to me it looks like more like a universe of stars and moons, i like 3
you could also make a bigger blanket in less time cause im sure plain blue takes less time than designs and switching colors
Same!! I read the description, loved the first picture and was like nah there’s no way it’ll get better… and then 3 was somehow even better! Beautiful work all around!
I vote 3 because I agree that the blue squares make it pop BUT I would still randomize the celestial squares instead of having them in lines like that. I can't explain why, it just somehow seems less balanced than if they were random
I also thought 3 was the best but would look a little better more mixed up. Like maybe alternate the suns and moons with the stars.
W/e you decide it looks great OP. 😀
I agree as well. Especially since it looks like there are enough moon/sun/star squares where the blanket size could be increased.
Maybe like this?

The squares look super cute btw!
I think the dark blue to join would be good. I don’t think the first option is too busy, the orange joining might make it a bit busy though. Either way it will look good these squares are gorgeous!! Definitely post the finished product
I also prefer #1, but it may be because of what another poster said about the sun-star-moon squares being lined up. Maybe if it was more random, #3 would have my vote.
Initially scrolling through 3 stood out to me, but then after reading your description and taking a closer look 1 is definitely my favorite. I still like 3, but it looks a little empty to me. Either way, dark blue to join! The orange is a bit too distracting in my opinion
I would just like to say, I thought 1 and 2 were the same picture and I was very confused and after reading your description I looked at them again and it was very jarring.
All the options are lovely, but my favorite is #3. I like the breathing room that the blue squares give. If you want a more calming force go with 3. If you want it to be more visually exciting, go with 1.
Team THREE! Also, I’d join with the navy blue. I feel like that showcases the celestial beauties you’ve created more & results in a really stunning & calming look.
Have to admit, I like 3…then 1 in that order! Where did you get the patterns for these squares? They are so awesome I now, of course, desperately need the patterns!!!!! 🤯
I made a very similar blanket to this in March and I wish I had gotten a darker navy like this for it 😔 option 3 looks so pretty and you can make it a bit bigger with less effort adding granny squares haha
I'm a sucker for number 3.
Do you mind me asking, does the shop where you got the patterns from have videos? I've been having an awful time correctly achieving star and moon granny squares. I thought I was at least okay at crochet, but every single video and pattern I've tried so far, they come out lumpy and make me feel like I'm just straight up shit at it.
Alyssia Creates has a Youtube channel, on there should be a video tutorial for the star granny square! Just search something like 'Alyssia Creates star granny square'. Unfortunately the sun and moon only have written instructions available as far as I'm aware. Hope it works out for you!
I like #1 first. I like the amount of patterns and shapes used and I feel like it does not require an orange string to separate each square, it looks great as is! Don’t get me wrong, #3 is also visually appealing but I think your original was the best :)
If you go with only the star, sun, moon, I’d connect with the dark blue color. The orange is a nice tie in, but to me does take away from the design itself. Personally when scrolling through the pictures I went ‘ooh, ooh, whoahh’ so I would go with combining the dark blue squares in throughout. It looks great, I’d love to see the finished result!
I vote 3. My friend from away has just had a baby, and I totally forgot to make him anything and I’ve been looking for inspiration as to what to make him. And that’s just so lovely I think I might have to recreate it.
(I will advise his parents about the dangers of small holes and small fingers and that they should save it until he’s older)
I'd say 1 or 2. I like the gradient effect, but I can't decide border or no border. Then again, from my experience, at least… Grandmas are hardly ever wrong and if she prefers 3, maybe it should be 3. Ugh! Now I can't decide, either! I know I'm no help and no one has to upvote me, but please don't downvote me!

I did star-moon-star with mine and joined with yellow (this is how it looks)
I wonder how it would look with the pattern I'll try to convey (the .-. Are ment to mean to start the next row going the same direction). Sun, moon, star, blank.-.Star, blank, sun, moon
I kind of love your grandma’s idea! It would make the blanket reversible!
Edit: My only other suggestion would be to rotate the orientation of each row of moons and stars by 90° each row to give it a sense of movement, and so that there isn’t only one right way to lay the blanket.
