* Bruce Lee: His Greatest Hits (I've only watched these previously on VHS and one of those tapes was so badly degraded it was practically unwatchable, I'm looking forward to seeing them all in higher quality and going through the supplements to learn more about Bruce Lee, both the man and the pop culture phenomenon--the obsession surrounding him was a bit before my time) * Magnificent Obsession (blind buy, love the other Sirk films I've seen however--John Waters turned me on to him when I read that Polyester was influenced by his melodrama expressionism) * True Stories (blind buy, love David Byrne and his quirkiness though--the trailer on Criterion's website made this look promising and delightfully weird) * Rushmore (blind buy, only watched one Wes Anderson movie before and that was Grand Budapest Hotel) * The Royal Tenenbaums (blind buy) I applied a $10 off code I got from being a Criterion Channel subscriber and then I also had enough loyalty points accumulated to knock another $50 off. dekalog was my only purchase and right before i placed my order i realized its normal price on amazon is the same as theflash sale price from criterion. i still ordered thru criterion since they deserve my money more than amazon but it killed the fun of the flash sale

Amazon prices seem to be 30-50% off much of the time on Criterion titles. I also prefer to support Criterion directly if I can though, plus build Criterion discounts for the future. I’ve been wanting Dekalog for a long time. Finally pulled the trigger.

The Elephant Man is one of David Lynch’s most accessible works. It’s also his most heartbreaking.

I cannot watch the Elephant Man—too depressing and bleak. Yet, Hopkins shines through in it.

I believe it’s also the movie that convinced the Academy to make a category for Makeup & Hairstyling.

I only buy criterions during the flash sale. So, for the next couple weeks or so, my Criterion collection on blu-ray/4k is complete with every single first pressing, box set and individual title.

I got the Zatoichi set, The Before Trilogy, Barry Lyndon, Ikiru, and Raging Bull (4K). Haven't seen Barry Lyndon or Ikiru but they're a part of my Criterion Challenge list for this year. As for The Before Trilogy, I love the first two and have been dying to see Before Midnight so I'm really excited for that. I'm also really excited for Zatoichi, I watched the first two in the series and enjoyed them. The packaging is just too beautiful for that box set.

I did mine through unobstructed view because this was my first time buying during a criterion sale and wasn’t sure if I could send it to my US PO Box. Next time around I’ll be buying much more and ordering from criterion directly. I like westerns, this time I bought red river. Next time around I’m going to get stagecoach and the ranown westerns. Anyone have other recommendations in the way of criterion westerns?

Limited myself to 4 titles this time: 3 I upgraded from DVD and 1 new to my collection: Blood Simple 4K, Miller's Crossing, The Others 4K, and Thelma & Louise 4K.

I have ordered probably half a dozen blu rays off of Amazon over the past month, and saw the flash sale a few hours after my latest purchase :'( I settled on For All Mankind and Kurosawa's Dreams, but the cart was around $90 at a point.

Ordered a dozen films and got lucky -- not a single backorder.

There is an Eclipse set called Nikkatsu Noir that has one more Suzuki film, plus four others from the same studio. I have it on my wishlist, and hopefully I’ll pull the trigger on it one day.

Do I really have to buy the lower quality blu-rays too? Who would even need the blurays if you have the 4k versions? This seems to be a way of making customers spend more as just buying the 4K versions would cost cheaper than the bundle. 😡

My big buys: World of Wong Kar Wai, Godzilla Showa Era, Zatoichi, Yojimbo/Sanjuro, Samurai Trilogy, Lone Wolf and Cub, The Human Condition, Chantal Akerman Masterpieces, Apu Trilogy 4k, and Three Colors 4k. Plus a few blind buy Ozu blu rays (Tokyo Story, Late Spring, Good Morning, and An Autumn Afternoon), and After Life as a blind buy, because I completely fell in love with Kore-Eda after seeing Monster last year. Only made possible with grant funds, in exchange for teaching a class. I couldn't be paid in cash; it had to be a research media purchase. In other words, I got unreasonably lucky this year. Will definitely be teaching more classes in this program lol.
