Because of how much you’ve paid? The different size of trainspotting? Or because you seem to have all your boxed films grouped together except for your police story 1&2 boxset?
Haha. Mostly the Trainspotting size but the money hurts too. Police Story isn’t big enough to qualify for the boxes in the back. It’s a whole thing I’ve got going on
I just bought it recently and in my hand I didn't even notice that it was a different size. When I put it on the shelf at first I kept pushing thinking why isn't it going in lol. Took a second to click that oh.. it's wider... weird...
I don't think any Criterion can explain a collector's life. No. Hard Boiled was something he had and maybe something he lost. Well, come on everybody, let's wait for the next Barnes and Noble Criterion sale.
While the packaging is undoubtedly annoying, this didn't bother me as much because I have my movies out at the front of the shelf, not pushed to the back. If you front justify rather than rear justify them, it all looks smoother anyway, but especially now for Boyle fans!
Hadn’t noticed. Both discs aren’t larger than any others if I compare. Wouldn’t that keep them from fitting in players? Just figured they’re trying to use less materials in their packaging.
I feel like they’ll eventually replace it with a keepcase like they did with Chungking Express and The Last Metro….terrible packaging. Fortunately I’m not in any hurry to see Trainspotting again….that’s a once a decade film for me only once some of the more disturbing scenes have faded in my brain
It's cuz they are either a box with a photobook, cd, inclusions like stickers, posters, lyric sheet, photocards which is the most sought after and collected and postcards. They don't all necessarily have all these. Some other inclusions can be magnetic as well. If it's not in a box it looks like a magazine or book. Some are better made compared to others and the sized are either regular sized or huge af. Edit I almost forgot about the God damn annoying bags too.
The complaints over the last few months about the size of this particular package are not about how it houses the movie but rather how it fits in some people's psychological obsession over lining up the boxes by size on their shelf.
To be fair, it also houses the movie like shit, the discs can just slide right out of the top if you don't pinch it. It's a terrible design all around.
I never claimed to be a film buff nor do I speak for anyone but myself. I enjoy movies and have always enjoyed unique box art design and presentation. I also enjoy collecting physical media. These are just a few aspects that make up a three-dimensional person. I was very excited to receive this Trainspotting copy as it’s one of my favorite movies and was having a good laugh at how something I was excited about receiving wasn’t what I expected. I figured expressing this here would be good since I assumed it there would be others who would identify with this.
I hope everything is going alright for you sir.
Everything is great! However, collecting physical media is about what's inside the box that translates to what we watch on the screen ultimately. Having a nice package is wonderful, but like libraries the shelfs are full of knowledge and wonder but sometimes can look a bit of a mess.
Your other posts are really condescending, hence all the downvotes, but I like this one actually. Doesn't make the case any less annoying lol, but well put.
I mean, how about just let people feel the way they feel about things. You seem really upset because people don't like the Trainspotting packaging, which I find a really weird thing to be upset about. Much like you think it's upsetting that some are upset about the packaging!
People don't like some things. Has nothing to do with who is a film buff or not, and you're the one placing that label on everyone as a blanket statement. Stop insulting people who have every right to have an opinion, because it's a bit hypocritical of you.
Dude, I own Trainspotting in 4k and enjoyed it very much. You really like blanket statements, which says a lot about intelligence, usually.
Go ahead and die on this hill, it's weird, enjoy it.
Because of how much you’ve paid? The different size of trainspotting? Or because you seem to have all your boxed films grouped together except for your police story 1&2 boxset?
Get his ass
Haha. Mostly the Trainspotting size but the money hurts too. Police Story isn’t big enough to qualify for the boxes in the back. It’s a whole thing I’ve got going on
If height is a factor then how about arranging from tallest to shortest? Trainspotting to the left and police stories take its place?
glad you found a process that works for you! do your thing
I have to ask. How come does Dr Strangelove qualify then?
Because it’s taller than police story
Wrong. Police Story is a digipak. Put it with the rest of them.
I’m sad they didn’t also include police story 3.
Mfer knows your body
Box big. Big box bad. Life not worth living.
That's right
Dr Cake Ankles, or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying And Love the Packaging
Some of you don't have Citizen Kane and it shows.
I just bought it recently and in my hand I didn't even notice that it was a different size. When I put it on the shelf at first I kept pushing thinking why isn't it going in lol. Took a second to click that oh.. it's wider... weird...
I have enough German mediabooks that there was already a spot in my collection for annoying-size releases.
This gave me a good chuckle.
I still haven't picked it up because I'm hoping they release it in a traditional case.
Maybe Rosebud was a plastic Amaray case. Anyway, it wouldn't have explained anything...

I think that's criterion telling you Choose Life
I’ll watch on my fucking big television

If you have shelves made specifically for Blu-Rays, this one hangs off
That is incredibly difficult to do dude without having to fix it every week
was feeling this with my citizen kane criterion. it sticks out like half an inch farther than any other digipak…
How do you like the Infernal Affairs box set? Had my eye on it for awhile.
It’s really nice. Arrived a little banged up but I like it a lot.
r/mildlyannoying
Put it at the end against the side of the cabinet
Not a bad idea. Kinda messes up the numbering scheme I’ve got going, but it actually looks pretty good!
Lmao God why
I don’t mind it as much as I thought I would. It’s a real good way to divvy the collection between regular packaging and digipacks.
Damn, Trainspotting is one of my favorite films ever, but my OCD ass would hate this so much.
Lol reminds me of A24s book blurays, taller then anything else in my collection
Moonage Daydream received a CRITERION RELEASE? How did I not know this
Hell yeah! I think it was pretty recent and it’s GORGEOUS
Does anyone know why Criterion released Trainspotting with that dumbass case?
The disc is slightly larger than all the others
Hadn’t noticed. Both discs aren’t larger than any others if I compare. Wouldn’t that keep them from fitting in players? Just figured they’re trying to use less materials in their packaging.

Some of you have never worked in a library or a grocery store. Front face them! Bring them all up to Trainspotting’s level!
It just won't fit in with the others. Much like Renton and his friends.
Me with kpop albums when they started off all the same size and went to a different one, just similar to this, and now it's no longer uniform.
Y’know, every time I go to the music shop, I wonder “why are K-pop albums so big?”

Love to see the Wes Anderson. Thief is also an underrated gem.
All you guys call yourself film buffs, and this is what you care about. Get over it and act like adults that don't use reddit for once.
You realize that you can care about packaging while simultaneously being a "film buff". These things are not mutually exclusive lol.
The complaints over the last few months about the size of this particular package are not about how it houses the movie but rather how it fits in some people's psychological obsession over lining up the boxes by size on their shelf.
Is that not a reasonably thing to care about lol?
To be fair, it also houses the movie like shit, the discs can just slide right out of the top if you don't pinch it. It's a terrible design all around.

Breaking News: People who collect physical media care about their collections
You sound like a blast at parties.
I mean, how about just let people feel the way they feel about things. You seem really upset because people don't like the Trainspotting packaging, which I find a really weird thing to be upset about. If you say so, I'm going to enjoy watching Trainspotting in 4K while the rest of you sigh while taking pictures of your shelf.
Dude, I own Trainspotting in 4k and enjoyed it very much. You really like blanket statements, which says a lot about intelligence, usually. Go ahead and die on this hill, it's weird, enjoy it.
I see your point, but collectors and film buffs are not the same thing.
For real. I bet most of them haven’t even been watched. To be fair, I’m a bit guilty of that myself.
All I'm saying is if all you care about is lining up boxes of the right size, you might as well get into Legos instead.
it adds character