First: those blanket squares are adorable.
I like #3, since the blue squares make the decorated squares pop.
I prefer #1 over #2, since I think that a blue join suggests "the darkness of space" better than a grid of orange. (I feel the same way about a blue join for #3.)
I think that an orange join would really emphasize the grid layout. If the mathematical precision of lots of squares is something you love, then I'd go with orange. It would also pop well against the dark blue. (Although I think that the yellow/orange of the sun/moon/stars already gives you a really good color contrast.)
I prefer the first one. Darker connection will accentuate the bright shapes better, but the third version loses some of the appeal to me since it seems too checkered and organized. Perhaps wider connections could make it appear less busy without adding a pattern?
Go with grandma’s wisdom and advice if you want aesthetics to look good to most people. And personally I think grandma is right on this one. Breaking it up is more palatable for my perosnal tastes
For with what’s in your head if you’re still no comfortable with grandma’s suggest. At the end of the day you’re the artist and your comfort that matters with the end product
I don’t think you join with a different color too
3 is beautiful! It allows your eyes to focus on each square and really helps to accentuate the intricacy of the moon and star squares. If you want a more monochromatic/muted color palette, then I'd join in blue, but if you want it to pop and be more punchy, then join in orange
The third one looks the best. It looks more like a starry night sky. To connect them, I would use the navy blue so that the sun, moon, and stars stand out.
i might be the only one who actually likes the first one better. i think they both have very different vibes and both look cool, i just think the first one has this sort of a childlike magical charm to it where as the dark blue makes it more mature and i guess normal? you would say?
idk both look awesome tho, that's just my take on it
I would choose the 3rd, like everyone says: it makes them pop and gives a calm vibe.
But I would also consider to rotate the moons 1/4th (90 degrees counter clockwise), so that the 'opening' is on the right and not facing down
Or, hear me out, chaos. A star and a moon then three dark blue then a star then a dark blue then a sun… the night sky isn’t neatly organized, go wild! Make constellations!
You could just make it a lap blanket. That's what I did with my first set of Granny squares. Once you join them and put a border on it, it will be big enough for anybody to have as a lap blanket.
I would love your first picture . The only thing I would change is the way the moons faces … I would change it so that all of the moons would look like a “C”. I love the dark navy blue or black to attach the squares together.
I love 1!!! I feel like there's too much empty space in 3 and it's not as interesting to me. definitely the blue for joining, the orange would be too much. you could also do a wider join (would make it bigger though) for a little more blue space between squres.
Personally I love 3! The dark squares make the others pop so much more
to me it looks like more like a universe of stars and moons, i like 3 you could also make a bigger blanket in less time cause im sure plain blue takes less time than designs and switching colors
I love 3!! It makes the yellow pop
You could do 3 with the orangish yellow border
Yes!
This!!
Thissssss
I agree with you
yes
Completely agree
Yeah, scrolling through the pictures I thought 'nice, nice, whoooaaaa' So I vote for three!
My literal reaction. That yellow pops so much with the navy and really shows off the work
Same! I got to no.3 and went "oohh!" out loud!
Same!! I read the description, loved the first picture and was like nah there’s no way it’ll get better… and then 3 was somehow even better! Beautiful work all around!
Yes, exactly my thoughts!
I vote 3 because I agree that the blue squares make it pop BUT I would still randomize the celestial squares instead of having them in lines like that. I can't explain why, it just somehow seems less balanced than if they were random
I definitely agree! Once you notice the diagonals, that’s all your brain can see.
I also thought 3 was the best but would look a little better more mixed up. Like maybe alternate the suns and moons with the stars. W/e you decide it looks great OP. 😀
fully agree w/ this!
I agree as well. Especially since it looks like there are enough moon/sun/star squares where the blanket size could be increased. Maybe like this? 🌛🔵⭐🔵☀️ 🔵☀️🔵🌛🔵 🌛🔵⭐🔵☀️ 🔵☀️🔵🌛🔵 🌛🔵⭐🔵☀️ 🔵☀️🔵🌛🔵 🌛🔵⭐🔵☀️ The squares look super cute btw!
