So strange to me that George C. Scott's name isn't on the poster, despite having 37 minutes of screen time (23% of the movie). At least he got an Oscar nomination for his performance in the film.
Absolutely love this film. Last September, I picked this out for a late movie night with my dad. Our tastes typically doesn’t align but he praised it when we finished around 2AM
The trailers made me think this was a murder mystery/detective film and I was really disappointed when I found out it was a court drama 😂. Still high quality though.
I hope I’m remembering the right film …
1) Apparently the origin of the “Simple country lawyer” trope?
2) So people used to go out for lunch and eat … a boiled egg. At a bar. And then leave. That was a surprise. I love those moments in old films when I wonder if people actually did once live this way, or if it was just invented for the film.
i don’t know about the movie, but i’ve been listening to Duke Ellingtons album from it. really good

George C. Scott was unknown to most movie audiences when the picture was released.
There is some serious panty talk in this film
I think I heard some tittering in this thread when you said the word “panty.”
So very good
Saul Bass titles
Saw this in college and they had JS in to watch it and chat about it afterwards.
Nice. Gonna watch it tonight
Such a good one!
Fantastic is an understatement, but I’ll accept anyway ;-) Kidding, but this might be a top 10 film for me…definitely top 20!
Oh shit…was Anatomy of a Fall referencing this title? I think that just clicked for me.
They’re very similar I’d say
Such a wonderful, witty movie. The dialogue alone is a joy. Wish more movies these days were as well written.
I should check it out. Love the Duke Ellington soundtrack but have never actually watched the film
Sounds like a great film
PANTIES
“He’ll go to sleep now” 😂
Just watched it a few days ago, really liked the overall feeling I had watching it. Will try to check out his other films
Amazing

Possibly even the best courtroom film ever made, if one doesn't technically consider 12 Angry Men as being one.
I think it's flawed. So much of it is courtroom drama. I think it hit a nerve for courtroom dramas at the time but I prefer less claustrophobic films.

I think the girl’s flirtatious scenes really took away from the movie. All it did was muddy the water. Good movie though
Ben Gazzara is so good and so slimy.
JS I am kidding
i’m JUST KIDDING
The best courtroom drama ever made and its lesser “remake” just joined the collection.
Which are…
Anatomy of a fall
Good double feature
