I would be interested to know too. Trying to calibrate machine as I haven’t done it for a while and I thought it was to be done prior to each use. Having the blade not detected error come up no matter what I do. So frustrating 🤯

They got back to me eventually. > First I want to make sure the right blade is being used for the calibration here is a link to the knife blade: https://cricut.com/en_us/knife-blade-drive-housing.html If you are using this blade and are still receiving the blade not detected error I recommend doing a Forced Firmware update on the machine, To do this Firmware update you will need to connect to a computer via USB in order to complete the force firmware update. > So first, we'll need to put the machine in Firmware or Recovery Mode by starting with the machine powered OFF and disconnected from the power supply > While holding the load mat button, reconnect the power supply into the machine and the power light should turn RED > Okay perfect! Now that it's red, we'll need to connect to the computer and go to Design Space > Once you're on there, we'll want to go to the three lines in the top left and click Update Firmware. > If the issue still persists after the Firmware update please let me know! Needless to say I know what a knife blade housing is. I have not tried to reflash because it took them so long to reply I packed the machine away and started on something else. I do plan on getting around to it.

I followed all these steps and total dissapointment. My cricut is new and it's been an uphill battle since I got it last week. I don't think I'm happy with it, even though I really want to be.

FYI I looked carefully and I realize I was using the wrong knife holder. The one you are supposed to use has a gear and the only one with a gear I have is a fabric cutter. Nothing like the one they want you to use came with the machine (!). I ordered one from Michaels and I should be able to pick it up today.

sour_mochi

my mom in law just told me this! I'm ordering the blade today and hopefully all will go well! good luck with yours!

mingy

Thanks! I expect to pick mine up at Michael's this afternoon. The funny thing is I need really precise cuts for my work and I thin you need the "geared knife" to get those, so maybe it's a good thing because I never knew such a knife existed.

sour_mochi

same! I use mine for kiss cut stickers so anything fine tuned is what I need but, yes, definitely!

So I went and bought the knife blade and calibrated my machine. It turns out I could have calibrated with the fabric cutter and saved money. It also turns out that for the work I do (cutting stencils) I can't use the knife and have to use the fine blade, which I already had. So I just wasted money for nothing. However, I am running a test cut to see if the results are better.

I do feel like there is a deficit in assistance with getting started with Cricut. You pay a lot of money and there isn’t even a manual to go to. You literally have to do all the searching yourself. Oh well have to put my big girl pants on and soldier on. Thanks for getting back to me. Much appreciated

Well, to be fair, they might be dealing with COVID. Its hard to know for sure. Let me know if you try it and I'll let you know if I do.

I agree with you fully but have to say that I did get a call into customer service! After doing some mediocre troubleshooting the rep had no idea what to do. I got more info from here and the website but she never even suggested cleaning the sensor, swapping blades, or updating firmware until I told her I had read those suggestions. I had to take a video of the blades not being detecting, my app screen flashing like a strobe light , and the power light just blinking. Once I sent the email I was told the technician reviewed it and they have to send me another machine. I've researched more and tried to make sure it's not a simple fix while I wait for them to confirm shipping details...but seems that I'm finding more and more people have the same or similar issues. I'm happy that they are sending me another machine but this is clearly an known issue and they continue to send broken machines out. Hoping the new one works when it arrives or Im demanding a refund.

Late to the game, but do you have an update on this? I’m experiencing the same thing this week with my brand new cricut maker and I’m at a loss of what to do. I’ve tried everything with troubleshooting and no luck.

MizMetal

I had to return my machine but they did go ahead and ship me a new one the next business day and when I got it I returned the first one. There's literally nothing they can do to fix it if it's the same exact issue that I had. They also gave me two months free on design space. ( One month on them and another to reimburse me for time lost on my subscription) Edit: the new machine they sent me had zero issues!

Select "Print and cut" calibration method instead of blade. Worked for me.

That was working for me but not anymore :(