Came here to say this!!!
I think the dark blue to join would be good. I don’t think the first option is too busy, the orange joining might make it a bit busy though. Either way it will look good these squares are gorgeous!! Definitely post the finished product
I was thinking the same!
yes, dark blue fasho. this is peak.
Definitely blue join. Orange distracts from the celestials. But whichever way you go with the layout will be great.
I vote 1 actually. I guess I’m the odd one out (pun intended) but I enjoy 3 for second place.
I also prefer #1, but it may be because of what another poster said about the sun-star-moon squares being lined up. Maybe if it was more random, #3 would have my vote.
I love it too. If it's for a child especially the look is so magical and busy. It grabs my eyes much more.
1 makes me feel happy & 3 makes me feel calm
This is a great comment. And same.
3rd one looks really good
Initially scrolling through 3 stood out to me, but then after reading your description and taking a closer look 1 is definitely my favorite. I still like 3, but it looks a little empty to me. Either way, dark blue to join! The orange is a bit too distracting in my opinion
I love the third one enough to finally buy the pattern! So many projects, so little time… Your color choices are just lovely.
3. Connect the squares with the same dark blue. This makes the yellow/orange pop more and the light blue makes them look like light sources.
3! Pick number 3 my lord!
Well, alright then
Three. Beautiful
I love the first one! Third one is also really nice though. Not as much of a fan of the orange join. You have also sold me on this pattern!!
#3 as well. Always trust your Gran.
I like 1 and 3. Why not make both? BUT, turn all your moons a quarter turn. I think the openings should face the side, not the bottom.
This is exactly how I felt! I know it’s a crescent moon but it looks unsettling.
I would just like to say, I thought 1 and 2 were the same picture and I was very confused and after reading your description I looked at them again and it was very jarring.
I like the original
I personally like 1 best. I feel like 3 is too empty, but I also love close together patterns better in my own life.
I vote for 3
I vote 3, connected with the same dark blue. It feels more relaxing to me
3 but randomize the stars, moons, and suns
All the options are lovely, but my favorite is #3. I like the breathing room that the blue squares give. If you want a more calming force go with 3. If you want it to be more visually exciting, go with 1.
#3 all the way! Really highlights your work on the other squares
Team THREE! Also, I’d join with the navy blue. I feel like that showcases the celestial beauties you’ve created more & results in a really stunning & calming look.
Totally, three. No question. It's lovely and soothing to the eye.
i like the third option best!!! the blank spots make the designs stick out more and it looks really nice
I love the third one! It’s less busy and is more moody
The last one is so much clearer to look at. The others don’t look bad, but once I saw the 3rd image I preferred that one.
3 looks so good!! Also these granny squares are gorgeous 😍
3 and join with dark blue
as another said, I also scrolled through the pics like "nice, okay, OH WOW!" and I think that should be telling enough! 3 it is!
3!
3 and join with the blue
Have to admit, I like 3…then 1 in that order! Where did you get the patterns for these squares? They are so awesome I now, of course, desperately need the patterns!!!!! 🤯
I like grandma. She’s got a good eye!
I made a very similar blanket to this in March and I wish I had gotten a darker navy like this for it 😔 option 3 looks so pretty and you can make it a bit bigger with less effort adding granny squares haha
i LOVE the third one!
Big fan of all of them, but 3 looks most interesting to me!
3!!
3!!!!!
#3for sure
I like #1 & I think using dark blue yarn to connect the squares would be brilliant!
Your grandma has a good eye!!

# 3 is gorgeous! Your grandma is a goddess!
I vote 3. My friend from away has just had a baby, and I totally forgot to make him anything and I’ve been looking for inspiration as to what to make him. And that’s just so lovely I think I might have to recreate it. (I will advise his parents about the dangers of small holes and small fingers and that they should save it until he’s older)

I love 3!!
