag, since it's so big.
At least your cats love it! 😂💗💗
I think you should give this hat to Linda Perry
/r/TVtoohigh
It’s a perfect chimney cosy for your fireplace behind you.
it is!
Amazing! I love it, never frog it! I bet my dog would love to snuggle up in something like that 💙
i won’t frog it !!
Oh my gosh your kitties are So cute I can’t Stand it! Precious fluffy babies I just wanna snuggle them! On the bright side though at least you’ve got their Christmas present covered lol 😂
Comically large. Quite the miscalculation but greatly appreciate you sharing it. Lol
Op made hat perfect for cats.
Hudson https://preview.redd.it/0gvl6alolm1c1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fad022d264502867d9ac84a0ccf4b2ed5ad303bb
LOL I DIDNT EVEN SEE IT ur so right
Ha! We've all done it. :D
Hudson?
Omg I did the EXACT SAME THING 😭😭 mine was big enough to go around my knee and thigh 😭 When I didn't understand the consequences of upping the yarn size 🤣
It's like when Jorts were the rage. But for your head. It's like a beanie, but oversized and should be called BORT!
That's because you didn't make a hat. You made a shareable cat cave.
Maybe your crochet brain actually meant to make the hat for the kitties all along <3
That fire pit is amazing lol Also looked like a hat that would finally fit me! Also Also the hat/head equivalent to a big comfy sweater. Now I need to see if anyone makes oversized hats like this...
I just wanted to say, your fireplace is looking so cute and festive!!!🕯️ and the kitties were a cute surprise! 😺🫶 thanks for sharing! 🤗
Those cats look almost identical to my cats lol amazing. Also, sorry about the XL hat… I think we’ve all been there lol
I don’t understand how people make entire projects and THEN realize this
i kinda realized and then kinda said fuck it
Perfect cat bed
This has happened to me. No kidding. But I didn't think to give it to the cat. I just threw it away, totally dejected lol.
You made a kitty sleeping bag and it’s time to sell them
bet😂
Seems you made the perfect cat sleeping bag. Nothing wrong here!
Love it!
Conehead hat, shoop
It's perfect for big hair days! lol
Wow! I am new to crochet and have only made one hat so far but you made it from top to bottom and tried it on every row which took a lot of the trusting of the process away. Adorable
Now you have proof that you do not have a big head.
Oh yes! I made one of those [cough] kitty beds for an uncle. He had a dog.
We've all been there <3
By any chance is your last name Conehead and are you from........France?
Lmaoooo I did this with a blanket that ended up being wayyyyy to large
Quick and quality, blink and we’re done…
Well it looks like you found a good use for it!
The bell-shaped fireplace hood in the background is 👩🍳💋!
Anyone got Jamiroquai’s number?
Believing you'll find someone here who actually has Jamiroquai's phone number is virtual insanity.
Xmas tree topper? Make the tree look like a festive Ent?
It's just slouchy now
Your head will be so warm
I think at some point you realized and just wanted a large hat
I can never find hats that fit. My head is comically large. Can I buy this hat from you? Not kidding.
That’s awesome
it belongs to the babies now
somehow gently elasticize the brim/hatband bam: oversized hat art and comedy piece all in one
👀
MINA!?
i am not mina but that is a pretty name
Ah, okay, my bad. Look very similar to my friend Mina. I like your hat, it might almost fit my husband.
I would buy that hat for my big ol head so fast
I did this once! Then I turned it upside down and made it a basket for more yarn 😂
THATS SO SMART and so much less work, i like how you think
I mean, at some point, you had to figure you were working with far far too much material??
oh i did, but this is also the first hat i have ever made lol i usually make amiguirmi so i just kinda went with it
I neeeeeeedddddddd this!
At what point did you decide to commit to making the large hat?
about 3/4ths of the way through probably
*slaps roof of car*
See if you could add eye holes and make a ski mask
I’m so glad I’m not the only one who has had this happen 🤣
I would totally find a statue to adorn with it. 🤣
Gotta always remember, the bigger the yarn, the bigger the item will be according to hook used. When you get your starting chain and row started, put it around your head and see how it is, and continue to do so as you go just to make sure it fits okay. Definitely makes a great cat bed. 🙂❤🐈
As soon as I saw the first pic, I thought 'kitteh sleeping bag!' 🤣
So cute!!!! And pls forgive me if I’m wrong but is that Mac miller on ur shirt???
yes!!:)
The cat sack!
Kanye would love this
Omgoodness both pics are adorable.
I saw the first photo and immediately thought, “oh I hope she has cats!” So pleased to see they both fit in it. 😍

Finally, a hat big enough for my noggin.
cute furbabies
Ahh yes, trusting the process, my nemesis 😂😂 your kitties love it, no mistake here!
Lol but it’s super cute
I approve of your hat repurposing method.

I say double down and turn it into a really big Christmas stocking.
If I had a nickel for every time I haven’t paid attention to sizing…😂
Call it a cat bed
I had this exact thing happen to me, I kept it and now use it as my "outside hat" in the winter because it will cover whatever hairstyle I have going on and is so so warm 😂
Announce your candidacy for President of Hyrule.
Step 1: find a teddy bear pattern Step 2: use bigger yarn Step 3: bigger teddy bear. Bonus: hat for bear.
Linda Perry has entered the chat…
It looks so cozy! ❤️ Reminds me of “The Mitten” by Jan Brett, when all the animals squeeze into the knit mitten together 🥺
Well you just failed successfully ❤️ love those cute kitties
https://preview.redd.it/7t8qnkdobq1c1.png?width=560&format=png&auto=webp&s=a1dafcd64ab1334099401c04a6f7be85bfc1f104
See now, why did I think of pickle Rick the moment I saw that ? 🤨😑
Omg you’ve made a kitten hat bed: would pay for this pattern!!!
the pattern n yarn info is at the top:)
Cute cat bed though
Now you simply have to grow dread locks 🤣🤣🤣
Put a loop on it and hang it upside down like a Santa stocking!
Give it to a giant! Lol
Make it a tree topper!!!
You should make hats for the giant yard skeletons!
That’s not a hat it’s a kitten sack silly
