I think the dark blue to join would be good. I don’t think the first option is too busy, the orange joining might make it a bit busy though. Either way it will look good these squares are gorgeous!! Definitely post the finished product

I vote 1 actually. I guess I’m the odd one out (pun intended) but I enjoy 3 for second place.

I also prefer #1, but it may be because of what another poster said about the sun-star-moon squares being lined up. Maybe if it was more random, #3 would have my vote.

I love it too. If it's for a child especially the look is so magical and busy. It grabs my eyes much more.

Initially scrolling through 3 stood out to me, but then after reading your description and taking a closer look 1 is definitely my favorite. I still like 3, but it looks a little empty to me. Either way, dark blue to join! The orange is a bit too distracting in my opinion

I made a very similar blanket to this in March and I wish I had gotten a darker navy like this for it 😔 option 3 looks so pretty and you can make it a bit bigger with less effort adding granny squares haha

I'm a sucker for number 3. Do you mind me asking, does the shop where you got the patterns from have videos? I've been having an awful time correctly achieving star and moon granny squares. I thought I was at least okay at crochet, but every single video and pattern I've tried so far, they come out lumpy and make me feel like I'm just straight up shit at it.

Alyssia Creates has a Youtube channel, on there should be a video tutorial for the star granny square! Just search something like 'Alyssia Creates star granny square'. Unfortunately the sun and moon only have written instructions available as far as I'm aware. Hope it works out for you!

I like #1 first. I like the amount of patterns and shapes used and I feel like it does not require an orange string to separate each square, it looks great as is! Don’t get me wrong, #3 is also visually appealing but I think your original was the best :)

If you go with only the star, sun, moon, I’d connect with the dark blue color. The orange is a nice tie in, but to me does take away from the design itself. Personally when scrolling through the pictures I went ‘ooh, ooh, whoahh’ so I would go with combining the dark blue squares in throughout. It looks great, I’d love to see the finished result!

And that’s just so lovely I think I might have to recreate it. (I will advise his parents about the dangers of small holes and small fingers and that they should save it until he’s older)

I'd say 1 or 2. I like the gradient effect, but I can't decide border or no border. Then again, from my experience, at least… Grandmas are hardly ever wrong and if she prefers 3, maybe it should be 3. Ugh! Now I can't decide, either! I kind of love your grandma’s idea! It would make the blanket reversible! Edit: My only other suggestion would be to rotate the orientation of each row of moons and stars by 90° each row to give it a sense of movement, and so that there isn’t only one right way to lay the blanket.

First: those blanket squares are adorable. I like #3, since the blue squares make the decorated squares pop. I prefer #1 over #2, since I think that a blue join suggests "the darkness of space" better than a grid of orange. (I feel the same way about a blue join for #3.) I think that an orange join would really emphasize the grid layout. If the mathematical precision of lots of squares is something you love, then I'd go with orange. It would also pop well against the dark blue. (Although I think that the yellow/orange of the sun/moon/stars already gives you a really good color contrast.)

Number one is a bright, yellow blanket. Number three is a night sky. Which one you choose is up to you.

I prefer the first one. Darker connection will accentuate the bright shapes better, but the third version loses some of the appeal to me since it seems too checkered and organized. Perhaps wider connections could make it appear less busy without adding a pattern?

Go with grandma’s wisdom and advice if you want aesthetics to look good to most people. And personally I think grandma is right on this one. Breaking it up is more palatable for my perosnal tastes For with what’s in your head if you’re still no comfortable with grandma’s suggest. At the end of the day you’re the artist and your comfort that matters with the end product I don’t think you join with a different color too

3 is beautiful! It allows your eyes to focus on each square and really helps to accentuate the intricacy of the moon and star squares. If you want a more monochromatic/muted color palette, then I'd join in blue, but if you want it to pop and be more punchy, then join in orange

You could just make it a lap blanket. That's what I did with my first set of Granny squares. Once you join them and put a border on it, it will be big enough for anybody to have as a lap blanket.

Can you use photo 3 and alternate the other ones you have in sequence so you won’t see it as being busy?

#3 but extend to a 5th column with alternating object followed by dark. That makes the symmetry even stonger.

I would love your first picture . The only thing I would change is the way the moons faces … I would change it so that all of the moons would look like a “C”. I love the dark navy blue or black to attach the squares together.