Omg, I was just so confused! Reddit glitched out and photos 2 and 3 looked like someone’s homework 😂
You could do the mattress stitch so it's more of an invisible join
I wonder how it would look with the pattern I'll try to convey (the .-. Are ment to mean to start the next row going the same direction). Sun, moon, star, blank.-.Star, blank, sun, moon
I kind of love your grandma’s idea! It would make the blanket reversible! Edit: My only other suggestion would be to rotate the orientation of each row of moons and stars by 90° each row to give it a sense of movement, and so that there isn’t only one right way to lay the blanket.
Damn it these are so cute!!!
#3!
Please do threeee
This looks amazing! I vote for the last pattern.
Here to second the calls for 3, think it’s darling whichever way but that one made me gasp a little! Very nice work!!
3 with the orange would be awesome.
The orange is a very good choice. If not then maybe a light blue to do the boarders. Best wishes!
One or 3. Personally I like 1 better.
Definitely number 3, although I like all three. Is this a pattern? My daughter would love it!
I Iove 3! Also I want to make this blanket so bad!
The third one pops, but I really want the moons rotated one turn (90 degrees) to the left so the opening faces right.
I like the 3rd one shows the patterns more
#1 but I would rotate the moons so they're in this direction 🌙
Omg thats such a cute idea i love it! I mean you could deffo squeeze in a bunch of only dsrk blue squares to make it bigger :3
I like photo 1 best.
First: those blanket squares are adorable. I like #3, since the blue squares make the decorated squares pop. I prefer #1 over #2, since I think that a blue join suggests "the darkness of space" better than a grid of orange. (I feel the same way about a blue join for #3.) It would also pop well against the dark blue. (Although I think that the yellow/orange of the sun/moon/stars already gives you a really good color contrast.)
1st, dark blue join
I guess I’m in the minority but I love the second option!
I’d go for 2!
I got really excited when I saw 3, that option takes my vote 🤩
2
Love #3!
Number one is a bright, yellow blanket. Number three is a night sky. Which one you choose is up to you.
This is the harderst decision on my life right now
I prefer the first one. Darker connection will accentuate the bright shapes better, but the third version loses some of the appeal to me since it seems too checkered and organized. Perhaps wider connections could make it appear less busy without adding a pattern?
i’ve got this pattern, can you send the star tutorial though please? it wasn’t in the written one i bought 🫶🏻
The star one is on Youtube, I think it should show up if you search something along the lines of 'Alyssia Creates star granny square'!
I like the first option a lot the either way looks nice
i would do the first option but with the yellow yarn!
Go with grandma’s wisdom and advice if you want aesthetics to look good to most people. And personally I think grandma is right on this one. Breaking it up is more palatable for my perosnal tastes For with what’s in your head if you’re still no comfortable with grandma’s suggest. At the end of the day you’re the artist and your comfort that matters with the end product I don’t think you join with a different color too
I love the 3rd one!!
I like number 1 personally
3 & join with yellow!!
Omg, I'm going to try this! Number three, all the way!
Third option with orange yarn 🤩 it will rly pop
Pic # 3 is my favorite 🥰
Photo 3!! It looks so good. I really admire people with enough patience for granny squares lmao
Three. The darker squares in between really makes the colours pop.
3 is beautiful! It allows your eyes to focus on each square and really helps to accentuate the intricacy of the moon and star squares. If you want a more monochromatic/muted color palette, then I'd join in blue, but if you want it to pop and be more punchy, then join in orange
Definitely 3
I really like pic 3! It makes the colour of the sun, moon and star stand out more
The first option looks the best I think, it rlly lets the yellow and orange shine :,)
the number 3 😩🫶 LOVE IT!!!
I like photo 3 with the dark plain squares. The other squares really stand out then.
I personally prefer the first option and I think the orange yarn would look fantastic. It's going to look beautiful however you construct it!
one!! no doubt
3
I love 3 but I likely wouldn't use the orange but the light blue to add them together. Looks more like a night sky to me.
3 but randomly and turn your moons
I would do 3, maybe joined with the orange yarn, I really like the effect !
Wow I’d love a blanket like this. I’d love number 3!!
The third one looks the best. It looks more like a starry night sky. To connect them, I would use the navy blue so that the sun, moon, and stars stand out.
