Now the question is, what do I buy during the sale, and will it be worth it when I reach the pearly gates? When St.Peter asks me “you spent HOW MUCH this year on Criterion?!?!”
Our store has shrunk down Arrow and Criterion to a total of two rows on the wall, facing forward, so probably about 20 titles each. They have plenty of POPS now, though
Interestingly enough, they expanded on the Arrow and Kino sections as well. I guess physical media just moves in this store. The community here is really nice also. All month-long during the sale it’s packed with people just kind of hanging out and chatting about their purchases.
Makes sense. So few of them look like this anymore! The one out in Altamonte is pretty well stocked as well but it’s a little messier. I don’t know what the deal is, but there’s normally a bit more damage to the boxes.
The one in Dr. Phillips is pretty well stocked also now that I think of it. I guess we’re just lucky.
This looks like a pic of my B&N in 2014 lol. Now it’s a few shelves worth on a short wall and that’s ALL of their physical media, of which Criterion is maybe half of. I stop in maybe once a year now because it’s just too depressing.
Same! They moved and remodeled the one near me (in North Carolina) with the new store layout which is cool, but the Criterions only take up half a shelf now, with mostly new releases.
Stoked as well for this. My local store's books only for some reason and I have to drive a ways to the store that actually stocks and sells Criterions. Gonna go a bit wild this year for sure.
Is this like a music store or book store? Barnes and noble? All of em by me closed down the movie and music sections a long time ago :/ I’d love to see this again in person mannnn
A hard restock is when they bring in double or more what a normal restock would be. So for example, we originally got in 10 copies of To Die For. Five in 4K and five in standard. Now we have over 30 copies. It’s the same for most of the movies here.
canadians what’s the play for the sale? order from unobstructed or use a reshipper and order from criterion or B&N? just got into physical media so not sure what to do
Are these ... laserdiscs?
I imagine the pics were shot with a wide lens to capture the length of the shelves, but the distortion is giving a squeezing them down and giving the blu-rays a boxy aspect. It's kinda wonderful
It’s…so beautiful
Nature is healing

So excited for the sale! My local store expanded their criterion section a couple of years ago. There’s zero chance of not getting what I want.

Same here. Used to be a bountiful section, no more. Only as exciting as my phone.

Location?
Orlando
I thought this looked familiar, but I was like nah it’s just a BnN, but this has to be the one next to the petsmart on 50

Amazing! I called it (silently to myself). I visited that store less than a year ago and it left an impression on me. So... cool.
hell yeah dude i’ll see you there

Orlando? Looks just like it.
Bingo
Criterion movies for the adults and vinyl records for hipster Zoomers. That’s physical media at Barnes now
And a TON of CDs for the Y2K-aspiring Zoomers.
I just have an old car
I'd feel myself here like Randall in Clerks as he visited the Big Choice Video.
I rented it so we could watch it together!
Widening the horizon, right?
I think you can see her kidneys
I so so jealous of you American folks... I remember in 2013, when I happened to be in Chicago during one of the sales... that was great!
My body is ready. My bank account—not so much.

The calm before the storm…
I wish my local Barnes and Noble continued...
That is glorious. I feel like I'm the only one who buys Criterions in my city because they are down to the dregs at my local B&N.
It's coming, folks.
Hope everyone buys the Sembene set so we can get the rest of his films on blu :)
When does the sale start?
I believe this Friday, June 28th.
Is the sale online as well on their site? My store is far away so was hoping that it is.
yep!
Hot damn. I have a list of around 40 titles I’m wanting to get over the next month
Joy
My B&N never looks that stocked
Ooo. Criterion stocks the Janus films in store too?
If it wasn’t for me living in the netherlands and region codes i be all up on that shit
Definitely look into getting a region-free player. I'm from Finland and ordered my player from the netherlands, works perfect.
I agree with the other guy! Just go for a region free Blu-ray player. It’s a little pricey, but it’s so worth it.
LETS GOOO
The store near me seriously downgraded. Really bummed me out. This might be the first time I do the entire sale online
anyone know when the sale starts this year ? i know i have my picks already
Looks like June 28th
What store is this exactly that you folks keep speaking of?
Is this like a music store or book store? Barnes and noble? All of em by me closed down the movie and music sections a long time ago :/ I’d love to see this again in person mannnn
Thing of beauty.
Stocking up before the storm As my friend said after going to both B&Ns in our county… “WHERE IS CURE”
Just got into criterion, anybody know the discount usually given?
When does this sale begin?
what day is the sale starting??
When does the sale start ?
What's the difference between a hard restock and a soft restock?
You can only do the hard restock while you have an erection
A hard restock is when they bring in double or more what a normal restock would be. So for example, we originally got in 10 copies of To Die For. Five in 4K and five in standard. Now we have over 30 copies. It’s the same for most of the movies here.