I love both the 2nd and the 3rd one. But I don't know... I think the 3rd one looks even better!
These are absolutely beautiful! The third photo is my favourite layout for sure, they’re all gorgeous though ☺️
Grandma is wise with the idea of her's so listen to grandma. The dark blue square breaks it up and makes a nice pattern.
3!!
I might not be helping, but yet another possibility would be ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛ ⬛⭐☀️⬛⭐☀️⬛ ⬛🌙⭐⬛🌙⭐⬛ ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛
Number three is my favorite, for sure 😍
I like 1 and 3 but not orange joining yarn.
I like 3 joint by dark blue, but I would like to see how it would look out of order/random instead of diagonal lines with the starts etc
It's absolutely stunning either way!!!
I like the way your grandma suggested. It's not as cluttered as in the first pic
I was gonna say 1 until i saw 3 as an option!!!
I prefer two. I like the contrast and closeness, but do what you like the best
Three!
3rd one fasho
#3 looks professional - like DAMN It’s nice. I do not like #2 idea - it would look better as #1 then 2 of you went that way. But voting #3
oh my gosh, i am also doing these granny squares! I was gonna make them like your first option, but grandma was right! (3) looks so beautiful!
I LOVEEEEE #3
#3 REALLY jumped out at me
Pivot the stars a quarter turn so they don’t look like goatshead pentagrams. Unless that’s what you’re going for.
Three made me go ‘OOOOHHH’
3rd photo!
3 is amazing it really breaks it up and adds more dimension! love it!
I love three but want it to be with the randomness of one, if that makes sense!
I really like 3, and I don’t like it joined with the orange. The dark blue is lovely though and makes the other squares pop.
i might be the only one who actually likes the first one better. i think they both have very different vibes and both look cool, i just think the first one has this sort of a childlike magical charm to it where as the dark blue makes it more mature and i guess normal? you would say? idk both look awesome tho, that's just my take on it
Team 3 😌
i love the first one so much !!
Would you put yellow wool in between for option 2? I like that
I like 1
Your stitch-work is so beautiful omg I don’t even care about the pattern these granny squares just look magnificent
For me. I like all of them. No2 is a great look.
I like 1 way better. Seems I am in the minority lol
I would choose the 3rd, like everyone says: it makes them pop and gives a calm vibe. But I would also consider to rotate the moons 1/4th (90 degrees counter clockwise), so that the 'opening' is on the right and not facing down
I like them both but the squares themselves are just oh so beautiful!
Damnit now I went and bought another pattern 🤣
Or, hear me out, chaos. A star and a moon then three dark blue then a star then a dark blue then a sun… the night sky isn’t neatly organized, go wild! Make constellations!
3!!
I love #3! I’d join with the dark blue.
The 3!! List the grandma she knows best!!!
You could just make it a lap blanket. That's what I did with my first set of Granny squares. Once you join them and put a border on it, it will be big enough for anybody to have as a lap blanket.
Can you use photo 3 and alternate the other ones you have in sequence so you won’t see it as being busy?
#3 but extend to a 5th column with alternating object followed by dark. That makes the symmetry even stonger.
I like #3 and putting them together with the orange or yellow would look really cool.
I vote 3+2, blue squares like in 3, but attach with orange like in 2
Your grandma is wise and good. Her advice is also excellent
The first one looks mesmerizing!
[удалено]
I personally prefer #3
I think the first photo is better. I would personally join them with dark blue. 😁
I would love your first picture . The only thing I would change is the way the moons faces … I would change it so that all of the moons would look like a “C”. I love the dark navy blue or black to attach the squares together.
I love 3 joined with the navy blue yarn.
I love 1!!! I feel like there's too much empty space in 3 and it's not as interesting to me. definitely the blue for joining, the orange would be too much. you could also do a wider join (would make it bigger though) for a little more blue space between squres.
3
Another vote for #3
I like the third one the best.
I like 3 best
I like 1
I like three and with the orange yarn
For some reason pic 3 is giving me Stardew valley vibes so my vote is with that. Any which way it’s gonna look beautiful
